Eat Like the Fab 5 at All of the Austin Restaurants Featured in the New ‘Queer Eye’

"In Episode 3, “No More Bull,” the makeover subject is Josh Eilers, the founder of far east Austin Ranger Cattle which raises, well, cattle and produces wagyu beef. It turns out he had been sleeping at the ranch, which also features a tasting room (which sells retail steaks and meats) and a small kitchen. He talks about how he loves to eat steaks but didn’t really eat vegetables, saying “Mom was a pretty good Texan woman and didn’t feed me a whole lot of veggies.” Later on, Porowski teaches him how to make glazed rainbow carrots paired with medium-rare and rare wagyu steaks." - Erin Russell, Nadia Chaudhury

Really had an awesome time at the drive in here. Only took away a star because masks were not enforced inside so I have a little anxiety today about having waited in line in the bathroom when the girls in line around me were maskless. There were a lot of people but other than the bathroom you really had a lot of control of the level of crowd you were in. Everyone was super friendly and the burgers were amazing and free beer! Highly recommend.

I can not say enough about their company. It is a working ranch for pasture raised Wagyu that due to Covid-19 opened up itself for retail sales in March. Everyone is personable and every purchase from them is an enjoyable learning experience. I've made two orders so far and elated to be attending their first tasting room this evening. The Denver cuts are a solid favorite and the marbeling is exquisite; pricing is definitely worthy of the quality. They're not a far drive from the Austin airport and are currently open daily from 4 -7pm.

Nice set up for a drive in, wonderful live music before the movie and great food and free beer. My personal experience wasn't the best though. Unfortunatly, people were so rowdy and loud playing Jenga inside the building behind the screen that you couldn't enjoy the experience. It was shocking management allowed it to continue the whole movie. Many people around us left early due to the noise. Sadly it was not worth the price in the end.

My husband and I went for the Ranger Cattle Chili Fest. I hope they host more events like this. There were live bands, goats for petting (if they let you), roping, hay bales all around for people watching and a firetruck with draft beers and of course the chili!! And....yes, people got trophies. So fun!! Seems they have movie nights. Plan on that soon. Here are a few of my highlights from the day (took more video than photos :(. Plan on ordering some beef soon too!! Ty Ranger Cattle for hosting a fabulous event. :)

Fajita Fest on memorial day weekend is a good down-home, family-friendly event. We brought the kids and the dog, and for 20 bucks a head we had all-you-can-eat fajitas from multiple vendors and Shotgun Spiked Seltzers or beer. There was some great live music too. I love it when different vendors come together to make these fun events happen!!!

If you’re coming here for a movie night, couple things to keep in mind. The current parking system is bad, but can be improved upon. They line the cars up smallest in front, largest in back, which is fair, but we were the first large vehicle to arrive and got the absolute worst spot at the far end of the movie screen. What they should implement is first through the gates get the better parking spots in the center, and then branch out from there alternating which side the vehicle parks on. They had burgers for sale; $8 for a single patty, $13 for a double patty. They were just kept warmed up in foil in a cooler. For a burger that pricey, you’d think they would cook them fresh. Eat before you come or bring snacks. The movie didn’t start until 9pm (it was listed on the website as starting at 8pm) which was very frustrating. There could be some more seating / tables. Free alcohol was the only silver lining. Ended up not watching the movie and just having drinks next to the fire, which is why I gave this an extra star than it deserves.

It was a fun experience. Think Country (Pasture Party) with something for everyone... Wish they had more non-alcohol drink selections (especially 4 kids) & more food options. Get there early to get a front row spot if you want, but front row is not a must- you can see pretty much anywhere. Do be cautious of people parking All around you. The guy behind us wanted to be like 3 inches from my bumper, which Was Not Cool! It was a cool place for families with kids to run around & play, single/dating people to listen to music & hang out, & groups of friends to drink & have fun.

Staff was kind. Burgers were delicious from the firetruck grill and tap. The outdoor theater was welcoming and had outdoor seating, fire pits, hay stacks, and corn hole games. Great family location for a little rest and relaxation!!!

Yelp
Amazing. I cannot recommend this ranch enough. We got a tour from Jason, and the hospitality we received was outstanding. Really genuine Texan men. Would 100% recommend this tour if you're ever near Austin.

Yelp
Jason and Josh are the best. We were in town for the day and randomly reached out to Jason and asked him could we do a tour. he organized the entire thing and Josh did the tour. josh was the best guy ever, and his kindness was amazing. it was the best tour we ever did and we will be fore ever grateful to them. if you go to Texas, please support those guys.

