The 15 Best Fried Chicken Sandwiches In Austin

"Pinthouse Brewing in South Austin is a side project from the folks behind Pinthouse Pizza, and while beer was always a large focus at the other locations, here it’s at the forefront. On their recently-revamped menu is the Austin Hot Chicken sandwich. It’s a fried chicken breast—though almost tender enough to be confused for a thigh—covered in a sweet and spicy Nashville hot sauce, black pepper vinaigrette slaw, all between two thick slices of pullman bread. It’s spicy, it’s peppery, and it’s reason enough to switch your allegiances from Pinthouse Pizza to Pinthouse Brewing (which, fortunately, you’ll never have to do). The 45 Best Outdoor Patios And Backyards At Austin Restaurants And Bars

"Pinthouse Brewing is a side project from the folks behind Pinthouse Pizza, and while beer was always a large focus at the original locations, here it’s at the forefront. But one of our favorite things about this particular location is the large, sprawling semi-enclosed patio. It’s fully covered and shaded from the sun, but with breeze blocks and open walls that keep the air flowing freely. It’s difficult to tell if you’re indoors or outdoors when you’re here, but after a few Electric Jellyfishes, you won’t really care. " - raphael brion, nicolai mccrary

Pinthouse Brewing - Review - South Austin - Austin - The Infatuation

"Pinthouse Brewing is a side project from the folks behind Pinthouse Pizza, and while beer was always a large focus at the original locations, here it’s at the forefront. But that doesn’t mean you can’t still get some pizza while you’re here—you’ll just be getting a rectangular, sourdough Sicilian-style pie, instead of the circular pizzas you might be used to. You’ll also unlock access to a full range of sandwiches—including a Nashville fried chicken sandwich, roast beef po’boys, and muffulettas—that you can enjoy with their large menu of beers brewed in house. photo credit: Nicolai McCrary" - Nicolai McCrary

Had to make a trip to South Austin, Austin Recycle and Resource Recovery, so we decided to stop for lunch. A friend told me Pinthouse's food was good, and having previously liked some of their beers, I wanted to see for myself. We ordered two of the Smash Burgers, one with fries and the other with the slaw. The burger and fries were really delicious as well as the beer. I did not try the slaw, but my wife enjoyed it, says it was good. The Beluga ale had great flavor. Fresh ingredients and great made to order food with on-site brewed beer made for an awesome lunch. My son and I also played the ring swing game for the first time, both catching a hook after a few minutes of playing. Great lunch experience, and it was cool to get to see some of the brewery.

Google
We ordered a pizza and a veggie burger. Pizza name I can’t remember now. Food was awesome, that I remember. Amazing vibe. The beer flighty option was good.. my hubby loved it

Google
Good spot. The interior design is really dope looking. The food, while basic, is well made, fresh, and just enough flare to find appreciation in its offerings. As for the beer, nothing out of the ordinary in my opinion, as the beer selections didn't appear to be ground breaking in any way. And while I'm no beer aficionado, I can say the selections at least taste on par with what I had from other breweries. Certainly worth your time and money to check this spot out.

Google
LOVE IT HERE!!! they have seltzers i believe black berry. And it's delicious for all the non beer drinkers. The food is amazing and quick. The appetizers are great too. The vibe is amazing. The staff is friendly and helpful. I had a nice time.

Google
Everything here was fantastic. It was good enough that Pinthouse is one if my favorite breweries. However, having the food for the first time was out of this world good. Im convinced everything on the menu is 🔥🔥 We had: Food - "The OG" pizza (holy friggen cow good, get the ranch!!!) Fried Calamari(get the whole trifecta going calamari, banana pepp, shishito pepp) Basil Pesto Coleslaw (for a "simple" side this was still something to brag about) Drinks - Owls Brew (friggen fantastic, 1st time trying it) Scorpion Disco (my current favorite go-to from Pinthouse)

Google
Everything we ate was so good and came out extremely fast!!!! You seat yourself and can order at the bar or on your phone via QR code. the pretzel was so good as well as the mushroom pizza :) great selection of beers

Lisa Riedel

Google
Beers good... food looked better than it was. The chip and dip was a bit sweet. Not what I expected. The pizza looked really good, but we didn't enjoy it all that much. We had beer flights and sampled at least 8 different beers, and like almost all of them. Stuck mostly to IPAs, but I had an Amber that I really liked. I would likely try a different brewery next time since there are many to choose from.

