"Pinyon is a sourdough bakery, wine shop, and pizza emporium that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Sure, they use local produce and naturally-leavened dough in all their products, but they also have a green neon sign shaped like a frog and sell shirts that say “Pepperoni Star Stuff” on the back. During the day, you’ll find bagels, hoagies, and a couple of square slices on their old-school menu board. At night, they serve puffy-crusted, wood-fired pies topped with things like giardiniera, rainbow chard, ricotta, and confit garlic. If you’re lucky, you might even catch one of Pinyon’s special pop-up dinners—they’ve already done collaborations with LA spots like Little Fish and Greekmans. "We fully endorse spending the day on the couch. But, in the event you’re looking to get out, few things beat a 90-minute trip up the coast to Ojai. This hippie-dippy mountain town could very well be a different universe. There’s a walkable downtown, a world-famous spa, and great hiking. Just be sure you stop at Pinyon for lunch. During the day, this order-at-the-counter bakery and pizza emporium serves things like bagels, barbacoa hoagies, and thick square slices—a.k.a exactly what you want to put in your body after accidentally walking up the entire side of the mountain. If you get thirsty, grab a bottle from the attached wine shop." - Brant Cox, Nikko Duren

Google
This may have been our highlight of Ojai! My sister and I were looking for a lunch spot that wasn’t too expensive or fancy and ran across this great little place. Not only is the place full of personality and charm, with friendly workers, the food is Amazing!! We got a pizza to split and loved all of the interesting options, and loved ours with the pine nuts on top. The tiramisu was also incredible and very unique, and we picked up a fresh loaf of bread to go, looked too good to miss (and one guy walking out even recommended it as we were considering). (Also loved the themed bathroom, just so much thought and care put into this place). If you’re in Ojai, absolutely would recommend

Google
Service was great everyone working there was really nice. I got the sandwich with cured meat and cheese. They then asked if I wanted to add “the works”. I then learned that if I didn’t pay two more dollars on an already high price tag sandwich that I would get a very plain sandwich. The quantity of cured meat and salami, was two ultra thin sad slices with two thin slices of cheese. The amount of hidden fees in ordering the sandwich took away so much from the nice atomosphere they have worked to create in there.

Google
Nice bakery, and the bagel with lox is good… however, the prices are very high even for bloated brunch prices, and they charge a mandatory 20% fee (no tipping expected). This means a bagel and lox ends up being about $20 ($15ish + tax + 20% fee). Pizza was not very good

Google
Such a cute spot and BOMB food. We loved the breakfast bagel sandwiches. We bought multiple pastries and a loaf of bread. Highly recommend!

Google
Pizza was delicious, and so were the olives. Didn't like that they auto charge 20% even for take away when there's no service.

Tony and the team from Pinyon Ojai were an absolute joy to work with. I was designated on taking on a quest to search for a parting treat for our wedding guests. I knew I wanted to do something special and delicious pizza was the way to go. Tony was very easy to arrange our plans and easy to work with. From the day we chatted to the weekend up to the big day. I had selected 3 different pizzas to give as parting meal gifts for the guests. Everyone could smell the deliciousness from outside from the mobile brick over. Easy set up! Friendly team! They were very kind and really got our guests excited. If you ever are looking for something special and memorable for catering please stop by Pinyon in Ojai and ask for Tony. They don’t just do pizzas, they have a series of the best breads, they do lasagne Mondays, and my personal favorite is the white fish special on sesame seed bagel with capers and cucumbers. Thank you Tony and the Pinyon Fam for making our wedding night very special. Our guests raved about the goodbye food pizzas all day long the following day.

Google
Stumbled onto Pinyon on our last annual trip to Ojai and were blown away by this absolute gem. Wake up with one of the best breakfast sandwiches I've had in my life, end the day with a fantastic selection of natural/fun wines and seriously good pizza. 10/10 will revisit again and again. Almost forgot to mention the bathroom is ACTUALLY worth checking out, even if only for the extremely good vibes ; )

Google
Delicious, great quality food, you can taste the freshness of the ingredients. We got the meatballs, fungi pizza and the margarita pizza and everything was perfect. Really good crust and sauce on the pizzas, we will definitely be back!

Yelp
Was in Ojai for a few hours and decided to get something quick so we went for pizza. This place is amazing with friendly and patient staff on first timers! We had the Margherita pizza along with freshly squeezed orange juice was wonderfully refreshing. Caesar salad was amazing. When it hit 4 pm, we also had another pizza that was available dinner time. Because we were getting ice cream after, we didn't get dessert which was the pistachio tiramisu - biggest food regret on this trip to Ojai. Place is quaint with a few tables inside and outside, but since it was drizzling, most peeps opted in. A sure stop for next time in Ojai. Oh, don't miss going to the bathroom - ribbit.

