Cult Fast-Food Chain Flooding San Diego With Fried Chicken - Eater San Diego

"The fastest-growing chain in the U.S., which counts over 350 locations worldwide, opens its 10th eatery in California and the first (of many) in San Diego County today. Known for having faster drive-thru service than all other big fast-food chains, Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers’ new Santee outpost is the only one to boast a double drive-thru. Founded in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the chain has amassed a serious cult following for its streamlined menu, which offers “fresh, never ever frozen chicken fingers” that are fried to order and served with secret recipe Cane’s sauce, coleslaw, crinkle-cut fries, and Southern staples including Texas toast and sweet tea." - Candice Woo

Chicken was good and sauce was great. Portion sizes are huge with the garlic bread , coleslaw and chicken fingers. A bit pricy though to have 25 chicken fingers for $47 before taxes. But the meal deals were ok, the meal with 6 fingers was $18. The sweet tea was so good as well. Quite busy though. Many people always coming in. But service was fast. The guy that served us could be a littler charmer.

It has been a long time since I visited Cene's. This is my first visit to Cene's in Santee and it is hard to find a place to park my car. If you go through the drive-through, it's no problem.

Google
Good chicken good French fries great sauce I just go through the drive thru some times they forget my extra sauce or my ketchup or a straw I mean actually every time I go there there forget something haha but the food is good the chicken strips are a little on the smaller side this place gets busy and can be hard to get parking if you want to eat inside the workers are nice Overall decent place

Google
After more than 3 years, I finally had Canes again, and it was totally worth it! We went late, around 10 PM, and it stays open until 3:30 AM, which was perfect. Even though it was a Friday night and the place was packed, with tough parking and a long drive-thru line, we got lucky and found a parking spot! The food made it all worthwhile. The chicken was sooo delicious, crispy, with great sauce and I loved the coleslaw and sweet tea. It’s affordable, too. The server was nice despite the crowd, though we had to speak up to hear each other over the noise.

Google
Yummy! The chicken fingers are perfect for little fingers. Well seasoned but not spicy, The chicken sandwich feeds any hungry teen and or adult. The coleslaw one of the best on the market. The fries were a bit limp but the rest of the food more than made up for them.

Google
Fun place to eat. Unfortunately the food does not live up to its hype. Will not be going back. The lady giving us our food made a big deal about the cane sauce. I had bought extra sauce and she made a big deal about giving us what we paid for. Chicken is nothing special. Not that much seasoning so it’s kinda plain. Fries are good.

Google
The food was so tasty. Great service, the food came quickly, it was hot and full of flavor. This time, it wasn't as busy as last time. The menu options are basic but effective. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Stephanie Contreras

Google
Can't complain, it's good chicken but I wish there was some seasoning options or at least ranch because the sauce ain't saucing. Lemonade is one of my faves. Customer service is good but have had some unfriendly interactions, I'm no attitude checker, I'm no mood adjuster 🤷🏽‍♀️. Dining atmosphere is family friendly. That's all.

Yelp
Wow this be the best service ever. The employee saw that I had my hands full with two children under two and was so helpful. The food and lemonade were perfection as always. Surprise! Lemonade is green and I love the holiday spirit. I sat inside and it was so peaceful even though I had my children with me. The seating outside also looked lovely and clean. I didn't catch the employee that went above and beyond but thank you for brightening my day because it was a rough day for me.

Yelp
People are quick to give fast food locations bad reviews, but I don't see a reason to give this Raising Cane's less than 4 stars. Definitely hop out of your car, and go inside to place an order instead of waiting in the super long drive-thru. Today we each ordered the box combo, which comes with 4 chicken fingers, toast, fries, coleslaw, a drink, and cane's sauce. The cost isn't too bad for a combo, and it seems they mostly just do combos here. The food came out quickly and it's pretty good chicken. The seasoning isn't anything "special" but the texture of the chicken fingers is good. The flavor can get a little bit tiring (one-note) by the time you're on the 4th one, which is why I'm docking it a star. The toast, though, which I always get double of instead of the coleslaw, because it's so soft and buttery. There are a ton of tables inside this establishment and we enjoyed dining in here.

Yelp
I've never had a bad meal out of this place! Service is quick, fast and friendly, and I think they have the best Chicken of all of the fest food chains

Yelp
Went to the location on Father's Day to get a caniac card in order to get the box deal promotion. Their website said all you have to do is ask for a card at a location and then sign up online and then you can use the card. The location had no caniac cards left to give out and I was told that even if the did that I wouldn't be able to do the promotion because the registration for the card takes a couple of days. How are we in 2024 and still relying on physical cards like that? It seems very wasteful and unnecessary.

