"Poppy’s has long been a favorite catering spot—everything is good, seasonal, and thoughtful. On the weekends, it opens up its café doors to the neighborhood, serving up Poppy’s beloved sweet treats (chocolate babka, carrot pistachio cake), plus tartines and grain salads. There’s a weekend lunch box, too, that’s great if you’re in a rush or want to take something to nearby Carroll Park. "

Lemon poppy semolina loaf was the star. Great texture and flavour. The coriander clementine bun was a bit too sugary and not enough of the other flavours. They don’t have decaf espresso which was a bummer. Ambiance is really nice and the sandwiches looked delicious so would come back for those.

I really wanted to love this cafe as it seemed like such a cute neighborhood spot. Sadly, the overall experience fell short. The cafe itself was small and featured a culinary boutique with specialty items. The aesthetic was super cute. The only seating was outdoors; once you placed your order they called your drinks at the bar as they were made, but brought the food out to you. We tried some pastries which were quite good. I ordered the egg sandwich which either came on a biscuit or brioche. I opted for the brioche, which was actually brioche toast, and tasted like a regular egg sandwich. I could have switched it to the biscuit, but by the time I was informed of that possibility, I had already taken a few bites and didn't feel like wasting food. I also ordered a cardamom maple latte, which was the special. They use Black Fox Coffee (which is one of my favorites) but unfortunately the latte fell short because the syrup they used was way too sweet (I had asked for half the amount but I think they forgot and put in the full amount). The biggest turnoff for me was the price. For 2 pastries, the egg sandwich, and the latte I paid just shy of $40, which is a lot especially since the sandwich and coffee were so underwhelming.

Google
Pretentious and snobby gourmet shop but cute enough that I will make a visit every once in a while. Tastes healthy and they seem to use the quality ingredients. Must’ve been a turn over at the counter as their service has gotten much better.

Google
I have always enjoyed the coffee and treats that I've gotten at Poppy's over the last few years and the employees are kind and efficient. However, they have an incredibly "cozy" indoor space and they seem to have no issue with people bringing their dogs inside to crowd among the people trying to order. I'm a bit nervous around dogs in such a small space so I've begun patronizing other cafes in the area ahead of Poppy's.

Busy place on weekends but food and coffee were worth the wait . Also tables outside are a plus

Google
Nah. Not worth it. Would rather spend my money at Byclio, similar concept of fresh products without pretentiousness. Had the lemon poppy loaf and it was so dense. If you are a person of color be prepared to get looked up and down. Not just by people behind the counter but by customers, even if it’s subtle.

Google
We visited Poppy’s for their Burnt Honey Bun which was limited on weekends. It looked extremely adorable even though it got squeezed in the box. The bun was delicate, especially the caramelized honey cream which wasn’t too sweet and greasy at all.

Google
Great neighborhood spot with some very good fare. The rhubarb crumble and scone were great in flavor and texture. The biscuit was equally delicious. Can see why this place was so busy in this quiet neighborhood.

Yelp
Poppy's is an exceptional coffee shop and take out spot in our neighborhood. The staff is friendly and always sweet. The Turkey sandwich and the lemon poppy loaf are my favorite items, but honestly you can't go wrong with anything. Sit outside with your coffee, and enjoy the quiet tree lined street. Pay a visit to the Secret Garden next door and you'll instantly fall in love with Cobble Hill.

Yelp
I pass by this cute little bakery everyday on my walk and it's always super busy with people hanging in their outdoor tables chatting or working. I finally came to try it out and had the Matcha Latte ($6). My drink was ready within minutes, so that was nice. Unfortunately, the matcha was a bit bland. It's not bad, but nothing amazing. Plus, I tried some of the cornbread from my friend and it was lackluster and crumbly. Maybe it was because it was towards the evening and the pastries are now cold, but what a shame that they can't heat it up for you either. They also offer some packaged salads, soups, and such but it is very pricey. Now I can stop wondering about this spot every time I pass by --not worth the money.

Yelp
This place is allllways busy. That's what made me and my partner want to try it. We've been a couple times and have tried multiple drinks (chai, teas, coffees) and I think it's good but I have other spots in the neighborhood I prefer. The cafe is very small, you walk in and grab your stuff but no in door seating. They have some benches outside but because they're such a popping spot, there isn't a good chance you'll get a seat. But they're not too far from Cobble Hill park which is a cute spot to sit and enjoy your drinks. We also tried their breakfast sandwich which was good but I'm not sure if I'd order it again - the best part to me was the biscuit it was on. I think I'd just order a biscuit no sandwich if I went back. I do appreciate that there seems to be a strong fan base that goes there. I see a lot of people wearing their merch, which is super cute. they have a clear aesthetic.

