The Best Restaurants in Houston’s Garden Oaks and Oak Forest | Eater Houston

"This Houston restaurant and wine bar’s relaxed dining room and double-tiered patio is beloved by GOOF residents for its seasonal farm-to-table menu and lengthy wine list. Choose from appetizers like oysters “Plonkefeller” and yellowtail crudo, plus hearty mains like a 72-hour short rib and a poached halibut in a white wine cream sauce. Enjoy half price snacks, such as warm brie and garlic, and half-off all glasses of wine and beer during happy hour, held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday." - Brianna Griff

The 12 Best Wine Bars In Houston

"Plonk! may not be as stylish as other spots on this list (it's in the back of a strip center), but the wine is great and the American bistro-style food might be even better. Instead of the expected wine menu headlines of red, white, or sparkling, Plonk! breaks down by-the-glass options starting with approachable stuff and moving into more esoteric options. Choosing something lower on the list might make you feel cool, like saying “film” instead of “movie.” But all the choices are equally drinkable. And snacks like crispy grilled shishitos and charcuterie, pizzas, and juicy burgers with guanciale go well with a glass of wine at the bar." - chelsea thomas, gianni greene, julie takahashi

Plonk! Bistro & Wine Cellar - Review - Garden Oaks - Houston - The Infatuation

"If someone DIY-renovated a backyard pool house with items only found at a local big box hardware store, it would probably look a lot like Plonk! Bistro. It’s not a particularly stylish place, but both the wine and food—especially the braised short ribs with savory polenta—make the lackluster surroundings a moot point. Instead of the expected wine menu headlines of red, white, or sparkling, Plonk! breaks down by-the-glass options starting with approachable wine and moving down into more esoteric choices. So choose something lower on the list and feel cool, like saying, “film” instead of “movie.” And the small snacks like crispy grilled shishitos and charcuterie, pizzas, and juicy burgers with rich guanciale and a half rack of lamb chops, make unexpectedly great compliments to a casual glass of wine at a bar in the back of a strip center. Regardless of the over-decor, Plonk! works best as a casual date spot in Garden Oaks, or as a hideaway to drink wine and veg out with a whole pizza on the patio." - Chelsea Thomas

Houston’s Most Underrated Restaurants

"This restaurant and wine bar, located in a longstanding Garden Oaks-area retail strip mall, remains a favorite among GOOF residents after more than a decade. Lauded barbecue chef Erin Feges once helmed the kitchen, but chef Kala Dunn has since taken over, enticing guests with pizzas prepared in the restaurant’s stone hearth and creating dishes like 72-hour short rib and poached halibut in a white wine cream sauce." - Megha McSwain

From the very beginning, the planning process was top-notch. I’d been in contact with the owner, Scott, for weeks leading up to our reservation, and he was nothing short of incredible. He was so generous with his time and ideas, even offering to create a personalized pre-fixe menu just for our group (which we ultimately didn’t need, but the gesture said so much about the level of care they put into their guests). We had a gorgeous private indoor room that accommodated our large group comfortably and stylishly—it felt intimate and special without being cramped. One of the highlights of the evening was the charcuterie board, a total showstopper crafted by their chef. It was beautifully presented and packed with flavor, a perfect way to kick off our celebration. Our server, Chris, was phenomenal—super engaged, attentive, and genuinely enthusiastic about making our night great. Every dish that came out was delicious, from start to finish. You can tell the team at Plonk! takes real pride in what they do. Whether you’re planning a big event like we did or just looking for a cozy, elevated date night, I can’t recommend this place enough. I felt welcomed, cared for, and totally impressed. Plonk! made our night unforgettable, and I’ll absolutely be back!

Google
This is a fun place. Not a typical wine bar feel. More of a neighborhood bar feel. A lot of wine on the menu. Definitely a revisit is needed. The food and the service is what made it for me. Super friendly and helpful. Ask about the name. It’s an interesting story. The food is fresh and delicious. Braised short ribs!!’

This was my second time going and tried the chicken pot pie that was the best by far! It was served in this cute small cast iron pot. They have a large wine selection, great boards and the customer service was excellent. Also ordered the prosciutto pizza that really paired well with the wine. Will definitely go back to try the rest of their menu.