Yelp
DO NOT ORDER FOOD TO GO FROM HERE!!! Every single time I've done a mobile order or drive-thru, something is wrong with my order. How does "no coleslaw, extra toast" translate to "no fries, extra toast"???? It's soooo frustrating getting home and realizing your order is wrong. I don't understand what's so difficult about getting an order right. It's literally just chicken, bread, fries and coleslaw!!! As if the past 5 times weren't enough, I'm finally done going there lol

Yelp
First time here. My cousin and my aunt were realllyyyyyy raving about how Cane's was the best place ever. We went through the drive thru because inside there was a long line. The drive thru went by quick and there was a woman outside taking the orders. (For some reason the screens were down so she had to be outside). Despite being in the cold, she gave us time to look over the menu and was nice. We ordered 4 box combos with Texas toast. And one caniac combo with Texas toast. Lemonade was average. The box combo was a good size, the fries were good. Not crispy, but I prefer soft fries anyways. The sauce wasn't anything special, I wish it was a bit spicier. The fried chicken wasn't dry and the coating was pretty good. The Texas toast had a good toasting to it and was nice and soft. I think it would be good with slaw, but my cousin said their slaw is too monotone. (Mushy, no complex textures or anything). Overall, I probably wouldn't come back again. I give them 4 stars because they do what they are known for well-- but for my tastebuds it didn't have an oomph to it that I enjoy for my fried chicken meals.

Yelp
Quality is always poor, chicken isn't crispy and fries are limp and undercooked. We even requested well done fires and were told they can't do that, but they will be good. Been trying it out every few months and every time disappointing, I first had Raising Canes in Vegas about a decade ago, man it was pretty darn good. It seems like the more that open up the quality goes down. This is one of the worst Raising Canes and it sucks for us because it's the closest.

Yelp
I eat at canes at lest 8 times per month Chula Vista. This location and El Cajon and after a little problem I had I wanted to go back and try it again I did have a great experience. And and the food was very delicious and crispy and hot the employees are very friendly and nice and would definitely recommend if you're in the mood for chicken and they're delicious sauce. Or there honey mustard. Or get ketchup and add some hot sauce for the frys yum

Yelp
Blessed food so good with the sauce and bread, love the entire combo my go to is the box combo. Definitely worth trying if you haven't, Super fast amazing customer service, not to mention Toni is the best driver!
google avatar

Arvaunti V.

Yelp
Food is decent but the service is so sslllllooooowwww!!! The drive thru could have 2 cars ahead of us and we would still wait 7-12 mins. Then you get to the window with a bunch of giggling teenagers. Smh

Khloe W.

Yelp
i love their food literally so much! the texas toast is DELISH and the chicken is just so juicy. the fries could use some work with flavor but overall it's fantastic. the service is absolutely fantastic i get my food in less than 2 minutes even when i order for my whole family. the drive through takes a bit, but that's alright because the food is bomb! the overall looks of location is amazing, the ambiance is just fantastic.

Yelp
I was craving for Raising Cane's chicken finger, then I realized, the two locations that closest to me is either Santee or Mira Mesa, but I have no other plans to MM, so I picked Santee instead. The location is not ideal during heavy traffic because the place located on a busiest intersection in Santee, plus they have a small parking lot, and if everyone was to rush in all at the same time, we will not have enough parking, plus they have a long line of cars at the drive thru, all of that created a big commuting issue, maybe don't come at their lunch hour, come earlier or after lunch hour at best to avoid all the madness. I forgot I have a gift card so I brought it to redeem my combo, I would say the fries was thicker than other locations I been before, the bread also bigger, the cane sauce and coleslaw were the same, and the chicken fingers were fulfilling as always. The order came out very fast, not even minutes but by seconds. The interior displays have some cool throw back to the city of Santee itself and San Diego in general, fun fact we no longer have Qualcomm Stadium :) overall I really wish they would expand more locations in the near future especially within the 5 miles radius, their food has good quality and people love them.

