Best Dishes Eater Editors Ate Last Week in the San Francisco Bay Area - Eater SF

"My parents came to hang out in the city last week and after gorging on two whole crabs and two orders of garlic noodles at PPQ Dungeness Island, we found ourselves craving something sweet to cap off the meal." - Eater Staff

PPQ Dungeness Island Plans Millbrae Location of Its Popular Crab Restaurant - Eater SF

"PPQ Dungeness Island is known for serving whole roasted crab, peppercorn crab, and chili crab with garlic noodles for almost two decades. The restaurant is expanding with a new location in Millbrae, taking over the former location of Hee Kee Seafood at 195 Camino Real. The new location will feature more crab tanks, an oyster bar, and will maintain the theme of the original location, including plastic palm trees and a thatched roof bar. Millbrae’s location will introduce new crab flavors like salted egg yolk and Cajun spice, and an expanded lunch menu, while keeping a similar menu to the original." - Ellen Fort

Google
Felt a bit pricey, but the cod and garlic noodles were phenomenal. I liked the fried tofu, but felt the batter could be lighter. The service was great and nothing took too long. The crab was good but not outstanding to me. Parking was really difficult on a weekday eve!

I came here to attend a birthday party and we were served, said and spring rolls for appetizers, then we got 3 dungeness crabs cooked 3 ways, pork and chicken BBQ, green beans and sea bass. Of course, the crabs and the sea bass were the stars at the table but the rest were also delicious. The staff were attentive and brought items that were requested right away. I definitely recommend this place.

Google
Ordered 1 lobster and 1 crab for 2 people. The stir fried black pepper lobster was very gold and quite enjoyed the green onions although a little on the small side. The chili crab, crab size was good but thought the chili crab would be like the Singaporean chili crab but instead it came deep fried with dry chili which I wasn't expecting. Crab was probably a little over cooked which made the meat a little dry and hard to extract and not as flavorful as I was expecting.

We ordered the crab for two and couldn't finish everything. Prepare to get messy cracking shells. They do provide all the necessary tools and a bib, though I'd recommend bringing disposable gloves. The crab and garlic noodles were delicious. Didn't care much for the salad, but it is on the sweet side, and the egg rolls were meaty. We also ordered the eggplant, and it was excellent. The only downside was the challenging parking situation.

Google
My favorite crab house, PPQ!! How long has it been since I started eating crab here? Probably over 10 years now! I started at the San Francisco location, but now I go to the Millbrae branch! It's so convenient with easy parking and a spacious, comfortable setting! When you’re here, it’s all about the crab! My top two dishes are the Peppercorn Crab and the Roasted Crab, and the Garlic Noodles are a must! The veggies and Shaking Beef are also really delicious!

Delicious crab for 2 makes a special meal and is worth a visit. I will return to try other dishes on the menu

Updated review 2/18/2022: Always good times at PPQ. We ran into one of our friends while dining here. It is very nice seeing old friends and enjoying a meal together. We had the peppercorn crab meal for two and added beers and calamari. The food and service was much better this time around. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Updated review 9/25/2021: Slow kitchen tonight. It took about an hour from ordering for our food to arrive. Luckily the waitress noticed our food has not arrived after about an hour and check in the kitchen. Once the food did arrived, we noticed the salted egg yolk had no egg yolk taste to it. They probably forgot to put the salted egg topping because they were rushing to get our order out. Usually the food here is pretty good. We were so hungry after waiting an hour, we didn't send it back. The other stuff was fine. Imperial rolls with salad, garlic noodles, roasted crab, string beans and peppercorn crab. Original review: Dinner for two 8/6/2021. We left satisfied. Good job PPQ. About $200 for dinner with drinks.

Google
The food was amazing here. The crabs are pretty big and fresh. You can get it cooked several different ways. I got the Garlic steamed lobster & the house special crab which is deep fried, sautéed with a mild jalapeño onion sauce. The house special was amazing full of flavor, but very messy. We also go the garlic noodles which is a house special it’s just noodles with garlic sauce if you like garlic you will love this dish. Also I highly recommended the Braised stint brand and tiger prawns.

