Yelp
If we were pirates, I think the owner here would make me walk the Plonk. That's a shame because I liked the ambiance of this place the only time we came in here.
So here's the plonk and short of it.
I always support local businesses, but I had kind of a bad experience with these guys, as what I can only assume to be the owner (although I didn't meet him a couple of weeks earlier when I actually came in here) saw me driving by, taking pix of all the businesses in the plaza (the ones I'd been to, and the ones I wanted to go to), since I hang out here all the time usually with Barbie's family (her brother in law brought me here).
So the owner decided to jog about 500 feet after my car which by this time was at the gas station on the corner and about to turn onto the main road, yelling at me. He very threateningly bellowed into my passenger side window to ask what was I doing. And the funny thing about this is that it's the middle of coronavirus and everybody's supposed to be wearing a mask before interacting with strangers and he had no mask on and was leaning right into my car. It was f***ed up. I don't care about stuff like that but it was so out of line.
He said he was concerned about me taking pictures in the plaza because businesses had been broken into. Yeah because this is what people do before they rob you, they take pix of your plaza because no photos of anything are available on google.
He seemed like a hardcore loves-to-fight type, looking for a fight honestly. I handled it well, defused him, he called me a liar basically and then chilled out and moved on. And the funny thing is, if someone wants to rob his business they probably wouldn't be driving by during opening hours taking a picture of the business because I'm not sure what that would accomplish since Google has pictures of every inch of every property online already.
It's just the mentality of someone is constantly looking for a fight. I've probably taking pictures of 10000 businesses inside and out literally, and I think it's the first time someone's aggressively called me out on it. And I spend all my time in Chinatown, Indiatown, Vietnamesetown, Montrose, The Heights, River Oaks and Spring Branch, and I've never had any issues with anything I do in those places, and on my first time taking pix for Yelp around here, I was called out and also was treated badly by at least 3 other business employees at different businesses in Oak Forest on the same day. My conclusion? I'm not welcome in Oak Forest or at this business.
I also told him that the pictures were for my girlfriend (I didn't want to say Yelp because it'd freak him out, but Barbie looks at all my pix too and tells me which to delete and keep, so it was mostly true), and he acted like he didn't believe me. I think he backed down when he saw my muscles. Bye.
So I was gonna give them 4 stars for my experience there, but it's -10 stars for how the owner behaved, and I think 2 stars is where I average it out to.