Yelp
This is robbery! And the employees back it up saying that's how the batch comes. Canes needs to weigh the chicken or do something because is robbing people! False advertising! I didn't pay for nuggets! $35 and this is what you get! Get out of here

Yelp
It was well after dinner time last night so I decided to go to Cane's and cash in the Card I was given for a free Cane's box dinner. I asked to add two extra fingers so I could share with my wife. When I checked out at the drive thru I asked if they were now making $20 an hour? The young lady replied 'yes', 'that's why prices have gone up'!...... of course they have. As for the food, the two small fingers were $4 and change ...... totally not worth it. Canes fingers are ordinary at best and worse when they're barely warm like mine. The box came with four smallish fingers that are not flavorful or crunchy. The fries seemed undercooked and soggy. Lastly the thimble sized cup with coleslaw was tastlessly, a waste of space and the Canes dipping sauce is worse than good old ranch which, apparently is not an option. While the employees were friendly as they should be, given the gift from Gavin, the product they pedal is underwhelming at best. I'm surprised by the following they have!
google avatar

Alicia V.

Yelp
Food is always delicious! I usually get the box combo, swab the coleslaw for another toast, and add an extra sauce on the side. Service is great, the staff are always friendly. The only downfall is the drive through line is so long, and kind of confusing. Once it merges people tend to get crazy about who goes first, when it should just be the normal taking turns like we learn in driving school, maybe there needs to be a sign lol. Other than that, great places for some good chicken and sauce!
google avatar

Jaymie B.

Yelp
We went in tonight and there seemed to be a whole high school inside. The problem was they were throwing food and ice across the restaurant and none of the employees said anything to them about their destructive behavior. Super lame.
google avatar

Maryanne A.

Yelp
There's just something about that Cane's Sauce that makes me keep wanting more! That sauce makes the chicken tenders & fries so goood! It's so satisfying dunking their chicken tenders in the cane sauce, of course you have to pay extra for a whole cup's worth. The Box Combo that comes with 4 tenders is good enough for me, but my boyfriend who has a bigger appetite goes for the Caniac Combo. The coleslaw that comes with the combos adds a refreshing balance to all the fried food. If you haven't tried Raising Cane's yet, you should definitely give it a try! Also, I love that their mascot Raising Cane is a dog! (:
google avatar

Deanna S.

Yelp
I used to frequent this location as much as possible because I love their chicken. It doesn't have too much spices, very crispy and juicy and lots of fries. Unfortunately the last 3 visits, the chicken has been small, very dry and much smaller amount of fries. I don't go here anymore. Hopefully they will read this and fix the problems. Because Raising Canes Chicken is usually so good! I've been going to the Chula Vista location now.

Yelp
Pretty all right. I passed by the place and was dying of hunger from finishing a super long shift drilling holes at the construction site. Got the classic box combo which contains: 4 chicken fingers, toast (subbed it for extra fries), crinkle cut fries, coleslaw, and a drink (lemonade), and one small tub of Cane's sauce. Chicken: Super crispy and tender. Isn't oily at all and combusting with flavor. This was my favorite thing to eat. Fries: Soggy and cold a.k.a not so good fries. Coleslaw: Nonexistent (they forgot about it). Lemonade: Super refreshing and could tell it was fresh-squeezed. The perfect amount of sweetness. P.S The drive-through format was bad and caused a bunch of cars to cramp into each other.
google avatar

Amanda M.

Yelp
Seemed like they were just messing around, bad service and they forgot TWO WHOLE FINGERS from my caniac.
google avatar

Lornse B.

Yelp
I swear to god the girl at night messes up the order every single time at night. Like when someone orders a combo and they say add 1 extra toast why do u guys remove the coleslaw and add 2 extra toast every time . Even when we tell them to keep the coleslaw like why do u guy remove a product that comes with the combo when we say add a toast we didn't say remove u guys always do this shit and is always the girl at night that be messing up always this not the first time
google avatar

Vincent B.

Yelp
A-1 customer service team fast and friendly service and a great nice smile to everyone who is in this well run business kudos to you Raising Cane's Chicken I am so grateful for your service and your efforts!!!!!
google avatar

Eric L.

Yelp
The drive thru line is always longer than in n outs line. I ordered 2 canic combos and I was given 5 tenders instead of 6. I will give them one star because they didn't charge me extra for no coleslaw sub extra fries. The food poisoning that came afterwards is the downfall. If anyone else orders on January 6th in the evening time, I think there was a bad batch.
google avatar

John B.

Yelp
Food is good, but the sizes are hit or miss. The place is usually pretty dirty. The staff has to yell because the music is WAY TO LOUD! I mean seriously, why do you make it where customers have to YELL THEIR ORDERS THREE TIMES.
google avatar

Chris G.

Yelp
I come here all the time. Everyone seems nice. Food is always great but today I ordered a 6 piece and they actually gave me a 4 piece and ripped 2 of the tenders in Half to give me the full 6 piece. Lazy kids.
google avatar

Linda R.

Yelp
Chicken is fresh, good temperature & fresh Service is great Drive thru can be real slow
google avatar

Linda R.

