Worst food EVER! Pizza was barely edible, the wings overcooked and dry, the "garlic fries" were regular French fries with a half a teaspoon of minced garlic on top 🤣 and we ordered 2 pieces of chocolate cake and got 2 pcs of cheesecake lmao! Overall we paid $88 total for 1 large meat lovers; 12 pcs Hot wings; 1 order of garlic fries and 2 pcs of cake. Don't order out that's a guaranteed ripoff 🤣🤣

The best bang for your buck in SF. This might be the last affordable place in SF to get a meal. The pizza is really good and the staff is always nice. I like to sit on their outdoor patio with a beer and a pizza and relax with the nice view of the big trees in the Presidio.

Pizzeria Avellino is a decent hole-in-the-wall pizza place that is a great place to stop for a slice near the Palace of Fine Arts. Ended up getting our slices in around five minutes; service is a bit brisk and preferred cash, but he got us our pizza in five minutes. Portions are huge (should've gone with one!) and it's around $6 a slice - practically unheard of in this day and age.

As much as I'd like to like Avellino, it's just not great. The slices always seem to be sitting there a while, they are thick slices which isn't my personal preference and there's not a lot going on in the space. That said, the staff are all friendly and it's certainly an okay spot to satisfy a slice craving.

Very authentic and the ingredients were freshly chopped and placed on the pizza when ordered. Enjoyed this spot, right around the corner from the Walt Disney Family Museum. Outdoor dining as well. We paid about $35 for a medium Lombard and 2 drinks.

Nice if you like doughy 🍕 🍕 🍕. The meat is my favorite. Went on a nice warm day and enjoyed a beautiful slice on the patio for $5.50. Easy parking too

Today was my first time trying Avellino Pizzeria but it’ won’t be my last. Pizzeria Avellino uses only the freshest ingredients around, ensuring that every dish is of the highest possible quality. Conveniently located five (5) minutes away from the Palace of Fine Arts, this pizzeria is a great place to stop in for a bite if you’re exploring the city of San Francisco. Avellino has several speciality pizzas, such as, The Lombard Pizza, Fuggedaboutit Pizza, and Veggie Jackson Pizza are all prepared quickly and made fresh to order. Due to COVID, there is no dine-in options, but, they have an outside patio with four (4) tables that customers can sit and enjoy their food at. I ordered the large classic pepperoni pizza, and it was good. It was perfectly priced ($21.00) and had eight (8) large slices, which is perfect if you’re sharing. The only issue I had was that the pizza was a bit greasy, but, what pizza isn’t. This is definitely a pizzeria worth checking out.

Needed to order catering for a work event and found this pizza spot. It was easy to schedule the delivery a week in advance, the delivery showed up on time, and the food was amazing / everyone loved it. I will be ordering from here again next time there is an opportunity at a work event. Did not remember to take photos but ordered the Caesar salad, chopped salad, cheese pizza, roaster coaster pizza, Mediterranean pizza, and the veggie Jackson pizza. Only a few slices of veggie Jackson left over at the end so I would consider the food and work event a success.

RIP to a real one man. This used to be my all time favorite pizza. I could have it any time, any day, doesn't matter if it was hot, cold, rainy, whatever, I could eat this pizza every single day. You know why? because no matter the time of day, it always tasted the exact same. consistent. Seems like after the pandemic its very hit or miss. When its good its just alright and when its bad, its inedible bad. Doesnt even come close to how good it used to be. the service isn't great but that's expected, not the worst slice in SF but close. Personally, I'd rather go next door and grab one of the greatest creations to ever come out of this city.

Not much in terms of cheap quick food in the Presidio adjacent area, so that's the big selling point. Probably best not to stray too far from the pizza menu, since the other items are clearly not the specialty. A slice will do the trick if you're hungry. Cheese Slice: It was very cheesy, which was the biggest plus. Felt skimpy on the sauce though and the a bit too bready. Mozzarella Sticks: A bit of let down. Wasn't the typical Italian breadcrumb coating you get on most mozzarella sticks, even ones from the grocery store freezer section. Instead it was a thick flat unseasoned batter that felt really greasy after deep drying. The gooey cheese inside was fine. The dipping sauce tasted a bit too sweet.

