The Best Restaurants in Ojai, California | Eater LA

"Carbohydrates are the star at this family and friend-operated pizzeria, where bagels, pastries, hoagies, wood-fired pizzas, and desserts shine. Pizzaiolo and co-owner Jeremy Alben apprenticed at Magnus Nilsson’s famed Swedish restaurant Fäviken — and it shows. The eponymous pizza, which debuted in 2021 with pop-ups and Instagram drops featuring kefir, confit onions, broccolini, Parmesan, and pine nuts." - Meaghan Clark Tiernan

The 15 Best Restaurants & Bars In Ojai - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Pinyon is a sourdough bakery, wine shop, and pizza emporium that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Sure, they use local produce and naturally-leavened dough in all their products, but they also have a green neon sign shaped like a frog and sell shirts that say “Pepperoni Star Stuff” on the back. During the day, you’ll find bagels, hoagies, and a couple of square slices on their old-school menu board. At night, they serve puffy-crusted, wood-fired pies topped with things like giardiniera, rainbow chard, ricotta, and confit garlic. If you’re lucky, you might even catch one of Pinyon’s special pop-up dinners—they’ve already done collaborations with LA spots like Little Fish and Greekmans. Keep an eye on their Instagram for the latest updates and fun weekly wine reviews." - nikko duren

The 20 Best Lunches In LA - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"We fully endorse spending the day on the couch. But, in the event you’re looking to get out, few things beat a 90-minute trip up the coast to Ojai. This hippie-dippy mountain town could very well be a different universe. There’s a walkable downtown, a world-famous spa, and great hiking. Just be sure you stop at Pinyon for lunch. During the day, this order-at-the-counter bakery and pizza emporium serves things like bagels, barbacoa hoagies, and thick square slices—a.k.a exactly what you want to put in your body after accidentally walking up the entire side of the mountain. If you get thirsty, grab a bottle from the attached wine shop." - Brant Cox, Nikko Duren

Google
Pinyon is a must-go for you next trip to Ojai! The staff there are very kind and laid back, and really know the menu well. We got two pizzas, the giant beans and the broccolini. If you go, GET THE BROCCOLINI! It’s finely cut with small pieces of date and some Calabrian chile, which makes for a super interesting veggie order. They also gave us a free sesame baguette on the way out - these people know their bread!

Google
A nice spot for a casual meal of salad and pizza. The salad dressing was unique and really tasty, while the pizza itself wasn’t particularly special but had a wholesome, healthy flavor. They don’t serve soda, so I tried the kombucha instead, which is locally made in Ojai—and it was surprisingly delicious. The atmosphere inside really captures the local Ojai vibe. If you plan to visit, make sure to check out the restroom—it’s definitely worth a stop!

Google
Thoroughly enjoyable! Exquisite pizza pie with a light finish and amazing flavor. Will joyfully finish one to myself as I stare into the fiery dome from whence it came!!! Good food aside, you must take a trip to the lavatory - thank me later!

John A.

Google
A delightful surprise! Wasn't our first choice for dinner but we ended up having an absolutely stunning meal. Ordering is a bit counter intuitive with the hybrid counter service / coursing, but the food more than makes up for it! The caesar salad was a lemony dream and the smokey goat cheese pizza was to die for! Will absolutely be coming back here.

Ariel W.

Google
Okay!! Aside from incredible staff… can I mention how fun the bathroom is?!? That aside. Snagged myself a cold brew & a pastry. Both were gone before the walk to my car. I will be back. I will order many, many things. high fives to all the dudes working Friday afternoon

Google
Must have forgot to review 10 months ago! This has been a go to spot when in Ojai. Post hike, post or pre anything honestly. Great sourdough pizza, the bagels are insane. I love how clean and tasty their ingredients are. Also, the homemade lemonade is crazy! They also serve great cold drinks as well. Super friendly.

Anne-Marie I.

Google
Visit to Ojai found Pinyon. We enjoyed a pizza, and salad for lunch that was outstanding. Their fresh lemonade was delicious and tart from locally grown lemons. We also got some bread that was freshly baked sourdough baguettes and a free form load. It is the best bread I’ve had in a long time. Well worth stopping.