Yelp
Was great to finally try this location, I had only been to the one in San Francisco on Clement St long ago. We had 3 people and ordered the set menu which included some deep fried rolls with veggies, garlic string beans, generous portion of garlic noodles and a tasty crab. They had Blood Orange beer on tap! It was cold and delish! This was my 1st time trying this and it was amazing! When it comes to citrus flavored beer, my normal Go To is Lost Coast Tangerine Wheat, but I'm going to have to add this to my Citrus FAVs! Yum! :0) Nice ambiance, well lit and clean. Yes, I would eat here again! Thank you so much for the nice, quiet dinner on a Sunday night earlier this month! :0)

Yelp
It is 3:02am. I am hugging my toilet trying to get rid of the beef cubes from my stomach. The first night, I threw up once, and assumed it was the oysters. The second night, I stupidly ate the leftover steak cubes I took home and have now thrown up several times. The rice also tasted old, very dry and hard. Worst rice I've ever had from an Asian restaurant. I feel awful and am a little mad I'll also be sleep-deprived on top of feeling ill.

Yelp
This is my 3rd time here at this location. I can't believe I never left review. But I also gone to their other location in the Richmond district in SF many times. Both are equally good. Come here for the crabs and garlic noodles. They have a variety, the peppercorn is my favorite, Thai spicy, and the garlic roasted crab & lobsters are most popular. The steamed sea bass is wonderful and the salt n pepper prawns are delicious. The service was average today, and the ambiance there was very quiet. This restaurant is known for its seafood especially the Dungeness crabs. **Don't forget to follow me on IG and Yelp for more great foodie places to check out Follow...@Only1ChristineLu **

Yelp
I love crab and this is my favorite crab spot. I'm Vietnamese and grew up eating cua rang muoi, aka salt and pepper crab. This place is way better than any crab I've had. Their version of salt and pepper crab is called peppercorn crab. Peppercorn crab was my usual go-to crab until I tried the chili crab. The chili crab tastes like a lightly battered crab that was tossed in chili oil, garlic, and Thai basil. The dish is aromatic and has a great kick to it. I usually order the combo for two since it's a better value. The combo meal for two includes imperial rolls, cabbage salad with chicken, garlic noodles, and crab made in whatever way you want. Parking is difficult to find. If you come during lunchtime on a weekday or weekend, and you'll have to circle around multiple times until you find a spot. So sometimes I'll come here on an off time around 4:00 pm just so I don't have to search for parking. This place takes reservations, but honestly you don't need it. I've been here so many times and it's never busy.

Yelp
It's been a minute since we've been at this location. It never disappoints. The tough part is parking but we were able to secure a spot a block away. We were surprised there was no wait. It was Saturday, early evening. Probably because of the holidays? But great for us as we had a nice window seat at the front of the restaurant. We did a crab meal for 2 although we were a party of 3. We added 2 more dishes, green beans and shrimp. We were stuffed!

Yelp
We were too hungry and I forgot to take a phot of all the dishes. Ordered: Peppercorn wings $17 Salted egg tofu $16 String beans $19 Roasted crab $69 House special each $69 (2) Beef cubes $56 Sea bass $33 (had bones) Garlic noodles $13 6 jasmine rice $15 Crab fried rice $22 Shrimp fried rice $21 Peppercorn tofu $16 Charbroiled beef $26 Crab maw soup $33 Service fee was $85!!!!!! Was automatically included due to our large party. Total: 557.81 Their private parking lot is small and is always packed. The parking lot in the area is small and is 1 hour parking besides Sundays. Spacious place that accommodates large parties. We went on a weekend and we were the only ones there. Made reservations in advance. Not til we left did other parties started rolling in. We also came for a late lunch/early dinner. Must have: Beef steak cubes were so good we had two orders Salted egg tofu!!! Crab & shrimp fried rice Everything else I could def pass on. Staff and service were great! Really attentive- remove empty plates, switched out our plates for clean plates. Quick service and food came out quick. Food portions are quite smaller than other places. They have a bar with two tvs that had to football game on which the guys loved.