Yelp
Recently gave this place another try. I called the day before to order a tray of 25 tenders, fries and toast. I was a little bit late to pick up my order and everything was ready and waiting for me. I went in around 545 and the drive thru line was very long. They did have someone outside talking orders so I'm not sure how long the wait was. I walked right up to the counter and paid and picked up. I highly recommend ordering in advance for large orders. The food was good, better than I remembered. The toast has sesame seeds on it, FYI. Everything was good!

Kayla L.

Yelp
The best Raising Cane's Chicken around! The El Cajon location is not as good as this one! I wish you guys would also add ranch to the sauces choices. Maybe make your own? Either way I love the Cane's sauce don't get me wrong. But my kids love ranch! Homemade ranch would be even better!
google avatar

Scott T.

Yelp
Great Location! Friendly staff with fast service. Dual drive thru windows and workers outside as well. Chicken is the best! Got the party trays for the family for New Years Eve! Must stop location!
google avatar

Melanie M.

Yelp
The food wouldn't be good without the sauce. It annoys me how it costs extra for more sauce when In N Out and Chick Fil A don't. The fries are not even good because they're under done. The parking situation and drive thru line are also horrendous. You'll end up waiting 30+ min in the drive thru line and if you want to park and go inside for a shorter wait, there aren't even any parking spots available. The prices have also increased and are not good for the amount of food given. The chicken tender sizes are not consistent. They also put way too much ice in the drinks. I still give it 3 stars because the sauce and toast are good enough.
google avatar

Celeste J.

Yelp
please, bury me with canes i. love. canes. so. much. yum yum yum. canes. can you sponsor me if i advertise bc u deserve more than 3.4 stars. i'm fr tho, any chance i could help yall out for a free 3 finger combo?
google avatar

Carlos R.

Yelp
Last night I came here and ordered their 4 piece special lol with my drink a Red Hi-C mixed with Sprite and extra Canes sauce and subbed my coleslaw for an extra piece of bread it was bomb!!!! Thanks for taking my order Shaquira!!!!

Karimah S.

Yelp
Drive through customer service in Chula Vista, CA. Was very poor. I Didn't get the total after my order. There were 3 people working in lane# 2, but they were playing around, not taking orders. I heard one of the workers curse at another worker. The staff is too young or immature. The only good thing is the food is good. I might just walk in if i go again.
google avatar

Ty A.

Yelp
Looking for fresh hot chicken tenders for an easy and delicious lunch! Stop by raising canes! Cane sauce is a very pepper forward dipping sauce if that's not your style ask for honey mustard. I always butter both sides of my toast for a crispy rich Texas toast. If you don't like the slaw dub it out for something else like I do! Happy eating!
google avatar

Ronda B.

Yelp
Canes stays jumping. The chicken is always hot and fresh , French fries as well. I wish they were able to push the drive thru a lil faster. There's never a day where they are not busy. Not the best chicken but it's good and I'll continue to eat it. Oh don't forget the Texas toast it's so good highly recommend an extra piece lol.
google avatar

Mike T.

Yelp
My son is obsessed with their chicken fingers and Texas toast. He first tried it in another state when we were traveling and fell in love. Now having it here in our city he is asking to go all the time. The drive through lanes are very efficient even if it looks like a long line... they generally go by really quickly.

Ali T.

Yelp
The best ever! I love their food so much! It's seasoned and you can tell they put love and care into making the food. The service on the other hand was spectacular, the staff are kind and friendly. The Ambiance is very nice it's pretty noisy but overall it's clean and well designed
google avatar

Karyn T.

Yelp
Whenever you get to Raising Cane's make sure to ask for a Caniac card and set your account up on the app. Often times they give you free drinks and food on there. This last visit my husband and I were not in the mood to cook and so we decided we would go to Raising Canes, parking is limited and the drive thru can take a bit of time but be patient! We normally park so we can eat inside in their amazing air conditioned restaurant. While waiting in line I checked to see if I had any free drinks and saw that I had a bogo box deal in my account. Woohoo! We used that and instead of coleslaw asked to replace it with Texas toast, yes you can do that! The team at Raising Cane's is always so friendly and the food is always so delicious. I dream about that chicken and Texas toast combo. Check them out.
google avatar

Laila D.