Yelp
I like this place. I hate how busy it is on the weekends tho.. lol. But I get it. They have very good chai and matcha for the record and really good pastries. And of course it's cute and close to home that's definitely a plus :)

Yelp
This review is for the seasonal pastries, the best being the pumpkin spice cinnamon bun. Honestly one of the best cinnamon buns in the city. Made from brioche with a good helping of warm gooey maple cream cheese frosting, this is a must get. I think this is the last weekend to grab one so hurry in! I also tried the honey corn muffin and maple scone which had chunks of pear. Both were worth a return visit. I've also heard the biscuits are a neighborhood staple. Next time for sure!! Staff were friendly and it has that small cafe feel with some grab and go items. I'll certainly be back!

Yelp
In an ideal world, I would be taller, smarter, better-looking, and own a brownstone in Carroll Gardens. I'd have enough time and money to sit in the sunshine outside Poppy's and eat delicious pastries and/or sandwiches every day. I'd read if alone, and converse about non-work-related things if not, sipping on excellent beverages they provide, and not taking care of my kids (in this world, they take care of themselves). This may not be an ideal world, but it's not so bad. I still get to occasionally sit in the sunshine outside Poppy's, eat and drink what they have on offer, and enjoy this perfect little cafe. Everything is pretty great thus far, but in particular: The sea salt sprinkled chocolate chip cookie is one of the best you can find anywhere ($5, but actually worth it). The comically tall biscuit sandwich is tough to get your mouth around with the thick, fluffy biscuit, crispy prosciutto, white cheddar, greens, and hot honey...but it's so very, very tasty. And they have an adorable selection of products they make, or curate, including chili crisp and chili oil and snacks labeled "Poppy's" that I can get and give to one of my favorite nieces, whose name is Poppy. And then I can eat it all when I go to her parents' house, because she's three years old and definitely doesn't need chili crisp.

Yelp
Loved this cute little spot, a perfect place to bring a book and sit outside in the sunshine. I ordered an iced tea and the spinach and feta roll which was delicious. I was really wanting to try their seasonal focaccia but it was all sold out so I will definitely be back to try it out.

Yelp
A cute cafe nestled right by St. George's Hotel with a covered outdoor seating area. Everything seemed a bit overpriced (to be expected), but the citrus sumac scone ($6) was delicious--delicately potent orange flavor; crunchy sugar and crisp, buttery sides; and a thick, crumbly interior. The maple cardamom latte ($6.50) also did not disappoint, althought there wasn't much maple coming through, the cardamom flavor was warm and strong--it's perfect for a rainy day.

Yelp
The green salad with little gem, carrots, almonds, ricotta salata, etc. is my favorite salad in the neighborhood. (A note to poppy's: please, please, please do not cycle it out at the end of the season!)

Suzanne H.

Yelp
I was there yesterday to pick up some salads to go. I got 2 items with chicken. One chicken salad and one salad with sliced chicken. The chicken was fatty and grizzly in both dishes. Gross. I also got the beets and a green salad. The lids on these must not have been put on properly and both opened up And spilled over all the other items in the bag. FYI. I spent over $100 for a few salads and when I called the shop to let them know my experience they simply said sorry.

Yelp
Place is a waste of time. Phoney baloney. Go to Tutt for food or just go to the market.

Yelp
I had stopped in to grab a quick coffee here before my nail appointment. Coffee was good and staff was super nice and friendly. I had gotten my husband a chai latte and he said it was just ok. I'd love to stop in again and try some of the pastries as they did look quite good in the case.

Yelp
Poppy's is exactly the cafe I envisioned: a corner slice of heaven in beautiful Carroll Gardens. A little gem tucked away from the business of Court Street. The shoppe that knows the neighborhood and it's patrons. I Yelped this morning trying ti find a different place for a quick snack to take to a pre- movie at Cobble Hill Cinema. I had bookmarked Poppy's and decided to visit and take away something sweet or savory... One look at their biscuit egg sandwich and cardamom coffee cake had me really stumped as to what to try. I visited late @3:30 and the shop closes at 4. I scanned the pastry case and saw neither of what I was craving. The cardamom coffee cake was not in stock and won't be for awhile and there were no egg biscuit sandwich. They offered regular biscuits, ginger Bundt cake, chocolate cake and lemon poppyseed loaf. I opted for the loaf to go, I love anything lemon. I walked the small but quaint shop and noticed they sell wine and other home goods. Poppy's mission is to create simple, beautiful and approachable food. They also provide catering as well as wait staff services. I can certainly see these services doing quite well in this neighborhood as well as Brooklyn Heights. This is a lovely shop to sit, enjoy high quality food. I can see coming here on a snowy day and enjoying something savory and sweet. As for my lemon poppyseed loaf: the texture was moist, lemony/buttery flavor and I think a hint of sea salt on the loaf ends. I enjoyed it happily as I watched, I kid you not, The Menu.