Yelp
It's raining and cold...I had a craving for some delicious crabs. I've tried several places in the bay area and wanted to try a different one. Then I remember watching Chef Martin Yan reviewing one call PPQ Dungeness Island in Millbrae. So I had to give it a try. We had a party of six and there was plenty of room. The big round table could of accommodated 12 easily. We all sat comfortably. The service was great, we were given plastic bibs and wet naps to avoid splattering. Our water cups were also kept filled at all times. Now the food! We ordered two crabs - a roasted black pepper and a house flavored. Both flavors were delicious. However, I personally liked the House flavored one more because the sauce was throughout the crab shell and meat. Whereas the roasted black pepper one, the flavor was just on the shell. Both crabs were decent sized. We also ordered the Beef Steak Cubes. They are probably the best steak cubes I've ever tasted. They are tender and very flavorful. I swore they were filet mignon but the description didn't specify the type of steak. The portion was on the small side. But still, this is a must try! We also ordered the Five spiced chicken. The chicken was very flavorful and tender. The crunchy skin got some extra points. In addition we ordered three appetizers. The garlic green beans, fresh shrimp rolls and fried tofu. The beans were fresh and snappy without being overcooked or drenched in sauce. The shrimp rolls were very fresh, the vermicelli was soft and the shrimp was flavorful without being overcooked. The fried tofu was fried to perfection, crunchy outside and tender inside without being too greasy. However, I think the cup of sauce could be slightly more. It was barely enough to spread amongst the 10 pieces of tofu. Garlic noodles are a staple requirement in any crab restaurant. The garlic noodles did not disappoint. The noodles were very fresh, loose and buttery with just the perfect amount of garlic flavor. Overall, we all had a great time at PPQ. The service was good and the food was even better!

Yelp
This restaurant popular and is from SF. I never cared to try since I am not big seafood person and my BIL used to work for crustecean (their rival) and he makes theeee best garlic Noodz. We decided to eat here for SIL bday. Made reservations for 6PM for a Friday and restaurant was pretty empty. It wasn't until an hr or so more families came by, but still not crazily busy. We got the combo for 6 ($275). It came with: Imperial rolls - this was good Papaya salad with beef - we changed it out for shrimp - this was refreshing Roasted crab- it was okaay Peppercorn crab - did not like this. It was fried so it got pretty dry and lacked flavors 5 spices chicken- I was too full didn't get to try but fam said it was cool the 5 spice flavor wasn't too crazy which is a good thing Steamed sea bass - this was good I don't think you can go wrong with sea bass. Isn't as good as the wedding dish tho Braised string bring - we opted out for baby bok choy. I didn't get to try Garlic noodles - I was honestly disappointed since I thought it would be on par with my BIL. It was dry and no flavors.. On top of this we got Chicken fried rice - I liked this Beef cubes - meat was super tender and saucey. Sauce was a little too strong for me. Maybe too much vinegar Peppercorn wings - it was good Very good service as well. Good try but not something I'd have again.

Yelp
The menu is diverse and the food is absolutely outstanding. Dungennes crab preparations are wonderfully prepared. Service could not have been any better than it was--extremely friendly and efficient.

Yelp
Celebrating a friend's birthday here and it was a blast !! We had the whole upstairs to ourselves which is very private. The food portion is decent. ( I actually couldn't eat the last 2 dishes coz I was so full ! ) The sashimi is very fresh and the crabs are delicious. Definitely a nice place to host an event.

Yelp
Came here for a late dinner Saturday night. Had reservation for 3, dinner with two colleagues/friends. One friend had suggested it and ordered for the 3 of us so we ate family style. Roasted crab, braised string beans, steamed sea bass with a soy-based sauce, garlic noodles and jasmine rice. All AMAZING!!! Wish we had one in the San Diego area! Ambience was modern Asian fusion like the food. White table cloths, with hand wipes and bibs given to us. We talked and ate, and ate some more. We closed the place (9:30ish). I have never had such an amazing crab dinner, and was a very happy crab eating gal. Will come here anytime I'm in the area. Do they ship I wonder? Still thinking about it two days later. Yummmmmmmm!

