"This is a Japanese soft serve shop in Wicker Park with only two flavors to choose from: matcha and sesame. The soft serve here is perfectly creamy, and both varieties are well balanced. The best thing to do is order the Rakki Royale, a swirl of both that comes with red beans, white mochi, coffee jelly, chestnut, rice puffs, sesame brittle, and a piece of matcha cheesecake. It’s not too sweet, has a lot of different textures, and is something you need to have." - Adrian Kane

"Rakki Cafe, co-owned by Johnny Lee, is set to open next month in Wicker Park. The cafe will serve matcha soft-serve ice cream, pastries from Chiu Quon Bakery, and other Asian desserts. The soft serve, featuring rotating flavors with matcha always available, will be the star attraction. The small space aims to provide a traditional take, with a few seats inside." - Ashok Selvam

Our family is very into Japanese desserts, especially anything with matcha, black sesame and hojicha. Rakki Cafe has them all 😊 We love their soft serves. You can choose matcha, black sesame or swirl. The matcha soft serve is very strong in matcha flavor, same with the black sesame. The coffee jellies are very good as well. Overall: Menu: 5stars Price: $ Food: 5stars Service: 5stars Highly recommended!

Awesome soft serve match ice cream and very close to authentic Japanese style. For regular ice cream goers this might taste a little bitter but that’s how it should be. Also there Ube (purple yam) flavour is good too. I would skip the shaved ice I think it’s overpriced and I did not like the taste.

Perfect matcha and black sesame ice cream! I don't need to go all the way to Mitsuwa for high quality soft serve anymore. The coffee jelly topping was very good too. Very friendly people behind the counter, I assume it's your owners.

Tried the Macha & Vanilla soft serve ice cream. It was okay. I don’t think I’m a fan of Macha flavor, it tasted okay, slightly on the bitter side and never quite tasted sweet. But nothing special on the vanilla side of the ice cream either. The staff was very friendly, the place is compact but has good amount of seating.

Absolutely love the Asian flavors and drink options here! The ice cream isn't as sweet as American flavors which I appreciate. I got the matcha and black sesame swirl and a donburi bowl. The meat was so tender and juicy. Also, the matcha lattes are SO good. Definitely don't leave without one if you are a matcha fan!

Their sesame soft serve is very good. I think it's actually better than the green tea, but getting the swirl gives you a good contrast. I tried the Rakki Royale, and I really like the soft serve swirl, the green tea castella cake, and the sesame crisps. I didn't like the coffee jellies at all. The rice balls were too dense for my liking. Overall, it was still enjoyable. I would go back just for their soft serve.

Drove all the way from suburbs on a snowy day to get dessert with a group of friends. We were all excited to go check out this new place and the dessert met our expectations!! Creamy soft serve, authentic mochi and yummy green tea cheesecake. Excellent!

Reasonably priced soft serve, free samples! I got the matcha vanilla and the taste was good but toppings are a bit pricey. Also, there was a big ‘hole’ in my swirl (like when I got to the middle, they hadn’t swirled it in all the way).