Came by for a Quick Tuesday Happy Hour and fell in love. The staff is so warm and accommodating. You feel like your are meeting old friends. The food is divine. Every dish feels like you are tasting heaven! Come by for a quick bite, a catch up with friends, or just to enjoy their immense selection of wines! Plonk yourself in!

Google
Plonk is a total vibe! As soon as you walk in, you’re hit with the amazing smell of pizza baking in the oven—how can you not order one after that? I went for the prosciutto pizza and it did not disappoint—crispy, savory, and perfectly balanced. Their wine selection is impressive, and the staff is genuinely friendly and knowledgeable without being pushy. The real magic, though, is the patio: beautiful, relaxed, and dog-friendly, making it the perfect spot to unwind with friends (furry ones included). Already planning my next visit—Plonk is definitely a new favorite!

Google
A wonderful experience for our first time here. Had heard about it from locals who sweat by it. Yellowfin Crudo was a highlight, nice wine selection @ nice prices. Also enjoyed the shishito peppers. We ordered two pizzas that took a while to come out, as they have a small kitchen, but staff was attentive and aware that it was taking longer than normal. They made it worth our while & we will be back.

Google
Well this is definitely a hidden gem in the neighborhood! A friend of mine recommended it to me one night. The next day we had to try it since we are foodies. The atmosphere is very calm and relaxing. It’s a great place to hang out either at the bar, outside, or dining in. The waiter was excellent in comparing wine with our meal. The food was delicious and very well cooked. And the dessert was so delicious! Just know that you have to save room for it because it’s a very generous portion.

Google
Way too overpriced. I am giving it 2 stars because our waiter was the best. He was generous, kind, and entertaining. Other than that, it sucked. The two bottles of wine we got retail around $15, and they marked them up to around $50. That's a huge jump. My scallops were way too salty with little effort for the dish. My wife was misinformed about hers thinking it was separate lamb and pasta when it's lamb bolognese. She tells me everything was better with Erin Smith as a chef. This is a neighborhood spot for us, and it disappoints me to say that we won't revisit until these issues are fixed or at all.

Yelp
Visited this little gem for the first time last night with my adult kids. They live in Houston and frequently go to this restaurant and because I'm a wine lover from Norwalk, CT they thought I'd like it. They were absolutely right! We started with 2 orders of their perfectly baked oysters! This ranks as one of the finest appetizers I've ever tasted. Two orders gave us 3 oysters each to enjoy but I could have easily, and happily, eaten more! I followed this with my main course of the Burrata Meatball. As an Italian-American from the East Coast I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to meatballs. However, this dish was wonderful. The tomato sauce was as good as my mother's and the meatball was a tribute to cooking Italian. My son enjoyed his pizza topped with prosciutto. Delicious with a bit of a kick. The owner (whose name I neglected to get) stopped by our table to chat and our server (again I neglected to get his name) was wonderful! Many, many thanks for an enjoyable evening. There's no doubt this restaurant will be on my list to revisit next time I'm in town!

Yelp
I definitely enjoyed dining at Plonk. I had the green salad which was fresh and delicious, and shared the sausage and radicchio pizza which was also very good. We all shared a bottle of wine and had a nice time. The service was great. It wasn't very crowded which surprised me. We will definitely be going back.

Yelp
I've never had a bad meal here! Scott, the owner, and the rest of the staff is always so accommodating. I've been coming here since 2021 and it's still my favorite restaurant in the neighborhood! My top favorite: The Wild Mushroom Chicken is out of this world with the king trumpet mushroom cream sauce. It's a very good portion as they give you (almost) half of a roasted chicken, topped with Parmesan gnocchi. Definitely worth sharing with the table! The Le Cochon or The Pig is a fun one as it's served in a big board with the options of eating your slow-cooked Berkshire pork with your steamed buns or lettuce wraps. The flavors are even more colorful when you add the toppings and in-house sauce that looks like it might be bbq sauce... but better because it's got a little bit of a bite to it! It's fresh, colorful and the pork is tenderrr! Last but not least, the 72 Hour Short Rib is a must try! The meat falls apart as soon as you touch it and sits on the best grits I've ever had, Plonk's Anson mills cheddar grits. The wine reduction compliments the dish and every bite makes you wish that the dish doesn't end. I highly recommend this restaurant for a date night, a casual night, a family night or just any night! They never disappoint and is truly a staple within the neighborhood.