Yelp
We had a party here upstairs with about 30 people on a Monday night. We spent the evening dining on crab and garlic noodles. There was a lot of karaoke singing and dancing. Everyone had a good time. We had 11 gals on one table so we ordered the prefix meal of Crabs for 6. We also ordered some peppercorn wings, fried calamari, bok Choy, jasmine rice, and tofu cabbage salad. We substituted one of the crabs for salted egg yolk crab. The salted egg yolk crab was my favorite. The seasoning was perfect and not too salty. Everything else was definitely on point. The sea bass was well seasoned and perfectly steamed. The Garlic noodles could have used more garlic. The roasted crab was just okay. For some reason we never received the imperial rolls that was included with our meal. And I did not notice until I left the restaurant. I am wondering how PPQ can make this right. We were also charged and served a salted egg fish skin that our table didn't order. Since I did all the ordering, we are pretty much stumped why this happened.
google avatar

Christina W.

Yelp
PPQ has become one of our go-to spots for big family gatherings. They have big tables and family style menus that are perfect for group dining. We like the butter garlic crab... and paired with the garlic noodles, it's a garlic lover's dream come true! Service is also good, as the food comes out fast and the staff is welcoming and friendly. So put on your bib and prepare to enjoy some crab!
google avatar

Roxane P.

Yelp
When the MIL requests her last meal in the states, it's usually PPQ. For good reason. Consistently good seafood, crab to be specific. Nice combo options. Super nice and attentive service from everyone who helped us. Ambiance is chill. With large tables for bigger parties to 4-tops, and tv for sports typically. World Series was on and basketball, so the FIL was entertained. Food is always delicious. Service is kind, prompt, and attentive. Overall, this is a consistently good spot for us to get our crab and garlic noodle fix. The kid approves too.

Maurine S.

Yelp
Hosted a party of 30 here on a Sunday afternoon. They were very nice about giving us the upstairs room which had a flat screen so we could show a slide show. Not all the screens are connected though so we could only run it on one tv. The food was good, the portions small, the service was eh, but the room was great. Most likely will not return for the prices but I did appreciate the room! Sorry! I was so busy hosting I didn't get a chance to take pics! For how much we paid for the crab and sea bass the portions were disappointingly small. We double ordered most dishes and it basically was enough for everyone to have a taste but not be stuffed. Good thing we're not big eaters but all our food was gone from each table.

Miguel A.

Yelp
I am very disappointed with my visit to this establishment. I took me and my date there Saturday she ordered beef cubes and oysters . She ended up throwing up that night thinking it was oysters it was the beef cubes and as of today she is still throwing up and sick. We should have to worry about eating contaminated food. Would reccomed this place to support .
google avatar

Kim B.

Yelp
The food was a ton. Our host had ordered a 10 meal course. What I can remember were green papaya salad with shrimp, steamed fish with ginger and a soy sauce, green beans with pork, garlic butter crab, garlic dry rub crab with green onions and spice, garlic noodles, and I think I was so full after my mind went blank The ambiance was great and the place is huge. We had a big party and they accomodated us well. We had an elderly group but the acoustics were pretty good so everyone could hear one another. The food really was flavorful, the service was very very good!
google avatar

Benson W.

Yelp
Ppq in sf was booked so we decided to come to the new one here in millbrae. Started off with the oysters because you have to have oysters when getting seafood. They were insanely small for some reason, definitely stay from those no matter how much you love them. Cha gio: what you see is what you get in the picture. Can't believe we had to ask for more lettuce but overall good.4/5 Both crabs were good just as you'd expect them to be. If I had to choose one, it's be the salty egg yolk. The garlic and butter does get repetitive with no spices but made a nice dipping sauces for the garlic noodles. 5/5 Garlic noodles were a little disappointing. Couldn't put my finger on what was missing. Had to constantly dip it into the garlic butter of the crab. Maybe they'll be better at the original location. 3/5

