Best Bars in Philadelphia | Eater Philly

"Located in East Kensington, Post Haste is an eclectic cocktail bar with a passion for farm-sourced ingredients and nationally acclaimed bartending. Here, one can order a boozy blueberry “sno cone” cocktail that’s made with a PA rum blend, Laird’s Jersey Lightning, West 32 Soju, blueberry agrodolce, and lemon verbena." - Tierney Plumb

Post Haste - Review - Kensington - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"Post Haste in Kensington is all about experimentation. There’s a smashed Phillies trashcan on the wall hung up like artwork, a stove that the Little Women probably cooked in holding flowers, and martinis with a cherry tomato brine. Inside the moody space, the music gets cranked to side-stage at Made In America levels, and the drinks are booze heavy. You won’t find many places blending chimichurri-infused vodka, toasted rice, or lemongrass syrup into their specials, making it a fun place to start your night with a cheese board and an acid cranberry Cosmo or end it on their lounge chair in the back." - Candis R. Google
Great cocktails and food and super fun vibe. Stopped here with friends. Cocktails were delicious and very unique. Starters like the fried pickled asparagus and the pimento cheese were delicious. Awesome hot dogs and boardwalk fries. Friendly staff and bartenders and great music.

Great lighting bringing the good vibes. Killer playlist. Friendly staff. Not pretentious, but a touch of class. Unique drinks. All sourced from the east coast! Putting this spot into regular rotation. Well done.

I want to thank our amazing server Sean for an amazing time. We came to Philadelphia looking for a great place for unique drinks and food and this exceeded our expectations!!! Gabriel also gave us the history of the bar's warm and inviting architecture. I definitely recommend and will come back soon!!!

My husband and I had the pleasure of dining here about two weeks ago. We had the most incredibly accommodating and sweetest server which I always believe adds to the experience. I was sad to see that we were the only ones in there on a Friday at 8 PM. Their menu is not extensive for food, but we had half of the items and the flavors were so interesting, but my husband and I like innovative (vinegary/tangy) flavors. The cocktails were off the hook and equally complex. I very much look forward to returning soon.

This place is a true gem! I love the hyper local concept, ingredients all being sourced from the region. What really stands out is the creativity in cocktail design. Aside from delicious staples, the folks here make truly imaginative drinks that will tickle your taste buds. Bartenders were knowledgeable and super helpful. The food was great too. Will definitely be stopping by regularly ☺️

My second time to Post Haste and it was such a delight both times. The cocktails are so unique and thoughtful and visually beautiful. The food is also prepared with such love and attention to detail. The textures of the gnocchi and tile fish were perfect. The Philly beignets were unique and delicious. It’s also worth saying that the ambiance is lovely. The music is on point, the lighting is perfect, and the decor completely matches the vibe. I’ll definitely be back many times and bringing friends. I drove there from West Philly and it’s worth it!

Verdict: Recommended Really good vibe and ambiance, the service is really good and the servers are great. The drinks were really good. I had both the manhattan and the old fashioned and was quite nice. We had the Beignets and the Maitake fried steak for starters which were both really good and hefty portions. Cooked quite well and very tasty. The ham sammy’s were great too. Had a small hiccup with the duck breast, the fat was not rendered and the skin was quite gummy. I did ask the waiter if it was meant to be that way and he said the skin should be crispy so we returned it. Got another version of the duck but was still, unfortunately the same. The rest of the dish was actually good, it’s just unfortunate that the fat and the skin were really gummy in both iterations I received. They did compensate with a complimentary vegan creme brulee with concord grape jelly on top which was, to be honest, not really good. Overall, despite everything, would still recommend this place for good food, great drinks and the cool ambiance.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 This is my absolute favorite neighborhood bar. The cocktails here are top-notch — not just well made, but surprisingly creative in their flavor combinations. The space is cozy, welcoming, and makes you feel like you’ve just stepped into someone’s stylish living room. It’s the kind of place where you instantly feel at home. It’s a shame it’s a bit tucked away from the main Fishtown traffic — not the kind of bar you stumble into by chance — but maybe that’s part of its charm. A hidden gem that locals know and love. 💎🍸

Yelp
Vegetarian Heaven! Me and my finance went to post haste on a busy Friday night. I love when a place can deliver on vegetarian items on the menu. Everything was spectacular. I had the charred carrots, salad , and fried mushroom dish. 10/10 everything was amazing! My partner had the duck and he left his plate completely clean! This place is one of my favorite additions to the neighborhood. Will continue to frequent this business.