Yelp
Danielle and Geoffrey did a fantastic job at making me feel welcome and they always filled up my water! They educated me with the wine and it wasn't too cold or loud which is enjoyed . the bathrooms are clean too!

Yelp
Service was not as we have experienced in the past. I like the vibe and the menu, flavors in general were good but the service was off. One person would ask for drink order, then another would come and ask same question, then neither would bring and we'd have to remind. Chef would not add a protein to the salad but instead put the shrimp in a bowl on the side, which was ridiculous. pacing was way off. Brought 2 entrees, long gap for another, then the last came as the first 2 were finishing, burger was by then overcooked.

Yelp
Amazing neighborhood wine bar with suave ambiance and intimate patio. Phenomenal wine selection with generous portions for both salad and main courses. Must try!

Yelp
Truly not a better place I could recommend in all of Houston. Scott, the owner, is a delight of dry humor and passion for the business he runs. The food is phenomenal, drinks and wine are insane, and all the waiters have every bit of information you need to make the right decision. We love coming here more than anywhere else because of the quality and the service. If you're looking for a traditional steakhouse this is different, but better... slower turn around on food time, but infinitely better experience in all ways. Cannot recommend another restaurant in Houston more. 10/10

Yelp
I've lived in the area for two years and am now mad at myself for waiting so long to come in here. The ambiance, service, menu, food quality, and wine selection are all top tier. I didn't take any photos unfortunately but we enjoyed the mussels, short rib, and peach cobbler. Fantastic spot for dinner. Can eat at the bar and watch a sports game or at one of their tables for a more elegant date night. Owner was present throughout the evening, and his passion for his restaurant was readily evident. Don't hesitate like we did.

Yelp
Neighborhood spot that you might drive past without thinking of stopping but quick service, great staff, and delicious food! Really enjoyed the sweet potato appetizer!

Yelp
Plonk was okay, but honestly for a location that is so close to residential neighborhoods, I would expect it to be more kid friendly. I came here on a Sunday night with my 2 kids and not only do they not have high chairs but they also ONLY have cheese pizza available. I get it's a wine bar....but really think they would do so much better if they offered some butter noodles or chicken tenders and threw in a high chair or two in the back. The night started out great with service and our waiter was on top of taking our orders and then stalled out completely when we were trying to pay. It was like they completely forgot we were even there and took forever to close out. Caesar salad was not very good in my opinion and the Baked Rotolo was so heavy on the parmesan flavor that is all I could taste. The Short Rib was delicious and the pizza was very tasty. I liked the variety of wines they had by the glass as well. The Le Cochon was a bit of a disappointment and didn't read as "deconstructed" as it should so it was like putting tacos together. This would be my new go to weekend spot if they played a little more to the family appeal....

Yelp
Stopped by this place for a glass of wine with some friends on the 4th of July. It's located in a strip center and has a large outdoor patio area. The service was great and the food wasn't too bad either. They have a good selection of wine to choose from as well and they have lots of specials. Parking is decent and the ambiance is set for more of a night time setting inside. It was too hot and humid to sit outdoors but I'm sure on a nice night it's great.

Yelp
The food was absolutely AMAZING from start to finish. For the appetizers we tried the Brie & Garlic as well as the Stuffed Peppers with Pork and UGHHH love love love. The Cheese Grits?? OUT OF THIS WORLD as well. I had the Tumbleweed Flatbread as my main because we had so many different dishes to try between 5 of us and it did not disappoint either! I do give it 4 stars instead of five ONLY because the inside is a bit outdated and the environment is weirdly quiet for such a social establishment.