Yelp
This was one of the best dinners I have had in a while! We made a reservation for our party of 4 at 5pm on a Saturday, but I think it was early enough in the evening that we could have walked in without reserving. The interior of the restaurant is spacious and clean. There are lots of big tables so this would be a great place for a large group as well. Everyone gets a bib and moist towelette since cracking and eating crab is definitely a messy job. Service is very friendly and attentive. We elected for the crab dinner for 4 and it was amazing. As someone who really values variety in a meal I was so glad I got to try so many different dishes. I think it is rare for me to like every single dish on a prix fixe menu but I really liked everything on the table. The imperial rolls and cabbage salad come out first as appetizers, and the rest of the dishes follow. The sea bass and the garlic noodles were standout dishes for me, but again, everything was really really good and super flavorful. Also, the crab sauce on top of the noodles is an amazing combo! This was more than enough food for all of us, and we took a couple small leftover boxes home. I really have nothing but good things to say about the food here and I can't wait to come back.

Yelp
We go to PPQ every trip back to the Bay and lately, the Millbrae location has been automatic for us. We just love the food there and the service has always been great from the manager, host and to the servers. I grew up around the corner from the original location on Clement so PPQ has been frequented by my family since the beginning. Every trip back home to the Bay, to the City for me, would not be complete without having some of my favorite dishes from PPQ. We usually get a Crab Set Dinner for 2 ($108) which comes with 1 roasted crab, imperial rolls, cabbage salad with chicken and a bowl of those famous garlic noodles. You cant go wrong with this set. The roasted crab is our favorite of all the dressings you can choose for the dungeness crab. The garlic noodles are flavorful and the best compliment to the crab. The imperial rolls are fried & are filled with pork, carrots, taro & noodles. The last few years, I've been ordering peppercorn wings ($17) thanks to the suggestion of fellow Yelp Elite Harvey K... The wings are so good. Garlic & pepper flavor wings that are so good. Thanks Harvey! I get em every time now. Even for take-out. We've also ordered beef steak cubes ($28) which have certified angus beef cut into cubes, sauteed with onions and are fork tender. This is a good change up to a seafood heavy dinner... On our last trip during the end of September, my Aunt ordered the salted egg yolk prawns ($25). She wanted to try something new. They were so good! They are perfectly salty, deep fried and delicious. I think I might have to order these again when I go back next month. One thing you cannot pass up ordering is crab. We usually get roasted crab with its buttery and garlic flavor. So very good. But we've also gotten peppercorn crab too. We might have to try the salted egg yolk crab in the near future. I dont know how that can't be tasty as well... There are also chili, curry, cajun, house special and garlic steamed options for crab as well as lobster. I'm sure they are all very flavorful. The roasted crab is the one for me so far in my many dinners at PPQ over the years. PPQ Millbrae has a good sized dining room. There is also patio dining which was a good option during the stricter Covid months. I like the spaciousness of the dining room. You arent too close to the other tables so I like that. The manager at the Millbrae location has always been friendly & helpful. Except the last time we went when I was trying to slip him my credit card so I could treat my Aunt & her husband but he beat me to it. Ha! I was bummed! I'll be quicker to the draw next time for sure. Street parking only. Located on El Camino... Open until 9p/930p most nights. Reservations are recommended. Walk-ins sometimes have to wait a little bit. But PPQ is always worth it.

Yelp
The go to spot for dungeness crab. This location has much easier parking then the one in the city. The staff and service here were fast and friendly. The crab is always good. My favs are the roasted garlic and the peppercorn. it is cooked to perfection and easy to eat. IMO the sides to always get are the garlic noodles and the green bean. The garlic noodles are one of the best ive ever had. This place its a must stop every year when its crab season.

Yelp
I heard about this place from two different people on the same day. It was a sign to come give this place a visit! On a wimp, my mom suggested that we pick up my dad and book it to the Millbrae location for dinner. I was thoroughly disappointed. Most of the food was bland and overpriced. The main attraction was the crab and it was so dry. The cups, plates and utensils were dirty. They charge a 20% service fee for parties of 2 or more. Which is very confusing because the service was close to nonexistent. Not sure what the hype is about this place but I cannot recommend this place to anyone.