Yelp
I've only had great experiences at Poppys. I always go out of my way to visit but this last trip has me scratching my head. I ordered 3 pastries and a salad and coffee. $45 total and the salad was a huge miss. Half of it was inedible greens. Completely wilted and the end of the bunch. This was lazy on whoever put the salad together. The pastries were good.

Yelp
I visited Poppy's for the first time this weekend. One of my good friends lives in Cobble Hill around the corner and always talks about how amazing their breakfast biscuits are. We waited in line for about 10 minutes because they only allow four people inside the bakery at once. We ordered a couple of iced lattes, one bacon jam breakfast biscuit, and the brioche setup with spicy tomato (but in a biscuit). We sat outside at one of their covered outdoor picnic tables, and it was a really nice ambiance! Would definitely recommend eating there if you're interested in outdoor dining for a quick / casual moment. The bacon jam was the clear winner between the two. It came with lettuce on it, but I think it could've used some lighter greens. The biscuit itself was perfection - flakey, fluffy, and a lot of height. The iced lattes were also delish! Will for sure be back to Poppy's for more biscuits and pastries from their weekly selection.

Alice G.

Yelp
Poppy's takeout cafe is such a wonderful neighborhood gem. Their baked goods, sandwiches, coffees and teas, roast chicken, salads, and frozen goods (biscuits!) are always delish. And their staff are super helpful. I also love to meet a friend a sit outside on a nice day there.

Yelp
Plan to wait in line if you're coming on the weekend. The almond milk latte was simple and delicious, especially paired with the lemon poppyseed loaf. The loaf was a little on the dry side for me. I prefer a lemon loaf that is less crumble and more moisture (I know, I'm being pretentious). I consider myself a chocolate chip cookie connoisseur, and this one was good but I give it an 8/10. The edges were a little crispy, and the chocolate used wasn't that rich in flavor. Take that with a grain of salt though, because it's all about your personal preference. My friend got the biscuit breakfast sandwich. The flavor was on point. But the ratio of filling to biscuit was pretty off. Although the biscuit is ridiculously tasty, a bit more egg, greens, and prosciutto would have been appreciated. No denying the fact that it was still satisfying. The service was amazing, everyone was so friendly and very efficient. I would definitely be back if I was in the neighborhood, but wouldn't go out of my way to get here.

Yelp
poppy's is a woman-owned business that I love supporting! It's a beautiful cafe that offers a variety of things including my absolute favorite pastry - the cardamom pecan coffee cake. It's absolutely delicious, fresh, and crunchy. Try it if you haven't the next time you stop by. There are plenty of breakfast, lunch items, and drinks to pick from. I had a salad from poppy's that was underwhelming and expensive but there are other items that intrigue me that I will go back for - the chicken sandwich and the biscuits. They offer catering for events as well. I've had their lattes which are bold and only wish they offered vanilla syrups for a touch of sweetness. The service here is always welcoming which is why I'll always stop by for a treat or two. #supportsmallbusiness

Yelp
Such a lovely spot! Picked up catering and everything was ready early! Staff was lovely! The food was beyond. Such a creative and cool spot, and I cannot wait to come back!
google avatar

Vanessa L.

Yelp
The coffee is sooo good! Must try their latte with oat milk. Not a big fan of the coffee cake though.
google avatar

Jen L.

Yelp
Got two of their sea salt chocolate chip cookies and honestly one of the best I've ever had! The texture was perfectly crisp on the outside with a tender, soft interior. The sea salt was also perfectly balanced against the chocolate chip cookie itself. I liked that the chocolate chips weren't super sweet and the cookie itself wasn't too overwhelming to eat.

Samantha L.

Yelp
I went here several times over a few weeks and got the same drink (iced card. maple latte) multiple times. Each time, it was made differently. It was not consistent. The hot version was not good at all - at least the one I had. I had the coffee cake which was pretty good but with so many bakeries around, would go elsewhere since they are more expensive than other places. If you go, it will be a toss up on if the drink comes out well or not. Super cute place and wanted to love it but didn't.
google avatar

Kailey C.

