The Best Ice Cream Shops in Portland, Oregon | Eater Portland

"The Meyer lemon yellow gelato window in Portland’s Cully neighborhood attracts hoards of nearby families: Kids draw with chalk on the stone patio while parents await sprinkle-coated scoops of chocolate or stracciatella. Despite its popularity among the under-six crowd, these gelatos and sorbettos are grown up: Luscious pistachio gelato has a delicate, savory-salty flavor, while the grapefruit and Campari sorbetto doesn’t shy away from the aperitivo’s noted bitterness. Generally, sorbettos here are a refreshing treat." - Michelle Lopez

Best Dishes the Eater Portland Team Ate This Week | Eater Portland

"On opening day, a spumoni-esque sundae assembled from chocolate hazelnut, Oregon strawberry, and California pistachio flavors topped with Bordeaux cherries worked harmoniously: delicate pistachio and strawberry tempered the richness of chocolate hazelnut, while the cherries were an especially coveted component." - Eater Staff

Portland New Restaurant, Bar, and Food Cart Openings, May 2024 | Eater Portland

"Opened May 25 by Andrea Spella (of Spella Caffè) and chef George Kaden, I found this new gelato shop emphasizes local ingredients like Oregon hazelnut butter, strawberries, and local dairy. Customers can order scoops with magic shell, sprinkles, or fresh whipped cream from a takeaway window for patio dining, and the shop also serves affogatos and coffee drinks made with Spella Caffè." - Janey Wong

The People Behind Campana and Spella Caffè Are Opening a Portland Gelateria | Eater Portland

"Now filling tubs for Kaden’s Woodlawn Italian restaurant and both of Spella Caffè’s brick‑and‑mortar cafes, Pronto Gelato is churning flavors such as Oregon hazelnut, lime‑ginger sorbetto, and stracciatella, using Oregon dairy and local ingredients (Oregon hazelnut butter, Oregon strawberries, marionberry sorbetto). The operation has landed on a core lineup of about 12–13 gelatos and sorbettos with a few seasonal variations, and will serve scoops, cones and affogatos from a production facility that features a 1,100‑square‑foot outdoor patio (no indoor seating), optional finishings like Tom Bumble Crumble, a magic shell and sprinkles, and a festive atmosphere with occasional live music; the gelato window is slated to open around June 2024 at 4205 NE Alberta Street in Portland." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Gelato was great and the owner super friendly. Had 2 scoops: the espresso + pistachio. Espresso was excellent, pistachio was very mild, too milky for my taste. I'll be back again. Sorry no pics of gelato, it was a 90° day and ate it fast ;)

Sparkling clean and friendly corner shop in NE Portland. Staff is helpful and their products are fresh and always delicious. The affogato is a must if in need of a pick me up. The espresso gelato is a must try for coffee lovers, although you can’t go wrong with any of their flavors!

So stoked to have Pronto in the neighborhood! Both the gelato and espresso are great and they have some dairy free sorbetto flavors as well. The service is always friendly and it’s been an awesome addition to 42nd ave.

Nice Gelato, pistachio and hazelnut were full of natural and strong flavor. Fun vibe at this corner place, especially with the sunshine. Also pricing is fairly competitive compared with other ice cream shops in Portland.

Talk about flavors!! Wow! This is legitimate gelato. Not ice cream. Genuine gelato and wow is it good! Richness? Extreme! Flavors? Like I'm in Italy! I had the pistachio and the stracciatella and I added Bordeaux cherries. Yes! Bordeaux cherries is an optional add on!! They're perfect with this!! The pistachio is roasted, hand crushed and blended in house before turned into some of the best pistachio gelato I've ever had... Mind blowing flavor!! I highly recommend this flavor 10/10 The staff is lovely. Andrea and George make it happen. These guys know what they're doing as there is no competition to what they got going on here. The location is really well done and brand new. Love it! If you haven't already enjoyed this gelato, get over here! It's worth it and you WILL not be disappointed!

Sometimes people have a bad day. Appears today was yours. Here in the service industry when you have a business that caters to families during hot weather, shade is actually a necessity. It’s unfortunate all your umbrellas broke. It’s unfortunate you didn’t order them in the winter like any responsible business owner would. But telling customers it’s a hot day deal with it ,especially small children and infants is a good way to lose business. Service industry is about being hospitable. After having to move a bench at 4pm on the hottest day of this year so several families could have shade a fragile man in the shade of his operation didn’t feel it was necessary to provide shade for patrons. I actually offered to do it for you since you were also understaffed and in a poor mood. I’m glad after you were told how to do your job someone else took to the shade you were instructed to provide. I wish you the best of luck because with an attitude like yours it doesn’t matter if you make a quality product. Order umbrellas or put up shade on your patio. It’s May and we’re weeks into over 70 degree weather. Thank you for being kind!