Yelp
My wife went in to grab a bagel and was told that extra 20% "worker health benefit fee" is automatically added to the bill. When we reviewed the receipt, it says 20% gratuity/tips. I guess they tried to rephase their forced tipping with some other terms. I guess this has been happening for a while based on other's review. The bagel tasted fairly good - we got one with bacon, eggs and cheese. But we will not returned again and would not recommend this store. Note - we were at another Ojai restaurant which also charge a health fee (4%) for dined in service. I think that is reasonable in comparison, I would gladly pay that AND gratuity separately for their good service.

Keith C.

Yelp
Excellent restaurant! The bacon egg and cheese on onion bagel was delicious. Wood fired!? Are you kidding me. Do wish there was more bacon though. Dinner was also delicious! Pinyon pizza and the pistachio tiramisu was the perfect combination. Low-key set up but high key delicious!

Sonny P.

Yelp
I understand inflation and rising COL has made some businesses increase their prices; however, $24 for a small bowl of lasagna that had the register include $6(20%) tip bringing the total to $30 wasn't worth it. The lasagna didn't taste anything special I could have cooked on my own from a Walmart frozen meal. The staff are great people and I wish them the best. The price for the food and its portion size is the problem. I have eaten at a restaurant where I saw the chef make lasagna from scratch and when I ate it, it was unique, good and worth the price. This one, not so much.

Yelp
Decided to drive through Ojai on our way back home from a trip to the central coast and stumbled upon Pinyon on Yelp. Love a good pizza so we knew we had to come try. Parking lot was a little tricky as it shared a lot with a few other stores and restaurants. We ended up parking on the street to find space. Inside was not very busy so quickly placed our order and sat ourselves. Good came out fairly quickly- halibut crudo and Porco Rossi pizza. Crudo was amazing, pizza was good but not the best I've ever had. I think next time I'd try the margarita pizza. Very cute place, and super cute bathroom with frog decor and rainforest sound machine- such a cool touch!

Pamela H.

Yelp
Cozy store front pizza place. Morning they have bagels and hoagies, afternoon they have salads and pizzas. ALL of the bread is house made, as well as the yogurt in the morning. The pizzas are handmade to order in front of you! Order. The. Broccolini. AMAZING. Specialty wine and beer. Great service.

Sarah B.

Yelp
Personal size pizza for $30 is outrageous. Also the restaurant was empty but wouldn't seat us for reservations coming 30 minutes later. It's good pizza and they made it very quickly but too pricey.

Mecca B.

Yelp
Seating inside and outside. Parking is limited when it's busy. Street parking. Cool spot. Even cooler employees. Didn't know what to order so we had help from one of the employees. Pizza is so yummy! Thin and crispy.

Victoria S.

Yelp
Made reservations & was seated right away. I saw them turning people away without reservations. They have limited seating inside & outside. You order at the register, there was a long line, I felt rushed so we didn't have a lot of time to look over the menu. We enjoyed the market greens, it was light and refreshing with pieces of fruit & pistachios. The broccolini was only ok, it was a little spicy with a mayo/mustard flavor. I did not like my margheritaville pizza, it did not look like the photos I've seen on Yelp. There was barely any mozzarella, you can only taste the tomato sauce & there was no basil. I asked about the basil & they said it was not in season. If I had known they didn't have basil I would have ordered something else. My husband enjoyed his pizza, he ordered the margheritaville pizza with pepperoni & sausage. The worst part about dinner was that I got FOOD POISONING from their desserts. I ordered the Black sesame chocolate budino, it was a pudding, I didn't taste chocolate only black sesame. The Pistachio Tiramisu was better but both desserts had a cream that didn't taste right to me. Afterwards I was sick for 3 hours. My husband ate everything I ate except the desserts so he felt fine.

Ray M.

Yelp
This place is phenomenal! The pizza was incredible, the staff was kind and I loved being able to sit at the counter close to the pizza making action. I honestly can't wait to go back! I stumbled upon this place when I was passing through town. It's a small place, with limited seating, and a few outdoor seats. This place may be small, but the food is full of flavor! I ordered the Porco Rosso and the flavors were absolutely wonderful. I think what really made this pizza so wonderful was the dough. I was talking with one of the pizza makers and he told that it's a 72 hour dough. It was flavorful, chewy, and the cook was great and had a wonderful char. This place is wonderful, and probably one of the best pizzas I've ever had. If I'm ever back in the area, I know exactly where I'll go for a great lunch or dinner.