If you happen to want to grab a pizza slice away from the crowds then this little place is it. Nestled between residences and the beautiful presidio, a stones throw away from the George Lucas studios, it's the perfect quick eatery. The outdoor seating area is perfect for a few extra people and they offer subs, pizzas and salads. Granted it's not your perfect pizza slice but you get a decent albeit thick crust and plentiful toppings

I was rushing across town as I bought tickets to a last minute event at the Palace of Fine Arts and was worried I would pass out of hunger. As the 43 Masonic bus stopped at the Lombard Gate and I exited, wow! God has answered my prayers! A pizza place! I will be fed and be happy after all! Nice not busy at 7pm. Had a couple waiting for their whole pizzas and later tourist couple came in to order 4 slices of pizza. Nice clean, quiet, well lighted place. One worker working by himself and later another employee came in. Thanks this is a nice neighborhood place next door to a sandwich shop. Easy 7 minute walk straight down to the Palace of Fine Arts. I got a slice of $6 combo pizza and I enjoyed it.

Stopped by here after visiting the Palace of Fine Arts. They have about 5 different pizzas sold by the slice they range from $4.99-$5.99 each. I tried the combo and it only took a few minutes of reheating. There was the standard parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning and red chili flakes on the table. The pizza had a nice crispy bottom with a fair amount of cheese and toppings.

Need pizza by the slice or a big pizza pie around the Marina Cow Hollow area? This is your spot! We love this place because of how simple they are! They have various pizza options by the slice and our kids very much enjoy coming here! They have lots of seating inside and outside. On a cold rainy day, the indoor seating was ideal. Kids ordered a slice of Hawaiian pizza and a slice of cheese. Of course they have lot of other traditional options (pep, veggie, mushroom and cheese and more). There additional menu includes wings, salads, and more! They have a huge TV screen inside (usually playing sports of some kind). It does take a few mins to warm up the pizza in their oven- however I did see people walk in, grab pizza and eat without warming it up! Whatever you wish! At $4.99 a slice of pizza- I believe its worth it. They take cards and cash!

Best chicken wings in S.F. We make the pilgrimage on a regular basis. When taking out, sauce is on the side so the wings stay crispy until sauced. The food is prepared to order and quite quick. Love the efficiency of the staff - they answer the phone quickly and have everything ready on time. Also have used them to feed parties of 60 kids to great success

Honestly such good pizza after walking around the park! Visiting SF and decided to take a leap with this place, and we were more than happy with the decision. For the price, good sized pizza slices and each one really tasty! Not exactly New York style thin crust, but it was thin enough with a good crunch. Kind workers, good indoor and outdoor seating, and they had the Olympics on! Definitely would recommend for a tasty quick bite!

We were visiting from out of town for my cousins wedding. Got back to the hotel feeling hungry. It was late we just wanted something quick. They were just a few doors up from our hotel. They were closing soon. We each got one slice of pizza. They warmed them up in the oven..larger slices. They were still warm when we got back to our room. It was a cold December evening.

Alright... Pizza Review Time!! We are here in San Francisco off of Lombard Street at Pizzeria Avellino. One bite everyone knows the rules... Not very good at all. Seriously tasted like I was eating a frozen pizza that they warmed up in the oven. Didn't even finish it honestly

The food was delicious. We had meatball sandwiches for lunch and back the next night for pizza, hot wings and mozzarella sticks and it was fantastic. The people who work there were super nice too! I highly recommend.

A good descent slice with a crispy crust . Good flavor and easy on wallet. Good outside seating and good service. A good place for a quick slice.

Well darn. Just slightly disappointed, not much flavor to the pizza. It needs more flavor in the crust and sauce otherwise the potential is absolutely there. It has very little grease which is fantastic!! Absolutely love that!! It really gives you a New York style feel. Just lacks flavor. Maybe it's just the day we came in. The mozzarella sticks are just average and the dipping sauce was lacking flavor. His customer service was friendly he politely told us he was closing in 35 mins and said we could stay to eat but we took it to go anyways. He was very polite in telling us his ATM credit card scanner was down before we even ordered, we had cash so it wasn't a problem. Overall when we come back to the city we will try this place again. It's a cute spot right by the presidio.

No frills but good quality pizza. Service was pronto and he understood our strange requests. We have a family member undergoing some serious health conditions so we have to be particular about how and what we order. No questions asked, just said ok and he did it. Offers everything you need - plates, cheese, peppers, and oregano. Parking is okay in this area and the prices were decent.

The crust is amazing. So crispy and delicious ! First time here and I recommend ! My son is picky and he loved it. A slice is very filling. It was $11.43 and worth every cent. 9/10 for sure. The sauce is perfect and not over powering at all.

