Honestly, my favorite bar in the city right now. The staff are absolutely amazing and they make you feel like you are at an extension of your home. But you can't beat their sandwiches for lunch

Went in with a friend who doesn’t drink. I ordered a vodka soda, then asked for a seltzer water. The bartender responded with, “What do you think this is, a BYOB bar? Do you think this is a sober bar?” That’s not witty, funny, or “edgy”, it’s rude and unprofessional. Ordering water in a bar is normal. So is being respectful to paying customers. If this is the attitude toward guests, especially those who choose not to drink, I won’t be back and I won’t recommend this place to anyone.

Stopped for a late lunch based on a recommendation from a friend and this place did not disappoint! The gal at the bar was super nice and helped me choose the Pavarotti. It was unbelievable. I even had half the next day and I think it got better over time. I didn’t know I liked artichokes but I definitely do on that sandwich. I may be dreaming about it for awhile and I will definitely be back next time I’m in the area.

Great corner bar in Tribeca. Small but cozy inside. Nice wrap around the corner outside seating. Nothing fancy but that’s the idea. On a nice day nothing better than having a few adult beverages at a place like this. Great time! 😁

A great laid back watering hole. Friendly bartender. Decent tap beer selection along with some local choices. Reasonable prices. Nice ambiance with music playing. Dart board. Amazing mosiac tile floor. There's a couple of TVs to watch the ballgame as well.

As a first timer in NY I felt like this place stopped time for me. Husband and I randomly dipped in here one night and it felt like a place where everything melted away. The hustle and bustle quieted, relaxed atmosphere. Kind bartender and the best caprese panini I’ve ever had. Shout out to the gentleman that made it for us.

Insanely rude woman bartender. I spent 20 minutes patiently waiting for a drink and she basically threw it at me (I didn't complain or anything to deserve rude treatment) along with many eye rolls. Literally the drink splashed out on my arm and shirt when she slammed the can down. Not sure what I did to deserve that but this is super unnecessary to treat people that way (it was like 4pm too and legit my first drink). Charged $6 for my bf's club soda too which feels excessive. Cool dive bar overall but cmon, treat people with decency unless they truly don't deserve it.

Perfect fresh sandwiches with a lot of options, some nice beers and a great chill vibe as well. Hidden gem in New York.

Puffy's Tavern is such a unique space. It's a little dive-y in terms of ambiance, but they have really great sandwiches and higher end liquor as well. Service has been friendly the few times I've been. I'll go back if I'm in the neighborhood!

It's not a place to go with your child, but the ambiance and service are good. I ordered a Panino Donatella, and while it was tasty, it arrived very cold. However, everything was fine afterward.

Puffy's Tavern is a great sports bar to watch a game or play darts in the back. The place isn't huge, but you can still bring in a decent sized group and have fun.

Never disappoints. I ran over there to get a quick sandwich for the 15 minutes that I had. The sand is ready in five minutes and the bartender was so nice that she even talked me into having a beer real quick. Recommended to everyone get the Louisa.

Puffys is awesome, great drinks and great food. The vibe is also awesome to watch sports of hang with a group.

