The 18 Best Restaurants In Hammersmith - London - The Infatuation

"When you come to Potli for dinner, know that hefty butter chicken samosas and big round booths are on the agenda. This friendly Hammersmith restaurant is all bold flavours and lazy susans. Inspired by Indian markets, the walls are painted in bright colours and you’ll find a tuk tuk in the dining room. Big groups happily pile in, ordering poppadoms before even knowing what’s on the menu. There are classics like tandoori chicken, as well as dishes you’re less likely to find in London, like Portuguese-influenced wild boar vindaloo." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, rianne shlebak, sinead cranna

Potli - Review - Hammersmith - London - The Infatuation

"When you come to Potli for dinner, know that hefty butter chicken samosas and big round booths are on the agenda. This friendly Hammersmith restaurant is old-school in flavour, but inventive in its dishes. Inspired by Indian markets, the walls are painted in bright colours and you’ll find a full-on tuk tuk in the dining room. Big groups happily pile into the booths, ordering poppadoms before even knowing what’s on the menu. And while that includes classics like tandoori chicken, it also has things you’re less likely to find everywhere, like citrussy pani puri or a Portuguese-influenced wild boar vindaloo. Come for a casual catch-up during the week if you’re in a group, or for a great-value bottomless Sunday lunch. Just make sure you try the butter chicken samosas. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Pause Unmute Food Rundown Butter Chicken Samosa The thick outer coating of this samosa is perfectly crisp, and it’s generously filled with chunks of butter chicken. Fabulous food and great service from the lovely Ankit. Their use of fresh ingredients makes all the difference. Authentic Indian flavours. And great value lunch menu. We can't wait to come back. We have a new Indian regular!

I and my partner recently dined at Potli, Hammersmith and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The moment we stepped inside, we were greeted by the warm and inviting ambiance that beautifully captures the essence of India. The decor, with its vibrant colors and traditional elements, instantly transported us to the heart of the country. The food was nothing short of extraordinary. Each dish was a perfect harmony of spices and flavors, showcasing the rich culinary heritage of India , every bite was a delightful journey for the taste buds. What truly set this restaurant apart, though, was the incredibly friendly and attentive staff. They went above and beyond to ensure we had a memorable dining experience. Overall, the restaurant is a must-visit for anyone seeking authentic Indian cuisine served with genuine hospitality. Highly recommended!

Excellent dishes, good value for money. We ordered two set lunches on a weekday which included starters and mains accompanied by naan and rice.

I LOVE this place. I’ve been a few times now and it never disappoints. The service is warming, friendly and impeccably professional each time. The food is packed with so much flavour and is, in my opinion, some of the best Indian food in London. Naan bread is without a doubt the best I’ve ever had. Pricing is also extremely reasonable, they have a lunchtime set menu which is great. We bring everyone who comes to visit us in London here and you should too.

Google
One of my very favourite restaurants in London. Exceptional cooking and flavours, great atmosphere and the service is fantastic. Hard pushed to find a better example of fantastic Indian cooking in London. Highly recommend.

Google
Absolutely fantastic, Michelin recommended and it shows in quality and service. We had the boar vindaloo and railway mutton curry and both were fantastic. That said the mutton wasn't actually mutton but rather lamb chunks. Still delicious. I can't say enough how good the service is, staff is quick and professional while still seeming at ease and friendly. Definitely would recommend to a friend.

One of the best Indian meals I’ve had in London. Must recommend: Odia prawn curry (I’m an Odia from India so trust me, it’s worth it!!), mutton curry (possibly only one of the few places in London to serve Goat and not old lamb as it is like back home), paneer curry, paan ice cream Every single item had so much thought put in, it’s in the league of one of the best Indian restaurants. The owner is one of the warmest people I’ve come across in London. It’s a bit of a walk down from Hammersmith station but it’s so worth it!!

Authentic Taste! Great options on the menu. Food is flavourful and true to Indian taste. The pricing is more like a fine dine but worth it for someone craving for Indian spices. The seating is a bit cozy and the place can be full on meal time and on weekends hence reservation is recommended. Overall a must try in West London!!

