A bustling German pub with an extensive beer selection and hearty German food. The pretzel is the ultimate comfort snack - super fluffy and so satisfying that it’s hard to stop eating! Their sausages are flavorful, with the currywurst being a standout, and the schnitzel is impressively large, perfect for sharing or those with a big appetite. The atmosphere is lively with very friendly service. The vibe is generally more relaxed on weekdays while it can get rowdy during weekends. Overall, it’s a fantastic spot for comforting German food and simply a great time.

Always try to check out local German food when even we travel. The wife and I found Prost online and wanted to check it out for lunch. We arrived Saturday about 130pm to a pretty empty place. They had college football on and plenty of TV for watching. Our server was funny and very knowledgeable on the beers. He did disappear for a while and I was with out a beer for a while. I had to grab another employee and she promptly took care of me. The giant pretzel is no joke. We got the half and had trouble finishing it. The portions are large the food is good, average for most German spots but not great. It will not prevent me from come back. I can only imagine how this place is during Octoberfest. Will return for sure!

Originally came here as a back up plan when the local pizza shop ended up being reservation only. SO glad we came to Prost. If we come back to Chicago it will be to enjoy the excellent food and ambiance! Absolutely delicious and the best food we’ve had on our trip. We had the small wurst plate, Wisconsin curds, and schnitzel strips. All were fantastic and we would highly recommend. The Oktoberfest Riesling was sweet and crisp and our server Nick was awesome! 10/10!

Great food and great atmosphere. We had a 1/2 pretzel, schnitzel, brisketwurst with fries and of course some German beer. Portion sizes were generous and everything was great but it would have been nice to get the pretzel as an appetizer and not with our meal.

Food was exceptional and felt like I was back in Bavaria! Prices were amazingly low for the quality AND quantity of food we got. Service was cordial and quick. Great experience!

Love the giant pretzels (especially with beer cheese), and the wurst boards are amazing. Tons of great beer options and knowledgeable servers. Trivia on Sundays is fun.

Ok it is tough deciding what to rate this place. If it wasn't for the prices I would give it a 5/5 for sure. I love coming here for the fun selection of beers they have on tap.... but slight problem, a stein of imported beer is like 30 bucks lol. I love the Weihenstephaner Vitus, and you hardly ever find it, so it is worth it every now and then but better off going to Whole Foods and getting it in bottle for $3.75. The best deal on the menu is the pretzel it is fricking huge, it could probably feed a family of 4 lol. Love the atmosphere overall, and they have fun trivia on Sundays so I definitely will keep coming back.

I've got to admit, I have a soft spot in my heart for places that decorate for the seasons. Lovely pub, ample seating options, friendly, personable and proactive bartender. He kep the drinks flowing and made great recommendations for a seasonal cocktail (peppermint White Russian) , seasonal beers that taste like Christmas and yummy snacks. (Try the crispy pierogis and pretzel with 4 dipping sauces). Such a warm vibe on a chilly day. Looking forward to bringing friends back next week. (On street parking was not an issue)

Bartenders are super unfriendly. Like it's a hassle to make you pour me a beer. And 2 nights in a row they closed early, just want you to GTF out of there around 9:30-10:30 on Wed/Thurs. Beers are wayyy overpriced, and they're not even anything special German beers. I'm guessing they think Prost can overcharge bc of the German "atmosphere. Don't waste your time here.

Such a wonderful staff very attentive and knowledgeable of menu. Pretzel is such a great item and also comes in a half. Great tables for large parties and a place to watch a game. Very midwestern pub style and local to this neighborhood. Also city parking all around.

I went to Prost in Lincoln park on a Saturday evening with a big group of friends, and we had a fantastic time! The beer hall-style seating with long benches made it easy for our large group to hang out comfortably. A few of us decided to try "the Boot," and while it was a lot of fun, one drink was definitely enough--it's a massive 2-liter serving of any German or domestic beer from the menu. At $36-40, it's a solid deal for beer lovers. Some of our friends opted for cocktails, which were also well-priced and got rave reviews. We shared a couple of pretzels, and they were huge and absolutely delicious, probably one of the best I've had. The mustard varieties and beer cheese dip (my fave) were perfect pairings. Overall, Prost is an ideal spot for a laid-back hangout or a starting point for a night out. Great drinks, tasty snacks, and a fun, casual vibe--I'll definitely be back!

Great bar in the Lincoln Park area service German style food. We stopped in and were very impressed with the beer selection. I am a big fan of Hefeweizen beer and they had multiple different heffes on tab, which is very unusual in Chicago bars. I ended up getting a burger. The cheeseburger was decent, little more greasy than I would. The bar tender working that night was very helpful and we got our beer and food fast. Looking forward to coming back to try other drafts and the German style food I have seen on the menu.

