Da Attilio

"Situated in one of the liveliest working-class neighbourhoods of Naples, this restaurant serves traditional Neapolitan pizzas, including a few unusual innovations such as pizzas in the shape of an 8-pointed star. In business since 1938 and now run by the third generation of the same family, Da Attilio has just a few tables arranged in two small dining rooms and doesn’t take reservations. Although you may have to wait at the busiest times of day, you’ll find the wait well worthwhile!" - Michelin Inspector

For pizza: Attilio is the best. Don’t believe the Da Michele and Sorbillo hype. The volume they do has led to a major decline in the consistency of their product. Attilio, on the other hand, is perfect.

Really nice pizza place in the heart of Naples! The taste is authentic, ingredients are fresh and good quality. There is a really cozy atmosphere even though it is usually very busy (so also be prepared to wait a bit outside - do not forget to go to the waiter first and „check-in” prior joining the waiting line). It was not the best pizza I’ve ever had but still pretty good.

Holy smokes! This was fantastic. We got to the restaurant 30 min before they opened and were the first in line. They are a well oiled machine and the pizza reflects that. The four of us all got an 8 pointed star pizza under the specials section and they were great. The points on the stars have ricotta in them and it beats any stuffed crust pizza I've never had in my life. Everything was fresh, literally straight from the oven. The owner was also so friendly. He said bye to us on our way out and when we walked past a second time and took pictures of the outside, he saw and waved at us with a big smile. I highly recommend this place.

Our experience at Pizzeria Da Attilio was far from the authentic Italian dining experience we hoped for. Despite going during the off-season, we faced an excruciatingly long wait. There’s no clear system for when they let people in, leading to confusion and frustration as guests lingered for hours—many still waiting after we finished our meal. To make matters worse, there’s no space outside to wait, so standing for such a long time was incredibly uncomfortable. The staff didn’t help matters either. While not unfriendly, they weren’t particularly attentive or warm, which left us feeling ignored during our entire visit. I usually trust waitstaff recommendations, but this time it was a huge letdown. I asked for their best pizza and went with the “bestseller of the month.” What I received was far from what I expected: a pizza-like creation without any sauce or cheese, just bread with apple sauce, hazelnuts, pork loin, and pear. It was not what I would consider a pizza at all, especially after waiting 1.5 hours outside. The lack of basic elements like sauce and cheese made it feel more like a snack than a meal, and it only added to my frustration. For a place that’s supposed to be a culinary highlight, the long wait, lack of customer care, and disappointing food made for a truly underwhelming experience. Definitely not worth the wait or the hype. I’m sure there are good pizzas here but unfortunately I had a bad experience.

Google
Exemplar of the Neapolitan Pizza tradition with something for everyone. Small space with a wood-fired pizza oven that delivers chewy, crunchy perfection. My anchovy and caper "Campangola" was perfect - the red sauce was excellent. It can get busy but they move quickly. Staff, including the owner are friendly and helpful.

Google
Pizzeria Da Attilio on Via Pignasecca is an absolute gem! The pizzas are incredible—fresh, flavorful, and authentically Italian. The staff is super friendly and always helpful, making the whole experience warm and welcoming. Prices are very reasonable for the quality you get. The restaurant is clean, well-maintained, and has a few outdoor tables if you prefer dining al fresco. They also offer takeaway if you're on the go. I really love this place and highly recommend it to anyone in Naples looking for a great meal!

Google
Hands down one of the best pizzas we have ever had. Super fast service, we arrived without a reservation and were seated immediately. The funghi and pumpkin pizza was out of this world. Great prices and wonderful staff, especially Pia and Orlando. An absolute must if you're seeking authentic Neapolitan pizza.

Google
The Pizza Carnevale was absolutely delicious, shaped like a star and with the corners filled with ricotta cheese. The wait outside was LONG (over an hour) in a crowded street, since we were 5 people, and when we called in advance they told us (a bit annoyed) that they do not take reservations. But once inside? Service was good, pizza was amazing, local beers were great. Worth it!

