"Today the local gelato shop announced a delivery program offering whole, bone-in legs of imported prosciutto di Parma for $300, which is billed as half the market value. The prosciutto, aged for 24 months, does not have to be refrigerated as long as it’s stored in a cool, dry place. Pitango’s ad says that the roughly 20-pound portions supply enough ham for 130 sandwich-sized portions." - Gabe Hiatt

The Gelato is really good. The space is fairly distressed and has limited seating. Bathrooms had no toilet paper. If you are a 20 something college kid this is probably right up your alley. My suggestion is they clean the place up a bit - it doesn't have to be distressed to have character.

I visited Pitango in mid day on Tuesday. I had the best time enjoying very solid cappuccino, galato and Breakfast croissant . Maybe unusual mix for 1.30 pm :) Cappuccino is just wonderful! Strong and creamy and just perfect size. The ceramic mug was just big enough for me to enjoy the sunny spring day and not to big to make me feel like I consumed buckets of caffeine. I had a small cup of Gelato with it. Now, consistency was just amazing. Super creamy and thick. My chocolate-hazelnut was just to die for although I didn't enjoy raspberry flavor as much. When first flavor was just packed with aroma, cream, nuts and chocolate, raspberry was pretty uneventful. Rather flat without any strong flavor I could hang my taste buds onto it. Very mild, indistinguishable when I was looking for tangy, rich raspberry extravaganza. I will say it was easy flavor what didn't hit the spot. Breakfast croissant on another hand hit the spot double time! First of all, size is out of this world. I had to open up the sandwich, so I could manage without getting my dress into dry cleaning mode. Croissant was super crispy and beautiful, inside flaky and doughy. Egg cooked to perfection with thick, deep yellow yolk spilling into croissant and thick bed of arugula. Amount of prosciutto was very satisfying if not overwhelming. I also think there was a pesto or some sauce in the sandwich, however it could be the yolk mixed up with goodness of all. Swrvice was very kind and relaxed as well. I couldn't be happier with the meal. Giving 4 stars only because raspberry Gelato fall short. Otherwise it would be solid 5 stars.

This is one of my favorite coffee shops in the city. Each time I arrive staff is incredibly friendly and kind. A shout out to Tony who I always see going above whether it’s wiping down tables, or delivering menu items. Oh, and he makes the best matcha tea lattes! Pitango is a great place to get some work done, catch up with a friend, or if you’re in the mood for gelato. This is definitely a neighborhood GEM! Playlist is also always on point. Highly recommend.

Google
First time at this location. Came to check out the Boozy Gelato which was excellent by the way! The sandwich was pretty good but on the expensive side. The latte was pretty good as well. Looking forward to going back to try the new flavors of boozy gelato while it's in season!

Google
One of my favorite spots in D.C.! One of the first things I noticed was the employees. I don’t know how the company does it, but every single worker is the most friendly, courteous individual you will find at establishments like these. An increasingly rare thing these days. The friendly service is matched by their incredible gelato. You can tell that it is made with real, fresh ingredients. The chocolate they use is unreal. Not overly sweet but with flavors that have you asking where have others been hiding it. The pistachio gelato is made with real pistachios, not some sort of pistachio flavoring. I always get a cup of their drip coffee to go with it. Really good. I stop by Pitango often and have never had a bad experience. I’m betting you won’t either.

The ice creams and the focaccias are good. The customer service provided by the person wearing the black tshirt was horrible. He served a cone without gloves placing his finger directly into it. When he was asked to wear them the answer was disrespectful.

Google
AMAZING gelato (way better than Dolcezza, in my opinion, and portions are larger). Pitango also serves very good coffee and pastries as well as sandwiches. Their ham and cheese croissants are heavenly. Nice relaxed atmosphere, makes it a good spot to work.

Google
If you like good focaccia, coffee, and charcuterie, don't pass on this place. It's fantastic coffee and really, really perfect focaccia. I am still thinking about the sandwich I had hours later. Cool attention to the prosciutto sourcing process as well. I often walk past places like this curiously, and keep walking -- newer places that cater upmarket aren't always accessible to everyone. But this is truly a friendly neighborhood cafe and I like coming here to treat myself to a sandwich every couple months. (Bonus, it's right next to the pharmacy and on a good bus line). Will keep it as a ritual whenever life allows.

