How to Spend 24 Hours Eating and Drinking in Waco in 2024 - Eater Dallas

"Pinewood Coffee Bar offers the best beans in town with rich flavors of cinnamon and pecans, ideal for dark roast enthusiasts. The interior, reminiscent of a 19th-century public school, features cozy booths, countertop seating, and two patios. In the afternoons and evenings, it transforms into a Public House, serving beer, wine, and coffee." - Courtney E. Smith

Roastery-by-day, neighborhood pub by night. Locals and critics appreciate its understated design, monthly jazz and trivia, and devotion to well-sourced beans and rotating Texas taps—an easygoing hang for coffee or a nightcap.

Pinewood is a whole vibe ☕🌿 If you’re in Waco and love a good coffee spot, Pinewood Coffee Bar is the place. The drinks are legit—smooth, rich, and never too sweet. You can tell they take pride in their beans and brews. The space has this cozy, low-key charm with wood accents, comfy seating, and a super chill crowd. I saw folks studying, catching up, and just soaking in the good vibes. The outdoor courtyard? 10/10—peaceful, shaded, and perfect for slow mornings or afternoon breaks. Service was friendly, everything felt easy and intentional. It’s one of those places you wanna linger a bit longer. Definitely worth a stop if you’re rollin’ through Waco.

Just driving through and decided to stop in. Just a fun place to grab a coffee and hit the books if you are student. Great selection of teas that can also be made iced.

Beautiful coffee shop! Definitely a must visit! We enjoyed delicious cortados and lattes! The atmosphere is so inviting and love the records on display and playing! Lovely plants and our barista Emma was pleasant to talk to. 🥰 ☕️

Google
Beautiful location with lots of seating. Very popular especially on rainy days. The staff is incredibly friendly and the coffee is excellent! In the morning before noon there’s extra seating in the building next-door before the bar opens. In the afternoon you can enjoy a brew over in the second building if you prefer.

Sweet spot. Might have bungled wife’s tea order and my espresso had grounds in it. No food. Cannot accommodate parties larger than 4 in main indoor space. Outdoor space looked very pleasant, although it was rainy when we went. Ended up in the pub space also owned by Pinewood across the courtyard.

Google
Calm & inviting atmosphere, so lovely!🤍 Let's talk coffee! Quad shot Latte with their homemade earl Grey syrup is AMAZING! 👏👏👏👏👏 Quad shot latte with homemade vanilla syrup, wonderful! Beans are strong in the best way possible, not bitter like Starbucks!!!👏👏👏👏 Bonus points for lightly sweetening because coffee should always be the dominant flavor!🤑🤑🤑

Google
My favorite coffee shop in Waco. High quality coffee, happy staff, cool swag and the vibes are chill. My first stop when I come in from the NE I always need strong beans to help with me TX journey. Thanks Guys

Google
A favorite coffee stop in Waco. This warm, welcoming, wood-paneled counter has many tables, booths, and stools to comfortably enjoy one of their many beverages. Their menu ranges from coffee to tea to non-caffeinated beverages. Across from the counter is a small display to purchase bags of beans, shirts, and mugs. They share a shaded courtyard and large parking lot with their sister establishment, a bar with alcohol and snacks.

Yelp
This is my favorite coffee shop in Waco and honestly just one of my faves in general! Great coffee, fun comfy vibes. The coffee is always consistent!!

Yelp
The atmosphere is cute and they make a good coffee. Very basic as far as flavors etc but their seasonal gingerbread latte was amazing with house made syrup. They don't have much for a snack so not a place to get a coffee and treat. They have like 1-2 pre-packaged cookies. The cups aren't very big and I did need to add a shot to mine to get the strong taste I enjoy. They're definitely quality as far as the shots they pull. Staff was friendly.

