The 23 Best Bakeries In London

"For: Rice pudding tart Quince is all about the three B's: baking, Britishness, and brownness. UK produce is what gets this tiny Islington bakery going and, though you will still find freshly baked ‘bread sticks’ as well as cookies, sandwiches, and a totally irresistible umami-heavy brown butter bun, it’s the rice pudding tart that gets us going the most. Mixing childhood nostalgia, memories of Ambrosia, and serious baking finesse, a slice of this tart—all crumbly pastry and sweet and savoury set rice—is appropriate at any hour of the day." - rianne shlebak, sinead cranna, daisy meager

Quince Bakery Review - Islington - London - The Infatuation

"If your weekend routine involves picking up a bouquet of tulips and an impeccably made pastry, you’ll more than likely find yourself trotting over to join Quince Bakery’s queue sharpish. The tiny Islington bakery's focus on British-style baking means it stands out from the crowd. Francophiles: cycle away because there isn’t a laminated croissant in sight. Instead, you’ll find a selection of rustic-sounding, London-priced goodies both savoury and sweet. There’s a brilliant brown butter bun, a cold rice pudding tart that’s as irresistible as it sounds, and lovely crunchy country stick. There are sandwiches and cookies too, as well as flavoured scones, and though you can kind of perch at the window counter, you’re better off escaping the crowd of hungry clogs and enjoying the park over the road. photo credit: Koray Firat photo credit: Koray Firat photo credit: Koray Firat photo credit: Koray Firat" - Jake Missing

This is the best bakery I have ever been lucky enough to find. The rustic deep flavours and quality of ingredients shines through every mouthful. It is different to any other offering and perhaps compared to the average offering elsewhere the visual appeal can throw you initially but be brave. It is well worth the trip.

Tried it on a couple of occasions but it didn’t hit my pastry spot unfortunately. Tried the aubergines sandwich which was nice but bread was soggy, mushroom pie was average for me as well, brown butter bun was nice and fig biscuits wasn’t for me. Staff always nice and friendly even when it is super busy which is a plus.

Small and unassuming but perfectly formed shop. Arguably the best oat cookie I've ever eaten (buttery, savoury and all round perfect) with a great selection of non bakery items. It is clear that the folk at Quince love what they do and that shows with how they talk about their products and the joy it seems to give them.

nice! but I feel like I just wasn’t there on an ideal day, which is okay. i just didn’t find much that appealed to me, so i got their classic browned butter bun. no real complaints except it was a liiiittle dry, wish there was more filling or that the glaze was more glazy, less crumbly. chestnut cake was great, moist, although a little too sweet and could have benefitted from a more sour frosting. tried one of their sammies and the bread was WOW! so i compliment that! overall, it’s a super cute location, lovely staff, and i’d be willing to go back, but it didn’t convince me quite yet. i’ll update next time i go hopefully.

Amazing bakery, a real gem, and the perfect addition to the local landscape. Always friendly staff, great selection of bakes, and often fresh out of the oven on a Saturday morning. The Einkorn cookies rock the house and the bread options don’t disappoint. Highly recommended.

I may have eatbe the best non-chocolate chip cookie of my life. I got the oat cinnamon cookie and it was amazing. I could eat this daily and don't think I'd get bored of it. Small bakery with a big variety to choose from with baked products. A little something for everyone out there. I'd come back here for that cookie again.

Friendly, welcoming staff. Some of the baked goods were not to my taste (more rustic than I expected), but they specifically aim for traditional baking styles and sustainability, so I won't hold that against them. I did find their candied orange oat cookie to taste of butyric acid (vomit), though. They sell local produce in the shop, too.
