Pyeongyang Myeonok

"This establishment has been open for three generations, serving some of the finest bowls of Pyeongyang cold buckwheat noodles in the city. The long queue outside the entrance constitutes a part of the street’s daily scenery during the sweltering summer months. The clear meat broth is delicately seasoned and the buckwheat noodles have a pleasant texture, firm and not too chewy. Steamed dumplings and boiled pork slices, served warm, are also standout dishes." - Michelin Inspector

I wasn’t always a fan of 평양냉면, but after plenty of trial and error with different styles, I’ve come to appreciate—not quite love, but genuinely enjoy—its simplicity and depth. Now that summer is officially here and temperatures are climbing past 27°C, it feels like the perfect time for cold noodles. A long wait is almost guaranteed. There are no tablets or kiosks to take your number or your order—everything is done the old-fashioned way: simple and manual. Don’t expect to be handed water after finally sitting down either. It’s self-serve, though you’ll only realize that once you see customers bring water to their own tables. Busy places like this aren’t known for exceptional service, but that’s just part of the experience. The 냉면 and 만두 are excellent, and that’s more than enough for me. After having 평양냉면, I usually don’t think about it again for another month or two. Until next time~

Very historic place and specializes in Northern Korean cold noodles and mandoo. I didn't like the broth and not strong, so you might want to put vinegar or peppers. They offer paid vallet parking which costs 3000 won.

The cold noodles are perfect on a summer day! So refreshing. A lot of locals were here even when it was winter so the food is quite good. Mandus are huge! The portion is quite big so if you don’t have a big appetite, it’s sufficient to split with another person. Love the white pork! Sauce is divine.

A bit disappointing really. The spicy cold noodles (Naengmyeon) were great. Were they better than other places? Probably not, but they were really good. The big let down was the dumplings. Not sure the normally reliable Mark Weins was eating the same dumpling we were in his video - they were bland, over minced and pretty unappetising.

We placed an order, but a different dish was served. Many of the staff could not understand English or Korean well. Overall, everything was disappointing for the price.

We ordered two cold noodles, one with double size and we didnt get Kimchi. They say Kimchi is not only for those who order only noodles. This made us a bit annoyed because double size noodles costs more than other dish and still we couldnt get Kimchi. Besides, noodle machine they use which is located near the entrance is not maintained at all. There was no evidence that they are actually cleaning it. If you saw it you’d know. I would never go here again. There’re tons of restaurants that sell this kind of noodle in Seoul.

I was invited to the restaurant with a group of old Korean people and I can see that they really enjoyed the meal. I mean this humble restaurant seems to be the favorite of local people. - Dumplings were served firstly, they were big and tasty but not too fatty because pork was mixed with a kind of vegetable like onion and tofu, and spring onion. Don't take 2 or 3 otherwise you'll get full. Save stomach for the next. - Boiled pork was juicy. Beef was soft and moist but seasoning of beef was a bit sweet for me. - Cold noodle was interesting. I will come back to try it because I was so full the other day 😂 - Kimchi was very good as well. - Save the best for the last. Yes the ice cream was fantastic. A sparkling note to end the meal with fresh and joy.

I’m a huge fan of this dish and my wife, a Korean national born and raised here is a fan of the dish, as well. Both of us felt that the food was just average, both broth and noodle, but very overpriced. The one good dish was the dumplings (mandu) which were somewhat bland but very delicate and tasty. Service was typical for large establishments such as this but certainly nothing to complain about.