Yelp
Wonderful neighborhood spot! Love that they have super fresh everything - breakfast, brunch, and lunch items to order, lots of to-go's in the fridges, refreshing drinks, pantry staples, home goods, and some fresh market produce, and of course awesome baked goods. Minus one star because of the cost. Absolutely love the breakfast sandwiches on the weekends, but $12 is bit much for a BEC, even if it is classed up with chili sauce, some microgreens, and mint. They also sometimes partner with a local CSA farmshare which I'd highly recommend trying - especially since it's a rare single-purchase program, rather than a seasonal subscription. Bit of a wait usually on the weekends or in the mornings, and the items to-order can take a bit to make.

Caitlin W.

Yelp
Delicious tea lattes, beautiful front patio space to linger and incredibly friendly team!
google avatar

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! I love their Lemon Poppy Loaf + Cold Brew. My favorite weekend stop!
google avatar

Elizabeth K.

Yelp
I love Poppy's. That's the tweet. Everything is amazing. There's a reason why there's always a line. Coffee is great, sandwiches are great, the egg salad, chicken salad, hummus, whipped ricotta, baked goods etc. Things sell out though, keep in mind :)
google avatar

Tracy S.

Yelp
I really enjoyed this cute cafe! There's general a line but I would say it goes by fast. They are following covid safety guidelines and they allow their customers to use the bathroom (so nice during these times)! Outdoor seating areas and take out. Had their frittata (so good that I must come back again) and their market salad box (they have protein ones too). Their baked goods I had the pumpkin ricotta muffin and buttermilk scone with strawberry jam. I also like the way they made their matcha, it's light and good blend of matcha flavor! Coming back again and worth spending time in line for!

Catalina G.

Yelp
Yummy! Great service, cute ambiance with only outdoor seating. Lemon poppy seed loaf was to dir for. Coffee + loaf $14
google avatar

Anna G.

Yelp
Love poppy's. Had them cater for my baby shower which I held outdoors on a rooftop and everything was excellent and seamless. I ordered about 2 weeks in advance and set a window for a pick up time (they also deliver but for a fee). Everything was ready when my husband arrived. Was packaged beautifully, and everything was so good + more importantly held up super well despite sitting out for a few hours. I will definitely be using them for catering again. Also, on Friday and weekends, they have the best breakfast sandwich available in the store.
google avatar

Amy T.

Yelp
Breakfast pastries on POINT! Saw some patrons munching on plated hot breakfast items outside which looked pretty good too. Super cute establishment nestled in the neighborhood, even the dog sitting outside was smiling. Everything's on display as soon as you walk in and everything I tried was pretty tasty. I especially liked the galette. The two kiddos in our pack are obsessed with the fritters- kinda like donut holes but fancy. Probably worth trying a little bit of everything if you swing by!

H F.

Yelp
The breakfast sandwich is good. The friend chicken is cold. They won't heat it up. The staff is entitled and rude. I'd go back for the food, but not the rude 'tude.
google avatar

Joseph P.

Yelp
My favorite coffee / breakfast spot in Brooklyn. Sitting outside on a sunny morning with an egg and biscuit sandwich or a seasonal frittata is pure magic. A black lab at our feet, friendly neighbors, young families and pleasant staff make the entire experience so pleasant. One disappointment is they are no longer offering their amazing "Overnight Oatmeal" -- please bring it back! Nonetheless, it's still the best little breakfast around.

Dean D.

Yelp
The cute atmosphere and pretty good pastries are not worth the snide, holier than thou attitude that this staff has. In February I had 4 friends staying with me from out of town and I was excited to show them this cute coffee shop near me. It was freezing cold rain on a Tuesday afternoon and we were excited for some hot coffee. When we entered the shop and were looking at the menu the woman working said "um I don't know what's going on here but only 4 people in the shop at once." Everyone was masked, no one else was there, and I had to go stand in the freezing rain by myself for 5 minutes while she made their drinks. My friends were shocked by this and it was such a shitty way to start off their trip. The other day I bought a cinnamon roll from them after not knowing the price. When she turned the iPad around it was $8.50 for a small cinnamon roll that wasn't even great! I guess I should expect that from the area but still... It's a beautiful day today and I was excited to get up and get some coffee on my morning walk. I waited in line (because of their 4 person rule ) and was holding my 4 pound chihuahua who doesn't walk on the ground and is virtually non existent. The woman without hesitation screamed, "I'm sorry no dogs!!!" I was shocked because there was no sign and also there's a difference when It comes to dogs. I understand a big wet dog but me holding my little dog wearing a $40 sweatshirt isn't that. Also I'm not going to tie him up outside so I can get a $6 coffee. This place is cute and it's in a good location because there's not much else around but like I said, they take their jobs extremely too seriously here. At the end of the day it's a coffee shop and I feel like every time I'm there I brace myself for an unpleasant experience. Henry Local is so much friendlier and pleasant!
google avatar

Kristen V.

