Proper Tacos

Absolutely incredible. The food was truly sensational and about as close to eating in Mexico as you can get in London. Every dish had its own vivid personality and depth of flavour. I actually started taking photos of everything, but after the third dish I put my phone away and just enjoyed the moment. The team’s warmth made the experience even better; Jose and Juan were especially friendly and incredibly helpful with recommendations. I ended up eating and drinking for nearly two hours, completely losing track of time. It felt like being on holiday rather than a regular Thursday afternoon. I’ve been wanting to try Proper Tacos for ages, and now that I finally have, it’s absolutely going to become one of my regular spots.

This place is fantastic! The service was really kind and helpful. The staff member made sure I was familiar with their menu, guided me through my options and then asked me about which toppings I wanted. The food was prepared in a timely manner and was completely delicious. Simple and bold flavours, it felt super authentic! One of the best in London, and I’ve tried a lot! I happened to go on a Tuesday and they had a taco Tuesday offer: £9 for 3 tacos. There’s a small seating area, nothing fancy but the atmosphere is adequate.

Absolutely fantastic, authentic and high quality food. (Pun) Proper Mexican cuisine ! Everyone is very friendly. I asked for a 3 tacos platter “con todo” with everything and also mentioned I like PICANTE. And so it was delivered. The salsa macha was also delicious. I love Mexican cuisine but unfortunately you cannot find good spots in London or south of England. From a fellow Latin American: Gracias por todo!

Just had the most delicious warming fresh pozole. It’s very rare to find a place that will do a veg version and they do that here both with mushrooms (hongos) or cactus (nopales). Both people who worked there were so lovely as well. Highly recommend 😊

Hands down the best tortillas in all of London, and best tacos de carnitas too! Handmade blue corn tortillas really make the taco, and the fillings don’t disappoint. We tried tinga de pollo, pollo con mole, and chicharrón prensado. All of them were really good, but the absolute best were the tacos de carnitas. Deliciously moreish, so good we had to take some home, along with a couple dozen tortillas and salsa. Tere kindly packed carnitas and toppings for us, which we had today at home. And now I’m completely hooked, I’ll have go back for more soon. If you have a gathering at home (from a few guests to a big party), you can preorder tortillas, fillings, and toppings and you’ll impress everyone. The service is warm and attentive, and Tere makes everyone’s visit special. ¡Gracias! P.S. I’m from Mexico City. Some reviews have been critical of the ambience and waiting times. This is a market food stall, like the best ones in Mexico City, and there’s a special charm in that. As for waiting times, they are quite quick for London, way faster than any pub. Update: visited again for the special Dia de Muertos menu. Spectacular pozole, tamales, and agua de horchata.

This places optimises what you should want from a restaurant: Quality food, service and family run. This restaurant has all of those in abundance. Easily the best tacos I’ve ever had and you can tell they’re the real deal. They cater to a range of dietary options and spice levels so there’s something for everyone. I look forward to coming here again and recommend this place to everyone.

The tacos are amazing. Especially today on Tuesday they're £3 for each. I came here with my fiance and we fell in love with these tacos! Will definitely be back! And the staff is super friendly and nice!

What a great experience. Food was fantastic but also the team, so so lovely, could not have been more accommodating! Very casual spot, in a food market so expect to sit in stools and chat to everyone, we will be back 100% !!! The birria beef and chicken tinga were unreal! Thanks 🙏