Yelp
The vibe is great. Is location is surprising. The barista knew is coffee!! He knew the blend and the roast!! All hail. This is a true coffee lover's spot for quality specialty coffee. My companion had a drip Kenyan and it was good- bright and on point. The espresso was medium roast (I prefer a dark) but good quality. This is a high value high quality shop and coffee drinkers have no choice- you must come here. Plus it is adorable. We sat outside and were very content.

Yelp
Super warm and inviting atmosphere, workers were very friendly. A super cute place to gather with friends to drink some coffee, I wouldn't recommend studying there though just because it's kind of loud.

Yelp
We met family here while visiting from out of town. My husband and I both chose the house latte but I had mine hot and he had his iced. I liked mine but my husband didn't like his. The coffee was great but there wasn't a lot of the house syrup flavor at all. The staff was very friendly and it's a beautiful location to just hang out. The outdoor patio is beautiful and had a really nice breeze despite the hot weather. I'd be willing to give this place another shot next time we're in town.

Yelp
While driving up for a work trip a coworker suggested I come thru to Pinewood Coffee Bar for a coffee for the road when he found out I was planning to stop in Waco. I was super happy with his suggestion as this coffee shop is super quaint with their chill vibes and the music playing throughout the place. Upon walking in I was not surprised to see almost every seat was taken by studying students and remote workers. This is definitely a nice spot to post up and get some work done. The baristas were super welcoming and gave me enough time to figure out what I wanted to order. I opted for a cold brew and requested to add CBD to my drink. I found out they do have CBD sparkling waters and COULD mix it with my cold brew but I opted to just take a sparkling water with me instead and have it later. I was glad I did too as I was able to take off the edge and stressors of driving through to my destination. The atrium area outside is just super charming. It was a little cold to be sitting outside on the day I visited but there were people out there enjoying the fresh air and doing their thing. Next time I am in the area I will definitely come through again as this spot was just the bees knees.

Yelp
This place is awesome. I live out of town and stopped in mid day. Had a cortado that I would hop a flight just to have again. Try some of thier roasted beans too. They are very good at home - I bought the Sumatra and the 8 ball. You get a free drip roast with those too. Pretty sweet deal. Cool vibe and staff too.

Yelp
Pinewood is a Waco staple - and I make it a point to visit every time I'm back in town. This was my go-to coffee shop when I was at Baylor - and it's comforting to know that I can walk in and grab a glass of cold brew that's just as delicious as it was when I was in school. Locally-roasted coffee beans make a difference, and you can truly taste that difference here. This is a great place to study or work remotely: the Wi-Fi is fast, and the caffeine is readily available. The atmosphere is warm and familiar - even if it's your first time stopping in. I've always had excellent service, and have often asked the baristas for their recommendations. If you're planning to sit outdoors, I would definitely recommend a set of headphones or earbuds, as it can get a little loud around lunchtime. I have yet to experience their Public House - but it's definitely something I hope to get around to soon.

Yelp
I find myself in Texas more often than I ever thought I would. On a west to east cross country roadtrip, we cut through Waco and stopped into Pinewood for refuel. I need coffee to start my day and essentially, just be a pleasant human being. Yea I'm addicted to a drug called caffeine and yea maybe its not great for my brain and definitely gives me heartburn now BUT I DON'T CARE. Give me the coffee. And if you can, give me lattes from Pinewood bc they were delicious. A stop here was so lovely to break up the long hours of driving. I loved the vibe and could easily spend a day here if I was local. You Waco residents are so lucky.

Yelp
A gem of a coffee shop. The baristas were very friendly and helpful when I asked for bean recs for espresso. I got a bag, and one of them kindly grinded some of it for me after I explained I was still waiting on my home grinder to arrive. I enjoyed some coffee while reading a book in one of the nooks, and the amount of natural light made it very cozy. There is plenty of space both inside and outside, and there is a good selection of beans for whatever you may need.

Yelp
Could've been a great experience but I guess the staff has their favorite customers and they can skip over people standing in line. We just were there, waiting for two customers in front of us to be taken care of. Some big white dude comes by a little later and stands besides us and we approach the cashier at the same time and she takes care of him. Sad. What's the point of a freaking line? Coffee is ok. They don't have almond milk but carry all other hipster emo milks.
google avatar

Taylor G.