Google
An absolute Austin treasure! A huge beer list of top tier beers that have their heavy hitters (electric jellyfish and training bines), often include fun collabs like double down and have seasonal brews like nomura. Top 5 IPA spots in the US IMO. Consistent, and packed with next level flavors and profiles. The food here is my favorite of all locations as well. Call me crazy, but I prefer the sourdough pizzas. They are thicker dough and more filling. It's unique and I love it. The OG is amazing and the chicken sandwich is also top level. Sure, it's not cheap, but in 2025 in Austin you get what you pay for. This place is 100% worth it. Only con... they could use more parking.

Yelp
This place is cool but dont come hear for a thursday night football game theyll boot you from the section by the tv's at 8:30 (they close at 10) dude was a total dork about it too. Brutal look but other than that solid chill spot for some beers.

Yelp
I recently attended a Saturday morning kickboxing workout event that was held in conjunction with Pinthouse Brewing Company. The event took place in their outdoor space, and it was an awesome way to start the day! After the workout, we headed inside to check out what Pinthouse Brewing had to offer. The vibe inside was fantastic. The staff were friendly, attentive, and made sure we felt welcomed. Service was prompt, which was perfect after a tough workout! The beers were excellent too - each one had unique flavors, and you could tell they really put thought into their craft. Overall, it was a great experience both for the workout and for unwinding afterward. I'd highly recommend checking this place out.

Yelp
Arrived for the supercharging and decided to cool off inside with a fun lunch. The atmosphere is some of the best in Austin, wide open spaces with high vaulted ceilings. It's so nice not to feel claustrophobic or old and moldy and archaic like other restaurants in ATX. The bathroom fixtures are sophisticated and better than almost any ATX bathroom. There is plenty of room to maneuver with a large group. It reminds me of my time abroad and I wish more Austin places were like this. I just really enjoy the ambiance here, it's a third home really. Kind of what you wish Starbucks (used to be) and even Mozart's could be. The Food: I had the chopped salad and a giant pretzel. The pretzel itself was perfectly done, not too crisp, no burn marks. I liked the mustard dipping sauces a lot. Be forewarned, they are intense and you should like Dijon mustard a lot. I used them sparingly, it was fun to try something new you can't get just anywhere. The chopped salad was the best, perfectly sized for a medium lunch, but not overly small. The Dijon vinaigrette was perfection. I've also had the hippie vegan burger with the basil slaw which is even better than the pretzel and chopped salad, highly recommend anything here, I don't think you can really go wrong. The service is ridiculously good, they are prompt and it's kind of like Loro and super easy to walk up and order. They always ask how I'm doing too. I wish they offered a brunch everyday, I'd certainly come to try the fried green tomatoes Benedict on a Tuesday morning. I'm excited to return and try a dessert and pizza and wish they'd add Pinthouse's honey pear to the menu here and maybe some chips and queso type options. I don't drink alcohol and this was such a nice surprise for me to find a cute lunch spot, even if the focus is beer first and foremost.

Yelp
Hadn't been in a while so decided to drop in. Love how big and open the space is- even in the Texas summer heat there are big fans and quite a nice breeze so sitting outside is tolerable. Ordered the pretzel first, it is giant so be prepared. The sauces are great- the mustard is very strong- good but strong. My son got the kids burger and it was the same size as mine except for 1 patty so score for that. The burger was delicious, got the sauce on the side and was glad I did because it was messy even without it (don't order if you're on a first date) my husband got the fried chicken sandwich and said it was different from others and liked it but would probably order something different the next time. Will return and try the pizzas next time!

