Nolla

"Nolla means ‘Zero’ and this incredibly friendly neighbourhood restaurant is all about zero waste. They don’t accept packaging from their suppliers; their uniforms are made from discarded bed linen; and they have their own composter and microbrewery. Original dishes showcase local ingredients and give a nod to Spain." - Michelin Inspector

MICHELIN Guide 2020: The New Sustainability Emblem

"We use common sense to prevent waste which, over time, becomes a trend that everyone benefits from. It's painful to see waste and neglect and, once it is done, we cannot go back. It's simply a mindset and, for us, now a daily routine." - The MICHELIN Guide Nordic Editorial Team

Nolla is an absolute MUST visit when in Helsinki. Visited for dinner and it was incredible! We were warmly welcomed on arrival and after being shown to our table the restaurant's zero-waste mission was explained. It's clear that the staff are as passionate and impressed by what the restaurant does as the diners are! All ingredients are sourced within 250km of the front door, glass is recycled and composted waste is returned to suppliers to complete the circle. We went with the five-course Chef's Choice menu, which was an excellent choice as it offered a lot of variety and was excellent value. The dishes were chosen from the menu and we got to enjoy sourdough bread and butter, cured pike perch, deer tartar and grilled oyster mushrooms, followed by the catch of the day for the main and finally celeriac ice cream for dessert. These were truly inspired courses of cooking and the flavours were incredible. I don't think there was a single dish that I wasn't wowed by! Whilst a pairing option is available we ordered our own drinks - the cocktails were particularly good. Icing on the cake really is the staff, they were all so genuinely lovely and made the night extra special. We wanted a special meal for the last night of a three-week trip to Europe, and Nolla absolutely delivered in providing the best meal of the trip. Be sure to make a booking, it's worth it!

The food was amazing! We ate the 5 course menu and I can definitely recommend it. Also the wines and drinks were great. The interior is nice as well and I liked the atmosphere a lot.

We were fortunate enough to be seated at the chef's table, and had the four course tasting menu with wine pairing. Stand out dishes were the grilled pike main and the potato peel ice cream desert, but all dishes were absolutely stunning. Final bill was very reasonably priced considering the quality of food and level of service, both of which were outstanding.

This place is a fantastic Finnish restaurant! 🇫🇮 Ravintola Nolla offers a wonderful selection of delicious 🤤 dishes 🍽️ made from locally sourced ingredients. They have a zero 0️⃣ waste 🗑️ policy and compost their leftovers to be sent back to the farms 👩‍🌾 they source the ingredients from. The place is nicely decorated 🛋️, staff 👨‍🍳 is friendly and professional, service is quick ⏲️, and the ambience 🎶 is great! I wish I knew about this place earlier!

Excellent food, service and atmosphere. The staff is super friendly. We had a 4-course meal. Everything was beautifully presented, with a nice balance of flavour. The portion is just right and the price is reasonable for the quality.

Ravintola Nolla acts as a pioneer and trendsetter in the Finnish restaurant world in how the circular economy and sustainable development are 100% implemented in the restaurant world. For example. The staff's clothing, food packaging, and the entire restaurant's energy consumption have been designed and implemented without compromising values. I would say that visit to Restaurant Nolla proves that the values of sustainable development and good food can go hand in hand.

Nolla provided a great first experience with clean, refined flavors and a quality that ranks among the top restaurants I've visited. The purist concepts and delicious combinations with clean and harmonious flavors easily met the expectations. The service was generally professional, though there were minor issues with discussions about the availability of items on the menu. When I inquired about cheese for the third course, it led to some confusion and me deciding to skip it. There were a few other small inconsitencies, but nothing that impacted the experience significantly. However, since the rest of the staff was very friendly and positive, I am sticking with an overall 5/5 rating.

Are you ready? You'll need to be ready for a few things if you want to dine here. 3 courses is a must if you want to change from hungry to not hungry. You need to be ready to hear the opening speech repeated for each table around you. You need to be ready for crayfish sauce to be somehow infused into the (be ready for the gnocchi to be fried) dish, as opposed to a, you know, sauce. You need to be ready for well cooked veggies, some listed, some not. Be ready for your goose slice to be very firm, not soft whatsoever. You need to be ready for desserts that really don't sound tempting and service that's good, but doesn't get you over the line to order one. Oh yeah, you need to be ready to pay €5 for bread that really isn't very good. Rye, that's so dry as to need dusting and sourdough that barely qualifies as such. Oh, and be ready to slow down and relax. You will take 90 minutes before the dessert is served. We had a reasonably ok meal. But it's pitched higher and wasn't.