Great pizza, speedy service for a great price. The toppings on our Lombard pizza was fresh and delicious. The dough was just perfectly cooked. We will be coming back.

this pizza spot is a great location given its right next to the presidio! i got takeout but the outdoor seating seems good for the weekend when the weather is nice sweet heat house (entire pizza): basically a hawaiian pizza with a little kick from the jalapeños. the medium portion is pretty big, i'd say it's enough for 4 people buffalo wings: i usually don't like buffalo wings but i really enjoyed these because the buffalo sauce and ranch both came on the side. now i won't have them any other way both the pizza and wings were fresh and hot (even after the short walk home)

Just your typical small Pizzeria. Service is fast, the pizza is nothing special. However, it is located about 3 mins from The Palace of Fine Arts, with an absolutely stunning view of the bridge and the city. Not much you can complain about if you need a quick bite.

Great to-go pizza. Convenient as a Presidio resident to run in and grab and go. Never eaten in restaurant, but always have a great pizza.

The cheese pizza slice I tried was just ok and I wouldn't go out of my way for it. I lived in NYC and heard this place has comparable pizza. It doesn't. The crust tastes like white bread and is sort of sweet tasting (not in a good way), I couldn't taste any flavor in the sauce, and the pizza cracked/broke when I tried to fold it in half the way you eat a big NY slice. It's decent and certainly not bad, but not something I would mark as a recommendation. SF has amazing pizza, but not NY style. The closest I've found is at the Haight St location of Slice House (didn't enjoy the North Beach location) and pre-pandemic at Arinell in the Mission which closed. Giorgio's on Clement used to make a great NY style, but the last few times it didn't taste like it used to. I've decided to embrace and enjoy the great pizza we have in SF rather than hope to find NYC style (but every once in a while you get a craving).

I walked in for a slice of pizza, ordered the pepperoni slice and the total came to $5.60 which seems a little steep for what it is. The crust on the bottom was crispy but doughy, the cheese was abundant but the sauce is the mood killer.. it took me back to middle/high school cafeteria pizza. It doesn't tastes like tomatoes, rather it's just a sour red sauce. Inside the restaurant there were a bunch of flies, and a couple walked in the place and immediately turned around with a look of disgust. If you're going to be charging that much for a slice, at least make it worth it.

Wish they Delivered! But Pizza by the Slice is always consistent and delicious. On a nice day it's nice to sit outside and enjoy a slice or two!

wow - I was SUPER impressed with this pizza. sooooo crispy - great crust. the closest to NY pizza I've come across in SF.... got the combo + jalepeno/sausage and both were amazing. friendly service. will def be back!!

Walked into this little shop & first impressions, it looked okay. It was the closest place to eat outside of the Presidio gates. There were people sitting outside and some seated inside--promising. At the counter, there were about 4 pies ready, just pick your slice, it gets reheated and delivered to your table. We chose 3 slices and a soda--Hawaiian, pepperoni & veggie with some kind of meat. It a NY style thin crust, with a hint of cardboard. I like a thin crust pizza but this did not check the box for me and was a bot disappointing. All three slices looked better than it tasted. I had high hopes, but the visual did not match with the expectation of a good slice. The slices were all unmemorable. Our 3 slices plus a can of soda cost $18; that would make each slice just over $5...a little pricey in my opinion.

You wanna pizza? Come to Pizzeria Avellino, and you got a pizza. Just remember, you get what you pay for. Personally, I prefer thin crust. In this case, I got it. Which means, not much dough, which makes room for more meat. I got a pepperoni & bacon pizza, big enough for the three of us. It wasn't loaded with meat, but it did have a good amount of meat on there, and boy did we enjoy it. I tried Tapatio on one of my slices, and it actually tastes better without the hot sauce. The bottom was a little burned, but not that bad. It didn't lose its taste as it got cooler. It wasn't one of my better pizzas. But again, you get what you pay for, and it ended up being worth the $30ish I paid. If you don't care that it's not a high-quality pie, then Avellino will work well. Although there are a lot of choices in toppings, there are not a lot of choices in sizes. Only 15" and 18". I ordered the 18", and it should have been 10 slices, but it was 8. Avellino majors in pizza by the slice, $4 at a time, which means that the 15" and 18" are better deals. I don't know how it would taste after being refrigerated or frozen, we took 1-1/2 slices home with us but the girl finished them all on the way home. Bonus: outdoor seating. Highway 101 is far enough away that you don't hear its traffic. It's next to the Presidio, so turn west for a green view. We parked only 1/2 block away, very good for San Francisco. Pizzeria Avellino is a bare-bones pizza joint that will satisfy both your taste buds and bank account. That is, unless you prefer a softer, thicker crust.