Yelp
Why wasn't this here when I was at Baylor?! Such a great study/work spot with lots of good places to sit/plug in. And the coffee was fantastic! I had an oat milk cortado and my husband had an americano. Both were delicious and the barista that took our order was kind. Highly recommend stopping by if you're visiting but expect a decent crowd of students.

Yelp
Excellent coffee house in neighborhood south of downtown. The coffee is carefully crafted and superb. Loved the retro LP based music! Lots of great indoor and outdoor seating; easy street and lot parking.
google avatar

Mark M.

Yelp
A students dream. I'm sure everyone there was a Baylor student minus ourselves and some older folk just sitting enjoying coffee. Intimate atmosphere but so much seating available. Even though it was raining we decided to sit outside since it's covered enough, our table wasn't wet at all. Coffee was good, I would have loved to have this shop nearby when I was in school.
google avatar

Yelp
Really enjoyed working out of Pinewood Coffee Bar during my Waco trip. The cortado I ordered was great, and there was ample indoor/outdoor seating. The staff is friendly and doesn't mind if you post up for a while. There wasn't any food, but there was a food truck that I ordered from for lunch before heading home. The music selection here was great, they take their vinyl collection seriously. Would have liked it to be a little quieter, but I just popped over to the tables outside for meetings. All in all, this was the hippest stop I made in the area (by far). I'd consider it a must visit in Waco!

Yelp
Great place with good coffee & tea and a really cool vibe! Friendly service! Glad we stopped by!

Yelp
We've been to waco for years but this was our first time stopping here. It was pretty good coffee with a vibe that reminded me of our old fave in denver. The latte was pretty good & hubs loved the drip. Definitely feels like the staff have their regulars/faves but are generally nice to newcomers.

Yelp
I found this place on a road trip in 2022, and since, I never drive through Waco without stopping here. The coffee is great, the place has a fun, vintage, simple vibe. There's a great patio to sit on and inside the staff plays vinyl records. Pothos vines wind their way around the ceiling. The service is consistently good.

Yelp
Great coffee great vibe and great service!! Def a place to visit in Waco for your caffeine needs
google avatar

Ken T.

Yelp
Very welcoming environment. The Baristas are very helpful when I ask for their advice on how to make good espresso at home. Love the music (vinyls). I like buying the "8 Ball" beans, they make very good tasting espresso. Highly recommend this place!
google avatar

Yelp
Love everything about this place. Super friendly. Coffee is amazing. Wish you served food but I get it!!! Enjoy it every time we stop by.
google avatar

Yelp
Coffe is bitter. Nice cafe but to serve bitter cold brew coffee very disappointing. At $4 I suppose I got what I paid for.

Yelp
Great coffee! Good vibes and I am super picky about my coffee. Nice smiles and music to

Yelp
Pinewood remains one of the most notable coffee shops in the Waco community. Throughout my time as a student at Baylor, I would usually come to Pinewood if I had some light work to get done for class or catch up with friends on the weekends. Usually during the midday, it is mostly busy which can distract your focus work. You will mostly find Baylor students, depending on the time of the year of course, or people getting light remote work done. The best time to go is early in the morning when there isn't a hint of chatter in the background. It's the best time to study for that exam or read a good book. Overall, a great spot in general. I'm very simplistic when it comes to coffee so I recommend the lattes or bottomless drip.
google avatar

Marli M.

Yelp
Wish I would have had time to hangout! This place was popping. Came in mid morning on a weekday and it was crowded, and there is so so much seating, inside, outside, and in another building (which I didn't go in). The menu was small and I'm a craft girl so that was just fine. I got a latte with their maple spice syrup. It was very interesting and super smooth. My husband got a cappuccino and said it was good (he's picky). Prices were pretty much as expected. The vibes in this place were great and if I was a citizen of Waco, I think I'd spend my time here!