A friend of mine used to work in Tribeca and recommended that my husband and I stop by Puffy's while we were on a recent NYC visit. We were staying down the street and so before departing we decided to go for an early lunch. Puffy's is known as the neighborhood watering hole and is famous for delicious sandwiches. It looks a bit sketchy on the outside but once you walk in you feel like you've gone back in time in a good way. This place reminds me of so many NYC places of yesteryear. It is clearly a local hangout and not a Tribeca tourist trap. We were greeted with a warm welcome and had our choice of seats as they had just opened. Puffy's has a full bar. If fancy drinks or blender drinks are your thing, I am not sure this is the place to go. I could be wrong but I see this as a classic cocktail, beer and wine place. We however were there for the sandwiches. There is a sandwich menu with a nice variety including choice of breads. You are asked if you want your bread "crunchy" or "soft", We both opted for crunchy ciabatta and we both chose the Gladiator. This sandwich had Italian cold cuts...prosciutto and soppresatta, mozzarella, olive paste...it was so yummy and fresh tasting. The décor is decidedly mostly original and old-school: Tin ceiling, wood tables with copper inserts, big wooden bar. The floor looks like an original tile but I think it might be new because it is in such good shape. Older tile tends to have some cracks in it and would look more worn. Nonetheless, the vibe was heartwarming to me as fewer and fewer of these places exist in the city these days. Prices are quite reasonable. There are two unisex bathrooms which were clean but a little run down. There is a dart board if playing darts is your thing. We chatted with the bartender who was lovely (originally from Croatia) and learned that Puffy's is hopping in the evenings. I can understand why. If I lived anywhere near here, I would be a regular. I will be regular whenever I go to NYC. If you find yourself in Tribeca, check out Puffy's. It's a relic from the good-old-days of NYC. Enjoy a great sandwich and a pitcher of beer. You'll leave feeling well-fed, well-taken care of and happy.

Had a good buzz going on a Thursday night. There was a crowd inside and outside, and drinks were decently priced. Convenient location to a bunch of nearby restaurants.

The bartender hand wrote a tip onto my bar tab. She handed me the bill, and with a straight face, said that I could add more if I liked. I emailed the bar the next day to let them know what was going on there. No one replied.

Holly sammich, 12 inches of packed in goodness that would make a porn star jealous. Throw in a gut filling brewsky selection and Daddy's home! Tribecca is to the artys film industry what hells kitchen is to the working stiff McDrunks are. I never really noticed Puffys before, kinda looking like an iron worker dive hang from the street. When you enter your initial thoughts will be confirmed that during the late afternoon to happy hour for the most part it is. Nothing special, but this Yelper has learned that all tooooo often there's always more than what meets the eye upon 1st impression. So, I pulled up a seat at the wooden bar furnished the brass foot kick and a few Big screens and corner dart board. Ordered a guiness and a magners with a side of ice as any good Irishmen should. The eardrum blasting 80's rock tore through the airwaves forcing more intimate conversations especially with the iron workers laughing rather loud in the corner of the small watering hole. Immediately the dichotomy of suits to orange fluorescent work garp becomes quite apparent. Leave those pretentious bones at the door to chew on else where. A daily up to 5pm sandwich menu filled with prosciutto and sopressata with toppings like; balsamic glazed sundried tomatos and fresh mozz, arugula and olive paste along with some olive oil nicely piled between artisian flat sub bread. I was like well this guy is hungry and those sammy's look like they need to get into my belly especilly at around $11 for an ample stack. OMG and when you describe chow with OMG you know you're in for a tantalizing tongue dance. I was blown away. Oh how I wished this place was on the corner next to my house. Honey are you walking the dog again? Hell ya, baby! If you dig a kick ass sandwich washed down with a choice brew, at painfully affordable prices with quality ingredients then this is worth the 1 train stop just off Franklin.

Great spot. If you are a tourist this is a great spot to stop by and drink. Friendly. Great vibe!!! Enjoy!

Tribeca institution. A piece of history not only for NYC but myself. One of the first bars I went to when coming to NYC in the late 70's Great bartender with no attitude. Divey but not horribly so. Just perfect for a beer in the afternoon or evening. Gets crowded!!!!

Love this place. Despite everyone being in collared shirts it's pretty much a dive bar but the vibes are great. 5 dollar beers during happy hour and the staff is super friendly.

Fun place. Great selection of draft beers. They have a great Saturday happy hour. I liked the tunes. You can't go wrong with classic rock. I wish that they were not having a private party. I would of stayed longer.

Go during the day for an amazing sandwich. Go during the evening for a solid night of drinking. Puffy's is like a long-lost artifact in TriBeCa: A local bar that isn't super high-end or some cheesy Irish pub, just your local watering hole. Regulars hang in the back and play darts, others hang and just have a drink. Come on the weekends and it's nearly empty. Come during the week and, if it's a Friday, it'll be packed. Either way, it's low key enough that you'll enjoy yourself.