Yelp
We had the spare rib, oysters, and p. (Pear) pizza. First off, all the dishes were extremely flavorful. I'm not a cooked oyster fan, usually preferring them raw (and not from the gulf), but these were excellent. The pizza was rich. I'm a huge fan of pear in general, and even though this pizza had what I think was blue cheese, it was actually very tasty. It's tough to eat more than a couple slices because of how rich it was. Our friends got the spare rib because they were out of the ribeye . None-the-less, delicious. A couple of other things to note: The inside of the restaurant Vs the the outside are completely different vibes. With the inside feeling more dressy, and the outside more casual. So, you'll have your choice of experience. Also, I was pleasantly surprised with their beer selection. I believe they had 6 different taps. And they are from all over, not just local selection. There was a Stone, Scrimshaw, and Yellow Rose just to name a few. This can be a fun local spot to go have some yummy eats with your friends, or dress up and go on a date night inside.

Yelp
We came here for a date night. Showed up around 8 or so and we were promptly seated. It took a while (maybe 20 minutes) before our wine order was taken and then about the same amount of time after the wine was served to take our food order. The best thing we had was the Oysters Plonkefeller. Lots of cheese and chunked bacon. Super savory. For my entree, I got the 72 Hour Short Rib. The first bite was incredible, but unfortunately the rest of it just tasted burnt. The cheddar grits were pretty lumpy. The best thing on the plate after that first bite of short rib was the Swiss chard (I would order that as a side dish). My girlfriend got the wild mushroom chicken, which was unfortunately pretty dry. Overall, cool atmosphere, friendly staff, and a good wine list, but the food could have impressed more.

Izzy A.

Yelp
Owner is an asshole. Very disrespectful and not inviting at all. He basically told me in not welcome when I came in because I didn't look like someone who would immediately buy a drink from his establishment. Ambiance is nice though it's kinda dark.

Yelp
Came to Plonk for a 92 nd birthday dinner for my girlfriends mom's birthday. Unfortunately, the server seemed more interested in telling his personal stories in relation to our conversation. He should write down people's orders since that is the basics of a good server. Needless to say my order was forgotten. It took the restaurant 10 minutes before we able to get someone's attention to this fact after the server. Chris then came over and told us that they were plating as he finally checked on the food brought by the food runners. Then it came out burnt when I ordered it as rare as possible which I was told by Chris that is sous vide medium rare. Funny look up Sous Vide medium rare burger and imagine that it is pink . Very poor service. 72 Hour Short rib was delicious. Grits and char perfect. Chicken Pot Pie presentation was great. Medium burger was perfect for my girlfriend as she likes well done. Pork chop was big and very tasty. Chris the server did tell us as he was taking our order that he would forget something. Too bad I didn't believe him. 'S Maybe he should start a standup act. Yelp
My wife and I went for our first time tonight and are absolutely thrilled! We had the Le Cochon (The Pig) and a Meat and Cheese Board (on top of several bottles of wine). The pork was delicious and one of a kind, highly recommend and the sauce to go with was extremely unique and very good. All of the pickled veggies are house made and the baguette is to die for on the meat and cheese board. We were able to speak with the owner, Scott, and head chef, Kayla, and both seem to be great people who care deeply for the restaurant in all aspects. The restaurant was very well put together and everything was clean. All the folks here take pride in the restaurant and we highly recommend this to anyone. The goal of the restaurant was good food and good wine, all within the neighborhood and they didn't miss a beat. Whether you're a local or visiting, Plonk is highly recommended by us!

Yelp
Plonk! Was the greatest mid-week find for two gals looking to drink some wine over good conversation. The noise level was appropriate, the service was amazing, and the food was delicious! We ordered a bottle of Pinot Grigio, the Spanish meat + cheese, and the warm Gouda. Both shareable! I usually heed on places that are connected to a plaza, but Plonk is a great affordable place to get your drink and snacking on! The hospitality and service really makes me want to return and try a few other wines and food items! A few suggestions? -Expand your white wine list because we were told there was only one Pinot Grigio option. -highly recommend the warm Gouda but the Spanish meat and cheese, the pickled items made everything taste extra salty... -combine your menus :) for the two tops there's not a lot of space...

Yelp
Had dinner here tonight with family again. Gerald, our waiter, was fantastic and very helpful. Everyone loved their meal. I swear this is the best chicken pot pie in town!