Jon M.

Yelp
Great Vibe! Lots of fun! Students come to study or chat. Baristas are artists with their creations. LP's on the record player are Alan added bonus!
google avatar

Lorena M.

Yelp
Super cute and cozy coffee house. Had a hot chai that hit the spot on a cool fall morning. Picture is a matcha in a cute mug. Prices were decent, like any other coffee place. Paid $8 for 2 drinks.
google avatar

Vicky G.

Yelp
This coffee spot was highly recommended in a Waco blog I read so we wanted to check it out. We weren't disappointed. I had a vanilla iced coffee and my husband had a chai. Both were tasty and were a welcomed cold beverage on our hot walk to Cottonland Castle. The coffee restaurant sits beside a public house with an adjoining courtyard between the two spots. Definitely give it a try when visiting Waco.
google avatar

Elizabeth J.

Yelp
This is by far the best cup of coffee I have had in our town. The warm greeting and enthusiasm of the owner was infectious and elevated my hard morning. I loved their vibe and central courtyard and I will be back.
google avatar

Liz M.

Yelp
Beautiful hip spot here in Waco. Delicious coffee and nice vibe!! Quick and friendly service !
google avatar

Yelp
Probably the best coffee in Waco. It's a simple coffee shop. Cozy interior with lots of wood, perfect spot for enjoying a drink or studying. Nice patio outside. I found the baristas particularly friendly. Most importantly, the coffee is excellent. The best I have found in Waco.
google avatar

Britt C.

Yelp
Best coffee shop in town. Hands down. Love the vibes and all the wood. Coffee is top notch, can't be beat.

Yelp
Don't come here to study unless you plan on dropping some serious cash on coffee or any of their sub-par desserts. This is not a good study location; they only want your business. Which is ironic because the business Pinewood is in, is the business of treating customers like a number, and not using their head to create more business. I was sitting with a group of people and we had one outside drink with us. We had just sat down outside on one of the tables for maybe five minutes. Connecting our phones and getting our computers juiced up for a nice study session. Up walks a pinewood socialist, telling us to buy something or get out. We had been there five minutes, not even enough time to think about ordering a drink yet. Instead of using her salemenship skills to get us all to buy coffee and dessert, she gave us an ultimatum (classic liberal move, wanting the result without putting in the effort). Not only have you lost the opportunity to make money from three organic customers, but you've tainted the reputation of Pinewood forever. It's quite clear that Pinewood is not a study-focussed coffee shop. It's a coffee shop that doesn't know how to sell a cup of coffee to a potential customer. If you are looking for a place to study, do NOT go to Pinewood. Instead, save yourself the headache and head on over the Dichotomy, which has FREE wifi, ALLOWS outside drinks, and serves ALCOHOL. Dichotomy understands what students want; freedom and peace. Let me make the decision to buy some of your coffee or not, because me doing absolutely nothing but studying will not hurt your business. But Pinewood doesn't know that. They just know how to piss off customers and slander their own name. See ya at Dichotomy.

Yelp
new fav waco coffee shop! the atmosphere is amazing, staff was kind, and the coffee was delicious!

Yelp
Took a pit stop on my way to Austin from Dallas to Pinewood! Such a cute place! The tree in the courtyard and the vibes there are awesome. I got a matcha with oat milk and it was perfect. Not overly sweet! I will definitely make another pit stop here.
google avatar

Anh L.

Yelp
Best coffee I've ever had. I got the espresso with milk & maple spice syrup. My "bff" got cafe latte. Both are very good. The texture of my coffee is smooth. The patio is romantic. Overall I like the vibe.
google avatar

Yelp
The Huey Louis is a Cold brew coffee with lemonade. I couldn't imagine what it would taste like before I tried it....it's really good! Very refreshing. Definitely give it a shot!

Addie E.