Google
VERY unhappy with the service and food here at Pinyon. My friend and I came in looking forward to dinner since we’ve been wanting to try the food here. We ordered an $18 pizza which ended up costing us over $23 because they include gratuity, and it wasn’t even a full service restaurant! You still have to go to the front to order your own food and pour your own water, other than them bringing us our food I’m confused why tip is automatically included?? Also, probably wouldn’t have tipped much if it were up to me because the host/waitress was AWFUL. She honestly acted like she hated us… and we both sensed it. It was hard to get her attention, and when we asked for ranch she brought us a cup for free but then said they charge for extra? The whole experience felt very off, and the food was below average. I wouldn’t even be leaving this review though if not for the mandatory tipping on top of the awful service. Left a very bad taste in my mouth and will not be returning

Yelp
Disappointing Experience - Burnt Pizza & Poor Service I wanted to like this place, but it was a letdown. The owner, Tony, gave free cookies to two white couples ahead of us after learning it was their first visit. When my wife, who was right behind them, cheerfully said it was her first time too, he waved her off, said "no need for a tip," and walked away to make our pizza without gloves. This isn't about a cookie--it's about respect. The dismissive attitude left my wife feeling belittled. If you want to discriminate against someone at least be discreet about it. Then came the pizza: burnt on the bottom, with large, deep blackened areas--well past "charred" and into "burnt," giving it a bitter, acrid taste. Clearly overcooked or mishandled, not artisan style. The only saving grace was Mona, whose warm smile and kindness stood out, even when my wife returned later looking for her phone. Ojai deserves better hospitality than this.

Yelp
Pinyon in Ojai is a must! I highly recommend making a reservation in advance, as we were fortunate enough to secure a spot for dinner without one. However, we had to settle for an outdoor table but it was weather permitting. Order at the counter and you'll find an open kitchen behind, providing a glimpse into the culinary process. Here's what we ordered: Ordered the following: - Chicory Caesar $14 (Breadcrumb, Radish, Mint, Pecorino) - Woodfired Sourdough Bread $9 (added Stracciatella Cheese $9 - HIGHLY recommend) - Porco rosso $22 (Spicy Tomato Sauce, Pecorino Cheese, Soppressata, Breadcrumb, Confit garlic) - Yuzu Ranch $5 (mild yuzu taste but nice to dip the pizza in) Definitely enough food for 2 people. Maybe get some snacks, the beans or olives looked really good! We also returned the next day for coffee/breakfast and my wife really enjoy their bagel! Pinyon is a must-visit restaurant if you're in Ojai. I'll be back!

Yelp
So grateful for my experience at Pinyon this morning! I left with a full belly and heart and smiling all the way to the farmers market. I received a warm greeting before grabbing a coffee and a sourdough everything bagel that was still warm and oh so delicious. The ambiance is quirky (in the cool way), frog themed, clean and upbeat. I loved the bathroom decor as well Yes, this place is not "cheap" and there's a mandatory 20% service fee but this is the price of supporting local in Ojai with today's economy. Thank you for the amazing service and yummy breakfast
google avatar

Yelp
Casitas pork meatballs - served as a seasonal plate crafted from local pasture‑raised meat, kale, pecorino & breadcrumbs. Madonna pizza - wood‑fired oven sourdough crust topped w/ fontina cheese, local mushrooms & spring onion.
google avatar

Saul R.

Yelp
Came here the other day and was greeted by the friendly staff. Had the Margheritaville Pizza. Caesar Salad and Sourdough Bread everything tasted fresh and really good. Pizza tasted like a Neapolitan style. I'm not really a fan of and I'm not really a fan of having sourdough bread on my Pizza but it's just me but everything was good and fresh. I can see people that like this style of pizza will give it a good 10 out of 10. But it is a nice place to grab a bite to eat and have some drinks with a family or friends they do serve alcohol parking can be kind of tight during busy hours, but give them a try if you're in the area.