Soyoun P.

Yelp
Bagel is chewy, crunch, but soft. Dank but not too heavy. So good don't miss out. Italian hoagie with veggie add on is unique and yummy well balanced. Service is amazing. Staffs are so kind

Katie D.

Yelp
This bread is to die for. Period. There's not much else that needs to be said about the food because all the goodness starts with the bread which they bake fresh every day. What also really impressed me was the staff! They were some of the kindest and most helpful people. I got the sense that that is just who they are. They weren't only considerate to the customers but to each other as well. I really appreciated the energy they bring to this place. Other things to know: They have a bottle shop as well if you're looking for a quick grab to accompany your pizza or if you need to bring a banguette and bottle to a friend's dinner party. Also they have some fun limited edition merch if you're a super fan. I recommend you bring your kids, your friends, and your dogs and enjoy this special frog loving place.

Rick S.

Yelp
I don't like this new concept of automatically including a 20% tip in the bill. Food was very good but it's the principle. Won't go back there.

casie k.

Yelp
Still a favorite! Although I don't always make it to the store front, I LOVE that there pastries and sandwiches can be available at nearby coffee shops in ventura & Santa Barbara county! I was shocked to find this out, but equally as excited when I found them in other places too!

Kara W.

Yelp
I was in Ojai for just a night and walked by this charming corner restaurant and saw an amazing pizza sitting on an outside table, my mouth started watering immediately but I had already eaten prior to it. I had to snap a photo (attached). Next time I'm in town I'm definitely going, and getting this same pizza!

Sergei G.

Yelp
I ordered 2 pizzas for to go, for $22 each, and they included 20% tips for to go order. They didn't serve me, because it's to go, they even didn't give me bag and napkins. This type of scam should't exist. About food, one of the pizzas was good, but second was over salted and burned. Overall experience bad.

Adam G.

Yelp
These guys do it right. I see the owners at the weekly farmers market picking out ingredients. I see farmers dropping off fresh produce when I drive by. It makes a noticeable difference. The wood fired pizzas are big enough to share with 2 people but thin enough to eat by yourself depending on how hungry you are. The staff is friendly and helpful. Gratuity is automatically included so you don't have to worry whether you are tipping enough. I haven't tried the wines yet but they have an actual wine club and I bet they are way better than you would expect to find in a local pizza restaurant. If you live in town this is the kind of business you want to support. If you are visiting then it's the perfect place to experience what Ojai has to offer.

Mary H.

Yelp
We had breakfast here when in Ojai and were a bit disappointed! I got a breakfast bagel sandwich that was very oily and though I got a unique bagel (furikake), I couldn't taste anything beyond the sesame seeds of it. My partner got a yogurt bowl that had some sort of sweet apple butter in it that made it overly sweet. I'm sure what they're known for more are their pizzas, so I would try again if in the area for lunch or dinner.

Ted D.

Yelp
This pizza is fkn DELICIOUS! Fast, fun, and financially friendly. Ellie is efficient beyond words. Thanks all. My fav spot in Ojai cuz of you all.

Will P.

Yelp
This place was delicious, we ordered the margherita pizza and were very happy with how it came out. Not greasy at all but delicious, I would recommend to anyone in Ojai. We will definitely be coming back if we ever drive through this town again!

Eilrama B.

Yelp
Terrible service and extremely rude wait staff. I would advise against going to that place at all costs

Shelby J.

Yelp
Stopped in this place for a quick bite before we started our day in Ojai. Most places stop serving breakfast at 11, and don't start serving lunch until 12, so we were looking for something quick and this was the perfect place. Service was fast, ambiance was very nice. Our food choice was a bagel with this wonderful cream cheese. Oh and please visit the bathroom before you leave. You will be pleasantly surprised.

Leighanne O.

Yelp
If I could give this place 0 stars I would, because a 1 star review is too nice!! This place had THEE ABSOLUTE WORST SERVICE EVER!! The man who was tall with brown hair and a mustache was extremely rude and not patient with my friend and I! He was chummy and chatty with others. He came across as condescending and stuck up towards us, he didn't need to be a total asshole!! He seemed bothered that we asked basic questions inquiring their bagels, and due to the bagels being poorly labeled and not easily labeled to tell what they are, which by the way isn't easy for a first timer and a last timer. They weren't even toasted really, which was another red flag to me, they were basic bagels. I loved (in sarcasm) the bonus 20% gratuity tip, for what?! Piss poor service and attitude?! I don't think so! As a life long Ojai local I will never give this place my money again. That place can kick rocks!! All locals run away!! I'd rather get bagels at another business and pizza at Ojai Pizza the superior pizza spot in town unlike this joke of a place. And the atmosphere of this place was very LA rude!! I will continue to drive passed by this joke of a place!