Yelp
We are road-tripping and stopped through Waco and this has been the only place so far that has made our coffee correct and tasty! The atmosphere and drinks are definitely worth it. Seems like a good study spot for locals. They have the record player playing jams. The service was quick and kind. And I always appreciate places with vegan options for snacks.
google avatar

Jessica G.

Yelp
Listen, I don't know someone that doesn't love this place. I'm the only person that thinks the coffee taste sour. The vibe is great though! Inside and outside seating. Always on the brink of capacity, but you can inevitably find at least one open table. The service is quick, so don't let a line fool you. Definitely worth a visit.
google avatar

Monica M.

Yelp
Awesome space with variety of seating options, from spaced out booths on the inside to small bistro tables and larger picnic tables on the outside. Very chill vibes- you will find a mix of socializing and studying. Menu is easy to digest, I do wish there was more info on the syrups or drink customization options- my cortado was smooth not too strong (how I prefer) and my boyfriend enjoyed his coldbrew (with a touch of vanilla syrup and a splash of regular milk). We also purchased one of the Milk Bottle Cookies and a bagel sandwich from the food truck as well. The cookie was average, maybe it would be better fresh from the shop as mine felt a little stale. Bagel sandwich from William Hoyt Bagel & Brew was a 10/10. Also- the merch selection was awesome if you are into that type of stuff. They had a little bit for everyone.
google avatar

Jessie C.

Yelp
We've been going around Waco with coffee snobs who are from Seattle and travel Italy. They said the coffee here compares to Italy and is by far the best quality coffee in all of Waco. I love the atmosphere and the waffle truck out front can't be missed. Lots of students here working on their computers great atmosphere we're getting stuff done.
google avatar

Heather B.

Yelp
It's a nice little coffee shop. It took a little time to place our order. The music was nice. The interior ordering area and seating are could have used more seating. It was a little dark inside. The outside seating was lacking. There were a few people there. I loved the designs on the coffee foam. The attention to that was appreciated. Put a smile on my face. The staff was nice. The coffee was good but, nothing to brag about. It is still enjoyable.
google avatar

Fredrick K.

Yelp
First latte I ever enjoyed was at Pinewood! And that's saying a lot from a person who didn't previously enjoy coffee! The rich espresso and perfectly steamed sweet milk combined together to make an incredible classic latte! I promise that my experience isn't a one off thing - Each cup of coffee is made to order with perfection, pride, and care. Pinewood's vibe is earthy, yet classy, with wooden seating furniture and ambient music coming from a vintage record player. Pinewood is a perfect spot for meetings, studying, hang-outs, and dates! Everyone is a friend at Pinewood - you'll find tons of young professionals & students frequenting the vintage space. The baristas are pleasant and friendly, doing their jobs and with excellence If you're wanting a classic coffee experience, skip Starbucks, Dunkin, or Dutch. Pinewood is truly a Waco staple that people don't talk about enough!!!

Yelp

Yelp
Cool atmosphere, love the decor! Strong WiFi connection, nice outdoor seating. And easily able to social distance. 1st time busting I had a dirty chai, the second I had Egyptian tea. The staff was friendly...parking is plentiful.
google avatar

Max T.

Yelp
A great little cafe on the corner with a minimalist interior. The coffee can be hit or miss depending on the barista, but good overall.
google avatar

Hannah S.

Yelp
Met up with a friend here and loved the atmosphere! It was a light and inviting place with plenty of seating both indoor and outside. I will say the interior pew like seats are not the comfiest though. The barista was so helpful in assisting me with making a selection and even double checked that I wanted it hot when she wasn't sure which I admired. Overall Pinewood is a great place to sit and stay for a while with a good cup of coffee and I'd recommend it!
google avatar

David B.

Yelp
Great coffee worth the wait. The music was amazing and don't worry about the line it goes quick.
google avatar

Waco S.

Yelp
Immaculate chill coffee vibes and cool bar on the opposite side. Always such a good selection of local and strange imported beer cans, and a bunch of cool stuff on draft too. Coffee is roasted and bagged in house and is so good - can't skip on the classic Rover blend!