Yelp
One of the most delicious pistachio gelato I've had! I do agree it's on the pricier side, but good enough to indulge. My husband got the tamarind flavor and it was a perfect combination of tartness and sweetness! Staff were nice and allowed us to sample one or two flavors. Will return!

Ria D.

Yelp
I'm always looking for a new dessert shop in town, and this has to be one of my favorites!! I got the hazelnut and espresso flavors. It was $7, which was a little pricey compared to other places but definitely worth it. The flavors were extremely rich! There's not that much seating inside, but people usually hang around outside, especially in the nice weather. The staff was very nice as well. I will definitely be back for some more gelato!

Luciana S.

Yelp
Amazing and spacious coffee shop with gelato! Would recommend sitting on the outside patio of the weather is nice. The staff were so nice and speedy. I'd highly recommend for a traditional macchiato.

Tammy H.

Yelp
Love gelato, but a little bummed Pitango did not hit the spot after seeing all of the highly rated reviews. Customer service was great and the man behind the counter was friendly and let us try a few samples before we made our final decisions. I got pistachio and hazelnut (my go-to gelato flavor) but while they did taste exactly like the nuts, they were just cloyingly sweet. I also noticed it when I was sampling the different creamy as well as sorbet flavors. The price completely shocked me because the smallest size was $7.50 and after tip, one small size was almost $10 which is wild. Besides the gelato, Pitango also sells good-looking sandwiches and other Italian treats. They even have a temperature controlled box for their Prosciutto di Parma from Italy, which caught my eye instantly. I didn't get to try any of their other food items this time, but I'd come back and try one of their homemade sandwiches.

Christy B.

Yelp
Ordered 2 sandwiches, a salmon avocado toast, a farro salad, bag of chips, and water to go for an outdoor picnic at $80+. Sandwiches weren't marked so we had to figure out what they were. It served its purpose.

Yelp
Racist? I waited in line to order and the guy (Asian maybe?) walked away right when it was my time to order and ignored me. One of the staff saw me waiting and asked me my order- one of the most expensive things on the menu. I walked to the table, put my number on the table along with a glass of water and my coffee. Walked to the counter and in front of the same guy that ignored me asked for the code for the bathroom. When I got out, he cleared everything off my table and threw it away. I complained, and he brought me my coffee, but my food order never came. I went back twice to get it. Seriously- is this how you treat people? Like brown middle aged women don't exist at all? Edited to add that there was a kind guy behind the bar who helped me and appeared sincerely apologetic for his colleague's behavior.

Yelp
I frequent Pitango, and it's a great cafe to get a drink or a snack and sit for a few hours. The star of the show is their focaccia, which is freshly baked in house. Their focaccia sandwiches are incredible, with my favorite being the Mortadella. The combination of the crunchy focaccia with creamy mozzarella is already great, but the acidity and sweetness brought in by the pepperoncini and roasted bell peppers just takes it to the next level. The sandwiches are a little on the expensive side, but are worth it in my opinion. However, their drinks are very expensive, especially if you want a milk substitute. Regardless, this is a great spot in the Kalorama/Adam's Morgan area!

Laura A.

Yelp
One of my favorite spots in the neighborhood. Food is delicious, coffee is great and I'm somehow very productive when I work from here.

John L.

Yelp
Only tried the affogato with dark chocolate gelato. It was good. Didn't get to experience the gelato by itself so somewhat hard to rate it. There are a lot of chairs available. Sat and talked with friends for a while after dinner. Customer service was good.

Flo S.

Yelp
I recall before the pandemic this place was naturally crowded and had a great following. So glad that they seem to be back to normal and allow for inside seating. I really enjoy the vibe in here. I can't even tell you the flavors that I've tried in terms of the gelato, but what I appreciate is how fresh each one is and I'm never disappointed. The staff is very friendly, the place is really clean and I think the light that spills into this place just makes it so inviting. I have sat inside, worked on my computer and have just done some people watching. I remember trying their food at one point and it was also very good and just light and healthy. I would definitely recommend this as a place to grab a cup of coffee, enjoy refreshing dessert and consider bringing your laptop and just plotting yourself down in one of the tables inside. You won't be disappointed:)

Daniel R.