Sarah B.

Yelp
Headed to Pinyon today to try a sourdough wood-fired pizza and fresh salad. I ordered their margarita pizza + little gems salad. Seriously tasty. Flavorful and fresh eats. The sourdough crust makes the pizza really shine, along with fresh basil and maybe some of the best sauce I have had. Woodfired and nicely crisp. The best cheese to sauce ratio and nice little drizzle of olive oil to top it off. I will be dreaming of this pizza. Salad was fresh, tasty and the dressing was refreshing. Love that they use fresh and local ingredients. Staff were friendly, love the frog them decor (check out their bathroom!!). I also learned they are open from 9-9 so I plan to try them out for dinner soon. Def an Ojai gem!!

Gene G.

Yelp
Fun food service and ambiance! The owner is there to make things happen. Nice weekend stop on the way home .

Jeff C.

Yelp
Food was just ok. Focaccia was burnt. ordered the turkey Italian. charged me extra for the works. I didn't even ask for the works, whatever that is. short and sweet. I wI'll not be going back. Get a better sandwich down the street from the grocery store deli.

Jessica L.

Yelp
Visited four times on a four day trip, so so sooooo good! Best breakfast bagel, incredible pizza, but the very best is the service. Ellie helped us each time & while the food was truly delicious her kindness made everything that much better!

Nancy S.

Yelp
The best bagel and cream cheese, the best lox sandwich I have EVER had! We walked in unknowing we were about to experience such an outstanding yet simple breakfast! If you're in the area, try it out. Their bagels are baked fresh. Their lox cured in-house. Their cream cheese made in house. I wish they had a spot closer to home.

Hun Young L.

Yelp
When we entered around 3:30 pm they asked us if we had an appointment. The tables were all empty but we could not get a table. For this reason, we made To Go the Smoky Coat Pizza and he charged an involuntary 20% service fee for the To Go. The pizza taste was nothing unique. The bottom of the pizza was all burned and the arugula was not fresh. While waiting for 30 minutes for the Pizza To Go, I noticed that he was packing the loaf of bread into a translucent bag with his bare hand. In other words, he is supposed to use a disposable glove or paper to grab the bread. It seems not hygienic. By the way, the restroom door lock from the inside is not working.

Miki T.

Yelp
Awesome fire baked pizza and locally baked breads and best Caesar salad! Kid friendly. Service is warm and friendly.

John G.

Yelp
20 percent gratuity added to every bill when there isn't any service. That's the ultimate scam. If the food was incredible, that might be one thing but we are talking about a $25 pizza so tiny and burnt that it's really criminal. Locals avoid this place for a reason.

Diana H.

Yelp
Came here for lunch last weekend when we were visiting town. Staff is friendly and they automatically add a 20% grat to your bill so no need to think about that. We got the Italian sandwich, farmers market salad, bean appetizer and buckwheat chocolate chip cookie. The bread for the sandwich was freshly made and just perfect. We added the works which is a must do. Highly recommend if you are looking for a casual Yummy lunch! Ohh and I loved the fresh made lemonade.

Hey Y.

Yelp
Pizza was burnt! Tiny pizza with the black crust... there was not much left to eat. Horrible. Also, thank you for the 20% surprise automatic tip. If you can't pay your employees well, that should not be my problem. It does not have to be mandatory.

Wyn H.

Yelp
Little brother and I road tripped up to Ojai and found this delicious gem of a spot. We got the Madonna mushroom and Porco Rosso pizza. Both read deliciously BUT we were not prepared for the flavor profile!! Beyond delicious!! The front counter hostess was super cool and engaging. We felt her attentiveness even when the entire place was filled up. The chefs were calming to watch as they created each bit of tasty masterpiece. I've have pizza and in my personal O Pinyon ( I'm sorry, I had to) this pizza is the best I have ever tasted!!

Stell A.

Yelp
Updating review with Pinyon's personal email responses to me regarding the issues raised in my review:

Catherine D.

Yelp
Delicious wine, salad, and pizza. But OMG the pistachio tiramisu was INSANE!! Must GET ASAP!

Shellby M.