Yelp
We were celebrating graduation dinner. Better experience at PPQ than when we ate there a year ago. This time the food was delicious and service was good. Ordered the crab dinner for 6. We sat upstairs and it was a bit hot until they turned up the air conditioner. I think I prefer sitting downstairs but it was okay.
google avatar

Yelp
First time and not the last time. Huge crabs and several tasty selection on how to cook them. We had garlic and butter Garlic noodles were ok. I preferred just plain rice to go with the sauce from crab. So delicious!!!!! braised string beans cooked perfectly and pork egg rolls to start were perfect

Yelp
I spent $200 here and I'll never regret it. Matter fact, I'd do it again! How many places you eat at that you can say that n truly mean it? I don't think I really need to say much about the food, service or ambience on this one. You step in and you're there. You see the pictures? You read the other reviews? You see the people who mad n rated one star got no real taste in their other reviews, right? Well guess what. The more you f around the more you find out. F around y'all. F around n come talk to me.

Yelp
While this place is pricey, it's a great place to go for crab/seafood and garlic noodles. The parking here can be a little difficult since it's in downtown Millbrae but they have their own parking lot (which i feel like fills pretty quickly). You can definitely bring big groups here as they have big tables and the portion sizes are great for sharing!
google avatar

Yelp
This was my first time at this location I always go to the sf location. Everything was the same for the most part except the crab fried rice tasted a little different but I like that there was lots of space and the restaurant was not full

Yelp
Gave this place a 2nd chance and this time it came through. Attended with a few more people so ordered a set crab dinner for 4 and added crab fried rice which was more than enough for everyone and leftovers. Imperial Rolls - crispy, savory and the dipping sauce help balance the overall flavor of fat. Cabbage Salad with Chicken- nice pairing with the richness of the crab as the vinegar dressing help cut through the other dishes of garlic and butter. Roasted Crab- cooked perfectly and given the delay in crab season this was still meaty and the sweetness blended with the butter nicely. Steamed Sea Bass- very well prepared as each piece was tender and succulent as it sat on top of a soy sesame oil sauce. Garlic Noodles- on point! Crab Fried Rice- Generous portion and great for next day leftover. Overall, service was good and very relaxing atmosphere so definitely go with a group so you could enjoy all the dishes.

Yelp
We had a pleasant lunch here but menu is limited. Check the menu before coming here. They are famous for crab but we didn't order because it's too much work to eat. Food: 4/5 - papaya salad with shrimp 3/5 - prefer Thai version, need more lime flavor - garlic wings 3/5 - salted egg tofu 3/5 batter wasn't sticking - sea bass 5/5 - pretty good portion - pea shoots 4/5 - shrimp garlic 5/5 - crab fried rice 4/5 - garlic noodles 3/5 nothing special and a little too soft for me Service 4/5 They were not busy and were attentive. Ambiance 5/5 Clean and spacious

Yelp
The food is great definitely recommend the lobster in garlic sauce for two . We also had the crab fried rice and their signature rolls on the house . However, great food means pricey food it was worth every penny . Our hostess is very nice and tend to us quite often . Nice bar as you walk in , maybe just a little too bright in the dining area .

Yelp
Enjoyed another fun and delicious dinner with dear friends from out of town. We ordered their Crab Meal for 6 and then an extra order of famed peppercorn chicken wings. The two crabs, steamed sea bass, and chicken wings are always memorable. Everyone left with very happy full bellies. Charlie, Owner, was able to catch up with us and also brought out complimentary Mitchell's coconut and mango ice cream to finish our meal. Go and get your crab fix on.

Yelp
Craving crab but too lazy to go out. Ordered via Door dash the Crab Dinner for two and was prepared so nice and fresh considering it was alot of food. Great service and tasted as fresh as we were in restaurant. Delicious. Highly recommend if you want to enjoy with your family of 4 in your home clothes.

Yelp
We ordered the comb crab for 2 for $95. Crab was fresh & garlic noodles were tasty. Imperial rolls were little burn. Chicken cabbage salad was good. Check came out around $122 tips were added to the bills.

