Where to Get Ramen in New York City | Eater NY

"Ramen Misoya — down a flight of steps in a West Village basement — encourages you to supplement noodles with added proteins, including lovely miniature pork cutlets and tempura shrimp. They contribute immeasurably to the pleasure of the meal. There’s another branch in the East Village." - Robert Sietsema

The NYC Cold Brew, Burgers, & Omelets That Power Antoni Porowski

"My buddy took me to Misoya and it was one of those meals where he just ordered everything. We had an amazing meal. Misoya has this very rich bone broth, with a perfect pool of fat, and nice thin slices of pork. You're not like chewing too much. You're slurping it up. The noodles are awesome. I became a big fan that night." - brennan carley

A Running List of New Restaurants That Opened in New York City, June 2021 - Eater NY

"Grilled, glazed, and fried chicken is the draw at Hudson Street newcomer Lucky Louie’s. The new restaurant serves the meat stuffed between brioche buns, beside heaps of mac and cheese, and atop buttermilk waffles with “not too spicy” honey butter." - Luke Fortney

I went here for a first date and it was super quiet and cozy. The food came less than 10 minutes after we ordered nice and hot and it was so good. And the person who served us was really sweet. I’d definitely go back there. And I now have a girlfriend so to me it’s a good luck experience :)

Google
Great service! Yummy ramen. Cool drinks selection. However, dropped a full star because if you order an egg ($2!) and get half an egg it’s a bit disappointing. I would specify half an egg on the menu or add the full egg in

Google
Large bowls of delicious ramen! They had 3 kinds of vegetarian ramen, each with some customisations available. I tried the standard vegetarian ramen with extra spice, and it was delicious! The portion sizes are large! They also had a side of butter and cheese which was curiously good with ramen.

Google
The restaurant is just opposite the company, so I bought a special lunch set for my lunch. The appearance is OK, the price is normal, and the taste is very average. There is too much salt in the ramen soup base, and the whole tongue is bitter and numb after eating it. Because there is really too much salt. As a result, I can't tell whether the soup base is pure or not. In addition, the portion is small, so people with a big appetite are not suitable to come here

A small staircase in the heart of the west village will lead you to a kind of a wide cellar with brickwalls and wooden tables. The ramen is great! And there are so many options to choose from. The broth was deep and full of taste, and each of the ramens we took was huge - we couldn't finish them. Don't miss in the homemade shrimp dumplings. Also, there are many vegetarian options. We came in early and manage to use the happy hour as well!

Misoya is a hidden ramen speakeasy located in a basement down a sketchy staircase in West Village. Once you step in, the restaurant is spacious with warm tone lighting and clean bathrooms. They specialize in all types of miso-based ramen, including Hokkaido, Kyoto and Nagoya style. We ordered 3 apps and 2 ramen for two people. Everything was authentic and enjoyable. Highly recommend trying their signature miso ramen as this is what they are known for. *Black Pepper Tuna The seared raw tuna sprinkled with black pepper is so delicious and full of flavor. The dijon mustard adds a tangy and sweet flavor that complements the tuna's natural sweetness. *Ikura Tofu* I described it as a tofu version of chawanmushi. The tofu is incredibly silky and jiggly, literally slipping into my throat. The dashi sauce coated on top has a slight hint of ginger-y flavor. They also give a decent amount of ikura to ensure you have it with tofu at every bite. *Ebi Dumpling I’ve never seen a whole shrimp wrapped in gyoza skin before. It is so unique as an appetizer and a less meaty appetizer to pair with your ramen. *Shiro Miso Cha-Shu Ramen** Shiro miso is a Kyoto style ramen using sweet and light soybean paste. This type of miso is less salty and milder compared to their two other miso options. We couldn’t stop but kept drinking the soup. The cha shu is seared to give a slightly smoky, caramelized exterior. The meat-to-fat ratio is simply perfect. *Cold Dipping Noodles** Summer special. I really enjoyed this soupless ramen as it is served cold. Very refreshing on hot days. The dipping sauce is miso-based with chilli powder on the side. The sauce is thicker and richer than the white miso, and the thick noodles hold up well to the sauce. Keep in mind both ramen come with many bean sprouts. Personally not a fan but my friend loved them.