Yelp
Amazing selection of eclectic and tasty small plates- and a huge wine selection. My gigantic pup was welcomed on the lovely outdoor shaded patio and the service was over the top great. Definitely a repeat.

Yelp
I love the food on this place also the ambience. The charcuterie of and wine was hreaty

Yelp
Some of the very best food in Houston. Best Halibut outside of Alaska/west coast. Exquisite chicken dish and short rib. Berry cobblers and brownie Sunday are yum. Best for couples and not families.... Don't understand the Karen's on here ripping the place when it's not a family restaurant! This is an adult place and it's wonderful.

Tiks T.

Yelp
You absolutely COULD NOT ask for a place with a better ambience. The food is amazing, and the staff is a delight. From the music, food, and decor..... 100 out of 10..... No lie....

Yelp
If we were pirates, I think the owner here would make me walk the Plonk. That's a shame because I liked the ambiance of this place the only time we came in here. So here's the plonk and short of it. I always support local businesses, but I had kind of a bad experience with these guys, as what I can only assume to be the owner (although I didn't meet him a couple of weeks earlier when I actually came in here) saw me driving by, taking pix of all the businesses in the plaza (the ones I'd been to, and the ones I wanted to go to), since I hang out here all the time usually with Barbie's family (her brother in law brought me here). So the owner decided to jog about 500 feet after my car which by this time was at the gas station on the corner and about to turn onto the main road, yelling at me. He very threateningly bellowed into my passenger side window to ask what was I doing. And the funny thing about this is that it's the middle of coronavirus and everybody's supposed to be wearing a mask before interacting with strangers and he had no mask on and was leaning right into my car. It was f***ed up. I don't care about stuff like that but it was so out of line. He said he was concerned about me taking pictures in the plaza because businesses had been broken into. Yeah because this is what people do before they rob you, they take pix of your plaza because no photos of anything are available on google. He seemed like a hardcore loves-to-fight type, looking for a fight honestly. I handled it well, defused him, he called me a liar basically and then chilled out and moved on. And the funny thing is, if someone wants to rob his business they probably wouldn't be driving by during opening hours taking a picture of the business because I'm not sure what that would accomplish since Google has pictures of every inch of every property online already. It's just the mentality of someone is constantly looking for a fight. I've probably taking pictures of 10000 businesses inside and out literally, and I think it's the first time someone's aggressively called me out on it. And I spend all my time in Chinatown, Indiatown, Vietnamesetown, Montrose, The Heights, River Oaks and Spring Branch, and I've never had any issues with anything I do in those places, and on my first time taking pix for Yelp around here, I was called out and also was treated badly by at least 3 other business employees at different businesses in Oak Forest on the same day. My conclusion? I'm not welcome in Oak Forest or at this business. I also told him that the pictures were for my girlfriend (I didn't want to say Yelp because it'd freak him out, but Barbie looks at all my pix too and tells me which to delete and keep, so it was mostly true), and he acted like he didn't believe me. I think he backed down when he saw my muscles. Bye. So I was gonna give them 4 stars for my experience there, but it's -10 stars for how the owner behaved, and I think 2 stars is where I average it out to.

Jennifer S.

Yelp
Everything at the place rocks!! The ambience the food the staff and the wine. Treat yourself to the mushroom chicken or the short rib. You won't regret it!!

Yelp
I had a great time! I went on a Wednesday evening and there was plenty of seating available both on the inside and outside. Parking wasn't an issue and just seemed easy to get in and get settled. I loved the greenery and lights on the patio. I thought the wine selection was vast, although the server was excited to make pretty immediate recommendations based on how I described wine that I liked. Our server was very chatty, but definitely an enjoyable spirit to add to the experience. I got the baked Brie. I was expecting something more like a spread for some reason but it was closer to a flatbread. I really enjoyed it. The sweet potatoes were amazing! The sriracha aioli gave the sweetness a nice balance. The firecracker pizza was described as a "safe" option by one server, but recommended from another. I would agree. It wasn't memorable. I enjoyed my visit and would definitely frequent.

Jim G.