Yelp
One of the best meals I've had in a while! 100% make this part of your Ojai itinerary. We had: - Market Greens salad: Comes with the BEST date dressing - Tomatoes with whipped feta and basil: Delicious - Woodfired broccolini: Spicy, so much flavor - Peach and prosciutto pizza - Margheritaville + some amazing orange wine. Thank you to the kind folks at Pinyon!
google avatar

Li Ting L.

Yelp
Good wood fire pizza but a little burnt. My husband was not bothered by that tho. Overall it is good and I love the chewiness of the dough. Service is fine. We also had miso eggplant plate, it is a little pricy but good. I will visit here again for pizza.
google avatar

Bethany L.

Yelp
NOTE that they do charge a 20% service fee. Got the pinyon and porco rosso. The pinyon is a must have!! The broccolini has soft, sweet dates and is savory, salty, spicy, and sweet. Sold out of all bagels by 11am on sunday so come early if you want those! Staff are very friendly and helpful (: Interior design is adorably decorated with a frog theme, even frog ambiance for when you poop.

Yelp
Was in Ojai for a few hours and decided to get something quick so we went for pizza. This place is amazing with friendly and patient staff on first timers! We had the Margherita pizza along with freshly squeezed orange juice was wonderfully refreshing. Caesar salad was amazing. When it hit 4 pm, we also had another pizza that was available dinner time. Because we were getting ice cream after, we didn't get dessert which was the pistachio tiramisu - biggest food regret on this trip to Ojai. Place is quaint with a few tables inside and outside, but since it was drizzling, most peeps opted in. A sure stop for next time in Ojai. Oh, don't miss going to the bathroom - ribbit.

Yelp
Decided to drive through Ojai on our way back home from a trip to the central coast and stumbled upon Pinyon on Yelp. Love a good pizza so we knew we had to come try. Parking lot was a little tricky as it shared a lot with a few other stores and restaurants. We ended up parking on the street to find space. Inside was not very busy so quickly placed our order and sat ourselves. Good came out fairly quickly- halibut crudo and Porco Rossi pizza. Crudo was amazing, pizza was good but not the best I've ever had. I think next time I'd try the margarita pizza. Very cute place, and super cute bathroom with frog decor and rainforest sound machine- such a cool touch!
google avatar

Kelley C.

Yelp
We were looking for a quick bite to eat and our friend, Griffen, suggested Pinyon. Are we glad he did! We tried both sandos and the chocolate buckwheat cookie as well as the pretzel with cinnamon sugar. The order came out quickly and we all enjoyed our sandos. We saved half for later...the ciabatta bread is my recommendation. Lots of good flavors going on and they stack the turkey high. We sat outside and it was an all around lovely casual dining experience. So even if you just want to wash hands, the bathroom is a must.
google avatar

Dolores P.

Yelp
I would come back just for the customer service alone. It was a wild morning but when waking into Pinyon the Cashier told me a special they were having on pastries and told me "It's going to be a good day. " As if he knew the crazy morning I just had. Very cute shop with all the local love vibes. I really enjoyed the pesto pastry too. So good! I need to go try more food for sure!
google avatar

Keith C.

Yelp
Excellent restaurant! The bacon egg and cheese on onion bagel was delicious. Wood fired!? Are you kidding me. Do wish there was more bacon though. Dinner was also delicious! Pinyon pizza and the pistachio tiramisu was the perfect combination. Low-key set up but high key delicious!
google avatar

Britt J.

Yelp
Genuinely one of my favorite restaurants in the world - I look for excuses to come to Ojai so I can eat here. The pizzas are incredible, the broccolini genuinely changed my life and my family talks about it to this day (we had it over a year ago) and the pistachio tiramisu is mandatory!!! Chef Jeremy is a king! Be sure to check out the bathroom Best vibes
google avatar

Mecca B.

Yelp
Seating inside and outside. Parking is limited when it's busy. Street parking. Cool spot. Even cooler employees. Didn't know what to order so we had help from one of the employees. Pizza is so yummy! Thin and crispy.
google avatar

JG L.

Yelp
Loved the market greens salad and pinyon pizza. Capped off with a cider beer, so good! We took a pistachio tiramisu to go. Fantastic meal and easy.
google avatar

Samuel W.