Google
We had a great experience here, we waited for 10 minutes. The staff was very friendly and the ambiance inside was very nice. The pizza was amazing! We would highly recommend the margarita and the star shaped pizza carnevale. Highly recommend this place!:)

Yelp
Really good pizza but you have to get here right when they open. They have 1 appetizer from the long list of apps. And you better eat fast because they have a line. Wine and beer and desssrt. No salads. The same family since 1938.
google avatar

Yelp
Came here for dinner. It seems there's always a line. I think my wait was 20-30mins which isn't terrible. They have indoor and outdoor seatings which i opted for. Lots of pizzas to choose from that all sounded great. They have their special pizzas that come in form of a star which kind of looks like a monstrosity but I had to try one. Ended up with carnvale which has sausages and ricotta near the crust. Overall really good. Ricotta was softest I ever had. Although I'd probably try something different if I come again. Would recommend. Cash only!!

Yelp
Wow! Delicious and incredible value. Even though we couldn't speak English. We came in town on a cruise ship and went explore the city and find pizza. We FOUND it! This place knocked our socks off. The outside was nothing to look at but the food -- OMG! Our Pizzas were 5 Euros each.

Yelp
I came to Naples to eat Neapolitan Pizza, as much of it as I can squeeze in. I started with Pizzeria Attilio, and it was a great start! I ordered an Arancini and a Crocche to start. The arancini was one of the best I've ever tasted, filled with cheese, risotto (of course), and bits of pancetta (I think - might have been ham). The potato crocche was stuffed with cheese and was a perfect combination of texture and flavor! I decided on the Pizza Attilio when I saw the description, 9 slices of different pizzas chosen by tje Master Pizzaiolo Attilio. It was a no-brainer, and it was amazing! I didn't ask which 9 and it didn't matter. One day when I'm bored, I'll look at the menu to figure them out, but I'm betting that won't happen. The crust was perfect! It had the right elasticity and char. It may have been the lighted crust I've ever had. I didn't feel stuffed when I finished. I felt satiated. Perfect! Service was good. I was first in line, 10 minutes before they opened.

Yelp
Best pizza we had on our trip! Dough was delicious and taste was great . Get in eqrly because there was a line. Prices are very reasonable still.

Yelp
Locally owned pizza shop where you can see the owner making his pizza pies as you walk in the door. The margherita was phenomenal -both the cheese and the sauce were so flavorful. We also had the Natalina - which was a white pie with fried cod, escarole, tomatoes and olives which was outstanding. Get them both - you won't be disappointed. The prices are incredible - 5 to 10 euro for most pizzas. You have to get pizza while in Naples and this is the place to get it!

Trenton W.

Yelp
Delicious pizza, worth the wait to get in. Carnivale pizza and the 9 different slices were great!

Yelp
The food was pretty decent but negative points on the overall atmosphere. Extremely rude hostess but I'm not sure if it was because I didn't speak Italian or if it was a racial issue. However, this is how they boxed my leftover pizza.

Yelp
Attilio will change your perspective on Italian pizza. When you taste the pizza, you will understand the difference between a tourist attraction and a local gem. This is without a doubt the best pizzeria I have experienced in Naples, Rome, Florence, or coastal Italy. Service and ambiance reflect local hospitality, and Attilio himself made sure to ask us if we enjoyed the food he prepared for us.

Joshua H.

Yelp
Get the Carnivale pizza! It's the best pizza I've ever had in my life. The crust is so tasty and the cheese filling in the crust was very fresh. I love the sauce.

Yelp
Yum yum yum. First stop in Napoli, this pizza place is a great place to start your pizza journey. They are in the middle of the market, though the store is longer and deeper than originally thought which is nice with more seating. We came early at 1230 soon after they opened so immediate had seating. They have a large selection of pizzas, and particularly known for their 5 point pizzas stuffed with ricotta in the corners. Find the one to your liking, order, relax and get ready to dig in to hot pizza! In true Napoli style, the outside edge is crispy but soft in the center so eat with a knife and fork. I loved the classic one while the ricotta one is also fun to try.