Yelp
Grabbed some seats at the bar for happy hour. The vibe truly escapes me but I'm not mad about it. Did I understand the music choices? No, but again, into it. The happy hour deals themselves are fine. There are 3 drink choices, none of which I was super interested in so went with a non HH beer instead. The names of the non HH cocktails are worth a read and clearly really thought out. We went with both HH apps: the corn ribs and the white fish dip. The former was pretty good- I don't LOVE corn but the dipping sauce was nice and it was pretty well executed. The latter was much better. Nice chunks of meat with really great homemade chips. We also got the beignets which were the highlight: the melted cheese was excellent and was an addition I wouldn't have expected. The pulled pork and the cauliflower were sort of unnecessary here but still really nice. Service was great. Everyone was super friendly. The prices for HH were fine, a BIT on the pricier side and the actual non-HH menu itself was also fairly pricey. Not sure I would necessarily feel the need to come for non-bar food. Really laid back fun atmosphere.

Yelp
This spot has a great ambiance, making it a nice place to relax and enjoy a drink. However, the food could use some improvement. The fries were underwhelming, with a watery cheese sauce that didn't add much flavor, and the texture was disappointingly cardboard-like. The gnocchi were overly soft, lacking the ideal bite. As for the steak, the cut was quite fatty, which made it less enjoyable. With some refinements to the menu, this place has the potential to be a fantastic dining destination.

Yelp
I love coming here. It always has really good music playing and their vibe is so cozy! I hate the partition that they added, separating the dining room from the bar area thou (that needs to be removed. Better vibe without). Then unfortunately, we're out of the gnocchi when we went and we got the veggie dish as a back up, which wasn't our favorite, but the steak was delicious!

Yelp
We had a great meal at Post Haste, and would definitely recommend as one of the more unique and fun restaurants in the East Kensington/Fishtown area. We had a 4 top reservation, and were seated at on their high top tables, but you'll notice they have a sizeable bar there where you can also eat. A lot of people were coming in and just sitting there without reservations, so it's good to know you can have some flexibility there. Their drink and good menus are both adventurous and creative. A really cool feature of their bar is that they have a farm-to-glass beverage philosophy, where the menu exclusively features spirits, beers, wines, citrus, herbs, produce and mixers from the Eastern United States. Nothing imported means they are supporting local and care about reducing their carbon footprint. I had their Farmer's Dirty Martini, which was served with a Cherry Tomato Brine...oh my word, hands down one the best dirty martinis I have ever had! Their food menu is split between small shares, large shares, and entrees. It is nice to get some variety in the dishes and portion sizes, but you'll also see that the menu has some serious RANGE. Where else can you go and either get a ham sandwich or duck breast? I personally felt like they successfully married some traditional bar classics and offers that are a bit more elevated. I had the Crescent Duck Breast, which was served with wheat berry tabouli, roasted baby carrot, za'atar, duck veloute, and a red wine reduction. This dish was stellar, one of the best duck platings I have ever had. We also shared the Philly Beignets and Grilled Maitake. Both were pretty filling, and would highly suggest trying both. The beignet concept is something I have never seen before, and served with their roast pork & fondue, every bite you take is just a burst of flavor and homage to a classic Philly staple. Also, their desserts...how would you react if you saw a "Bacon, Egg, and Cheesecake" on the menu? Some might shy away, but we just had to try it, and it was so good! Whipped cream cheese gave it that rich texture and flavor, but the bacon was candied and crumbled on top with shaved cured egg yolk, which gave it this incredible salty compliment. They emphasize the name of their bar as a place to come to and relax after a busy day, and it certainly is that. It can get a little loud and tight, like any standard bar, so just keep that in mind. Service is good, not great, but between the food, drinks, and general atmosphere, you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
I'd heard the buzz about Post Haste, but after talking with a staff member at another local bar, I made it a priority to go. We made a reservation before we left that other bar and went days later. The focus on local and sustainable ingredients is great. They really follow through. That makes their menu unique. It's also quite delicious. The Philly beignets were great. The carrot foam was fun. The salad was hearty and delicious. Ingredients pop up in various dishes, as they "repurpose" peels and extra bits, as I assume they did with the mushroom tart and carrot foam that came with the beignets. (They have a mushroom dish on the menu as well.) Cocktails were balanced and tasty, with local-ish ingredients. No piña coladas here, but you won't miss them. My acorn squash entree was interesting and flavorful and had a variety of textures. It was a bit salty for my taste, but still was the most interesting thing we tried. They place has style, too. It's mid-century meets cozy cabin? Hard to describe. You should come see it firsthand.