I agree 100% with Brad K. on this one - Puffy's is a nice little dive with great staff, dim lighting, and a solid playlist ranging from RHCP to Rihanna, with some eclectic curveballs thrown in for good measure. Aside from the $3 PBRs, they had Boddingtons and the part pale ale, part wheat beer, part cream ale Sixpoint Sweet Action on tap...nice! (Fun fact: did you know Sweet Action beer was named after a porn magazine? Neither did I, but our bartender did!) If you're hungry, they serve individual pizzas starting at $6 for plain cheese - additional for toppings. The available side space alongside the long bar counter is peppered with tables, and can get a little cramped with people standing around, so our group of nine made our way to the back area, played some darts, and had plenty of room to rest our coats and spread out. All in all, a great place to hang after a late dinner and cap off our Friday night.

Holy finance douchebag central, Batman! My friends recommended this place (because they were previously here on a weekend), but oh man, don't come here on a weeknight. It gets crowded with the worst types. Good beer selection and a good happy hour though!

Random find, but it was quiet when we went and the bartender was attentive. My partner enjoyed his cosmopolitans and the sandwich we shared was delicious.

Puffy's Tavern NY Manhattan Tribeca 1pm Sunday 24th July 2016 Five Stars I cannot believe how many dive bars are in downtown Manhattan: The Patriot, Jeremy's, Raccoon Lounge, etc. Puffy's was absolutely awesome. We came here on Sunday to watch the final day of competition of the 2016 Crossfit Games. We had the entire bar to ourselves. It was Happy Hour All Day meaning $5 Pints. I had 3 Boddington's and played a ton of free darts. I also had a $10 Fellini Sandwich. I think you are supposed to get a choice of bread but no selection was offered. The bread was a bit hard, porous, with a dusting of flour. THe Sopressata was salty and bit spicy. The half moon shaped mozzarella was soft but dry for being "fresh." The olive oil marinated hot peppers and Arugula added some complexity to the sandwich. It was overall good and filling. The Solitary Bartender made sure we were all taken care of. Definitely a place to go to drink and be merry.

Excellant small pub with outdoor seating but not like everywhere else I've been. Here, there is a mix of seating outside, whatever they could find and that made it appealing. I did some walking and found lots of places that had outdoor seating but at most you were in a box, in the gutter, not my idea of comfortable. I sat out in front at Puffys on an old wooden cart, on the sidewalk. Interesting atmosphere inside with round bar height tables and I think I saw booths. Bathrooms are my deciding factor and theirs is adequate but not someplace my wife would be comfortable using. The younger crowd that was there when I was didn't seem to mind but an older couple I met outside brought up the restrooms. After all, if you eat and drink you're going to need facilities. Me, I don't care much but the wife does and that's why I'm a star shy. Still, if I'm in the neighborhood, I'll stop back for a beer. BTW did I mention their tap beers? Had several on tap but the only one that interested me was Coors Light. How many places have that on tap.

Came here for my friend's birthday drinks. Very crowded but the crowd didn't bother me. The bartender told me it was "too much work" to serve us lemon drop shots.... okay so I asked him "how about vodka with something sweet" and he goes "I refuse to serve you because your friend didn't tip me"... what??? The guy he pointed at wasn't my friend and how did that affect me?? Not wasting my time and money with the unprofessional behavior. When we left, my friends told me they were not served either because the bartender was "too busy" to make a jagger bomb. What. Would never come here again. Hire people that treat people with respect.

This is an awesome hidden little semi-dive semi just casual unpretentious pub with a dart board in the back and if you're feeling frisky a "shotski!" Good music mix, nice sound, an unexpectedly decent bump to the base! When we first arrived the pretty dark haired bartender was unfortunately borderline rude, didn't actually greet us just walked over and stood there while we looked up at the beer menu with not so much as a greeting or smile, but we found a friendly face and pleasant above-and-beyond service in the bouncer/ bar back Charlie (it's now pointed out to me that he's actually part owner!). Bartender chick opened up later letting us know they had small pizzas that get delivered frozen from Qns and she was right they were actually pretty good!! We liked the way they were sliced too, super easy for sharing and grabbing a bite between dart turns. Would definitely go back!!

