Their prices are unbeatable. It's like a buffet, except it is NOT all you can eat, but you form a line and choose from the options that are already set out in containers behind the glass and they serve it to you on paper plates. For about $8, you get a side of rice, a vegetable entree and a choice of meat. On this past Friday afternoon, the choices were chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, and lamb. The lamb didn't have much flavor, and the butter chicken was a bit sweet (they offer samples if you're indecisive) so I settled for the tikka masala, as it was spicy.
I have to admit that the chicken was a bit dry, compared to the tikka masala I have had elsewhere and I agree with others that it seemed as if the food was sitting out for a long time, and this may be why it was dry at that point. As others have stated, it was lukewarm as well.
The choices of rice were white rice, a yellow "lemon" rice, and another type of rice, which I forgot. I chose the yellow rice but I did not taste a drop of lemon. I had never had lemon rice as every Indian restaurant serves Basmati, but I was not very impressed. I might as well have gotten the plain rice for the same flavor, basically.
The vegetable choices consisted of spinach without cream, cabbage, or a medley with carrots, cauliflower and green beans. I got the cabbage, and my friend got the spinach. The cabbage wasn't bad but again, lukewarm. I was a bit disappointed that instead of giving me the fresh batch of chicken and veggies or at least mixing it with what was left so that I could get some of the hot chicken and veggies that just came off the stove with the sauce, I was instead served the leftovers. There were only about 2 scoops of food left in each tray, so why not make a good first impression and serve your customers with the fresh batch? We got there at around 2:30 so god knows how long the food was just sitting there.
I know this place won the best Indian restaurant in the Miami New Times some years ago but truthfully, I am not impressed. I guess you get what you pay for, but it was definitely not deserving of such a high honor even if the food was free. The place isn't very clean either. If I were to come, it would be just because I am craving Indian food and it's the only Indian restaurant (really, cafeteria) within walking distance from my office.
Again, it's okay but it was not the best Indian food I had ever tasted, and the choices are rather limited. I frankly don't know what they were thinking when they said this was the best Indian restaurant in South Florida because for me, it was average and greasy, and the rice was all clumped together like a big ball, which to me is a big no-no. Rice should be fluffy, not clumpy!