Yelp
We ordered the pizza Carnevale. Five star shaped with each corner filled with tasty ricotta cheese, topped with Neapolitan sausage and Parmigiano Aged 24 months and pecorino Romano. The service was wonderful, the atmosphere cozy; walls were decorated with artistic napkin drawings. We enjoyed a local birrdalborgo Belgian Ale (Maladetta) and left well satisfied!

Yelp
Great pizza. Feels very authentic as you watch the owner prepare the dough and pizza behind a small counter in the entrance. Know that this spot is well known and likely busy be prepared to wait!

Yelp
Spent a night in Naples while on vacation, of course we had to get pizza! Thanks to David Chang and Ugly Delicious on Netflix, I was able to navigate our way to this sweet little gem in an alleyway. There were plenty of people crowded in the front and across from the restaurant. Walk in and you can catch a glimpse of pizzas getting made, from preparation and straight into the oven. Everyone was very friendly and smiley, all good vibes so we didn't even mind the wait. We devoured 5 pizzas so quickly as soon as they were all set on the table (and we got our videos and pictures in) with forks and knives in hand. The dough was amazing and the ingredients were fresh. Truly an amazing meal.

Yelp
We considered going to one of the original pizza places but were told the lines would be long and not quite a sit down dining place we were looking for. Our hotel concierge recommended this place instead and we could not thank her enough for it! It was the best pizza we had in all of Italy. This place is down a smaller alleyway but don't let that deceive you. You'll be able to smell the pizza outside and peak in to see them rotating the pizzas in and out of the brick oven in the front of the shop. We only had to wait a few minutes for a table to clear and got served right away. They have beer and wine available to enjoy with your pizza. The menu has so many options it was hard to choose. We got a half marinara and half Margherita, it was actually on the menu and perfect for trying different flavors. We also got the mushroom pizza which was absolutely delicious. At first we weren't sure if we should each get our own pizza but then we looked around and saw that's what everyone else was doing. We both ended up eating our own pizzas which are the size of most medium American pizzas. Worth every bite!

Yelp
This place was recommended to us by our hotel front desk attendant. She said she believes this place to be better than those more famous ones in the city. We didn't make it to those more famous pizzerias, but I can't imagine better pizza. No one really spoke a lot of English, and we used our extremely minimal Italian and it was fine. They were kind when we didn't know much Italian, but much of the restaurant was filled with locals (or at least they were speaking Italian). Our pizzas came to us quickly. The crust was extremely delicious. The ends were chewy, yet also crisp, but the majority of the pizza was very thin. I don't like a heavy crust, or need it to be very crispy, but it also wasn't soggy. It was really perfect. Prices were comparable with other pizzerias we saw/dined at. So much cheaper than in the United States. I would have paid triple for a lesser quality pizza. I'd be happy eating this pizza every time I eat pizza.

Yelp
Food 5 Value 5 Service 5 Décor 4.5   Ricotta stuffed crust. Can I end the review here? I was extremely impressed with this lovely establishment. Their servers are so friendly... even after closing, my friend and I were there as well as the couple sitting next to us... they did not rush us whatsoever or make passive aggressive statements hinting at us to leave (in NYC, they'd leave the bill on the table and say "take your time" which really means GTFO please). This was greatly appreciated as we were finishing our wine and having quite a few laughs.   The star shaped pizza was out of this world- there are so many options on the menu, it's a bit overwhelming. This place was featured on Ugly Delicious and I'm so glad I went! There's also an ADORABLE dog (named Luna) that lives in the restaurant. I CAN'T wait to come back.

Yelp
Amazing pizzeria! Delicious pizzas, fast service and beautiful-cosy place to eat. Highly recommend!