Yelp
Delicious gelato, friendly service, a beautiful space to work... love it here! Definitely the perfect place for a gelato fix. It's pricey but the size is perfect to fulfill a craving. Love it!

Jill P.

Yelp
The pistachio gelato affogato was a dream!! SO good! The gelato was perfect and the creaminess of the gelato mixed with espresso was a great balance. the servers were quick and answered all my questions very politely. I loved the bar seating near the gelato and coffee serving area! The place is small and cozy, only possible for gelato places where you eat it quick and leave or take it to go. I was a big fan!

Yelp
What a nice little neighborhood spot. Great coffee, a fantastic chai, and some to-die-for focaccia sandwiches. Service is always prompt, even with a line. If you're looking for a place to sit and work at a quaint coffee shop, Pitango is a great option. Most recently, I tried their Milano and Mortadella sandwiches. Both were fantastic- the focaccia is the star of the show, complimented by simple, high quality ingredients, and not too greasy like a lot of other focaccias. The only downside to this place is the price. For two sandwiches and two chai lattes, the total came to around $51. Would recommend- just not an every-day spot.

Ijeoma A.

Yelp
I tried the pistachio and the cardamom flavors. Both were delicious and the service was great!

Luis Enrique F.

Yelp
Good pastries! Very nice staff. Convenient location. The menu is good and the food is always fresh.

Yelp
This Ice cream took me back to Naples will definitely be back again! Amazing so very very addictive and delightful

Gabriela W.

Yelp
CORTADO, baby. That's where it's at. I ordered it. And they delivered. Strong espresso, almond milk, add honey. Oh ya, come to mama. Love the location, wooden tables, decor, and friendly service. Imma be back.

Nicole W.

Yelp
This place definitely made me want to tango, its a pity there was no dance floor! If I'm honest spending nearly $8 on a small scoop of ice cream is something I would normally never do, but this place almost made it worth it. I got the black tea gelato, which was so incredibly flavorful I was surprised! Staff was very nice and the shop was cute, but not many places to sit. Overall was very pleased, but it was more of a one time thing. I'd recommend if you're just visiting or a gelato aficionado, but otherwise this may be a pass.

Nikki N.

Yelp
Great gelato, good service, will continuously go back. I switch between straight gelato and an affogato

Parisa A.

Yelp
I LOVE this place!!! I always come here if I'm craving anything sweet and cold. They have a wide range of flavors that are pretty unique such as black tea, kiwi, cardamom. It's worth trying as it's consistency is quite different from ice cream. It's more creamy and delicious with every bite!

Maggie A.

Yelp
Sorry, not a fan. The consistency of the gelato is like a big glob of snot. I asked for my halva-pistachio in a cone and got it in a cup. My husband asked for his bacio (hazelnut and chocolate, which was way more hazelnut than chocolate) in a sugar cone and got it in a cake cone. Hard pass. Sorry.

Elizabeth R.

Yelp
I had a lovely experience here! I had passed Pitango on the bus and noticed how cute it was. I'm working remotely in Adams Morgan, so returned a few days later with my laptop to work and grab a snack. I ordered a chocolate croissant and iced latte and found a seat outside. The outdoor patio is adorable and I love the way it is blocked off with a little hedge for privacy. The wifi was super speedy and it was quiet enough to take a call. My chocolate croissant was very yummy, perfectly flakey, and the iced latte was also great and brought to me in a glass. It definitely was pricey (chocolate croissant was $6!! I was a bit shocked) but for the ambiance, nice staff, and good wifi, I am okay paying an upcharge. Highly recommend this place for working in the morning, catching up with a friend, or gelato after dinner.

Kajol K.

Yelp
I personally recommend the Hibiscus Blossom sorbet If you like a more fruity flavor. Overall gelatos and sorbets were good but unreasonably pricey. $7.50 for a regular size (which is a small bowl) is too much.

Kaitlin T.

Yelp
This is a great spot for an after-dinner treat! I love all things ice cream, so when I saw this gelato place, I knew I had to try. There were so many flavor options, but I decided to get the black tea flavor which was really tasty and flavorful. In addition, there was both indoor and outdoor seating that was really cozy and could definitely fit a lot of people. The only downside to this place is that it's a bit pricey -- I paid $8 for one scoop. Though, if you're in for a sweet treat and want to try unique flavors, I would say to give this place a try!

