Pip's on La Brea is a soulful jazz bar and eatery, serving up Italian classics and smooth vibes, making it a beloved hangout spot for live music lovers.
"The food at Pip's is pretty good—think racks of lamb, creole fettuccine, and tiramisu—but you’re here for the incredible jazz performances. Since opening in 2010, this jazz club/restaurant has become a go-to casual hangout spot, a place where you’ll hear blues, R&B, or dinner showcases any night of the week. They have patio and indoor seating, and unlike other jazz clubs, Pips sticks to a strict weekly schedule. " - brant cox, sylvio martins
"Pips on Labrea is a whole vibe with excellent live blues, jazz, along with DJs. Derrick Pipkin opened this Mid-City spot in 2010, where there’s indoor and outdoor seating that requires a reservation, though walk-ins are welcome to order the very strong cocktails, salmon croquettes, pizzas, and a Creole fettuccine that’s a crowd pleaser. On Sundays, there’s a Black family reunion feel to the place." - Mona Holmes, Virali_Dave
"The food at Pip’s is pretty good—think racks of lamb, Creole fettuccine, and a veggie pizza that sits proudly on a tall metal stand—but let’s be real. You’re here for jazz. A Mid-City staple since 2010, Pip’s has become a total neighborhood hang—a fun, casual place where you can come on any random Tuesday and be serenaded by the sound of trumpets, bass players, and guitarists with deep, sultry voices. There are friends celebrating birthdays here, older gentlemen dressed in well-tailored suits, and first-timers who’ve just spilled in off the street. Everyone’s just here to have a good time, and reservations are required." - kat hong, nikko duren, brant cox

"This Black-owned neighborhood bar and jazz club is one of the few places in Los Angeles that allows some low-key cigar enjoyment on the outdoor patio. That makes it an ideal place to stop in for dinner, enjoy salmon croquettes or a churrasco steak, and then settle in with a whiskey cocktail. They don’t sell their own cigars, but you could easily pick up a stick at Black-owned cigar shop Debonair up the street on La Brea. Smokers are welcome to enjoy the stogies outside." - Matthew Kang