After taking my credit card and worked the register, he didn't wash his hands and proceeded with touching the pizza slices made. After handling food he did wash his hands once before touching another customer's credit card, but dried them using a towel just laying around, then proceeded to use that same towel to wipe down the work tables and plates. It's like he never washed them at all. So I just ate the toppings cuz I saw how he touched my slice. It was the worst pizza I have ever eaten. Toppings taste bland and the crust was soggy. Absolutely disgusting.

Edit: It has been a couple of years, so I need to update my review. As others have stated, the pizza has changed. It is not longer the NY slice style. The dough is now thicker and more chewy. The sauce has less flavor. It's also less oily. Cheese does not seem to be top quality. Will do in a pinch, but no longer worth seeking out.

Ordered a slice of pepperoni and thought it almost tasted like pizza from 7 eleven. I came here after reading a few reviews saying it's the best NY style pizza in SF, and it had 4.5 stars on Google. Definitely not good, even compared to other by-the-slice spots. Escape from New York, Tony's Slice House, and Golden Boy are all way better places to get a slice.

It's fairly decent pizza! I used to live down the block from this place so would frequent 2-3 times a month in order to quickly grab something to eat usually before heading out to drinks or just being too lazy to cook myself. I would only order cheese or pepperoni, I'm not a fan their custom slices just doesn't feel cohesive to me to add on sausage or peppers as an after thought once the pizza is already cooked. But to each their own!

"New Owner? Who Dis??" Growing up in the Suburbs, I'm well versed in pizza. You know, Pizza Hut, Little Caesar's, Round Table. All that good stuff. Hey, it may not be the best, but at least it's always consistent. This place on the other hand, you never know what you're going to get. Sometimes you'll get a super friendly dude serving up a fresh slice, other times you'll wonder why you came here in the first place. With the new owners they're trying to implement some innovations like pizza sitting on the front counter. Speeds things up a bit if you want a quick slice, but you can also order a custom slice if you want a fresh one. There are also wings and salads sold here. But my favorite thing is the Sicilian style pizza. However that's a bit inconsistent too. Sometimes it's an inch high sometimes maybe triple that (???). The prices are a bit on the high side approaching about $30 for a whole pizza. Definitely not a 5-5-5 kind of place, but there really aren't too many other pizza options in the immediate area. Overall if you want pizza it's either this Delarosa....and they know it! Alas my weakness is pizza so I'll be back again and again. Protip: Bring cash. Otherwise you'll pay a ~4% additional charge

I never felt so dirty eating pizza. I order 4 slices for me and my kids. When our food was served, the server stacked two pizzas on each other in both hands with the bottom of the top plate smashing the bottom pizza because he didn't want to make more than one trip. The pizzas were too big for the plates so when he put the plate on the table the tip of some of the pizzas touched the table, which was not the cleanest (some crumbs and grease marks). There were so many flies hovering around in the eating area. The only reason why we ate the food was because we were so hungry after riding ours bike. I gave them two stars because it actually tasted like pizza and nobody got sick afterwards.

3.5 STARS For dinner, the roommate wanted pizza. I gave him a couple options and he picked Pizzeria Avellino. We place a delivery order on the way home via DoorDash on Monday, February 26th at 5:36pm. Our order arrived at 6:40pm. We live in Outer Richmond. *The Lombard Special: Pepperoni, Italian sausage, mushrooms, no black olives, sub Jalapenos ($22 for Medium 15") *Blistered Shishito Peppers: Tossed in olive oil and sea salt over lemon aioli ($6) *Meatballs: Pork and beef meatballs, marinara, parmesan, crostini ($7) I like thin crust pizza, so this was more my style. The pizza was pretty big circumference wise for a medium. Managed to feed both of us for this one meal. (I had two slices and the roomie had the rest.) The crust was soft, but also had a nice chew. A good amount of cheese and toppings as well. I adore shishito peppers, so I enjoyed these. Could have used a little more seasoning, but the lemon aioli helped. The portion was pretty hefty as this was the one dish we couldn't finish. I thought the meatballs were pretty standard. Though one wasn't quite a whole meatball. It almost looked like someone had a bite taken out of it? I know that wasn't the case, but I did notice one was smaller than the rest. I do love my meat and sauce, so this fulfilled that craving. Even though the roommate just prefers to order from a particular chain pizza restaurant, I like trying new spots. Not necessarily on my list of go-tos for pizza delivery, but I'm glad I tried them out.