Yelp
I came to Ranger Cattle on a Friday evening with my family. Follow their social media account for details because almost every Friday they offer a drive in movie. It is the perfect evening as you can come early for hamburgers made with ranger cattle beef (INCREDIBLY TASTY), listen to dive music, play games, feed the cows, see real cowboys riding horses around the grounds, etc. Highly recommend for a date night, friends outing, or family time! Definitely will be coming back to pick up stuff to make burgers at home sometime soon.

Yelp
Total disappointment! A drive in with a band, wagyu burgers and cowboys greeting you- what's not to like? Well hold my drink and I'll tell you all about yesterday's awful experience! First of all, it's hard to find and you better be driving a 4x4. We were, so all good but just head my warning that it's a bumpy ride. We get there and were greeting by very nice people, no complaints on the customer service. We were told were to park...way back at the very edge of the cleared property. I don't know why, to be honest, there were spots where visibility would have been better and I thought it was first come, first serve? Nevertheless we parked where we were told, and it was ridiculous. From that spot, the inflatable screen looked like it was 12 inches! What's worse, the radio signal was horrible and none of us in that row could listen to the movie. But I'm getting ahead of myself! When we arrived, we made our way to the band and food area. The band was awesome by the way, the highlight of this nightmare of a night! So kudos to the band!! So all week I'm so excited to have a 'bad ass burger' as they claim to have 'bad ass beef'. Y'all...as soon as we walked up and I couldn't smell any food cooking I knew we were in trouble. They pulled the burger out of a cooler, wrapped in aluminum foil. I KID YOU NOT. It looked like the ready-made burgers you'll see at the gas station, 7-11 style. They weren't even warm! They had nothing on them. They'd been sitting so long that the bun was stuck to the meat. The meat was flavorless and full of hard pieces, I couldn't even eat it. They only had bags of BBQ chips, that's it. That was their food selection. Guys we're spending $50 per car and I'm expecting a pretty swanky experience. Now i'm another $22 in on 2 burgers that taste like cold gas station burgers. We head back to the vehicle to watch the movie and they really need to have some of them cowboys watching the madness. For the first 30 minutes you had people turning on their headlights, their brake lights, relocating..I mean just a circus. No one comes to tell them to 'settle down' so the rest of us that can't hear the movie and can barely see the movie are now even more disappointed. The straw that broke the camel's back (as if all of the above wasn't enough), they started burning a fire without consideration for the fact that it was pretty windy last night. So guess what? Yep, all the smoke was blowing right into the crowd. Now I can't hear the movie, I could barely see it before and now my eyes are watering and our row begins to (yet again) relocate. Headlights and brake lights, car engines, smoke.... Yeah, we left 30 minutes into it. Worst $72 dollars I've spent!

Yelp
I was a little skeptical at the marketing but decided the family needed a social-distanced social-night. I was actually quite impressed. It's a tad bit hard to locate and a sign at the gas station could've helped, but as you drive in, the cool factor hits. First, dozens of cows grazing. Then, cowboys on horses guiding the cars into spots. We estimate there were 80-100 cars and 250+ people out there. We needed to be far away from where most people were hanging for health safety reasons and they were quite understanding and accommodating. The movie started right on time and the sound quality was reliable. The screen is a bit small compared to the Buda option but the atmosphere was right on. A good live band entertaining for a couple of hours before the movie, free beer and $8 cheeseburgers. If you want a good movie experience, go to Buda but if you want a lively outing and a full entertainment experience, this option is rock solid even at $50+tax per car.

Yelp
Ranger Cattle is the benchmark when it comes to the most premier beef. Josh and Cole go above and beyond from all avenues of business. Top notch customer service, bad ass beef, unbelievable drive in movie nights and private events that will blow your mind. We are always happy to support veterans and Texas local companies. Ranger cattle is the front runner.

Yelp
This is easily my favorite place to go for my beef. The staff and the environment is amazing and such a nice way to get away from the city without having to go far. Josh and Cole were extremely accommodating and kind. Cannot wait to go back!! Also what isn't to like about cows and cowboys?

Yelp
Ventured down to Ranger Cattle for the drive-in movie. Such a fun time! Definitely get there early to enjoy the good music, food, and drinks. Beer from Independence brewery was super tasty, and next time we will try a hamburger. All the staff is very friendly, movie was nice and clear and you definitely can see the screen well even when parked near the back. Speakers allow you to sit outside your vehicle as well. Loved the ambiance. Very dog friendly, little kids having fun and everyone was enjoying themselves. We will definitely be back!!