Good vibes...good food...good drinks. Came here because it was close to our parking spot for another bar. We decided to just got in because my friend wanted to yell Prost and see the big pretzel. Anyhoo, we were so surprised by the vibe. Music was great. Plenty of games. The food looked good. The prices on cocktails were reasonable. Enjoyed our time here. Left after 1 drink...decided to come back after venturing to other spots in area. They just didn't compare to the chill Prost Vibe.

I used to go here all the time specifically for the pretzel. It was homemade and literally the fluffiest and best pretzel in the city. Went again recently after some time and was really sad to see the pretzel looked more storebought, was really dense and tasted like fridge :( the beer is still really good here so I'd come for drinks because the vibe is definitely German bar, lively and fun. Good service too, I just miss the OG pretzel

Have been here a couple of times and let's start with the service - it's excellent. The bartenders here a super friendly, make good recommendations and serve you quickly even when it is packed for game days. Next, the food is equally as good with portions to put it lightly, are more than generous. My wife and I attempted to do the combo pretzel platter that was just immense. Starting with the huge pretzel that was fresh and warm it also included fries, schnitzel strips and cheese curds. We didn't come close to finishing it! In terms of ambiance - not surprisingly it was very german themed with a lot of TVs, large group tables and even a slew of board games to enjoy. It is looking a little warn and dated but certainly didn't stop us from having a great time!

I sat with four people and we split a half order pretzel and got our own entries. The pretzel was plenty and we finished it between ourselves. People also ordered the schnitzel, which was huge and we all had leftovers of the schnitzel and fries. Next time I'd recommend splitting a few entrees if you want to finish everything in the moment. Otherwise, it was perfect for getting two meals out of it. The server was really nice. They were a bit busy because it seemed like there was only one guy, but he was quick to greet us and get our order. It definitely felt like a German experience with the wide wooden benches and bar-like atmosphere. I liked how it was calm and inviting while still maintaining the bar quality! We also got ciders which were very good. I'd return just for the pretzel.

The pork schnitzel was big and very crunchy but it was a tad dry and on the salty side. The server did adjust our bill because it was too salty. The beer is good! And the Wisconsin cheese curds were one of the best I have had.

Sunday trivia night at Prost is a blast, and honestly the wurst board is 100% the way to go. The small board with two wursts is already pretty large. I personally LOVE the Sheboygan wurst. The relishes are such pleasurable acidic palette cleansers--cute little gherkin pickles and sauerkraut. The ham and warm potato salad are delicious too! The server was attentive. At the end of the day it is a bar but it is a bar with damn good food.

Came here on recommendations from many. The beers are good , cold , and ready for consumption. Had the schnitzel (first time) and it was delicious. Our waiter was Lucas and he was very attentive to our needs. Gives that old town bar feel , which is always a plus. Recommend this place .

Wife and I stopped in here for drinks and a snack after a long flight from Florida and before dinner at another establishment. Dan our bartender was super friendly and professional. Excellent selection of German beers on tap. We had the pretzel and a Thuringer sausage app. Both were excellent! I highly recommend stopping in here for a bite and a premium brew. You can't go wrong.

I wouldn't recommend, overcharged for items never provided. Refund never issued , cant find anyone , give you runaround. Find the restaurant where server is professional not rude. Not very fresh whatsoever. Spoke to other restaurants , this place has a tendency rip off customer.

Prost is a great German restaurant for a large group. This beer hall has tons of seating and some of the tables look large enough to fit a party of 15 or more. With tons of beer on tap in all different sizes there is no lack of good drinks and a menu filled with good authentic German food. The food we had was very good. We had a party of 5 and shared the pretzel combo to start. What we didn't realize was how much food this would be! The pretzel itself was about the size of a large pizza and once we finished we realized we were stuffed and that none of us needed an entree. I'm a sucker for a soft pretzel and this one didn't disappoint. It was soft and fluffy with a buttery outside and was served with a delicious oniony beer cheese. Inside the pretzel there were French fries, cheese curds and schnitzel strips with an array of sauces. The cheese curds were tasty but had a bit too much breading and was lacking on the cheese portion. There were large clumps of batter with no cheese and some of the part with cheese were all clumped together so a couple of grabs and they were gone pretty quickly. The ranch they were served with, although very thin and runny, was absolutely delicious. The schnitzel strips were also very tasty. Perfectly crispy and tender and the 3 different mustards were a great complement to them. There was a whole grain mustard, spicy and yellow mustard. My favorite was the spicy! The fries were good, and a good vessel for the mustards, ranch and cheese sauce but nothing to write home about. After this board we ordered some desserts to shared for the table. We got a brownie and an apple pie. The brownie was very rich and the apple pie was tasty but sort of soggy. Both of the desserts were served warm but the inside of both were cold which was a disappointment and leads me to believe they had just been zapped in the microwave. The brownie had a cold inside and cold chocolate chips. Had it been warm all the way through I think both would have been a lot better. Another disappointment was the service. Our server was not present often and every time we needed something we had to wait a while and wave him down. When our food came it was dropped off and he left us with no silverware so we had to rip apart piping hot schnitzel with our hands. Once an order was placed it took a long time even for a couple of beers to come out. For a place that calls itself a beer hall I would think pouring a couple of pints shouldn't take all that long. Overall I really enjoyed Prost and would certainly go back again. I just hope for a bit better service next time.