Yelp
The chicken fingers were like any other chicken tender but what made them special was the Canes sauce. The Texas toast was very delicious, buttery, and soft. Main thing I would change would be the side of coleslaw, I wish they had another option like Mac and cheese, but at least they have the option to replace with Texas toast.
google avatar

Yelp
I'm a fan! One of the best fried chicken burgers I've had & chicken strips & they have crinkle fries, CRINKLE FRIES I tell you! Been hearing bout Canes for awhile now & I'm glad I finally tried it. Liked it so much I went back to back days the first time I went with the family. We all loved it, wife & kids, which is good because it's hard to find a place we all like but we did with Canes. We all loved the fresh chicken & crinkle fries & don't forget the toast bread, that was pretty good especially with the special sauce they give you. And for the healthy or old people they got fresh cold brewed Ice Tea sweet or unsweetened. Tho the customer service was fast & friendly inside & in DT they can be a little more alert on keeping the tables clean in the lobby. Both times there was a few tables a bit dirty & they ran out of ketchup in the lobby. And wish they had a few more different sauces for the chicken strips. But other than that we really like this place & we'll be back for sure for that chicken & CRINKLE FRIES!

Yelp
Came in with my kiddos yesterday. This place is packed busy! I appreciate the simple menu. We ordered 2 kids meals and the Box combo. The tenders were delicious.. the bread was soft and the fries were delicious. My boys devoured everything. The lemonade was good too. Only thing that was bad was having to wait so long since everyone wants the same thing. We sat in the drive thru line for a but before deciding to park and eat outside since a space was available. The parking lot can be confusing as there is only one way in and one direction out. It definitely keeps the flow of traffic going for a smooth experience. Definitely good to try when we are in the area!
google avatar

Colleen B.

Yelp
Did drive-thru this time. Great service. All items included and quick service. I read a couple reviews and was like....nah.....and I had great service last time albeit slow.

Faith S.

Yelp
This place gave me food poisoning!!!! There fries are never salted and there chicken is small and sucks do better little 16 year olds working back there I've been dying for the past 2 days !!!!!!!!
google avatar

Jared S.

Yelp
The food is delicious! Their quality control is lacking lately though. Two visits in a row: 1st - Didn't give me any of the canes sauce I ordered during the drive thru. Of course didn't check my bags before I got home. Shame on me but my wife was pissed. 2nd - Ordered 3 chicken tenders with a side of fries. Again didn't check my bag. Got home, only 1 chicken tender with fries. Shame on me but my wife pissed. I'll check next time.
google avatar

James W.

Yelp
The chicken fingers are fine. The service not incredibly impressive. Asked for an extra sauce. They remembered the .39 charge, but not the sauce.

Esmeralda B.

Yelp
10/10 luve their chicken - always consistent and can't count on Abby location to deliver a solid meal

Yelp
I had Cane's last year and had tried it 3 to 4 times and it was a great experience. I enjoyed their chicken, fries and toast. I did not get the opportunity to review back then but I would have given it 5 stars. Why the 2 stars now? Today was my first Cane's of the year 2022 and ordered the 3-finger combo. I was surprised to see how much they downsized the chicken. They were similar in size to a 3 inch by 3 inch post-it-note where as last year they were much, much bigger. Still the same good taste but left with wanting more.

Yelp
After waiting thirty minutes plus in a Kaiser waiting room. Then being told sarcastically that I would wait an hour more. I left the hospital hangry looking for something to take care of this bad mood the hospital counter person put me in. Being in La Mesa, I decided to drive to Santee for some fried chicken. My son had Canes weeks ago. So ever since then. I have had a craving for it. It took a bad Kaiser employee to drive me over the edge. So I guess I have her to thank. So getting to Canes. There are two employees outside taking orders for the drive-thru. They took orders as well as took payment if it was debit or credit. If it was cash. You had to pay at the window. Another thing of interest was that the two employees were identical twin girls. It was a good system because the lines at the drive-thru went quickly. I was through the drive-thru in no time, got my food and back on the road home. Once home, I feed my hangriness until it was gone. The chicken being moist with a decent crunchy outside, good fries, good coleslaw and a tasty Texas toast. Overall, not a bad meal. Support local businesses especially the good ones. Raising Canes is exceptional. Eat here.

Loren H.

Yelp
Legit drive 30 minutes from chula vista to come here. The canes in chula is always crowded, the tenders are small or the food is burnt. But i know this canes got it and wont disappoint.

Kaylee M.

Yelp
My husband and I just ordered two box combos. Paid, got to the window, and they handed us a box of one. I opened the box and picked up the toast to see if there were 4 tenders and there were 2. They asked us why we were still in line and we gave them the order back (which they proceeded to give to another customer after I touched the toast.) they gave us our actual order and me and my husband both had long black hairs in our food. So that was a waste of $30. Literally disgusting, will never ever be back. And please don't come here.