Yelp
I came in to meet a first date and ordered a $65 bottle of wine. The server said they were out and immediately started trying to steer me to the $90-100 range. Took several minutes of back and forth for him to suggest a bottle that wasn't on the menu but the same price and quality of what I'd originally asked for. Then while opening the bottle asked in a way I didn't care for "so what are we having for dinner tonight". Very presumptuous, and obviously trying to put me on the spot, the undertone being "come on, don't be cheap". Made the start of the date awkward and a really shabby way to do business.

Randy K.

Yelp
Food is absolutely fabulous. Great selection of wine. Geoffrey our was extremely knowledgeable with excellent recommendations

Yelp
This is a restaurant experience so perfect that I will remember it forever. My sister and I were hungry for real food after getting some froyo near by so we randomly walked into this place on a Wednesday afternoon. The interior is extremely clean and the set ups for the table were pretty and fancy. The man who greeted & took care of us was an absolute DELIGHT, unbelievably warm and welcoming while educating us all about Plonk. He brought out some wine to taste and the red blend he suggested was so perfect and delicious. It was also discounted for happy hour! He said the ingredients used at Plonk are very thoughtfully sourced & often local & the taste of the food backed this up 100%. I had some sort of hot sweet potato wedge that was INSANELY GOOD. I don't even like sweet potatoes but I wanted to cry at how tasty these were. Sooo perfectly seasoned and tasted almost like sausage somehow??? I have never enjoyed sweet potatoes to that extent, they were marvelous. We also got the Firecracker pizza, following suggestions from the gentleman helping us & it too was amazing. The perfect amount of habanero oil to spice things up without being overbearing. The arugula and prosciutto on top were stupendous as well. The service was truly unforgettable all around and just perfect. Dishes were cleared immediately and our waters never dipped to half full. They very clearly take this place seriously in every aspect and it shows. I highly recommend this place and will be returning.

Yelp
My husband was craving a pork chop and we were recommended Plonk! The pork chop was rich in flavor! The portions are huge! The food was exceptional!

Yelp
We randomly stumbled upon this place while attempting to find a late night dining option in the area that was either A. Open and B. Not the usual late night hangover pancakes or tacos spot. We struck gold. The service was impeccable and friendly. The FOOD was probably some of the most fulfilling and satisfying "made from scratch" American fare we've had in quite some time. The chicken pot pie presentation looked like it came from a Food & Wine magazine cover and tasted like it was made at someone's grandmas house from a sacred recipe passed down through generations. The wild mushroom chicken was covered in a light creamy sauce accompanied with perfectly sliced mushrooms that added the perfect additional texture to an already perfectly crisp chicken. We were some of the only diners here surrounded by "unique" decor and were more than pleasantly surprised by our experience. We will be back. Support local and support Plonk!

Yelp
Couldn't eat in the restaurant because my wife wasn't cleared from her Covid so Scot and crew made a Togo meal a date night ,thank you

Yelp
We just moved to Independence Heights area and were looking for some wine and cheese. Postinos, my go-to, was too far to travel. In recent weeks, Plonk had entered my social media stream on FB so I investigated, studied their menu and we made a trek down 43/Crosstimbers. I have a new Cheeseboard favorite!! I'll begin with Cheeseboard as it was the beginning of our meal. I'm partial to Postinos for their generous cheeseboard, but Plonk's board is hands down superior with its well selected cheese and the crusty warm baguette. Great with the white wine we shared. Because I'm a cheese lover, we also had the warm brie and garlic shareable. Again, fantastic. We had to ask for more bread and our waiter, Gerald, was very accommodating. I learned the restaurant was established in 2014 yet I'd never heard of it. Anyway, I thought Gerald with his easy style, knowledge of the menu and very attentive service had been there since the beginning. Surprise, he had only been there 2 days. You would never know!!! He added to our great evening. We shared the mussels (more of the delicious bread) and the halibut. We also had the yummy oysters Plonkafeller! No complaints here. The halibut was cooked to perfection and the mussels provided enough dipping sauce to make an entire new meal. We left knowing that we'd be back for wine and cheese and to try some of their other entrees and shareables.