Yelp
My wife went in to grab a bagel and was told that extra 20% "worker health benefit fee" is automatically added to the bill. When we reviewed the receipt, it says 20% gratuity/tips. I guess they tried to rephase their forced tipping with some other terms. I guess this has been happening for a while based on other's review. The bagel tasted fairly good - we got one with bacon, eggs and cheese. But we will not returned again and would not recommend this store. Note - we were at another Ojai restaurant which also charge a health fee (4%) for dined in service. I think that is reasonable in comparison, I would gladly pay that AND gratuity separately for their good service.
google avatar

Ray M.

Yelp
This place is phenomenal! The pizza was incredible, the staff was kind and I loved being able to sit at the counter close to the pizza making action. I honestly can't wait to go back! I stumbled upon this place when I was passing through town. It's a small place, with limited seating, and a few outdoor seats. This place may be small, but the food is full of flavor! I ordered the Porco Rosso and the flavors were absolutely wonderful. I think what really made this pizza so wonderful was the dough. I was talking with one of the pizza makers and he told that it's a 72 hour dough. It was flavorful, chewy, and the cook was great and had a wonderful char. This place is wonderful, and probably one of the best pizzas I've ever had. If I'm ever back in the area, I know exactly where I'll go for a great lunch or dinner.
google avatar

Sarah R.

Yelp
Food was decent maybe slightly over salted, yes pricey of course (this is Ojai.) They have a sign for the 20% gratuity to see when you order. For two pizzas and two drinks + 20% we paid about $68. Make sure to have a reservation I guess? Not sure where it's posted but when we tried to order they asked if we had one and the guy taking our order was a bit condescending about it. Also note to the restaurant, please ensure your complementary bottles of water are cleaned and sanitized, the water tasted off and the bottles smelled dingy. The young lady working tonight was exceptional, her service was impeccable!
google avatar

Katie D.

Yelp
This bread is to die for. Period. There's not much else that needs to be said about the food because all the goodness starts with the bread which they bake fresh every day. What also really impressed me was the staff! They were some of the kindest and most helpful people. I got the sense that that is just who they are. They weren't only considerate to the customers but to each other as well. I really appreciated the energy they bring to this place. Other things to know: They have a bottle shop as well if you're looking for a quick grab to accompany your pizza or if you need to bring a banguette and bottle to a friend's dinner party. Also they have some fun limited edition merch if you're a super fan. I recommend you bring your kids, your friends, and your dogs and enjoy this special frog loving place.
google avatar

Soyoun P.

Yelp
Bagel is chewy, crunch, but soft. Dank but not too heavy. So good don't miss out. Italian hoagie with veggie add on is unique and yummy well balanced. Service is amazing. Staffs are so kind

Amy W.

Yelp
Incredible food, great service, and frog decor everywhere. What more could you want? Honestly perfect.
google avatar

Sarah B.

Yelp
Personal size pizza for $30 is outrageous. Also the restaurant was empty but wouldn't seat us for reservations coming 30 minutes later. It's good pizza and they made it very quickly but too pricey.
google avatar

Victoria S.

Yelp
Made reservations & was seated right away. I saw them turning people away without reservations. They have limited seating inside & outside. You order at the register, there was a long line, I felt rushed so we didn't have a lot of time to look over the menu. We enjoyed the market greens, it was light and refreshing with pieces of fruit & pistachios. The broccolini was only ok, it was a little spicy with a mayo/mustard flavor. I did not like my margheritaville pizza, it did not look like the photos I've seen on Yelp. There was barely any mozzarella, you can only taste the tomato sauce & there was no basil. I asked about the basil & they said it was not in season. If I had known they didn't have basil I would have ordered something else. My husband enjoyed his pizza, he ordered the margheritaville pizza with pepperoni & sausage. The worst part about dinner was that I got FOOD POISONING from their desserts. I ordered the Black sesame chocolate budino, it was a pudding, I didn't taste chocolate only black sesame. The Pistachio Tiramisu was better but both desserts had a cream that didn't taste right to me. Afterwards I was sick for 3 hours. My husband ate everything I ate except the desserts so he felt fine.

Kendra H.