Yelp
Just opened this week! I've been waiting for this business to open for so long! Co-owner, Gabriel has done an excellent job. From eclectic craft cocktails to locally sourced food, wines and beers, Post Haste will welcome you with open arms. I love the decor. Dimly lit, brick walls and repurposed Atlantic City boardwalk decking used on the ceiling. Plenty of room at the well stocked bar. Lots of interesting art, especially the "junkyard" art. Check it out when you come in. Gabriel and his team have worked very hard to put together a unique place for drinks, food, and an overall happy experience in this up and coming neighbourhood. Check out my pictures! Everything was amazing! I'm totally thrilled and I can't wait to come back again and again!

Yelp
First off let me say that I love the ambience, the amazing bar, and the friendly and attentive service. That being said, I feel that this restaurant is trying too hard with its food and cocktails. Their take on a Dirty Martini had tomato brine instead of olive juice. This just was not good and overly briny. My next cocktail was their take on a Negroni. I love bitter cocktails and aperitifs, but this was way too heavy on the bitter amaro for me as a Negroni and could have used an orange peel garnish. The cheese board appetizer was decent, but the chefs selection appetizer that included a mushroom tart, croissants, and a carrot sorbet was not good at all. The mushroom tart was dense and bland, the croissants were more like crescent rolls, and the sorbet was meh and more like carrot flavored ice crystals. The ingredients seemed fresh and locally sourced, but in my opinion, exceptional food is fresh food simply and expertly prepared.

Yelp
Treat this like a bar The food was mediocre* The drinks were so good** *mediocre is generous. The food was flavorless and physically tough to eat **the old fashioned was delicious, as was the pearnacillin

Yelp
I've been in a few times since they opened and am finally getting around to writing a review- I'm SO HAPPY to have this place in the neighborhood. After waiting so long to see what would happen with this space it's surpassed my expectations! The cocktails are definitely the showstopper here. Everything is sourced locally, so they use lots of ingredients I'm less familiar with, but the bartenders are all very knowledgeable and happy to explain everything on the menu- or give you a taste of something you're unsure about! The "juiciest fruit" may be one of my favorite drinks of all time, and I'm not typically a rum drinker, it's just that excellent. The "cherry bomb" and "gritty city" are two other favorites, they're truly unlike any other cocktails I've had in the city. The food is also delicious, the menu is different each time I go, using seasonal ingredients, and I always find something new that I'm excited about. The servers are also very friendly and know so much about where everything in the dishes comes from! I've loved their seafood dishes, highly recommended the grilled oysters for the table, and the sea bass and duck entrees are also incredible. Also, they have some of my favorite fries in Philly- get both dipping sauces! Like I said, I'm so happy to have a spot like this in the neighborhood, it's perfect for a meal with friends, date night, or a nice long bar hang to try as many cocktails as you can. :) So ready to be a regular!