Yelp
Finally got a chance to try the Millbrae location since I loved the food at the SF location. Came on a Monday for dinner with a friend and there were only a few tables of people which is probably much different compared to a Friday or weekend evening. Parking was easy on the same block of the restaurant. I remember coming to this building when it was a seafood Cajun restaurant and when it was a dim sum place before that. The PPQ host/server was very friendly and helpful. My friend and I didn't want to get our hands dirty and have to work for our dinner so we passed on crab and lobster this time. Crazy right??? But we just had crab and lobster at a Chinese banquet a few days ago. So we asked for recommendations and we were very happy with what we ordered: - Peppercorn short ribs were soooo tender and flavorful. We spooned the leftover seasoning on the garlic noodles to enjoy it some more! - Garlic noodles are a must do here. Nice texture and flavor. - String beans were tender, juicy and flavorful. - Grilled shrimp with dipping was simple but delicious. I need to take my wife here because it's been some time since she had PPQ. I sure don't mind eating some more here!

Yelp
PPQ Crab is really a no frills kinda place; It's about the crab; Many delicious flavors to choose from; We picked garlic roasted crab; 5 spice chicken and sea bass; So good! Family style, lots of big tables; Parking is scarce but it's worth it; If you love crab give this place a try

Yelp
The roasted garlic crab was excellent but we felt the house special crab wasn't really that great flavor wise. It was pretty salty. Service was also somewhat mediocre. Felt like the servers didn't really care at all and didn't come to check on us that much. We enjoyed the garlic noodles and papaya salad

Yelp
I absolutely loved my visit here and the food was amazing! I am spoiled when it comes to crab...I would rather do a crab cake and not have to peel or crack crab! I don't even want to do it! So this trip, it was Cajun shrimp with crab fried rice and garlicky broccoli, with fried calamari for starters! I will tell you that I was impressed with the flavorful meal! I ordered the garlic noodles to go and wasn't impressed at all.....but that isn't why I came here. The food was great and I am so glad I came! Will be back again!

Yelp
My party of 9 people were seated quickly on Saturday afternoon. Making a reservation online was an easy and convenient option. The interior is spacious and most of the tables were empty. Service was attentive. We ordered the "CRAB DINNER FOR 10" ($478). This came with the following items: - Imperial Rolls - Papaya Salad with Shrimp - Roasted Crabs (2): our favorite crab flavor! - Peppercorn Crab (1) - Charbroiled Pork - Steamed Sea Bass - Five Spices Chicken: very moist and not dry at all - Braised String Beans: much-needed vegetable to break up all the heavier meat dishes - House Garlic Noodles They have different combo options depending on your party size. You can also opt for ordering a la carte. This is definitely not a cheap meal, but the food is tasty and portions are big. PPQ is a nice option for more special occasions with family.

Yelp
The staff was very accommodating and friendly. We were lucky with street parking. The food was delicious, but we weren't able to order the items we initially wanted such as the curry crab and garlic fried crab. Overall, I still prefer Crustacean's garlic noodles and crab, but this place is still pretty good to try out.

Yelp
Great place for having Dungeness crab. The restaurant offers variety of ways for cooking crabs. I picked roasted and it was fantastic. Service was decent and attentive. Ambiance was a bit loud but great for date night and family/group of friends together. You won't be disappointed if you were craving for fresh Dungeness crab!

Yelp
Food is good however I think it is a bit over priced. If I have cravings for seafood I may go to others Chinese restaurants that make the same dishes with a bit more affordable price.

Yelp
High quality food and excellent customer service. The food came out hot and quick. We ordered the set menu for 6, which included sea bass, spring rolls, beef salad, two kinds of crab, garlic noodles. The sea bass had to be one of the best fish I've ever had--very smooth, no bones, packed with flavorful. The restaurant was very clean. Good for parties and special occasions!!

Yelp
5/5 for Food and Service All the Dungenese crab flavors are good and must try. Peppercorn and salted egg yolk is my personal favorite. Love the house garlic noodles too. Casual dining.