Yelp
I love a place that is dog friendly! Pinhouse has this big covered area. This place has several IPAs ic that is your thing, this is the place. Thesándwiches. Just pizza, but also bar/pub food- chicken wings, sandwiches, etc. They have a kids menu.... I recommend the delicious peanut humus.
google avatar

Jennifer L.

Yelp
Good food w a good atmosphere, which is surprising. The outside portion of the sitting is still covered so you get the best of both worlds. But there is a choice to sit inside the restaurant as well. However, I ended up sitting inside the outside sitting and it was fun and unique.
google avatar

Jared D.

Yelp
The service at the front was quick and friendly, plenty of seating and had fans outside in a covered area. Everything look clean and great, expect just to get beer but their food tasted great!
google avatar

Michael K.

Yelp
Pizza was phenomenal. The beignets came with great sauces. The beer was outstanding. Highly recommend the nickel beer
google avatar

Jack G.

Yelp
Really excellent beer, with electric jellyfish being a favorite for Austin locals. Will continue to come here

Yelp
Our training team went to lunch (on the boss) for a "job well done!" appreciation event. We all loved the open air feel and the open vibe of the space overall. Our pizzas were deep dish specialties which were awesome. Those who ordered sandwiches were pleased but said they'd choose the pies next time. Couldn't sample the brews this time but for sure next time.

Yelp
AUSTIN, TX: Pinthouse Brewing is a special spot that is dog friendly! A unique indoor patio, yes you read that right, is where doggie guests are allowed. Signage is clearly marked where the pups can be and it is spacious, climate controlled, and has an elevated beer hall vibe. There are 15 craft beers on tap with additional guest taps of hard seltzer, cider, kombucha, wine, and more! We loved seeing a wheat beer (Weather Light) and it was delicious! They even have food and are famous for their sourdough pizza and also have salads, sandwiches, and appetizers like a large Texas Pretzel with their own beer inspired mustard and cheese dips. Pinthouse was a great nightcap to an incredible dog friendly Texan experience!
google avatar

Adrianna H.

Yelp
We love all pinthouse locations! The beer is always great, service is quick and food is delish! Today we got the wings, a burger and their new style pizza offered at the brewery! All were so good!

Jack H.

Yelp
I came to the Pinthouse on Ben White with high expectations after having the Oh La La pizza with hot honey at other locations--it was hands down some of the best pizza I've ever had. But I was really disappointed here especially having brought my friends and family. The menu was completely different; instead of the usual thin, circular pizza, this location serves a Chicago deep-dish style that was more like a loaf of bread. I also wanted a simple side Caesar salad, but they only offered three salad options, so I settled for the chopped salad, which was good but it was the size of an entree. The pretzel and beer were great, but I can't understand why the main dishes vary so much between locations for a locally owned business. If you're expecting the same pizza experience as other Pinthouse spots, this might be a letdown.

Yelp
Serious brewery with a solid selection of beers. Excellent pizza and shareables. Shared a snack : pickled egg, dry rub wings and an ice cold beer. Cool venue and friendly staff. Recommend!
google avatar

Daniel S.

Yelp
Pinthouse Brewery produces my favorite beer in town the Electric Jellyfish and I've been a patron of their pizza joints for years. However, their brewery holds a special place in my heart, not only for the great beer selection but also for the variety of food options you can only find here. I visited a few weeks ago with a friend and realized I hadn't reviewed them yet, despite being here before. The brewery is spacious and modern, yet still approachable, with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. You order food and drinks at the counter, and a server brings your food to your table based on the number they give you. The beer menu mainly rotates, with staples like Training Bines and Electric Jellyfish staying on full time. For food, there are plenty of shareable options like wings and salads, but for something more filling, they offer different sandwiches and Detroit-style pizzas. I went with the O.G, which is my personal recommendation, especially if you like ricotta. Pinthouse Brewery should be on anyone's list to visit, especially if you're a beer connoisseur like myself.