Yelp
OVERPRICED, MEDIOCRE and PRETENTIOUS Plonk is Australian slang for cheap wine. The wine Plonk! Beer & Wine Bistro peddles is anything but cheap. However, this review has no concern with the wine menu at this nouveau cuisine restaurant in Houston Heights. It focuses simply upon one experience. My girlfriend and I dined at Plonk! this evening at the suggestion of a friend whom we invited to join us for dinner at the venue. I had no preconceived expectations hence arrived with an open mind. We were seated and given three menus: one for wine, one for "starters" (small entrees suited for sharing) and one for the main courses. I began by reading the wine menu limiting my options to a scant number of house wines by the glass because the other higher end pours per glass were excessively pricey in my opinion. I opted for the Sand Creek red blend ($ 8.00), which was priced reasonably. When the wine arrived the pour was "short". Enough said. Subsequently the three of us began engaging in a conversation only to be interrupted by the server about three minutes later with the perfunctory question, "Are WE ready to order". I thought to myself, "READY, good lord we've barely had time to read the menu and you can see we are immersed in a discussion". Attentive servers are mindful and instinctively know when customers are ready to order. Strike one. I politely stated we needed more time. The server returned awhile later. My girlfriend selected Oysters Plonkefeller ($ 20.00) and I chose the Tumbleweed Flatbread ($ 12.00). The description of my entree indicated the flatbread had three vegetable toppings. There was no indication on the menu that either of these entrees were spicy. If I had known mine was laced with red pepper I surely would have made a different selection. Unfortunately, the flatbread was so hot that after taking one bite I began sweating profusely. My girlfriend had the same experience after taking a few bites of her entree. She finished two of her oysters and left the rest. A while later the server returned and asked if everything was alright. I told her I could not consume my meal because it was too spicy. She did not offer to take the entree back and let me make another selection; I lost my appetite. Our guest ordered a beet salad and an entree of mussels. She seemed satisfied with both items. As the three of us continued our conversation a gentleman came to our table and attempted to remove what food remained on everyone's plates preceding his action by stating, "May I get these plates out of your way"? I responded, "They're not in our way". He said, "All the better" and took them anyway even though my guest was still eating her meal. I paid the check ($ 85.00) for everyone and we left two full plates on the table. When diners don't eat their meals it is fair to say there is a reason yet the server seemed completely ambivalent. To add insult to injury she tried persuading us to order desert at which point I asked her to bring us the check. Having worked as a server at many fine dining restaurants over the years it's easy to see when customers are dissatisfied, which we were. Strike Two. I was ready to leave and go elsewhere to find another restaurant where I might enjoy my meal after throwing $ 85.00 out the window. As we were leaving the server walked up to me and in a patronizing tone of voice said, "Have a nice night, sir". She then pointed her finger at me; a gesture I found disingenuous and off-putting. Based upon the totality of my experience at Plonk! I would not return nor do I recommend this venue to others.

Yelp
I can't believe I didn't review this place before. We love this venue and their staff. This is the perfect example for how a restaurant can strive during the pandemic. Their staffing is on point and they cater to your needs. We had the mussels and curry, and the Cochon special, both off menu. I can't thank our waiter enough for his recommendations and service.

Yelp
Good and service were both excellent! Our server was very knowledgeable on wine and provided my husband and I with some great recommendations. We had the yellowtail crudo and the sausage pizza, both were fantastic!

Yelp

Yelp
Looking for a place to eat close to independence heights and came upon this gem. Small interior with a much larger exterior dining room this off of the f many options. We opened with a Brie advertised as served with garlic, honey and walnuts but received a dish that featured macadamia nuts. No worries, it was smooth and balanced and was a good start to the meal. My dining partner opted for a chicken pot pie which came in an individual casserole dish straight from the oven. The crust was flaky, the chicken abundant and the sauce packed a little heat, maybe green chilis? I elected to feast on the pig dish after listening to the bartender rave about it. It featured two cuts of pork, the lean shoulder and the more unctuous pork belly. Chef suggest shredding and mixing the two to get the perfect mixture. He was right. The pig was accompanied by butter lettuce and steamed buns, a chili sauce, pineapple salsa, green onions and herbs to compose your personal bite. I found the steam buns a little heavy but the entire meal was a delight.

