D.C.’s New Proper Bar Offers a Glittering Glimpse Into the Past | Eater DC

"Located at the foot of a luxe new apartment building, this white-tableclothed spot marks a turn for the NYC-born group in D.C., swapping out sports for a snazzy supper club vibe under a squiggly ceiling, complete with caviar service and Veuve Clicquot kept cold in silver crocodile-shaped carafes. I start with fluffy Parker House rolls ($7) before Brussels sprouts studded with red pickled peppers and toasted nuts ($16). Crispy chicken and caviar—a party trick recently made famous by Rihanna—is done well here, topped with orbs of herbed buttermilk ranch; it’s giving Filet-O-Fish for grown-ups ($31). Colorful tomato concasse doused in Calamansi vinegar pairs well with pesto campanelle built with sun-dried tomato gremolata ($24), and the one-page menu brings back the Proper Burger ($23) that put its D.C. debut on the map in 2016. Dirty martinis arrive with extra portions on ice, and indulgent types can turn to White Sturgeon or Golden Osetra by the gram starting at $74, complete with all the trimmings (creme fraiche, doughnut holes, and egg). Christmas came early here: evergreens went up in early November, cranberry-dotted garland frames sage-green soft booths encased in year-round elephant ears, and in lieu of sports the big-screen Samsung TVs behind the bar showcase edgy art that Quentin Tarantino would like. Tenants upstairs are already regulars—as evidenced by an impromptu birthday party that came down in droves with a cake in tow—and a lacquered black piano that comes to life on weekends leads the way to a covered back patio prepped for holiday festivities." - Tierney Plumb

The D.C.-Area Restaurant Openings in October | Eater DC

"An elevated, less-sporty evolution of the Alabama-aligned sports bar arrives in Mount Vernon Triangle, highlighting hamachi crudo, crab tagliatelle, and a 40-day, dry-aged burger. A robust beer program joins cocktails like the Caballo (coconut-washed rum and clarified pineapple juice) and Hermes (Midori, vodka, absinthe, honeydew juice) in a 5,500-square-foot space for 225 guests inside and out." - Emily Venezky

Celebrate Summer at These Creative Restaurant and Bar Pop-Ups Around D.C. | Eater DC

"An immersive, ice-focused cocktail collaboration led by industry veterans that riffs on explorer Richard Byrd’s ‘lost diary,’ guiding guests through a four-cocktail journey that begins with a chilly fruit paleta dipped in chamoy and culminates with smashing through a block of ice to retrieve an encased laminated menu; the experience (priced at $78) features drinks spiced with eucalyptus and palo santo to evoke warmer realms, plus an a la carte selection including a returning ostrich-fat–washed Dino cocktail and hot/cold specials, with a la carte sushi available from a neighboring vendor." - Emily Venezky

I Love Proper Bar! I had dinner here on Saturday October 18th at 6:30 pm. When me and my party arrived we were greeted by Will and the Hostess and it was a very warm and friendly welcoming. The Ambiance is out of this world its definitely gives Miami vibes very grown and sexy. We got seated immediately upon arriving and our waitress Ari took excellent care of us. Ari was very friendly and knowledgeable and gave excellent recommendations for cocktails, appetizers, entrees and desserts. We order the Crispy Brussels Sprouts, Patata Braves, Chicken & Caviar, Citrus Cured Hamachi, Wild Mushroom & Beef Tortellini, Proper Bar Burger & Tiger Prawn. All of these dishes were cooked to perfection. Very Flavorful and Savory. Shoutout to the chef Felipe & Miguel. The Staff were amazing Sam, Daniel & Will all came to check in to see how experience was going. Thank you Proper Bar for your hospitality. 10/10 Highly Recommended!

I had my birthday dinner at proper bar and it was the best experience! From food to drinks, to service! Everything was amazing, but the service was even better. They were so attentive, we had a large party, but they still made sure that we had everything we needed. My guests loved everything but, especially the drinks, steak, and pasta dishes! They also were so accommodating, which is sometimes hard to find so I would highly recommend this for a small or large party! It's also gorgeous inside so the atmosphere is 10/10

We had such a wonderful experience here. The food was absolutely delicious, the drinks were perfectly crafted, and the service was exceptional from start to finish. Everything felt thoughtful and elevated. The jazz music created the perfect atmosphere- cozy, stylish, and unforgettable. You can really feel the care and passion behind this place. We loved every moment and can’t wait to come back!

Our evening at the Proper Bar was truly amazing. The ambiance was elegant. (remember the dress code—no hats/beanies inside). Food was absolutely delicious. We ordered Parker House Rolls, Scallops, Cured Hamachi, Patatas Bravas, Brussel Sprouts, Gambas Al Ajillo, Wild Mushroom&Sage Tortellini, and Dry Aged NY Strip. Our friend complimented that Patatas Bravas offered rich and authentic flavors. We loved everything we tried, especially the Scallops and NY Strip. Every dish demonstrated remarkable technique and ingredient quality. And seriously, do not skip the dessert—the Chocolat was a dense, delicious finale. Highly recommended for a celebratory or special night out. We are already looking forward to our next reservation!

Absolutely loved this place! ✨ Proper Bar is so elegant and beautifully designed - from the decor to the overall vibe, everything feels classy and thoughtfully put together. The drinks were amazing, perfectly crafted and delicious. The service was exceptional - honestly, one of the best (if not the best) I’ve experienced in D.C. The staff were so attentive, friendly, and professional, which made the whole experience even better. I’ll definitely be back soon to try the food - this spot is a gem! 🍸💫

An amazing spot for our Girl’s Night Out - we started with a round of cocktails, and hands down the Hermes was an our fav. Refreshing much? From there, Devon led us to the local Sparkling Wine option and helped us choose a few snacks to start. Chicken Nuggets with Caviar were delicious. The vibe was perfect with a piano player, beautiful decor, and plush booths. For dinner we split a tomahawk steak and all left feeling full. Best part? The staff. From immediately welcoming us and making sure our waters were never empty, they take care of us at every step.

Brand new spot so we’ll have to give it time to see how it shapes up. Fantastic service: our table host was Ari who was super knowledgeable about the new menu on the second day we visited after the restaurant opened. There is a decent selection of food options which was reasonably priced and liked the dishes we tried (portions and quality). They are definitely eager to get feedback at this stage. We’ll return to taste more of the menu as it evolves. We were also informed that they would also start serving brunch in several weeks so we are curious about that menu once it launches. There is a speakeasy atmosphere inside inclusive with a piano at the other end presumably for some performances in the near future. The interior transports you to another place and time. There is a dress code which is enforced by security at the entrance so be prepared for that. There is a lot of potential in the restaurant and its story is definitely one to watch over the next few months.

Amazing new restaurant open in DC first night to the public was Friday night , myself and my missus have the amazing fortune of being invited to try them out. Outstanding the spot is going to slay their drinks . The incredible dishes we have and the awesome attentive team. Have no complaints oh and the mini grand piano can be in full flight at certain times of the night