I like this place. Huge, eye-catching pretzels. We got one wurst, kraut, and spaetzle, and the combination was delicious. Nothing was individually amazing but the combination was great. German vibes all around. Abundant and diverse beer selection. Bartenders were busy and good people. Big TV screens everywhere. I recommend. A solid bar that knows who it is.

This is the best spot! Such a hidden gem! So many great options. The staff is sooo awesome. Jake the bartender is our favorite! I feel like I'm In Germany! Great vibes This was literally the best brat I have had. It comes on a pretzel bun which is 10/10. Also had a plate of sauerkraut which I love! I will be back for this, it's delish!

To start off, ambiance was super super loud. I was told that actually this was out of the ordinary and typically it's more quiet and low key. However, that was not my experience this night. We ordered the giant pretzel for starters and this thing is HUGE. It took up an entire pizza board. It was so delicious and the beer cheese was also amazing. For the entree, we got Street Style Schnitzel with pork, but substitute the schnitzel with spaetzle. This dish was sub par for me. I recognize it just might not be my thing, so I didn't like it very much. Others at my table enjoyed it. Our server was not very attentive and we had to flag her down multiple times.

Super fun spot to bring your friends! Great food, specifically their pretzels. Good service as well. Lots on draft and nice that you can multiple different sizes. I recommend getting a boot for a really fun time!

The tap selection is respectable. Around ~25 taps, a mixture of German staples and local breweries including some specialties like Old Irving Prost. Service is really friendly, really enjoyed chatting general sports with the dude behind the pine. To me, this is spot to go in town for a fantastic pretzel. They're massive too. They also make all their sauces (including beer cheese) from scratch. Prooooooost!

I have been coming to Prost since it's original iteration from previous owners back in the mid early 2000s. It was closed down for a prolonged time before being revived by new owners and has existed in its current iteration ever since. The original Prost was great for what it was- a dank German beer hall for college kids that wanted more than a sports bar but still wanted to get riproaring drunk on some higher quality beer. But it was dark, smelled of spilled beer on its sticky floors, and frequently had crappy service. The new iteration has embraced what a place like Prost is while improving the place a great deal. Much cleaner, much brighter inside, and much better service .They still have some great European and European inspired beers on the menu and you can still order a liter of beer as big as your head, or a boot for that matter to get you riproaring drunk. Prost is a great time with the right companions. They have some great German themed snacks on the menu, and the service is good. Great location in Lincoln park. Great spot to go hang out with your friends and watch the game or chat or play a board game while sampling some great beers you might not find anywhere else in Lincoln park.

Nice European inspired beer hall. Lots of European beers on tap. I forget the exact name but it was good, exactly what you'd expect. There's lots of space to sit, both at the bar or at tables. They have lots of games available to play. It's located right on Lincoln Ave near multiple other bars/restaurants, so easy to make it a stop if you're doing a crawl. Not far from the Fullerton L stop, or there's metered parking on Lincoln. I only had time to stay for one beer, but I liked the ambiance and would go back. Be aware though it isn't cheap, at least, $11 for a half liter. It makes sense, it's higher quality stuff and imported, but just don't get caught off guard.

Delicious food in a dive bar-like atmosphere. I ordered the pretzel & it was the best in my life. The assortment of mustards and the beer cheese were on point. I also ordered the pork schnitzel with spaetzle and gravy. Flawless taste and textures. However, I will say that the pretzel is overpriced. Why do you charge $12 for some bread ($22 for the full pretzel!!)

I love German restaurants because of their vibe, drinks, and the songs they play. My favorite dish is usually currywurst, but this place was just okay, nothing special, though. The service and ambiance were excellent, though.

Overall, a good experience, came here with a large group. Service was good, food was good, beer selection is great. The menu is somewhat limited, but if you like sausages you're in luck cause they have plenty to choose from! My only gripe would be that the A/C is lacking on a hot day- pretty sweaty in there!