Google
Absolutely love this place for a hearty bowl of ramen. All three base broths are great and plenty of customisations available, even for vegans. Really enjoy the service and the hosts here every time. It's underground, so you'll need to climb down to get in. Very clean.

Google
Mame miso was very unique, slightly earthy and bitter reminds me of herbal medicine, Shiro miso was white and creamy, mildly sweet and less salty, Kome miso is the most commonly seen miso, combined with curry becomes a super rich and comforting broth. Besides ramen, all their sides are decent too, especially the homemade ikura tofu, super silky and creamy, I literally gasp at first bite, definitely one of the best tofu you can find in NYC. Yelp
The ramen here is so good! I really like the broth and the wavy noodles. The tuna was very fresh and thin and the fried chicken was juicy and came in big pieces! This location is in a basement setting, but there is WiFi and lots of seating inside. The service was also great! I have not checked out their East Village location to compare, but I would come back to this one.

Yelp
Wasn't able to take photos. The place has a cool and quiet vibe, it's tucked away as you have to walk downstairs into a basement that turns into a bright modern ramen bar that has scents of light wood and white everywhere. The gyoza were decent and had a nice crisp to them. The shishito peppers were typical as what you were to imagine in your head when you think "shishito peppers." My ramen was good, the broth was clean and flavorful and I got extra veggies as I wasn't in a huge mood for a lot of meat. They may have found a way to defy physics...the ramen was boiling hot until I finished the last drop. I'd gladfully come back.

Yelp
This is consistently the best ramen in the West Village. The bowls are generous and I've only made it to the bottom of the bowl 1x. Find it down a non-descript flight of stairs and keep walking in through the dark entry.
google avatar

Yelp
Found this place while in the area and it was a wonderful choice. The ramen was very yummy. I also tried the shishito peppers which were great as well. Such a cute place and we luckily missed the rush. My brother tried the ramen and chicken karaage lunch special and he enjoyed it. The server was very nice and attentive.

Yelp
I got the spicy veggie ramen. Was super good. Added more veggies. Once I did that was pricey but have to say was excellent!

Yelp
This was my second time visiting Misoya, and it was just as satisfying as the first! They have a very extensive menu with several different types of broths. They also have several specials. The first time I visited, I also tried the yuzu sake, which was very tasty. The ramen comes out quickly and is filled to the brim. I've tried a lot of ramen in NYC, and I will say Misoya serves the most noodles. I swear the bowl is full of noodles. I was able to take home a lot of leftovers. The cha-shu pork is tender and thinly sliced. The chicken cutlet was crispy and cooked to perfection. The broth was flavorful (although a little salty for my taste), and the fried tofu was a nice touch, as well. It can be a little difficult to find this place. It is actually underground. The directions brought me to a bagel shop; Misoya is underneath the bagel shop in the basement unit. Once you enter, you find a well-lit, well-decorated, homey restaurant that you typically wouldn't expect from a basement unit. It's also in the West Village, so there are plenty of great dessert options nearby. This is a solid ramen spot and a great option the next time you're in the West Village.

Yelp
My friend and I decided to check out Misoya around 7:15pm on a Saturday due to the glowing reviews on Google and Yelp. The restaurant is a bit hidden so when you get to the right corner, just go down the stairs, through some doors, and you will find it! I was shocked that we could get seated immediately, and it seemed like we just beat out the rush. The interior is small and simple. We ordered Kome Miso Ramen ($14) and Kome Miso Spicy Vegetarian Ramen ($15). I was very surprised by the price, especially given the location. I am a huge fan of miso ramen, so anything here would probably satisfy me. The highlights of the dish were the chewy noodles and the miso egg! My friend mentioned that the spicy ramen was not as spicy as it could be, so it may not satisfy you if you like a strong kick. Service here was terrific! There were several checkbacks and water refills. The two staff members helping us were so kind and courteous. If you are in the area, warm up with tasty miso ramen at Misoya!