This place used to be great 4 years ago I heard that it has changed ownership that could be the reason that the quality has gone downhill. I really hope they can learn how to make the great pizza again that they were known for I will not be back until they do.

I eat here maybe 4 times a week because it's near the office. Quintessential American pizzeria. Great pizza, good chopped salad. Good pricing. Great guys that work there.

I am from Brooklyn. Pizza is my favorite food, and I ate a ton of pizza while living in NYC. I came here because of the blog posts and a few slices of shitty west coast pizzas, because I am desperate to find a decent slice. I got 1 quick margarita slice. They heated it up in the oven for me. $6. (pricy) Cool location tho. Toppings: The tomatoes on it were kinda watery and the skins were not a pleasant mouth-feel. The basil was not noticable. Cheese: This shit had no grease??? I don't want to eat oil but all good pizzas have a tiny bit. Also this tasted like a low-fat, watery or too-long-in-the-fridge motz to me and that's not a good sign. Full fat motz all the way if you want anything close to decent. Sauce: Where is the seasoning? Can't find the flavor. Sure it tasted like watered-down tomatoes and it's a tomato sauce. That's bare-minimum. Glad it didn't taste like pasta sauce or shitty store-bought sauce at least. Dunno if they are using san marzano tomatoes, if they are it's a shame. Crust: Texture-wise we are miles away from the shitty west coast cracker-crust but it's still miles away from the NYC crust and kinda sad. All chew, kinda just bread-y and kinda dehydrated. Slight crunch sound when you bite in but not the satisfying one. Could barely call it thin crust. Kinda medium crust which ain't it. Also no seasoning, really bland, like where's the salt for real. --------------------------------------------------- This ain't a nyc slice or even close. This place does not have the honor of that title. I can get a $1 in NYC miles better than this. Regardless, this slice texture-wise and tomato wise is a lot less sad than a ton of pizzas out there and considering I'm on the west coast and that the location is in an aesthetically pleasing spot I give it a 2/5 for yelp.

Ordered the meatball sandwich and the Caprese sandwich. The meatballs were just okay. It had a very interesting flavor. The Caprese sandwich was also just okay. The service was not friendly. But the place was very crowded. It is a cute very small restaurant but I do not think I would return for either sandwich. Both came with lays potato chips.

The reason this place is worth noting at all is because its the closest pizza by the slice spot to the entrance of the Presidio. Its not bad but its definitely one of the lower tier pizzas available in the City. Unless you live around the corner or just don't really know or care about good pizza there is no point. No frills. Average at best. Also don't bother asking for a receipt if you pay cash cause the guy working there will just be a smart ass about it. I guarantee anyone from the East Coast will be angered by this place. Or you'll just shrug your shoulders cause if you look at it before purchase you know its not going to be anything special. There's only... 1 or 2 spots in the City worse than this. And what's sad about it is it looks legit from the outside. I only ate here cause I try them all. This would be a 4.1 on One Bite Pizza Reviews. And $4.00 is what a cheese slice costs. I appreciate that about this place, the price. Some places charge way too much for what they have compared to these guys. So actually they're not the worst in the City, just of the spots that seem legit or could be. Would old Italian grandmothers and grandfathers be rolling in their grave? This place isn't even worth anyone rolling in their grave. I shouldn't roast this place but come on guys, be aware of what else is out there in the Pizza game within this City alone. Some awareness would be appreciated. The pricing of $4.00 shows some but in New York there are $1.00 slices better than this. Yeah, I know we're not in New York. This place is in an excellent location otherwise I wouldn't care. By the way I read their claim to fame is using high quality ingredients and having experimental toppings... what are you talking about? I didn't notice the ingredients being of any notable quality or unbelievable variety. They ask where else can you customize the toppings of your slice? Almost every single slice place. What happened to being able to deliver a solid cheese slice before getting into the wide world of experimental toppings? I saw a guy come in to order BBQ chicken pizza. Maybe that's where they shine. Bet they slay Hawaiian too. I want there to be a great pizza slice by the entrance to the Presidio. You guys could decide to be that but who am I do tell you what to do? Oh well. Still glad this place exists but unlikely to revisit.

While not the best pizza in the city, it's still good pizza. That combined with the location next to the Presidio and the outdoor dining makes this place pretty darn nice. Also, the sandwiches and sides are good too. My daughter loves the caprese panini, and the wings are really tasty.