Yelp
My son, wife and I decided on celebrating his 18th birthday here at this place. It was chosen again by my wife who has a good nose for finding places that serve great food. Once again, this place was a hit but without some small details that I will point out at the end of this review. We were greeted by a friendly lady who appeared to be either the owner or the manager. She told us we could sit near the window and it was perfect because it allowed us some privacy from the rest of the groups. It was Wednesday so not so busy for midweek. The lady helped recommend some of their crab dinner choices. The way the dinners are setup are that it caters for an even number of people (2 or 4) and right off the bat the prices seemed very steep. My wife and I already knew this beforehand so it was no shock and we still decided to eat here in spite of these shortcomings. Since there were 3 in our party, we settled upon the Crab Dinner for 2. This was suggested by the same lady that seated us at our table. The crab dinner for 2 came with a very large dungeness crab, seasoned with garlic and butter, a chicken cabbage salad, some egg rolls and house garlic noodles. For our starters, we decided on the fried calamari, soft shell crab and added some additional entrees to our dinner (Peppercorn Prawns, steamed seabass). The entrees seemed pretty steep in price but every single dish down to the chicken cabbage salad were all very flavorful. Peppercorn prawns were nice and crunchy and we ate everything down to the last peppercorn kernel. Steamed seabass was soft, but yet firm and not overcooked- again flavorful. The Dungeness crab was doused with so much garlic and butter that the flavors perfectly infused within the crab itself. It was not bland and the texture of the meat was indeed fresh- not frozen or tasteless like the ones you usually get from Ranch 99. These seemed to be hand-picked by the restaurant. Although the price we paid was pretty steep, the point was that my son and wife had a great time. Now for the negatives- This restaurant will include the gratuity amount up front added to your final bill. I did some math and the tip came out to be 13%. I'm not sure if this is legal for the restaurant to do this as the tip is based solely on the type of waited service you would usually receive. You should be able to control the amount of tip you wish to give and not have a preset amount added to your bill. Now what if you got crappy service or the food was bad? Then how is that handled? You should still have control of that amount regardless. Since the man and woman behind the counter seemed to be the authoritarians running the show, I just hope that my added tip was given to those who deserved it; the cook and folks in the kitchen who worked hard to prepare that delicious meal for my family and not to those two.

Yelp
3 for the Total Dining Experience. Dont get me wrong! Crabs were good. The Egg Yolk and Garlic Butter sauce were really good. However, the Mandatory 18% Service Fee dampen the joy. We knew about the fee ahead of time. We were okay with it. However, there were NO SERVICE OFERED THAT WORTH the $32 they charged. The older lady who sit us was very cold and stand-of ish. The rice they served had some bottom of the rice cooker burned part. They gave 3 crab crackers. Since there were 4 of us, I asked for 1 more. We never got it. The soap they used In the restroom was the pink, harsh stuff you could find at Chinatown Chinese restaurants that probably dont charge 18% service fee. Okay, I'm nit picking! I felt really ripped off. So, yeah, not going to come back! Will check out Thanh Long.

Yelp
We chose PPQ as our reception for our elopement with a total of 11 guests including my husband and I and I'm so so so glad we did! We've eaten here twice before and it was always solid-- once we heard they had a private room for events, we knew where we were going to eat on our wedding night. Our reception was on a Thursday night, it was so easy to make the reservation and book the private room upstairs all we had to do was call. We knew to secure the room we had to spend a minimum of $500 which is so generous considering how much food you get and all the leftovers you get to take home! We had so much food, I planned ahead and wrote it all down just so it was easier for the restaurant and everything came out fast. We ordered the DF wings, papaya salad, calamari, imperial rolls, five spice chicken, Cajun crab, house crab, garlic crab, peppercorn ribs, steak, egg yolk shrimp, and green beans which were all great! No complaints at all and all just such great comfort foods. We arrived that night, were shown immediately to our room upstairs separate from the main restaurant. The warriors game was already on a large tv right in front of our table before we could even ask! They stored our cake, bottles of wine and champagne and even had a karaoke set up! Ricky was our host, server, go-to person, he was fantastic and just so thorough with making sure we were good! He single-handedly cleaned our table, served our food, and refilled our drinks-- who knew this service would be like this!! The room itself was as expected just an empty room which I'm sure you could fill with decorations. By the end of the night our leftovers were packed, the table was clean, and there was no pressure or rush to leave. We were so glad that our intimate day was even more special with the service we had at ppq, I would absolutely recommend for private events!