Yelp
Chose this location to charge as I was going to order take out as well. Noticed employee parking non-EV in charging spot. While not an issue as it currently wasn't busy. I seemed like a rude thing to do at the beginning of a shift. Shared my feedback with someone inside and went to my car. Employee approached my car and told me there are plenty of spots open. No kidding. I shared that information inside. Doesn't seem like much to ask for employees not to randomly take up EV charging spots. I will never be back. My company will never be back. It will be a bummer if RR location has the same management.
google avatar

Minh D.

Yelp
I went here for an event and absolutely adore this place. I have been to Pinthouse Pizza but this space is even more spacious, bright and beautiful. There are two floors and it is huuuuge. Love that they have sourdough for pizza and breads offerings - I'm a sucker for high quality ingredients vs. fancy concoction, staffs were friendly. Shared a dish with crunchy toasts and white fish dip and it was delicious. Would love to come back and bring friends :)
google avatar

Suzannah G.

Yelp
This is the perfect spot to grab a drink and socialize with friends! I will say, the food isn't the BEST - instead go for the drinks! The vibes are laid back and chill. There are a few "yard" games such as corn hole, shuffle board, and even board games to use. On game days it can get packed and really loud - so avoid if possible!
google avatar

Michelle V.

Yelp
Amazing pizza! We absolutely loved the pizza - got the original with pepperoni and ricotta cheese and spicy honey! The crust is incredible and toppings are delicious! We also split the southwest salad and it was stupid good!! Would get the same thing all over again next time. Will be visiting location closer to my home next time. Really nice outdoor patio at this location! Beautiful location
google avatar

Sarah C.

Yelp
Ambiance: great, the brewery is a large and airy space with a very nice indoor space as well as a lovely covered patio area. Service: great, employees are friendly and helpful as always. Beer: great, all the usuals plus they tend to have a couple more options than the regular pinthouse locations. Food: y'all are one of the top pizza places in Austin and yet someone decided "let's switch it up and make something different for the brewery"? Come on guys, just serve your regular amazing pizza! I don't want sandwiches, I don't want focaccia pizza, I really don't want boiled peanuts, , just give me your delicious chewy-crust pizza!! -1 star and honestly this upsets me enough that I want to make it more but realistically it's a nice place so I'll just deduct one.
google avatar

Bhagyashree B.

Yelp
The Texas pretzel with beer cheese and mustard dips is a great shareable appetizer and can be very filling. Mushroom man pizza is delicious - the fluffy sourdough crust, red sauce and pesto toppings - this is one of a kind pizza - haven't had anything like it! I love how airy and open this location is.
google avatar

Megan S.

Yelp
I hate the feeling of loaded up greasy pizza that gives you a stomach ache after you eat and I am SO glad we found this place because the pizza was to die for. It's made on sourdough and is so light and airy, still thick but because it's so light it doesn't make you feel gross. They have a variety of delicious toppings as well, we had one with ricotta that was delicious. The drinks were good as well with lots of different options from beer to sodas if you don't drink. The space itself was beautiful, very open, modern, and lots of natural light. We just got take out again from here because we loved it so much!
google avatar

Genevieve M.

Yelp
Fun brewery to check out with friends! The interior was nice place to hang out and we came on Saturday during their flea market. I didn't try the food, but it looked yummy.
google avatar

Raquel C.

Yelp
The fried green tomatoes benedict was soo good! The shrimp and grits pizza was different, but still surprisingly good. These brunch foods are totally worth it!

Danny J.

Yelp
Came here for the Tesla Charging and stayed for the food. Tried out the Mushroom man pizza which had mushrooms, onions, pesto, goat cheese. You can't go wrong with goat cheese! The chopped salad was good too. The Dijon dressing was better than the avocado dressing.
google avatar

Elizabeth H.

Yelp
If I were just rating the beer, it would be five stars--go for the beer, you'll love it. However, when it comes to the pizza, there's a fine line between crisp and burnt, and they crossed it. The sourdough crust had great potential, but it was a bit too burnt on the bottom for my liking. I also wasn't a fan of the added honey. That said, I'd still come back and give it another try.
google avatar

Pete X.