Yelp
This restaurant had great food and great staff. The waiter was attentive and made sure we got everything we needed. At one point the chef came out and asked every table how the food was and to answer any questions. We had a number of dishes to share around our group, my personal favourite was the lamb coconut fry. What made this better was a decent Indian white wine we swallowed throughout the meal. Would recommend and giving it 4 stars until I go back and try different items on the menu. Then it's most likely a 5 star.

Yelp
From the Bel puri, chaat, to the vegetarian- lentils, eggplant, paneer. Everything was distinct and delicious. Can't wait to return!

Yelp
Potli is a winner - they have fantastic food and incredibly lovely staff. I especially enjoy coming in for their weekday lunch, which is excellent value.

Yelp
Absolutely loved this place.. It came highly recommended from foodie friends of mine and it definitely didn't disappoint.. I have pretty high expectations when it comes to Indian restaurants as I have grown up eating a lot of home cooked Indian food.. This was really authentic street food I would recommend the non Veg mix platter and the vegetarian paneer and spinach kofta(I am a massive meat eater and I actually much preferred this dish to the pork vindaloo).. Service was super friendly and efficient (even though they were absolutely packed). I would definitely book if you are planning to go on the weekend as I booked last minute on Saturday and the only tables left were at 9:30! Overall a fantastic authentic Indian restaurant and really chilled vibe.. Highly recommend it!

Yelp
So impressed with this place. Showed up on a Friday night without a booking and they fit us in. Staff was fabulous. So polite and friendly. Food is crazy good. Lamb samosas were lovely sachets of meat. The chutneys were fresh and brilliant mix of sweet and savoury. The sag paneer was one of the best I have had in the world. The chicken korma with saffron and green cardamom was a testament to the power and value of fresh spices used with a deft touch. My wife wanted chapati, which was not on the menu--they made 2 for her. If there was any issue, the food took a long time. Being American I made a slightly cheeky comment about the wait. After the food came and I tasted everything, I stopped the server and apologized for my earlier comment as the food was absolutely worth the wait.

Yelp
We wanted to like this place but didn't. We are looking for a go to Indian place local to us and we're hoping this could be it. The food is average. And set lunch at £15 pp gets you half portions. Staff is nice but we're not aware of 20% off offer which isn't a problem if the food was good.

Yelp
I don't know if this review is biased or not but I've been to potli twice and i pretty much cannot wait to go back again! The food is one of the best Indian food in London (which is really saying something). They have done an amazing job with the ambience and the drinks are also delicious. Pretty much one of mine and my boyfriends favorite place :) make a reservation though because it's quite small and even though it's in hammersmith, it's quite popular !

Yelp
Had a great dinner here. From the states, didn't want to leaven London with out some great Indian food and this fit the bill perfectly. Casual but excellent food. I even loved the vegetarian appetizer plate and I'm a huge meat eater. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Standing proudly at the top of king st, right next to another excellent local called Saigon Saigon, Potli makes things difficult for itself by being slap bang in the middle of a number of excellent local Indian restaurants. From the cheap as chips authentic veggie Sagar, to the rather swisher but just as friendly Indian zing, to the totally upmarket Zaika. And there are literally tens of very decent ones in between. In fact Zing is just 30 secs walk away and has built itself a fine reputation. So this place needs to be on it's mettle to last the course. And it is. A warm interior with comfy furniture and fixtures and fitting welcomes you, along with smiling patron and great aromas. A basket of popudums isn't your ubiquitous salty cardboard. It's a selection of delicate wafers with delicious spices and chutneys to ladle on. Great start and you know you're in for a treat. A couple of starters continued the good eating. Pani puri were delicate pockets of crisp filled with masala potato. Lamb chops were robustly spiced and burnt round the edges just like they should be. Tandoori chicken came without the orange disco glow usually associated with the dish. Instead it came like it does when made at home. Much paler, much more tender, much more subtle flavours. I could taste the chicken. result. for the mains the missus was in typically unadventurous mood and went for the chicken makhani, which is as they inform you basically chicken tikka masala. You will find a few of the old favourites on the menu but rest assured they aren't all made in the same single underground trough that supplies the whole of Brick Lane. I had a mutton curry on the bone. Bravely served exactly as stated and right up my street. The boy carried on gnawing at the lamb chops. The sauces were rich and the spices all held their place in the mouth instead of becoming a messy hotch poch. I would say, lovingly cooked. even expertly. The accompanying bread was light and full of taste. Stuffed solid, we asked for the bill, rejoiced that it was under £50 even though I had 2 beers (kingfisher on tap, Cobra in bottles) and rolled home like barrels, our mouths dancing with flavours well into the night. We passed Zing on the way back. It was full as usual. We wondered whether Potli might alleviate it of a few customers in future. Both places deserve their support. They are excellent.