Yelp
I went to Attilio's with my family on our last night in Naples, and I'm thanking the stars we did. The pizza was so goooood! Fresh ingredients, made right in front of you, and delivered to your table in a cheerful family atmosphere, even late on a Saturday night. The place was charming, and the staff were friendly and sweet to us. They tolerated my poor attempt at Italian with friendliness, and Attilio (who was there!) was genuinely concerned about whether we enjoyed the pizza. We had Margherita, Napoletana and Fritta pizzas. I just had a slice of leftover Fritta pizza for breakfast. Delicious!

Yelp
The best in the whole world! I have had lunch here three years back and now I came back to Napoli for the pizzeria! Hope in the future they will open the same in Beijing !

Yelp
My husband and I waited about 40 minutes for a table (we passed the time by buying beers from the market across the street @ €1.50 each) and it was ABSOLUTELY WORTH EVERY MINUTE!!! The pizza we enjoyed was the best of our lives. Amazing, unexpected combinations paired with perfectly cooked crust made for the most incredible dining experience we've ever had at this price point!! We can't wait for more!!!
google avatar

Hollie B.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing!! The staff is pleasant and very helpful...they are happy to speak English to help you. You may sit where you choose and your order gets taken very quickly so you do not have to wait long. The pizza comes out very quickly and searing hot. The taste is unmistakable and the pizza is uncut so eat it how you choose! The crust is moderately thick, but quit soft with a fired exterior. The pie itself is very thin...very much expected on Naples. I came twice and the experience was delightful on both occasions. This place is not to be missed!!

Yelp
Probably the best pizza we had while visiting Naples, and just down the street from our Airbnb. Crowded on a Tuesday night, which goes to show that the locals like it too. They use the typical wood burning pizza oven situated at the front of the restaurant, so you can observe firsthand if you are waiting for a table. They also have the star shaped pizza with ricotta cheese in the crust. Many different pizza varieties. Prices were very good too.

Megan V.

Yelp
Must visit in Naples! We got one of the star shaped pizzas with ricotta stuffed crust (don't remember the name but it was on the second page of the menu) SO GOOD and the pesto pizza-also SO GOOD. It's no wonder it's named one of the best pizzerias in Naples! Plus the staff are very friendly.

Spela G.

Yelp
This pizza place is delicious and charming! We have been on a mission to eat at all the top rating/appearing-on-shows/friends-recommended pizzerias and we went to A LOT of places. Attila is the only one we ended up going to again. The 8-starred pizza filled with ricotta is out of this world, the dough is light and tasty, and the toppings delicious. The main pizza man is there to greet the people at the entrance and if that does not suffice there is the softest white dog to pat while waiting for the pizza-wonder to be delivered. €23 for two out-of-this-world pizzas with a bottle of house wine!
google avatar

Yelp
I arrived at Attilio fuller than can be. It was just after noon and this would be my fourth pizza of the day. As soon as I saw the pizza, my hunger reappeared. When the pizza comes out of the oven, clouds of smoke from and they travel with the masterpiece to your table. Immediately with my first bite, my mind raced to think of how many better pizzas I had eaten in my life. It reminded me of my favorite place in New York (John's of Bleecker). I couldn't think of too many. This was certainly the best pizza I had in Naples. The sauce was delightfully rich. The crust perfectly charred. Perfect.
google avatar

Yelp
The pizzas here are absolutely delicious and if you don't want to wait in line at da michele come here and you don't be disappointed - we had the mushroom pie and Margherita and they were very very yummy - there was no rush and the service was excellent 5/5. I found this thanks to Google

Yelp
Best pizza we've had in Italy. Honestly, the best ever in our lives. Perfecto! Fresh tomatoes, amazing crust, fresh mozzarella. Simply amazing.

Yelp
we happened upon this pizzeria while meandering in Naples while on a cruise. The staff was very welcoming, friendly, and tolerant of an ignorant English (only)-speaking American. And the pies were great. What more could you want while on vacation

Roger W.