Rick S.

Yelp
This is a bit of a trek for me, but I have been twice and had okay experiences (both for drinks and sweets) - I can't speak to their gelato or savory options. Pitango has a typical selection of about 8 (Rishi) teas. On my recent visit, the Jasmine was out and the server gave me another green one (while informing me I could swap it if I didn't like it). The pastries on display didn't look particularly appetizing, but the $9 mascarpone-jam croissant is good as a desserty-breakfast option (even if the croissant is not puffy). The prices are a bit high for what you get, and I especially didn't like that none of the chairs (except at the bar) provide back support.

Erica E.

Yelp
I went to Italy 10 years ago and have been searching for authentic gelato since. This is the first place that gave me that! Texture was perfect and finally not just like ice cream like all the others. I am a happy gal!! Super cute place with kind people behind the counter.

Suzie Z.

Yelp
Got black tea flavor and chai flavors - 2 relatively generous scoops for a regular cup for dessert on a Friday night and they were absolutely delicious!

Kaylee C.

Yelp
We were able to sample the gelato before buying and so worth it. I was wobbling on my way back to the car.

Joshua K.

Yelp
Great neighborhood cafe! I go here fairly often and although a bit expensive, I enjoy the food and service. I especially recommend the Italian sipping chocolate and the almond croissant.

Jose P.

Yelp
I consider this to be the best ice cream in DC. I normally do not eat ice cream given that I am lactose intolerant and I avoid sugar almost completely. Therefore if I am going to cheat and deal with the effect of lactose on my body, it needs to be absolutely worth it. Also I am very gluten intolerant and although there is absolutely no reason for gluten to exist in ice cream, there are vendors that put it in there for some weird reason that I won't go into here. Bottom line, pitango makes their ice cream on location, use the pure ingredients (no cheating) and deliver fresh awesomeness. Literally nothing they could do to make it better. They have expanded in terms of providing coffee, wine, and some light food. I have not tried any of that, but if they take the same approach as with their ice cream it should all be awesome.

Jerry X.

Yelp
I was originally recommended this place by a friend who brought a pint of their pistachio gelato for a house party -- the gelato was one of the most decadent and smooth gelatos I had ever had. The next day, I made my way to the store itself to get my own pint! In terms of gelato flavors, Pitango just does gelato really well. I have mostly stuck to the pistachio or chocolate hazelnut and have never been disappointed. I only knocked one star off because every time I came here, which admittedly is during the later hours of the evening, the staff have been somewhat standoff-ish. Regardless, the gelato is still great and worth a trip out here!

Anya B.

Yelp
Good, not great. Stopped by here after dinner in the neighborhood for something sweet. I wish they had more fruit options in their flavors, and the baked goods were super dry. They didn't tell me the smallest came with two flavors, so I just got the mango. It is a large portion size! And it didn't taste bad, just was t my favorite.

Semaj B.

Yelp
The sandwich was delicious , service was fine. But i see this in so many shops and I wanted to bring it to everyones attention, could I have told the manager or cashier ? Sure but we all know things don't always get done or remembered so I wanted to put it here. It may not be widely known but the phrase "Dirty Chai" is offensive. I was unaware of this previously until my Asian ( Indian) co worker bought it to my attention because throwing the word dirty into the name is offensive when in reality all that is being done is adding a shot / a shot of espresso and chai is a cultural food/ cultural item so by adding the word dirty instead of saying add shot or with a shot of espresso and calling someone culture dirty. for example when we add cheddar cheese , sour cream, chives and bacon to a potato we dont call it a dirty baked potato we call it loaded or when we add marshallows and spices and pecans to sweet potatoes we dont call it dirty sweet potatoes we call it a sweet potato casserole. All in all its important to do better now that I know better and I hope pitango will join in , in the ongoing process of knowing better then doing better and ultimately listening and learning. and ultimately i will be able to change this review at a later date.