Yelp
There simply are not enough words to describe how excited I was that Post Haste was opening and it most certainly lived up to my hopes and dreams. Gorgeous and cozy on the inside, it feels like walking through a hometown bar to get to your cool aunt's living room. Once you are seated, you are regaled by an incredible seasonal menu that could cause any foodie or localvore to sweat. The cocktails are playful, imaginative and mind boggling plays on classics and new drinks alike. The sharable plates beg you to return again and again in order to taste them all and the entrees, well hopefully you saved room. By the time I arrived at 6:30pm on opening night several dishes were already sold out for the night (oh noooo I have to go back for beignets and gnocchi oh nooooo) but that only helped us narrow down the seasonal delights. Admittedly we went too far in our enthusiasm but everything we sampled was delightful. To start; Sweet Amalia oysters were accompanied with a rhubarb mignonette, radish rilletes which were buttery and stunning, and a scallop crudo with strawberries that tasted like the beach. Our entrees were maybe my *favorite* cooked fish dish I have ever had, the Tilefish and the signature house Ham Sandwich which was just plain ethereal. Ham is something I would never consider a light meat but my gods, they are doing something crazy with a classic. Everything is wonderful, wildly affordable for the quality and just awe inspiring. Oh! The service! This is a crew of folks who know what they are doing and serve with a knowledgeable cheekiness that is instantly endearing. We had Mikayla (sorry about the spelling?) as our guiding food and drink wizard and every interaction was just lovely. The whole operation is a well oiled piece of teamwork and a joy to be surrounded by. Thank you Post Haste. We will be back again and again and again.

Yelp
It shows how much the area is changing that an establishment like Post Haste can exist where it does. The space is much larger than I anticipated and while it wasn't completely full it was very close to it. This was my first time here and I will undoubtedly return. Everything is locally sourced within 600 miles so you might miss out on some favorites but it's a great experience nonetheless. The service was exceptional and everyone was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. We started off with some cocktails and a cheese board. The cocktails were appropriately priced for the quality and the cheese board was mostly well thought out. My only critique is that it was served with soft bread instead of crackers or something with a crunch to compliment the softness of the cheese. I also got the sea bass and it was fantastic. Everything about it was perfect. Overall, this is a wonderful new restaurant / cocktail bar and I look forward to seeing the menu change and grow and hope it has an opportunity to flourish here.

Yelp
5 stars for drinks, 5 stars service, and 4 stars food. I see this place as a cool cocktail bar you snack at with your friends or date(s - I won't judge). The drinks: the drinks are really good. The rosemary smoke in the Pearnicillin is dope and I've never been more impressed with a mocktail like Orange Youse a Carrot. Carrot juice concoction with a thyme foam that left a nice aftertaste. It was a fun orange cream soda vibe with carrot cosplay. You could come back for cocktails and vibes alone and not be disappointed. The food: It's not five stars for me but it doesn't mean it can't be five stars for you. Also four stars is still pretty good ok! The good is that there is a really good sourcing ethos. The interesting is paring strawberry with scallop and it being my favorite dish because it was delicate and light in all the fresh and seasonal ways. The sweetness and acidity of the strawberry was unexpected with the fat/creaminess and saltiness of the scallop. If you're into super bold flavors, maybe not your place. If you want interesting and more subdued then try. I reserve the right to reassess. So anyway I guess you better make haste to the bar ha .. ha .. ha.. no, but really it's that good.

Yelp
Came for dinner on a Thursday evening. The vibes and place were super good. We got mocktails and they were good! The food was okay. The yuzu ceviche was good! I enjoyed it. The fries was pretty good. The beignets were a lot of bread to it. It was alright when putting the toppings together. But the balance wasn't there.

Yelp
Can't say enough about the great food and cocktails. Super original cocktails, food made with love and attention to detail with great textures, flavors and presentation. Lighting and music and decor is perfect. Staff is kind and seem passionate about how Post Haste is sourcing food and spirits as locally as possible-- east of the Mississippi. I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
This place is "dope", the food, the decor, the service and the ambiance are great! Funny fact is I loved the music and I was literally telling my wife I want this playlist lol. The food was great. Special highlights were the beet salad, cheese board and the Seabass. I would definitely check this place out again.