Yelp
Poppy's is the perfect local spot to grab a delicious quick breakfast and a coffee! The most difficult part of the experience was deciding what to order. I ended up getting a pear/ chai scone and the frittata which were both extremely delicious. I think the frittata could have been a larger portion size but still good. My friend went for the ultimate egg breakfast sandwich on a colossal biscuit. Overall I was extremely pleased with the quality of the ingredients and I will certainly be back!
google avatar

Abby S.

Yelp
I almost feel like I visited a different place than all the other reviewers since that was the worst iced coffee I've ever had. I got an iced coffee recently and it was so watered down, it tasted like when you drink all of the coffee in a cup and you are just drinking the melted ice at the bottom. The pastries were also kind of a disappointment. Lastly, really overpriced for what you're getting.
google avatar

Nathaniel F.

Yelp
They do an amazing an breakfast. Their coffee and baked goods are excellent (especially the buttermilk biscuit and the poppyseed loaf). Get there early on the weekends for a biscuit egg sandwich, it's worth the line.
google avatar

Nico C.

Yelp
A series of very good pastries and food. I highly recommend the popka (their take on a babka) - sweet and gritty and chocolatey! Chocolate chip cookie also good. The salmon tartine was tasty although there was a bit too much cream for my liking. I will be back!
google avatar

Bil M.

Yelp
I love Poppy's! I love the catering, the cafe, the food and the staff. Happy to have a crew like you in New York! :)

Paula Jean K.

Yelp
We popped in here for some sweets and caffeine after a big lunch down the road a piece. We loved the sea salt chocolate chip cookies and the chocolate cinnamon sugar popkas, but the hot matcha and hot colombe coffee was awful. Perhaps we came near closing time and the drinks weren't fresh or were made hastily, who knows? But, we would still come back for dessert.

Archana D.

Yelp
Catering review: learned about Poppy's from another catering company that couldn't accommodate us. So that word of mouth already set me at ease. I used Poppy's catering to celebrate my 1 year old's birthday. We got a bunch of platters, kabobs, and we even went with Poppy's for the birthday cake. We got rave reviews on everything. The platters were beautiful and delicious. My guests were full and happy. I don't leave reviews but the experience compelled me to do so here. 100% recommend for your next party or event.

Yelp
Great coffee/sandwich/sweet treat shop. Lovely service. Delightful outside seating. All our coffee and tea selections were excellent.

Yelp
My go to's are the egg galette and the buttermilk biscuit. Whoever is working in the kitchen is a magician.

Yelp
Everyone there is so friendly, their treats are divine and my coffee was delicious. Try the pistachio milk in your latte! Beautiful farm flowers too.

Yelp
I am sitting here eating a biscuit and the raspberry jam and I just need to take this moment to write a short love note to you. Poppy's: you are perfect. I miss being inside you, but it's okay, I understand...times have changed. You're still there for me when I need it most- under-caffeinated after an all-nighter, as I ravenously purchase three (...reader, I must admit, four) items for myself alone. I hide them in the kitchen so my partner doesn't suspect anything- so I don't have to share. I hope you can make it through this trying time! Just know I always think of you fondly... missing your cozy interior and its austere, understated beauty. And most of all your tenacious grit(s).

Conni M.

Yelp
Everything I have ordered here, has exceeded my expectations and become the new favorite. Most memorable are the ricotta with honey, biscuits and breakfast galette. Service is consistently kind, patient and helpful. Folks never crowd the store, so there's never more than 2 people trying to decide what to order.

Patricia C.

Yelp
I got in to ask for a cup of water for my dog. I also wanted a coffee. Door was open . The woman told me to leave and that they had no water, the place was "closed". And she was talking to her aunt on the phone.

Yelp
We just used Poppys' for my daughter's bat mitzvah picnic and EVERYONE raved about the food. They set up covid friendly picnic boxes (including ones for the kids), individually wrapped flatbread pizza and utensils. The pizzas were to die for and the food was fantastic. Plus they were super flexible about some guests' dietary restrictions and were able to deliver to BBP where the party was. Jamie and Casey were amazing. I can't say enough good things about them and will definitely use them for my next event!

Asli P.

Yelp
I like their coffees, daily menus and CAKES! Poppy seed cake and tahini chocolate cake are my faves!!

Corey B.

Yelp
We hired Poppy's to cater our wedding and it was incredible from start to finish. The food was delicious, the staff was professional and so accommodating. We were blown away by the experience and would recommend them to all couples in the area.