Yelp
RATING: 7.5/10 PRO TIP: Whatever you do make sure to try their chashu. It's actually really delicious. KOME MISO CHASHU RAMEN The "one to get" on the menu, with nice chewy noodles, perfectly cooked jammy egg and light flavorful broth. The broth is def on the lighter side, and not as bold as I would have liked but feels less heavy than other places. The chashu though was amazing - nice and thick slab of pork with a bit of a crisp on the edges and savory saltiness just running throughout. Really the star of the show here. EBI SHRIMP DUMPLINGS Feels handmade, the gyoza skin is quite soft, and i was hoping for more of a crisp and the shrimp itself is surrounded in some sort of batter that made the interior kind of mushy, not super salty. Not sure if I would get again but love the homemade touch. FINAL CATEGORY: GOOD (terrible / bad / ok / GOOD / great / excellent)

Yelp
Gorgeous veggie spicy ramen. Not too spicy, but I'm sure you could ask for more spice if you wanted it. The red miso shrimp ramen had a really deep flavor. Staff were friendly and efficient. The black pepper tuna looked great, but the real strength of the restaurant is in their ramen.

Yelp
We dined here tonight at a charming ramen spot in the West Village. It was a bit tricky to find initially since it's located downstairs from street level. I tried the summer special, a Cold Noodle Dipping Ramen, which had a clean and refreshing taste. My husband ordered the Shiro-Miso Cha-Shu Ramen, and he loved the rich and flavorful broth. The service was both quick and friendly. We would definitely return.

Yelp
Came here with a couple of friends on a Friday night It's a bit hard to find and looks sketchy but once you go down the stairs - you'll find a very chic and modern restaurant. Very extensive ramen menu and I love how they feature different places of Japan! Our ramen were all very delicious! Will be back!
google avatar

May L.

Yelp
The kome miso cha-shu ramen was delicious. The broth is flavorful, the cha-shu is really tender and the noodles are the perfect amount of chewiness. Portions for the ramen, kale salad, chicken karaage and pork gyoza are generous. We'll be back.

Yelp
Clean and elegant interior. The food has been consistently good. Our go to place when we want something cozy and delicious.

Yelp
Excellent Ramen with good service and a lot of variety. This is one of those places you can go 5-10 times and not get bored. Unlike a lot of places where there's maybe four ramen selections, they provide multiple styles, along with seasonal specials, and seem to do them all well. There's the standard tonkotsu broth, but then there's red and normal miso styles, and for winter, there's a curry-miso ramen. My only complaint is that maybe their chasu could be a bit more flavorful and tender, but it's still pretty good, all things considered. Service is friendly and enthusiastic. There's a somewhat clean and minimalistic aesthetic to the place; a bit less homey, a bit more modern, if that makes sense. There's a fair amount of seating, including counter, 2-tops, 4-tops, and so on. Bathrooms: Clean, functional, and spacious.

Yelp
Stopped in on a cold fall afternoon, fantastic spicy miso ramen warmed me right up! Reasonably priced for the area as well.

Yelp
Well made wonderful, comforting ramen. Miso Broth is nice and rich, but not too salty or overpowering. Just right proportion of add-ins and broth. Will definitely be making a return visit.
google avatar

Jason G.

Yelp
Quaint little ramen shop tucked away in a basement on the corner of Hudson street, with no wait on a Thursday night. Food was decent, solid bowl of ramen. Ordered the Kome Miso ramen with Cha Shu. The cha shu and ground pork on top were both fantastic, a thick 3 pieces of cha shu and very flavorful fatty ground pork. The noodles and the broth however tasted pretty standard. Would be curious to try their seasonal ramens on return.