Yelp
Went last weekend for the first time and it was amazing! Truly lived up to the anticipation and past reviews. The owners and chef have designed a friendly, creative and eclectic menu for both food and bar using only ingredients that have traveled under 600 miles and the servers are very well informed about the sourcing/ preparation of all ingredients adding to the fun of the dining experience. We had several appetizers -- favorites were the "chef special" which was petit house croissants served with a beautiful mushroom tart and herbed butter -- we also loved the chicken mousse on house made savory waffles. My daughter is a cheesy pasta enthusiast who loved the goat cheese gnocchi which was creative and delicious. There was also a special ceviche that we couldn't resist which had just the right spice level and included all kinds of local seafood. Everything we had was unique and delicious and while we barely had room for entrees we shared the duck breast main course that included wheat berries and roasted baby carrots -- perfect for fall! I also tried the local chardonnay which was wonderful and many at the table enjoyed the carefully crafted cocktails that will change seasonally with whatever is being harvested. A table favorite was the "cherry bomb" that has local bourbon and a house made local smoked cherry syrup. If you're looking for unique drinking and dining experience that will rotate new offers each visit be sure to check out this new magical spot! Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Ambiance was great. Love how they revitalized this old building with the wooden ceiling, added seating near the old fire place, and the bar area is wonderful. Service could be something to be improved. Waiter didn't really check up on us and brought us the check without us asking. Felt a little rushed. But new staff could just mean they're adjusting. Cocktails were the highlights. Good amount of classics and creative, bold twist on other classics. I head the Pearnicillin and my partner had the Aperol Spritz. Both wonderfully made cocktails. The additional fruit flavors in the Pearnicillin made it interesting but still had it's traditional roots. The spritz was good as well with a hint of basil to slightly elevate it and make it unique. Food was ok. Granted we only had two items and they're menu is pretty big. Seafood focused, a rarity in this area, with locally sourced ingredients. Love how they show you where everything comes from. The cheese board was good. One gripe about it was the bread they had on there seemed like an after thought. If you're going to give us fancy cheeses and sides, at least toast the bread. Typically you would see different breads/crackers. We also had the strawberry scallops. I can see where others would like this, but the strawberry for us overpowered the scallop. If you're going to be a seafood forward menu, highlight the seafood not the strawberry. But still very fresh ingredients which we appreciate. Would still come back to Post Haste as there is still lots of items to explore on the menu in a wonderfully designed space in East Kensington area.

Yelp
Wow. I'm simply blown away by the quality and dining experience they've created here. I was excited to see an upscale dining and cocktails option open in East Kensington. Their menu looked promising and I finally made it in on a Sunday evening. It wasn't too busy - the bar was packed but otherwise it was easy to get a table. The service experience is top-notch from start to finish. The server was very clearly trained in being present and attentive without being intrusive. The food, cocktails, and wine are the real standouts. Items are locally sourced and everything we had was delicious. The goat cheese gnocchi, polenta with duck, and the local cheese board are all amazing. I'm not a huge wine person but my partner was very impressed. I'd also recommend their take on the Negroni... it's a fresh approach and mellows that bitter bite that most people don't like. I can't wait to go back and explore more of the menu!

Carolyn C.

Yelp
The cocktails were fantastic! I really enjoyed their take on Philly style beignets! Really nice ambiance with tasteful decor and the bartender was super nice and helpful!

Sarah H.

Yelp
I mean, they play The Cure and Tony the bartender is looovely and the vegetable side is ughh good. What more?

Avinash R.

Yelp
Excellent food, great ambiance, and superb service. The drinks are delicious! I loved the "Sippin' The Tea" cocktail. The Tile fish was a delight and the gnocchi was superb

Alexander R.

Yelp
It was such a pleasure to visit Post Haste! The drinks were creative, thought-provoking, and delicious. All of my dishes were excellent! The service was the right balance of friendly, casual, and knowledgeable. I loved the restaurants embrace for sustainable practices and all of the vegeterian and vegan options they offered. You'll have a fun night at Post Haste, without a doubt.

David W.

Yelp
Had a great dinner here! Staff was warm and inviting, service was great, and the food was delicious. We shared the 80s baby salad, sea bass, and carrot cake dessert. All of them were excellent. The cocktails were really fun - very complex, so much going on, super interesting. Will definitely be back.

Jeanne C.

Yelp
The food and drinks were great. The signature dish of the beignet felt disconnected from the lightness of the rest of the dishes. For the meat lovers, would probably recommend a burger of sorts. Obsessed with the cabbage cutlet.