Yelp
I got the O.G. off doordash Eww! Weird flavor, dough was too thick even for the Detroit style, burnt beyond belief pepperonis, overall just not a good pizza, REALLY BAD!
google avatar

Danita M.

Yelp
Pinthouse is one of my favorite breweries! The location on Ben White is spacious with indoor and outdoor seating. Even on a warm day, sitting on the patio is nice. This particular Saturday they had the Austin Flea Market on the patio. My absolute favorite beer is the Magical Pils, it's a perfect crisp beer for those hot Texas days. My husband loves The OG pizza, all their pizzas are great but this one stands out! Service at this location is always quick and super friendly. It's a great place to catch up with friends over beers or watch a game!
google avatar

Stephanie B.

Yelp
If you love Beer--the !new! "New Zealand Scorpion Disco" delivers a flavor that can best be described as a lighted mirror ball of IPA beer followed by tropical flavor that will involve your whole tongue. Probably limited time (posted 08/24), move it quickly to PintHouse to try this original recipe and delight by PintHouse. YUM!
google avatar

Jazmyne M.

Yelp
Love the order-from-the table-on-your-phone format!!! Everything comes out so quick! The beer selection is amazing and the food was even better. Or maybe I mean that the other way around. Everything was awesome. They had an awesome live band the day we came. Bathrooms are clean and the staff and very helpful
google avatar

Heath H.

Yelp
We love this place!!! Unfortunately we only come here when we are flying out of Austin! Food & beer are amazing!!!
google avatar

Alanna J.

Yelp
This is my usual post golf brunch spot. They have a great breakfast sandwich. However, I recently popped in for dinner as I had a friend in town that wanted to check it out. Parking was pretty easy since the parking lot is huge. It was a Friday night and the place was pretty lively but still possible for us to find a table. We sampled a few beers, the guy who helped us was great and gave even better recommendations. My friend and I both ended up going with the Mexican beer which went well with our pizza and wasn't too heavy. The pizza was very tasty and they give you giant portions. BUTTTTT my favorite thing I have had here is the Southwestern Kale salad. We couldn't stop eating it. We even went back and just ordered the salad at our next visit. I don't think you can go wrong with anything you order here. They don't disappoint.
google avatar

Hayley S.

Yelp
We came for a beer & food, it was delicious. The space is big enough for date night couples and big groups. We ended up getting stuck in a rain storm, but wasn't mad about it. The employees are friendly and knowledgeable. We can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Manny M.

Yelp
Had the O.G. delivered and I'm sure glad I did!! The Detroit style pizza was awesome!! The dough, the crust, the sauce, the pepperoni, the ricotta, the basil. Every ingredient woke the taste buds.
google avatar

Paula L.

Yelp
Came here for a quick lunch and love the atmosphere and decor. I thought this was Pinthouse Pizza but it's not. The food selection was different. We ordered a salad and pizza. Salad was AMAZING 10/10. I'll be back for just that. The pizza however was mediocre. It was a deep dish square pizza that was very heavy, too salty, and the crust was lacking that deep dish crisp. Overall, still a great place to chill.
google avatar

A'kiesha D.

Yelp
Visiting Austin stop by the Pinthouse Brewing company. They offer a variety of bar snack and brews!!

J. S.

Yelp
Been here many times, and the service is always good. Love the sourdough pizza!! My fiancé is gluten sensitive, and he can eat that pizza and drink that beer with minimal discomfort - it's an amazing thing! I love the selection of hoppy IPAs that Pinthouse offers. Scorpion Disco and Training Bines are our favorites. I love when they do non-sugary stouts, and the Mama Bear barleywine is amazing (hope they bring it back!). Also, the atmosphere at this location is nice. It's a great place to chill and enjoy an outdoor feel without the elements.
google avatar

Stephanie J.

Yelp
My friend and I both ordered flights here, you get to choose 5 beers. I selected the black star, waiting room, moxee lady, scorpion and training bines. The beer was just okay if I had to pick a favorite it would be the electric jellyfish (I did not order this since I had tried it before). I really liked the space and they serve food so it's worth checking out. Cheers!
google avatar

Jay D.