Yelp
Hi, I ordered takeout from your restaurant for the first time this evening. While the food was fresh and had good flavor, I was very disappointed to see a 20% gratuity automatically added to my bill. For two salads and two pizzas, the total came to $95. Pizza is difficult to stand out with in America given how many options there are, and I've had better elsewhere. The crust was also inconsistently cooked. I understand gratuity being added for dine-in service, but for takeout I feel this should be optional. Overall, the experience did not feel worth the price, and I would like to request a refund.
google avatar

casie k.

Yelp
Still a favorite! Although I don't always make it to the store front, I LOVE that there pastries and sandwiches can be available at nearby coffee shops in ventura & Santa Barbara county! I was shocked to find this out, but equally as excited when I found them in other places too!
google avatar

Adam G.

Yelp
These guys do it right. I see the owners at the weekly farmers market picking out ingredients. I see farmers dropping off fresh produce when I drive by. It makes a noticeable difference. The wood fired pizzas are big enough to share with 2 people but thin enough to eat by yourself depending on how hungry you are. The staff is friendly and helpful. Gratuity is automatically included so you don't have to worry whether you are tipping enough. I haven't tried the wines yet but they have an actual wine club and I bet they are way better than you would expect to find in a local pizza restaurant. If you live in town this is the kind of business you want to support. If you are visiting then it's the perfect place to experience what Ojai has to offer.
google avatar

Kara W.

Yelp
I was in Ojai for just a night and walked by this charming corner restaurant and saw an amazing pizza sitting on an outside table, my mouth started watering immediately but I had already eaten prior to it. I had to snap a photo (attached). Next time I'm in town I'm definitely going, and getting this same pizza!
google avatar

Mary H.

Yelp
We had breakfast here when in Ojai and were a bit disappointed! I got a breakfast bagel sandwich that was very oily and though I got a unique bagel (furikake), I couldn't taste anything beyond the sesame seeds of it. My partner got a yogurt bowl that had some sort of sweet apple butter in it that made it overly sweet. I'm sure what they're known for more are their pizzas, so I would try again if in the area for lunch or dinner.
google avatar

Shelby J.

Yelp
Stopped in this place for a quick bite before we started our day in Ojai. Most places stop serving breakfast at 11, and don't start serving lunch until 12, so we were looking for something quick and this was the perfect place. Service was fast, ambiance was very nice. Our food choice was a bagel with this wonderful cream cheese. Oh and please visit the bathroom before you leave. You will be pleasantly surprised.
google avatar

Sarah B.

Yelp
Headed to Pinyon today to try a sourdough wood-fired pizza and fresh salad. I ordered their margarita pizza + little gems salad. Seriously tasty. Flavorful and fresh eats. The sourdough crust makes the pizza really shine, along with fresh basil and maybe some of the best sauce I have had. Woodfired and nicely crisp. The best cheese to sauce ratio and nice little drizzle of olive oil to top it off. I will be dreaming of this pizza. Salad was fresh, tasty and the dressing was refreshing. Love that they use fresh and local ingredients. Staff were friendly, love the frog them decor (check out their bathroom!!). I also learned they are open from 9-9 so I plan to try them out for dinner soon. Def an Ojai gem!!
google avatar

Sergei G.

Yelp
I ordered 2 pizzas for to go, for $22 each, and they included 20% tips for to go order. They didn't serve me, because it's to go, they even didn't give me bag and napkins. This type of scam should't exist. About food, one of the pizzas was good, but second was over salted and burned. Overall experience bad.
google avatar

Will P.

Yelp
This place was delicious, we ordered the margherita pizza and were very happy with how it came out. Not greasy at all but delicious, I would recommend to anyone in Ojai. We will definitely be coming back if we ever drive through this town again!
google avatar

Ted D.

Yelp
This pizza is fkn DELICIOUS! Fast, fun, and financially friendly. Ellie is efficient beyond words. Thanks all. My fav spot in Ojai cuz of you all.
google avatar

Pamela H.

Yelp
Cozy store front pizza place. Morning they have bagels and hoagies, afternoon they have salads and pizzas. ALL of the bread is house made, as well as the yogurt in the morning. The pizzas are handmade to order in front of you! Order. The. Broccolini. AMAZING. Specialty wine and beer. Great service.