I haven't shut a bar down since my early 20s. I'm kinda of proud I was able to do it again. The best part of this bar is that it is unassuming, laid-back and simple. We loved the dart board and played all night long. The drinks were well poured, very inexpensive for NYC and the service was excellent. I wish we ventured here on our first night in the city, I'm sure we would have returned again.

Had to make an order for my team at work, made sure to have the orders 100% correct and when making the call to order the person taking it was being extremely rude, and on top of this the orders were completely wrong even if the receipt was correct all this only after me having to endure attitude from the restaurant for trying to make sure it was correct - perhaps that condescending attitude is reflective of why the food came out how it did anyways Never again coming here

I was hoping to stop into a little dive bar for an afternoon beer. I didn't like the vibe in here and the bartender was not very friendly. Maybe if you live in the neighborhood, this is one of the locals bar. I only saw one other guy there with his son. The bartender was really friendly with him. And actually continued his conversation with him and he wrote down the wifi password for me and he just handed it to me. He did mention I should use all caps and the password didn't even work. And he didn't even bother to ask. Life is too short to be paying $6 dollars for a crappy experience. Thanks but no thanks!

I always come back thanks to the amazing experience give to my friends and I from the manager Charlie and also Brandon, it's always a pleasure coming back to great drinks from these amazing bartenders, thanks a lot for making the best drinks in NYC!

The sandwich and price were good, however wasn't the biggest fan of there being just one person running and serving the whole place. If you are not in a rush and are in the mood for a beer and a solid sandwich, I would say you should definitely give this place a try. I was considering giving this place a 3 for the lecture I got about how annoying it is to split the bill, yet the taste of my sandwich has saved the day.

This hole in the wall bar is definitely a dive bar which has its positives in that it is extremely affordable for the area of town it is located in. There are beers on draft for five dollars and not a bad selection at that. The selling point was finding this gem on a Saturday evening and essentially having the space all to ourselves. The place offers a dart board which apparently is hard to come by in the city especially in Tribeca. I was in a group of five and we played darts to our hearts content. We kept score on the chalkboard on the wall. We were not rushed at all, service was fast and the bartenders were friendly. Although we did not try the food, next time we visit we will be sure to give that menu a go. We are glad that we stumbled upon this place!! Would definitely consider returning for happy hour during the week!

Wandering the streets of SoHo, lunch was a no-go, until I stumbled upon Puffy's Tavern. Don't be fooled by the bland exterior, their sandwiches are anything but inferior. Yes, at a place called Puffy's. An Italian sammich dream come true, this will bring out the stallion in you. Prosciutto, sopressata and fresh mozzerelle! Salami, tomatoes, peppers hotter than hell! A crispy bread or a flattened panini, whatever you please is placed between these carbs neatly! Channel Donatella, Giselle or Valentina. Or be a Soprano, De Niro or Sofia! The choices are endless, can't you see? When bread, meats and cheeses collide, how could you be more happy? Puffy's, I will forgive you for your weird ass name... because when I enter your doors I've got meat on the brain. Yum.

They really know how to stuff a big punch into small spots. This place was just a happen to find gem. We were walking the town and we spotted this Wooden Store encased in a brick building. Very charming. Walk inside they have a handful of TV's playing college football. Behind the bar you have highly efficient Walter. (simply love him for his characteristic name) Walter is alone back there but manages to make sure nobody has an empty glass. Offers everyone a hot or cold sandwich freshly made right there behind the bar. You get the feel he's got regulars he greets personally with a hug and conversation. All while pouring Ale or mixing cocktails... Fantastic. If you are in the area stop into this PUB.