Yelp
My pastor suggests this ramen place to me so last Sunday I had a chance having launch here. I got a set of launch special. The ramen I picked came with choice of Gyoza, Chicken something and Salad. I wasn't hungry so I had salad. The ramen I had also salty, and I wish I pick something else. Service is good. Recommended.

Yelp
This is a hidden gem found in the corner of Charles & Hudson St. I had a hard time looking for this place until my friend told me it's located underground. We came around 6:45pm on a Saturday and the wait was about 25 minutes. It got really busy after 7pm. It's a small ramen spot and I love the atmosphere. Really enjoy the music they play; super chill and relaxing. The prices are really reasonable considering it's New York. They don't serve hard liquor but they do offer sake, wine and beer. The cup sakes were $10 each. The gyozas were super delicious. One of the best I've had at a Japanese ramen spot. The bottom of the gyozas came out super crispy and came with a lot of filling which we all enjoyed. The chicken karaage was also a good appetizer. They were lightly battered and super tender. Came with a sweet soy sauce with green onions and sesame oil. I highly recommend the Kome Miso Ramen with a side order of the spicy paste ($2). It comes with 3 pieces of chashu and a bunch of ingredients such as bamboo shoots, corn, egg, bean sprouts, etc. So worth it for $17! Also, the noodles are cooked the way I love it (al dente). Service was great! Super nice and friendly servers. Only suggestion we gave them was to open a Misoya in LA, lol. Yes, we enjoyed it that much!

Yelp
Great food! Never would have found it without Yelp! Entrance is around the corner, down steep stairs to nice basement. Global comfort food.
google avatar

Lisa L.

Yelp
Surprisingly impressive ramen spot! We came in randomly as a group of five on Saturday at about 5:30pm and we were seated immediately with no wait. The spot is in the basement, but feels spacious and has a v cool vibe, like you're not even in NY. I got the spicy miso ramen (whatever was number 4 on the menu). While my preference is usually a tonkatsu ramen, this miso ramen was very flavorful. At times a bit too flavorful where I needed to wash it down with some water. The restrooms were clean and spacious, the ambiance was comfortable. They even accepted four credit cards (our fifth person left so we only asked if we can split four ways). Overall, highly recommend!
google avatar

Sophia B.

Yelp
The taste of ramen is not consistent, rather disappointing as time goes by. Noodles undercooked and serviced with no care.
google avatar

Phoenix C.

Yelp
Polite and efficient service. I got a spicy kome miso ramen and the broth was delicious. I went around 5 pm and it was very slow. Definitely coming back!
google avatar

Yelp
Finally a good ramen place in West Village. Entrance was a bit tricky to find, but It's located on Charles st (and Hudson st). We ordered #1 and #6 ramen and the portion was huge. Their pork in ramen is definitely in top 3 in NYC, were really tender and delicious. bathroom was super clean (which means their kitchen is super clean as well - A lesson that I learned from my friend who used to work for DOH tsk tsk). service was attentive. We will definitely return to try others
google avatar

Michelle A.

Yelp
Despite sketchy stairs that lead into the basement, inside you enter a Haruki Murakami universe complete with Rolling Stones soundtrack. Charming decor and fast service reminiscent of Panic in Roppongi Ichome. Tasty gyoza to start, plus ramen, which traditionally comes in supersized bowls-- how about a half portion option? Enjoyable on a cold evening although one of our party found his ramen 'sweet' due to the amount of corn.
google avatar

Leo A.

Yelp
One of my favorite ramen places in the area! I definitely like that they have some "different" types of ramen than your usual place: I got a cold creamy yuzu ramen which hit the spot on a hot day. Unfortunately they have pretty bad visibility from the street and was hard to find at first! You have to take an innocuous staircase down to the basement to get to it and there's only a small sign. Hope that doesn't put them out of business, would be sad to see a great place go.

Kin S.