Morgan Z.

Yelp
Not a bang for my buck. As a local I was excited to try this place I feel so jipped. Classic Italian ? More like a Classic scam
google avatar

Rick S.

Yelp
I don't like this new concept of automatically including a 20% tip in the bill. Food was very good but it's the principle. Won't go back there.

Brianna C.

Yelp
The pizza tasted charred more than anything, so don't let the photos fool you. There's a ridiculous amount of hidden fees just to order a meal here and the people here are discriminatory. Don't recommend will never go back ever again

Sonny P.

Yelp
I understand inflation and rising COL has made some businesses increase their prices; however, $24 for a small bowl of lasagna that had the register include $6(20%) tip bringing the total to $30 wasn't worth it. The lasagna didn't taste anything special I could have cooked on my own from a Walmart frozen meal. The staff are great people and I wish them the best. The price for the food and its portion size is the problem. I have eaten at a restaurant where I saw the chef make lasagna from scratch and when I ate it, it was unique, good and worth the price. This one, not so much.
google avatar

Eilrama B.

Yelp
Terrible service and extremely rude wait staff. I would advise against going to that place at all costs

Logan B.

Yelp
Some rude staff, slow, and automatically added 20% tip for takeout order. Other places in Ojai are better
google avatar

Miki T.

Yelp
Awesome fire baked pizza and locally baked breads and best Caesar salad! Kid friendly. Service is warm and friendly.
google avatar

Hun Young L.

Yelp
When we entered around 3:30 pm they asked us if we had an appointment. The tables were all empty but we could not get a table. For this reason, we made To Go the Smoky Coat Pizza and he charged an involuntary 20% service fee for the To Go. The pizza taste was nothing unique. The bottom of the pizza was all burned and the arugula was not fresh. While waiting for 30 minutes for the Pizza To Go, I noticed that he was packing the loaf of bread into a translucent bag with his bare hand. In other words, he is supposed to use a disposable glove or paper to grab the bread. It seems not hygienic. By the way, the restroom door lock from the inside is not working.
google avatar

Nancy S.

Yelp
The best bagel and cream cheese, the best lox sandwich I have EVER had! We walked in unknowing we were about to experience such an outstanding yet simple breakfast! If you're in the area, try it out. Their bagels are baked fresh. Their lox cured in-house. Their cream cheese made in house. I wish they had a spot closer to home.
google avatar

Diana H.

Yelp
Came here for lunch last weekend when we were visiting town. Staff is friendly and they automatically add a 20% grat to your bill so no need to think about that. We got the Italian sandwich, farmers market salad, bean appetizer and buckwheat chocolate chip cookie. The bread for the sandwich was freshly made and just perfect. We added the works which is a must do. Highly recommend if you are looking for a casual Yummy lunch! Ohh and I loved the fresh made lemonade.

Yelp
Little brother and I road tripped up to Ojai and found this delicious gem of a spot. We got the Madonna mushroom and Porco Rosso pizza. Both read deliciously BUT we were not prepared for the flavor profile!! Beyond delicious!! The front counter hostess was super cool and engaging. We felt her attentiveness even when the entire place was filled up. The chefs were calming to watch as they created each bit of tasty masterpiece. I've have pizza and in my personal O Pinyon ( I'm sorry, I had to) this pizza is the best I have ever tasted!!

Yelp
Walking downtown Ojai for the first time and see this lovely Frog Logo. Instantly had to check it out - and I'm glad I did. They have legit Pretzel Bagels. Not just a Plain Bagel with Salt, nope full fledge Pretzel in shape of a Bagel. Was a wonderful little treat. Service was also excellent - was treated to the most interesting Bathroom experience... Lol totally wholesome in that trippy sort of Frog room... ribbit

Yelp
Great spot - quickly became favorite place to eat in Ventura. Low key tho, probably going to blow up soon

Popped in to grab a quick coffee and left loving this place! I'll definitely go there again next time I'm in Ojai. The coffee is really good and the pastries look delicious (didn't have one this time). The atmosphere is fun and the person who served me was friendly and full of personality. Great place!
