"‘A little piece of France in Wanstead’ is the tagline at this busy and welcoming neighbourhood bistro – and they certainly deliver it. The extensive menu is a roll-call of classic French dishes from escargots and soupe à l’oignon to coq au vin and steak frites. They prove to be well-cooked too, providing satisfying flavours at fair prices. A startlingly good value prix fixe is available throughout the day Tuesday to Thursday and for lunch only on Friday and Saturday." - Michelin Inspector

I’d come back! Food was delicious, we had starter, main and dessert! service was just right and well explained. Atmosphere was good. It does seem a bit small but actually everything went smoothly and didn’t have any complaints..

Absolutely incredible experience at Provender. The service is unmatched and the staff are friendly and willing to explain the menu happily. The food is as authentically French as you can get. I would highly recommend the scallop starter and beef wellington. The duck special was also lovely and fresh. Can’t wait to visit again!

We’ve had a fantastic birthday celebration of a 90years lady, as a group of 8. Wonderful cuisine, presentation and service 🫶🏻 My first time in the Provender, but surely not the last time. Would recommend the iron steak or choice of fish of the day.

Have you ever been to a place that just kerps giving? We have been frequenting this little establishment for many years. Even after they changed ownership you would never know. Just a bit disappointed in myself for not taking more pictures. Today we ordered of off the lunch menu, which is great value for money 2 courses £22, sorry cant remember 3 courses as im always too full to eat the third, but you cam enjoy a sweet treat or some delicious french cheese accompanied with quince jelly. selection is also on par with the food, definitely been chosen for the exquisite foods on the menu.

Absolutely loved this place. The food was lovely. I wish I had ordered the Jerusalem artichoke veloute as it was just stunning. Warm, comforting, full of flavour. The chicory and goats cheese was also beautiful, very fresh, very clean but on a cold day I was jealous of the soup my friend ordered! The steak was cooked beautifully and the dessert was heavenly. We had an amazing evening. The staff were warm, welcoming and so friendly. I will be back!

Definitely worth the visit for lunch, fantastic selection of French cuisine. Every dish I tried had an air of quality and flavours were superb. I tried the gazpacho soup as a starter which was a great balance of spice and tomato flavour. Also tried the lamb and rabbit both melt in mouth good especially the rabbit. Topped off with a creme brulee which was as good as I have tasted. Service was good, welcoming and helpful whilst efficient a very relaxing visit.

The atmosphere was elegant yet welcoming, with soft lighting and gentle background music that made it perfect for a relaxing dinner. The highlight of the evening was definitely the meat. I ordered a beef fillet, cooked to perfection and served with a classic French red wine sauce — rich, flavorful, and wonderfully balanced. The meat was tender, juicy, and practically melted in my mouth. The seasonal vegetables on the side complemented the dish perfectly. The service was excellent: attentive, polite, and knowledgeable about the menu. The wine list was also impressive, with a great selection of French wines that paired beautifully with the main course. Overall, a fantastic dining experience that I would highly recommend to anyone who appreciates authentic, well-prepared French cuisine. I’ll definitely be coming back to try more dishes!

The service was excellent and the food was really great, some of the nicest I’ve had in the UK. Definitely worth the trip, in reality it is only 30mins out of central London on the Central line. I would definitely return when I’m in London next.

Yelp
This is a local neighbourhood French restaurant that looked after us really well. Its appearance is cosy and inviting from the street (ok, maybe I just gravitate towards anywhere with fairy lights outside!). Inside it was bustling on a Friday night but we'd booked ahead. We were greeted warmly and they usefully took our coats to hang up on wall hooks. We were with a couple who don't live far, who'd warned us the head waiter walking around was actually the owner, and had shown some typically French (abrupt!) service when they'd been before, sighing when they'd taken longer than 10 seconds to choose wine. I actually didn't mind his matter-of-fact style - he made sure we always had everything we needed and we had plenty to chat about with each other on this occasion rather than make small talk with him! We got through 2 bottles of a well-priced Pinot Noir with dinner, and took the locals' suggestion of a sharing platter of starters which was great for a craver of variety like me. Between the 4 of us I think we all had different favourites from the salami slices to the prawns to the pate to the stuffed tomatoes - so everything got finished. I liked that they served the big platter on a raised stand too - a nice touch so we could all get involved. We all chose steaks for main (FOMO much?!) - I went for the steak frites which was a 225g flat iron that arrived perfectly medium rare as requested and I really enjoyed. I think my guy was less impressed with the rib eye so take note! The only part of the interior that wasn't as pleasant as the rest was the toilet - perfectly clean, lovely moisturiser etc but just absolutely freezing! I suppose it hurries you up... I saw plenty of other things on the very reasonably-priced menu that I'd love to have ordered too, so I'd be quite happy coming back if I was in the area - as it looks like plenty of the locals do!

Yelp
Went for a second time and never disappoints. Very unassuming but tasty French classics. Twice baked cheese souffle, green salad. Steamed Normandy mussels, white wine, butter, parsley, french fries. Charcuterie selection. Madame Sibilia, Lyon. Saucisson & Rosette. potted goose & pork, veal tongue remoulade & croutons. Six 'petit gris' snails, parsley, tarragon & garlic, crisp baguette. French free range chicken supreme 'roast on the bone ' Espelette, lemon & soft green herbs.