Yelp
You like surprises, right? Riiiight?!!! This place is a good one... On the way back home last night, my significant other says "hey, let's check out this burger place, has good reviews!" Of course the Hillbilly is in for something new. First surprise...the place isn't a burger joint. It's fine dining establishment. Second surprise... The menu. Adorned with pork, chicken and yes, even a burger...it is unusual. And tasty. Some examples..Le Cochon is a baking dish filled with the best pork shoulder I've ever had. And beside it, a nice square of Asian I fluenced pork belly. It's like I have one foot in France and another in Taipei. Drop the fork and pray to your preferred deity good. Getigetitgetit!. The shoulder is a little crispy on the outside, juicy and salty at the same time. Thee pork belly is crispy and fatty and bright. My cutting board that serves as a plate is festooned with peanuts, lettuce wraps, wonderful bao breads, pineapple and some kind of sauce I'd love to have the recipe for. My significant other has the chicken pot pie. The crust is light and toasted with fresh veggies and herbs It wonderfully brings back memories of Europe But, like the Ginzu knife commercial, there's more. The wine menu is well thought out and very tasty. Service is excellent and ample parking is available. You gonna like sooooo much...go now before the world finds this place and you can't get a table!

Yelp
The Plonk - a gem to cherish. Scott, Brian and Chef Kala are superb to work with. Collectively they orchestrated a beautiful dinner with awesome service and delicious food for our 14 guests . We highly recommend for a drop in or seated dinner. Thank you, Cathy and Dennis

Yelp
This is definitely a hidden gem in the neighborhood, to be honest after seeing the tent outside I thought it was a gym or yoga studio until I got up close and was very pleasantly surprised to see it was a perfect little hideaway for beer, wine and fantastic food! Now has been two visits there and everything was great both trips, service and food quality. We have had the flatbread twice because it was delicious and the second round got scallops which were fresh and delicious (even coming from my New England boyfriend who is a seafood snob), and the chicken pot pie which was also very yummy! Can't wait to use the outdoor area when it cools down because it looks really pretty, but this spot was definitely a place to check out and help share! Only thing I could say could improve is they're exposure and marketing because it's such a great spot and I never knew it was there!

Yelp
I love that this place holds true to its roots. As the neighborhood has exploded with young families that think kids should rule everything, we are always so happy to be able to come here and know that we can enjoy great food and an ADULT ambiance.

Yelp
Would have given 5 starts on this review, but at the price point of Plonk I am probably more critical. Service was exceptional, Angle was attentive but not overbearing. Scallop appetizer was amazing, didn't mind paying $32 for it but I only got 3 scallops and one was very over cooked. It was a flavorful dish, plenty of acid and well balanced. Brie and garlic app was straight forward but beyond delicious. I may be the odd man out here but curry with muscles? Was not for me but I see a lot of people here like them. While curry broth tasted good, I lost all flavor of muscles.

Yelp
The bartender was rude, drinks and charcuterie boards were overpriced and minimal. The flatbread was good.

Yelp
Incredible experience with food, fine wine, clientele and service team. The owner, Scott, is very personable. Kala, is an excellent chef, with unique ways of making exciting dishes. Lexi, Jen and other waitstaff are top notch. The outside patio is beautiful. Don't miss this hidden gem

Yelp
If you haven't been it's a must try! Best wine bar + delish food outside of downtown Houston. Keep in mind you might not find menu online because the food is based on what's in season. If you enjoy apple walnut salads, it has so good taste and they go light on the dressing which I like. It also comes with a mild blue cheese, which I got on the side.

Yelp
Had a friend's birthday dinner there and the food and wine was fabulous. The young man, that waited on us, unfortunately I did not catch his name, was excellent and extremely helpful. The entire experience was wonderful. I had an off menu special that was flank steak and it was probably the best I've ever had. Will definitely go again

Yelp
The food in this place is beyond amazing! I came here with a party of four and had the short ribs (so tender and juicy) crab cakes (deliciously garlicky) the pork (melts in your mouth) various salads and to top it, the brownie (cooked to order - we devoured it as soon as the dish was put on our table). You can tell that everything is cooked with very high quality ingredients, lots of care and right there for you. So delicious. The only thing that matched the food experience was the service - a big shoutout to Brian for being the most hospitable and caring waiter.