Picture this: You and 7 of your friends, 4 of which do not live in Chicago, are looking for a place to watch the Final Four. You went to a Blackhawks game earlier that day (it was awesome). The boys are buzzin and ready to drink an irresponsible amount of beer. You walk in here and get a table only because the people who reserved it didn't show up (the good karma is flowing). You get some boots and pass it around the table and play the boot drinking game that no one there had ever heard of I guess. What a time to be alive

Super fun spot for DIFFICULT Sunday night trivia- but attracts a serious crowd! Come prepared for an intense night.. As for drinks and food- you get the whole German experience. The liters are a must in true tradition, and the prices are excellent. The giant pretzel is necessary to share with the group as well! It's super soft and comes with some great dipping cheese and mustard. The cheese curds are also delicious, warm, and crispy.

Prost is across between a German beer hall and a sports bar. We had the LARGE pretzel, which definitely lived up to its name. We also had a medium wurst platter. Bot came with an assortment of mustards and a beer cheese. Needless to say, there is a large selection of German beers. The friendly server (owner) helped us to choose beers and wursts that matched our tastes.

I have been here a few times before but last night really stood out. VIBE: Sunday night is trivia night which was so much fun. It was packed in there (24 teams!) so make sure to get there early if you want to take part in the fun. It's free to play which is awesome. It was loud and the announcer needed a better microphone but it was so much fun. ORDERED: We of course had to get the giant pretzel which is honestly one of the best ones I've ever had. The dipping sauces also set this apart from other pretzels in the city. We also ordered the schnitzel and red cabbage. Both were awesome! To complete the meal we all had a .5 liter of various German beers. Overall a great time ! Tip: make sure to make a reservation for Sunday night if you want to be guaranteed a seat for trivia!

I came here before a show at the Apollo Theater next door on a Thursday night, and there was plenty of space for my party of two without a reservation. Service was great- Both the host and wait staff were very kind and helpful. We were in a bit of a rush and they were very happy to accommodate. We ordered the half pretzel which hit the spot on a cold November evening. The dips actually stole the show. Both the mustards and cheese were amazing. The pretzel was solid, too- I thought it was comical how it was just the full size cut in half! Perfect amount of salt, with my only qualm being it was a bit dry. The ambiance was great, so I'd return to try more of their menu (especially for Oktoberfest!!).

I had a friend in from out of town and he wanted to try this place out. I have been here a couple of times, but only for drinks. Little did he know that he picked the date that Germany was playing Spain. Even so, we got there early enough to be seated in a prime spot up to the bar. We are two guys so that wasn't a problem. The service was actually pretty good, especially for the amount of stuff going around. The food was good too, but I was expecting a little better. The pretzel was only ok and the sausage was fine. The fries were good too. This place is known for their beers which that certainly delivered on that front. We ended up staying for the whole game and while the tie was a little disappointing, the experience was pretty good. I will certainly come back!

Best Bratwurst Plate aka The Wurst Board. Definitely try the Thüringer Wurst. Most authentic and the best Flavor. Great vibe, good German beer and tasty food. I can definitely recommend PROST

Met a friend here for dinner the other night. Got a half liter of a lemon beer from Double clutch brewing plus a cheeseburger with fries + side of cheese curds. Pleased by the level of service and draft selection offered here.

OMG - felt like I was back in Munich but the food was even better! We were hungry and ordered beer, cheese curds and wurst board. The portions were massive! The cheese curds were a healthy portion - freshly battered and fried well / not too greasy. Added bonus was the side of ranch to dip the cheese goodness in. The Wurst board was a feast for the eyes - the pickled veggies, sides and sauces were a nice touch of brightness to balance the sausages and round out a filling meal for two. Come hungry or just grab beers!

Love, love, love this place! My party of five came in for dinner on a Thursday evening, reservation made ahead of time to ensure outdoor seating. Very loud passing trains, nearly overhead, added to the experience in a positive way. Service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Menu options aren't great for vegetarians, but there are good appetizer and side dishes. I had a salad, nothing extraordinary... because it's a salad. The huge pretzel was by far the best pretzel that I've eaten. My meat eating companions, experienced with traditional German food, were very pleased. They raved about the food, the beer, and the experience. We will return during our next Chicago visit.

We love Chicago's German bars and the atmosphere was good and busy, we came here late afternoon on Saturday April 6 2024. Just 2 of us, so a simple order of 2 beers at the bar in the rear. Paid cash and the bartender took a few extra minutes to bring the change, I leave a few $ tip, go sit at a table with our beers and realized we were shortchanged a few $$. No big deal, but for this reason I'll never go back.