Yelp
This place is a bit of a hike for me, but in one of the cutest areas of DC. I LOVED the aesthetic of the business from the moment I walked in. It has plenty of space to sit and enjoy your gelato or coffee, and the atmosphere is calming and welcoming. Me and my coworkers came here for a snack after dinner and were greeted by friendly staff as soon as we approached the counter. They had all of the flavors on the wall and indicators of which flavors were gluten free or allergen free, which was helpful for my coworker who can't have gluten. There are so many amazing flavors and the staff let us try as many as we wanted before making our choice. I went with hazelnut and coconut and it was one of the most perfect pairings I've ever tasted. The gelato flavors are smooth and creamy, so you feel like you're eating ice cream. The sorbet flavors were also delicious and I highly recommend those, too. Even after having this on a cold night, it hit the spot. I'd love to come back here and work for a day out of the coffee shop. Me and my coworkers had a wonderful time together catching up here. Don't sleep on this place!

Dylan P.

Yelp
Pitango is in a super accessible location right there in AdMo. I went on a Saturday morning and it was extremely easy to find a seat. I'm not sure about parking but it's only about a 16 min walk from the Woodley Park metro. We had a flat white and a latte. Their espresso was extremely fresh, smooth, and well-balanced. The drinks came out in a timely manner as well. Quality of coffee is well above average. We didn't try any gelato or food but will do next time for sure. I'd feel comfortable giving 5 stars after trying the food! There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The ambiance inside is nice with plenty of natural light. However, I can't speak to the availability of power outlets if you're looking to get some work done. Will be back for sure when I'm in the area!

Ruby R.

Yelp
Nice ambiance, string coffee and tasty Italian sandwiches ! They customer service is the best and the place is always neat and clean.

Abigail R.

Yelp
The latte with oat milk was pretty solid. Loved the ambiance and the service. My order was taken with care . I love the almond chewy cookie! Would recommend if you are looking for a pillowy sweet treat.

Anna Lynne B.

Yelp
this gelato is so unique and tastes delicious. I feel like I've been transported to Europe. And the café has good vibes with great coffee and tea options

Helen B.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious and authentic gelato! Great texture and the flavors. Our family favorites were: hazelnut and pistachio gelatos, and mango and pineapple sherbets. It was very pleasing to know the gelato we ate was made from the organic ingredients. Definitely recommend!

Alexsandre M.

Yelp
TLDR; Slow and unorganized. Pretty good coffee. Ordered two drinks and three items. They ran out of what we had ordered so a staff member found us and asked if it was okay they modified our dish. We agreed. Then waited and waited. They finally called my name, only to have the same conversation with me about modifying our meal. A while later one dish was brought to us, their avocado toast, which was mediocre. Then we resumed waiting. I finally went inside to ask about the rest of our food, and due to a mix up hadn't begun making it. We waited a while longer before finally getting our food -- which was pretty good. The coffee came out fast and was solid, but nothing amazing. The staff were kind, but the place would benefit from some better management.

Dan M.

Yelp
This place has pros and cons. It is one of the larger coffee shops around, and they have lots of tables and outlets, and a small patio space. The options are plentiful, geltao, espresso, coffee, pastries, etc. One main issue is they refuse to make espresso drinks on Sunday afternoons - I have visited on three of the past five or six Sundays, all after 4, and was told each time they couldn't make espresso drinks. That is really the most important thing on the menu and main reason half the people are visiting, so how can you consistently make that part of your business model? Very annoying. They have been open way too long for it to be a stocking issue. I have seen staff joking about the fact that they tell people they are "out" of espresso, so not sure what the deal is. I have stopped in lots of Fridays and Saturdays and this has never been an issue. It's a shame because their espresso is pretty delicious, on its own or in a bigger drink. If you come for gelato, I say go with bacio, which is a chocolatey, hazelnut delight. Real creamy and delicious.

Elizabeth S.

Yelp
Cute local place, would definitely bring friends or parents here when they're in town! This is a cute place, with an indoor/outdoor seating. I like how they describe all the gelato flavors on the wall next to the cases. I got the Concord grape and it was delicious. Not sour, not overly sweet. I wasn't hungry but the sweet and savory pastries looked delicious. Kinda far from Metro, closest is Woodley Park I believe, about a 20 min walk.

Joshua W.