Yelp
This place is the real deal. Great pizza. We've been eating the DOC pizza at a number of places (albeit not the most famous places with huge crowds extending out into the street) and Attilio has been the best. Very reasonably priced, friendly if brisk service, but excellent pizza. The guys making the pizza in the front are obviously skilled and fun to watch while you wait for a table.
google avatar

Terry K.

Yelp
This was our first taste of Napoleon Pizza and it was excellent! A perfect introduction to the pizza dough and fresh toppings. One pizza per person is highly recommended - and then maybe another. They bake so fast!
google avatar

Mark W.

Yelp
This pizza is delicious! We ate here two nights back to back because we wanted to try other pizzas on the menu. The house red wine was good (especially for 6€ a bottle). Service was quick and efficient.
google avatar

Varun K.

Yelp
The most excellent pizza in Naples. The ricotta-filled crust on the star pizzas is truly an experience you will never forget.

Yelp
Da Attilio is a Neapolitan institution. My family is from Sorrento, and of all the excellent pizza in Naples, Atillio's is probably my favorite. I was vacationing on the Amalfi Coast this week, and had the opportunity to make my annual pilgrimage to Naples for Vera Pizza Napoletana! My cousins and I arrived on a busy Friday evening, and the wait was about 20 minutes. The pies cook in about a minute, fused in the 900 degree heat. Soft, tender crust, and molten in the center, Neapolitan pizza is best eaten with a fork and knife-no slices in Naples! I had the Carnevale, with sheep's milk ricotta stuffed into the star-shaped crust, and it was phenomenal! It may not have the cachet of other, hipper pizzerie, like Starita, but Atillio definitely never disappoints!

marie h.

Yelp
Although this was listed on Ugly Delicious as one of the best places for pizza, the crust was disappointing. It had good taste, but was not crispy. Living in the US, there are some great options that were better than this. I said it. However, the ingredients were nice and fresh. I got the special with nine different slices, each with a different topping. I would try another place before coming back here. And that has nothing to do with the dog in the restaurant and barking when the place first opened (and there for about 45min).

Carole A.

Yelp
This is an authentic taste of Naples. It has become well-known for this, so the wait was pretty long for a table. Service was very slow and i asked the wait staff 3 times for water without getting it. The pizza (we got vegetarian pizza) was very good and ingredients tasted very fresh.

Yelp
Awesome. Been around forever. Get there early or you'll be waiting. Seating is tight but we got to sit with a Neopolitan couple and they were tons of fun. Like all great food in Italy this will cost you ~20 euro for two people with beer.

Yelp
We had a terrific dinner! Jet lagged from 10 hours of flying, we were exhausted before the standard 7pm restaurant opening time, but a woman tending the place let her dog out, we chatted, and she invited us in, stressing that it was 7 minutes before opening. My wife used the restroom and worried that "nobody is in the kitchen," though the woman had been tending a wood fired pizza oven. Promptly at 7, people started showing up to run the place, and within seconds out appetizer was served, and shortly thereafter the pizzas were in front of us. Before we left, the place was packed (and from what we could tell, the vast majority were local folks who placed their orders as they walked in the door - orally, to the owner/chef, who was ably assisted by a talented, unassuming and very attentive crew. Oh, and the house wine (red, in our case) was the best "house wine" I ever recall tasting. The woman recommended it after I told her what I was looking for from among three wines that cost three times as much. A try house wine, it did not even carry a brand name. These folks are the real deal. They need no gimmicks to draw tourists in. They could probably survive just fine by word of mouth from the locals. And they were so reasonably priced that my wife insisted we go over the bill, certain that they had undercharged us by mistake. They offer a couple of fried pizzas, and the one we had was delicious, and did not taste greasy. We also had a wood fired "4 Seasons," which is the best wood fired pizza I have ever had. The crust was a wonderful blend of slight crunchiness at the browned edges and incredible moistness in the fully cooked remainder. They are true artisans.