Yelp
Nice little ramen place. Entrance was really hard to find. It's located in a basement. Definitely need more signs! Service was great, and food was flavorful and well presented.
google avatar

Yelp
Best Miso I have ever had! The service was wonderful, my server was Ketomi (sorry if I spelled that wrong.) The hot sake was $9 and adding cheese and butter to the Miso was a great suggestion. Can't wait to come back

Adrienne D.

Yelp
The service is always timely and the food never disappoints. The Mame Miso Ramen is so delicious. Took a friend here and they're on board too. Can't say enough good about things abt this place!!
google avatar

Kathleen K.

Yelp
The atmosphere was chic and warm. They had an extensive menu--including vegan and gluten free noodles. The ramen was some of the best I've had!

Emily E.

Yelp
Incredible ramen. Not many places have multiple vegetarian options so I love that they have this here! The inside is so cute and cozy but we typically do take out.

Stanley B.

Yelp
Sweet delicious relaxing amazing food great value Just down the steps on Charles just west of Hudson Amazing date spot
google avatar

Ariba H.

Yelp
Great miso ramen with lots of variety and vegetarian options at an affordable price point. The server was super kind and helpful and the space was clean and ambient despite the small basement location. Nice hidden gem in the West Village that I will definitely visit again!

Jeff B.

Yelp
Great Ramen for a great price! Service was excellent! Highly recommend for anyone in West Village!

Yelp
This is another branch of the misoya in east village. Best miso ramen in the city hands down! Entrance is a bit tricky, you have to go around the corner to get to the stairs leading down under the building where the restaurant is

Yelp
Saw this on the corner of Hudson and Charles Streets and it looked nice. Ordered delivery and it was phenomenal. Authentic and awesome. We're huge fans so are ordering again tonight. Glad to have this restaurant in the neighborhood!

Thaddeus N.

Yelp
This place doesn't exist. 535 Hudson Street is an apartment building. I looked up and down the block and on the side streets and couldn't find it. Don't know what's up with their address or if they have recently closed.

Jason M.

Yelp
A hidden gem right here in the West Village away from the crowds tucked away below Hudson you'll find unpretentious Ramen served up with attentive service.

Chelsea H.

Yelp
Easy to miss walking by but such a cozy spot once you're inside! Our new ramen go-to in WV

Julia N.

Yelp
Delicious ramen in the heart of West Village! Don't let the basement location fool you before coming in, the restaurant is immaculately clean and there is ample seating. Service is always on point and this has becoming my go-to ramen spot!

Alex S.

Yelp
Top ramen spot in the west village - great variety of ramen soup bases and even offers some unique special ramens. Each soup base is very flavorful and ramen toppings perfectly compliment the over dish, and the noodles are wavy and maintain a nice chew. Highly recommend getting their cha-shu which is tender, fatty, while still having a nice char. Have eaten here several times and each time have tried a different ramen each time so you will never run out of options. If you want something a bit unique, try the cold yuzu miso ramen - creamy and citrusy, great for a warm summer day. Will be returning frequently!

Chrispy B.

Yelp
A new gem in the West Village! This place needs to stay open. The ramen is amazing, with tons of vegetarian options! I recommend the #1 or if you want a change of pace from the normal bowls i would definitely try the curry ramen. Its perfect

Zwe Zarni L.

Yelp
Holy moly. I'm convinced that this is one of the best ramen restaurants that I've ever had in NYC! Last night, me and my girlfriend went out for a walk around the west village and we saw this unique shop which is located in the basement so I thought we could give it try. Seriously, It blew my mind with their artistic, clean and neat environment along with delicious and flavorful ramen meals. Their services were great too. I love it and my girl loves it! And, seems like this restaurant just opened recently so it would be great if you guys give it a try especially if you are in a west village. Or even if you are not in the west village, you should come and try this authentic ramen shop! I can guarantee that you guys would enjoy it.

Phillip C.

Yelp
Good portions for the price. Great staff and service. Good selection of vegetarian ramens too