Yelp
After a delicious dinner, what do you need? Prosciutto. Pitango, a cafe known for its Gelato and Sorbets, regularly plays host to a Prosciutto tasting. As you may know, prosciutto is an ancient word meaning "food of the gods." Despite what THEY would have you believe, the gods did not dine on golden apples, ambrosia, and mead -- okay, the mead is probably right, but, their food was prosciutto. When ancient Klingon warriors slew the gods, they took prosciutto and brought it to us. And the prosciutto offered at the tasting is among the best -- be sure to check out Pitango's facebook page for their next events! My only complaint, they don't seem to put enough out at any given time, but... I'm not really sure there is a level of prosciutto that could ever qualify as "enough." If you're unfortunate enough to be there at a time when there's not prosciutto, don't despair! Pitango offers an incredible selection of gelatos and sorberts: indeed, their selection was almost overwhelming. I had a mango and passionfruit sorbet -- both of which were incredibly good. My fiancee, who is not as boring as her selection would imply, had chocolate and pistachio, while our friends tried several other flavours. We couldn't help passing around spoons, and everything was utterly delicious. Seating is a little limited, though there's outside seating as well, but that depends on when you go.

Eli S.

Yelp
Hands down the best cafe option in the AdMo neighborhood (and broader DC). They take their coffee seriously and partner with a local roaster to deliver the best tasting drinks. They use nothing but organic, local ingredients in their sandwiches, salads, and pastries and it shows. You can really taste the difference. Their gelato is the best in the whole city. They also offer a great atmosphere if you're looking to do work somewhere or catch up with friends. You can also get great tasting alcoholic beverages.

Andrea W.

Yelp
Came here on a weekday late afternoon, grabbed a matcha latte from here with skim milk. Waited just a moment before the drink came out, but the matcha flavor wasn't very strong and it was too sweet. Drink also wasn't very hot. For a cup that was $5.50, it was expensive and quality just wasn't there. Both indoor counter seating and outdoor tables available. Vibe inside was nice though, all the tables were full when we arrived at 5PM on a Sunday but mostly empty when we left around 7PM.

Lina T.

Yelp
I came here on a Saturday night after having dinner nearby in Adams Morgan. It was 9pm and this place was pretty packed, luckily there is seating available outside as well. I ordered the last of the Matcha Green Tea gelato for the night... they do NOT skimp on their scoops. My ice cream cone was overflowing with the gelato. This is one of the best gelato spots I have been to, I love that they have such a huge menu of flavors to cater to everyone's gelato needs :) The gelato is delicious and their staff are super friendly, I would definitely come back here next time I am in the area... highly recommend Pitango Gelato & Cafe :)

Sonali P.

Yelp
quality spot for gelato. They have so many unique flavors to choose from, including some sorbets. We tried cardamom, pistachio, and hazelnut - all incredible but the hazelnut was definitely my favorite. The gelato was so creamy and not overwhelmingly sweet. there are a few tables outside which are nice for warmer days. The inside is huge and looked like there were plenty of outlets making it good place for work/studying in a non-pandemic world.

Helia L.

Yelp
Dare I say the best focaccia in dc. The tomato flavor with all different spices slaps your tongue like no other. They also have their own prosciutto drying contraption. I'd say try the focaccia by itself if you can. Sorbets are better than their other creamy gelato.

Liza K.

Yelp
I LOVE gelato and this spot has quality gelato. It's clear they use real fruit in their sorbets and ice cream and the variety of flavors is great! Gelato My summer favorites have been the rhubarb sorbet and the passion fruit. I loved the creaminess is the rhubarb that I ended up buying a pint for home. It was $10 for a pint to go, which is comparable with DC ice cream spot prices. Gelato is always expensive, but it's worth supporting a local business and the perfect summer treat in the 100 degree humidity we've been having. Events Pre-pandemic they hosted fun events, which I am KICKING myself for not having taken advantage of enough. But I'll definitely be back for more paint nights and for boardgames. Customer Service Friendly customer service. They answered all my questions and made recommendations. Pandemic Safety Measures I felt totally safe going in. They require masks for customers and staff. They also have touchless or credit card payments. Everything looked very clean and sanitized. Final Verdict Pitango has amazing variety in flavors and quality ingredients where you feel like you are eating a frozen and creamier version of whatever fruit you selected for your sorbet. Highly recommend this spot!