Yelp
Whenever I go home to London, we get together for a family Indian take-out meal and Potli is the new unanimous favorite! We've been curry fans for many years being blessed with so many great curry houses in London and Potli is a new stand-out. It's always busy, the prices are fair for the amazing quality of food, and the flavors are absolutely divine. Try the trio of chicken tikkas or the wild boar vindaloo: you won't be disappointed. If I could gibe this place 10 stars for food and service I would!

Yelp
It's impossible to overstate how excellent the food was other than to say that the exotic young lady who served us, Marisol, was an even more enchanting experience. Her grace and guidance made our Indian foray into the exotic spices and cuisine all the more enjoyable. I only wish I lived here so that I may eat here more often. My pork vindaloo was exquisite...

Yelp
So Potli is the new Indian restaurant replacing the old Tandoori Knights which had a 1980's look about it. It's always good to see a restaurant busy and Potli looked like they were busy and everyone smiling away. We sat downstairs next to the Kitchen in full view. We received our starters that we did not order. We discussed having starters and then decided not too. This did not stop the waiter who ordered the starters we discussed and bought them to our table. As we had just come from the Askewine tasting event our eyes were now bigger than our stomachs. We kept the non ordered starters and it was a great idea to keep it. We had the 'mixed non vegetarian platter' that included chicken, lamb and fish. There were three different types of chicken, two that were boneless and a whole thigh and leg. This was marinated beautifully and tender. There was a lamb chop and masala fish which was cooked to perfection. The flash flaked off and was nicely spiced. We were happy with our starters. Our mains had arrived and ordered the Chicken Korma Awadhi which has tender pieces of chargrilled chicken tikka in a smooth creamy gravy flavoured with green cardamom. The second dish was a Chicken Jhalfrezi a dish from Bengal, made of chicken tikka, peppers and green chilles cooked in light tomato sauce, flavoured with crushed coriander and lime. We would not have ordered so much chicken if we knew we were to have the starters. I had ordered Lamb Green Masala made with fresh coriander, mint, and green chillies and flavoured with fenugreek, lime and pomegranate seeds. I was not impressed with my dish and even though I have eaten a lot of lamb in my life this was the first time I was not impressed with a Lamb dish as it was watery and lacked spice and too much lime juice. The chicken dishes were good until we picked a stone out of the Chicken Jhalfrezi and yes it was a STONE. We called the manager who subsequently took the stone and had a huge row thereafter with the chef. Everyone was watching and this added a bit of amusement. My other half lost her appetite after pulling the stone from her mouth. The rice was good and the nan was good. The table next to us had waited an hour for the mains. They were such a polite couple who did not complain as much as me or my friends would have. They advised they will not be going back. I am not in hurry to go back however the first half of the night did start well.

Yelp
Food was amazing..price is reasonable being in London. We were amazed at the cheap price of drinks too. It's a bit of a walk from Hammersmith station but I would say it was worth it! We went on a Saturday night and it was fairly busy, I would recommend making a reservation for the weekend. Oh and it is a Michelin restaurant! :) will definitely be returning!