Yelp
Amazing atmosphere, amazing people and the Electric Jellyfish is amazing . Very easy process to order any and everything you want . Extremely clean facility and great staff!!!
google avatar

Kimberly B.

Yelp
Huge location, loud and open. The food was really good. Great for large groups!!!!! Dogs allowed. I was traveling but would absolutely recommend.
google avatar

Aaron B.

Yelp
Outstanding place! Top beers, particularly their IPAs and hazy beers. They always seem to have new beers on rotation to keep it fresh too! Electric Jellyfish is their best and very unique, but bailing room and training vines are also top level beers. The sourdough pizza at this location is way better than you'd expect! I think I like it even more than normal Pinthouse pizza pizzas. 5 big stars.

Valeri A.

Yelp
Popped in as a happy accident while looking for a Tesla supercharger for our rental car. Finally a benefit to having to constantly plug in an EV. Walking in is like a breath of fresh air! All life plants, open seating, fans. The staff all greeted us as soon as we walked in and they were so friendly and informative! We got the brewers board to ear which was amazing! A perfect little bit to go along with the amazing brews. Don't sleep on this place... check it out next time you're in Austin.
google avatar

Craig S.

Yelp
I had lost my way since the divorce. Body drained from years of pumping out kids. Cigarettes didn't help my skin. Decided to have my chest done over the holidays. Find my confidence again. Pumped up the twins with 800cc each. Implant and lift...going for balloon animals. Pinthouse was the first place I went with my shiny new rack. Slid up to the bar, cantaloupes out, like two waxed water balloons. Next to me was a hipster wearing one of those hats. Let him look as I eased into my seat. Staff was so friendly and helpful. Had a delicious electric jellyfish. Let a little spill down my valley, didn't wipe it. Next I had a pizza. Heavy heaving breaths as I cooled down the delicious cheese. Giant fake lips pursed like the backside of a baboon. Delicious pizza. A little sauce on my chest. Oops. Thanks Pinthouse. Got my confidence back.
google avatar

Brenda H.

Yelp
It was great for our club happy hour. Some folks went to the wrong location... this is not Pint House Pizza... And, some people wished they had the same menu as the pizza places... But I liked their pizza so much better. It's Detroit style like Via 313, but better in my opinion. Everything was great. The staff was great. The pizza was great. The beer was great. And the outside seating was very nice, even as hot as it was that day.
google avatar

Nan T.

Yelp
Came here for drinks a few weeks ago. I was already a fan of Pinthouse's beers from their pizza restaurants but I loved the experience of going to their brewery. They have soooo many beers to choose from, plenty of seating, and an easy order process. Great service, great music, and great vibe. Everything you could want in a brewery. And a plus -- plenty of parking.
google avatar

Josh P.

Yelp
Pinthouse brewing is a pretty cool spot but definitely different than the Pinthouse pizza locations. Same great beer as their other pizza locations but different food options. They do have sourdough pizza and it's pretty legit. I also like the brewers board (charcuterie). For beers, electric jellyfish is always good but they usually have 15 different options with a mix of lagers, ipas, and stouts. They have a nice totally covered almost outside space and also totally inside area by the bar.

Sofia A.

Yelp
"We don't have pizza" okay I'll take a plain burger, "well it comes with pickles" Let's try a little harder next time, friends. I promise you a little effort would be so helpful!
google avatar

Valerie S.

Yelp
Pinthouse has become such a staple in Austin. The addition of the brew house was the best move. They have a solid menu of apps and sandwiches and other specials. Their outdoor patio is fantastic year round. It's fresh in the summer and warm in the winter. You can't complain about that kind of spot. It's also just really pretty and relaxing. Their staff is always extremely helpful and friendly. They'll help you figure out what beer you're looking for and of course they have their staples, lookin at you Electric Jellyfish.

Yelp
Great pizza and beer, friendly service, good ambiance. Enjoyed our time here and would definitely recommend!