Yelp
Cozy little restaurant with a warm touch at any time of the day. I had came here before and ordered the philly cheesesteak. This time I ordered the margharitaville pizza. I had no knowledge prior to coming how this pizza was supposed to look so i went off what the menu read. The pizza alone didn't come with anything but red sauce, oregano and cheese. It's insane that i had to pay an extra of $4 for pepperoni on top of the $18 pizza and 20% service charge. Once i received my pizza it left a bitter tase in my mouth... the pizza was so burnt from the bottom it was so hard to taste anything but the burnt crust. I had to call the server over because I felt that paying $30 for a pizza, with 5 little slices, burnt all over just didn't seem right. She had the cooks redo it for me and this time it was a bit better. The tall server wasn't too friendly given her stares of dislike towards me and my partner after we called for her service (service that was paid for before hand... involuntarily). As we left the restaurant we turned to her to say thank you and she completely disregarded our gratitude. The server with the glasses was very kind and even offered to take our dirty plate away. She smiled and said goodbye as we left.

Courtney W.

Yelp
The gentleman at the register was so friendly to my three year old and gave her a lemonade. The food is delicious and a great stop while shopping!

Andrew P.

Yelp
Walking downtown Ojai for the first time and see this lovely Frog Logo. Instantly had to check it out - and I'm glad I did. They have legit Pretzel Bagels. Not just a Plain Bagel with Salt, nope full fledge Pretzel in shape of a Bagel. Was a wonderful little treat. Service was also excellent - was treated to the most interesting Bathroom experience... Lol totally wholesome in that trippy sort of Frog room... ribbit

j d.

Yelp
This ain't no ordinary pizza joint. Jeremy incorporates the best of fine dining technique into a delightful sourdough pizza. Pinyon offers top notch coridial and personal service, high end ingredients creatively combined and presented at surprisingly affordable prices. Their entrees are true California coastal at ts best. The mackerel sings. We had merguez sausage with beans that was absolutely perfection on a plate. the dressing on the green salad is some to the tastiest that I have ever had. When you are in Ojai, make it a point to stop in, even if you're not hungry because their proprietary coffee is its own awesome jam.

Tara G.

Yelp
Amazing food and wine. I had a pizza and a caesar salad. I would definitely go back! Sat outside with my dog. Cute place.

K M.

Yelp
Pinyon is a fantastic restaurant! The pizza, and salad are the best, and the place is cozy. The food is a bit expensive, but it is worth it. If you live in LA, it's worth the drive to Ojai for it.

Genevi Z.

Yelp
Bacon Egg and Cheese bagel is in a league of it own! I got mine on a sesame bagel, my husband got it on an everything bagel, both were delish! Vibes were immaculate, staff was very kind and knowledgeable! Ojai OJ was great, the Laura Palmer is a must! The Laura Palmer was amazing and refreshing, super unique. We will def be back for dinner, a mandatory stop when in Ojai!

Victor S.

Yelp
The food was great. I had the Madonna pizza. Tasted like an elevated French onion soup. Wife had the Margheritaville. Tasted like it should with a sweetness to their red pizza sauce. The chicory caesar was different, earthy, but yummy. Service was great. Sit inside and watch the chefs in an open kitchen with a brick oven pizza. Pretty cool spot.

Alex L.

Yelp
Service was the worst wink wink. Crispy perfect chewy crust. GOD DAMNIT. I don't live here and now I have to come back to this terrible town and I'm looking forward to it. Fuck! If you read this review go there and eat, don't say anything good about it cause I don't want this place to blow up and next time I won't be able to get a seat at the counter. Thank you for an amazing experience

Mike J.

Yelp
I don't get the buzz, the pizza is good along the lines of many thin crust from places like Medici (the chain), but the menu is limited while costs are premium for a order at the counter. Beer and wine options but my red was overpriced for what it is.

Ivan L.

Yelp
The "square slice" tomato pie is more of a rectangle and was underwhelming considering I added parmesan and pepperoni. The bread was dense and chewy, mostly cold, and loaded with the tomato sauce; actually the sauce overpowered everything. I love pizza, and I've had "granny square" slices before but was bummed to find that this slice was mid. I added the cardamom iced tea and that was great! Tomato Pie: 2/5 Cardamom Iced Tea: 4/5

jill l.

Yelp
We recently had a prefix menu with wine selected by the team there for my husband's birthday and it was delightful. Everything tasted fresh, healthy and the pizzas were a delight. We loved the desserts as well. It's a great place if you want to keep it casual without having to give up good quality food. The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating and I'll definitely be going back. Thanks so much to the staff there.

Randy L.

Yelp
I was so delighted by this find! A gem of a restaurant/bakery. The wood fired pizza was incredible - so simple, but great quality ingredients. Gem salad was also delicious and had a very light dressing. I also got the broccolini and it was prepared so uniquely. Highly recommend this restaurant! Great service and great vibe. Love the branding and the way they carried the frog theme throughout the restaurant.