Came here in the middle of the day on Saturday and it was surprisingly pretty filled....with more babies than there should of been. The baby in a bar thing never made sense to me, no matter what time of day it is. Stopped in for a bite to eat and the sandwiches are actually pretty good. Well drinks were $8 which are a little pricey, but all I wanted at that point was a drink and wasn't going to complain. If I'm ever in the area, I'll stop in again, but it isn't a go out of your way kind of place to visit.

Perfect dive bar ! Puffies are great. Always welcome. Kind, careful. Only regulars. Prices are very cool especially in Tribeca. Jukebox available but on weekdays, if you ask kindly, they can play your songs.

Great place to stop and relax! Good food, simple and healthly. Good, attentive service. Good place for low key lunch.

Came in on a Monday. Mellow crowd, typical beer selections, running about $3-$8 a beer. Nothing crazy on the liquor option. Music is classic/ modern rock hits with 3 TVs covering. Mixed crowd of accents & suits. Regulars afoot, chatting it up with the bartenders...the aroma of fruited beers lingers past as the thud of the dart board creeps the hum of 90's alternative music. I could keep going but fuck, it's a bar...grab a drink or move along!

Ok, if you are looking for a great local pub. Cold beer, good food and a no frills atmosphere. This is the spot.

One of my favorite spots to stop into when I'm in Tribeca. And by stop into, i mean that i come for one drink and end up staying for hours. Puffy's is a tiny dive with a big heart. Its run down and as my friend said last night, it smells like home. The bartenders are always down for a good chat and i think ive gotten a free pint every time I've sat at the bar! The clientele is a funny mix of regulars, wall streeters grabbing a night cap, young professionals celebrating a coworker, and always always always at least one drunk older gentleman hitting in you. Honestly, its great-- thats how you know its a good dive!! Last night our man Ethan played solid tunes, hung out, and took care of the other 6 or so patrons in the bar. Puffy's is great place to unwind and chill after a long day. I promise you can only leave here happy!

Kelso from a clean tap is charming. The sandwiches look delicious, too bad dinner was just around the corner. Great service, friendly faces. Old New York without J.Crew and Banana Republic next door.

A hidden Tribeca gem! The sandwiches alone would make a regular out of anyone but add to it friendly, attentive staff and great prices and you have perfection. WIN! WIN! WIN! I highly recommend the Luisa but I have yet to try a sandwich I haven't enjoyed. The sandwiches are made with the tastiest bread and great fresh ingredients. The staff are quick, efficient and friendly making it a joy to lunch at Puffy's but you can always grab a sandwich to go too. Another great aspect of Puffy's is their prices. They are very affordable. Happy Hour prices are offered most of the day ($4 for a beer) and their sandwiches are listed at $11 or less. I highly recommend stopping in and enjoying some food and time at Puffy's!!

One of my favorite places for lunch - very relaxed vibe and sandwiches are simple and on point.

The service was very friendly when I ordered, and I was able to ask a couple of questions without feeling like bothering the guy. Water and the food was brought to my table promptly too. But I wasn't checked on during the meal and ran out of water. I didn't ask because I needed to get back to work. The "tre" was cut into four pieces, and at least one was not fully warmed up when it came to the chicken, which tasted like it had been stored in the fridge. The bar itself is brightly lit with windows on two sides. Nice to sit in.

I wish I could give this establishment 0 stars. It was one of my friend's last weekend (10/24/15) in NYC and after eating in Chinatown, we walked downtown chatting looking for someplace to stop and grab a drink. I work on Harrison street, pass Puffy's every day, and have had multiple customers recommend I stop in-so we did. I wish I could go back in time and change our decision. Upon entering it's nothing special, it was crowded because a work event was being held there-no problem to us because we just stood by the bar. But the real issue, the reason that I made myself this account to review, is the bartender. She was downright nasty for no reason when we were nothing but polite to her. We ordered, and after taking our orders she singled out one person in our group to ID (we were all of age, and ironically they happened to be the oldest-though they were also male so I'm guessing women are rarely carded). When he asked "why me?" she rudely responded "because you look like you're like, 12." (keep in mind he's 22, and wasn't snarky in his question, just curious.) After we were served another of my friends was putting her change away, and the bartender turned to her and said "you know, if you want to keep being served you're going to have to tip, that's just a fact." Now, we were planning to order a few drinks and stay awhile, and would have tipped at the end of our tab. HOWEVER, regardless if we did or did not, you don't treat customers this way. As someone who has worked in the service industry, you must treat customers with respect-and if you come at them nasty and rude, you're not going to be tipped (we didn't tip her. Not after being treated like that.) We drank the drinks we paid for and got the hell out of there. I understand everyone has off days here and there, and had she apologized it would have made a wold of difference. However, she didn't, she was rude when we gave her no reason to be, and it's unfortunate because I work only a few doors down and certainly would have recommended it to people and made it a "usual" spot. Alas, I will take my hard earned money elsewhere. *Sidenote-I can't help feeling like she treated us this way because we were obviously the youngest people in there (though we were all of legal age). Either way, there's no excuse for her behavior, and we'll never come here again.

Been to this bar twice now and really liked it both times. Its a nice little pub in an area that doesn't have many like it. Intimate but usually crowded. They have a few tables, a nice bar and a dart board in the back. They also have two POS systems and a touchtones to play your music. On a more serious note, they have good $5 IPA specials and the bartenders have been extremely friendly both times I have gone. Will deff be back. Great bar.

Only Cool, Down to F*cking Earth Bar in this Area. After the Lames & Typical $ hungry fools took over. This place is untouched and Laidback.

OK so there is no way a dive bar will get 5 stars from me but this place is a solid 4 star establishment. I came in late one night with a coupe of friends. The bartender was on point and didn't delay my drinks; which of course was my purpose for being there. The entire place had a good feel. The customers were friendly and joyous but not loud or obnoxious. There is seating along the bar and some small tables on the edge. There is also a dart board in the back. They do have house darts so go in and have some fun. Music was very good and the lighting was not too dark but thankfully not at all bright either. Very friendly and I hope to make it back again -- sorry I don't have the name of the bartender he was friendly and cute - but taken .. too bad (LOL). They also make sandwiches which I was told are very good. Maybe I need to try this place during the day.

Crystal is the best bartender ever. I never want to leave here ever. Wish they had warsteiner Oktoberfest though hehe

The bartender is clueless and useless. Drinks are well priced for the city. So that is the best part. Dart board is fun. Bring your darts. The bar darts are crap. Two small bathrooms. It reminds me of the basement of my college frat house. WIGB? For a quick cheap drink $7 whisky, and fast round of darts, maybe. I would never think of eating here.

Am so glad to see that Puff's still exists. First time I went in there was as a Student at Pace in 1973 it was a great late night drinkers dive Bar and place to finish the night. From 1981 -1990 I lived on Greenwich st and spent just about every Friday and Saturday ( and most other )nights always had a great beer list on that mirror behind the bar and a reasonable though tiny sandwich menu The only thing I see different on these pictures is a New Dart board. back then they had the ONLY dart board in the hood. After I left New York in 1990 I returned 3 times a year and stopped at Puffy's every time. The last time I was there was in 2006 and it was still the best drinking bar in lower Manhattan And if I get back to New York, Puffy's is on my list doldhipster formally known to Puff's staff and customer's as Steve Limo

A great spot to meet a friend for a casual beer. The men in this spot will definitely outnumber the women. I find it pretty easy to find a seat making it easy to relax after work and not feel the need to impress anyone.

Puffy's Tavern is a nice break from all the swanky restaurants and bars in TriBeCa. This place is a no thrills, to the point bar. It's a little dark, but it adds to the feel to it. Order a beer or cider from the bar tender and enjoy a chill evening catching up with friends. There's a dart board in the back for you to enjoy or you can watch the people walk by Puffy's hoping you'll see Taylor Swift (her penthouse is across the street and she did go to Puffy's once according to the bartender).

Oooh, yummo! Get this food in your belly stat! Service is great, friendly staff. Neighborhood fave for sure.
