"In 2019, local restaurateur Aaron Gordon swapped out Red Light’s “unremarkable” bar fare menu in favor of Detroit-style square pizza. Chef Naomi Gallego, who makes wood-fired pies at Little Beast in Chevy Chase, led the charge on bringing the same deep dish pies she used to devour growing up in Michigan to D.C. The corner destination for carbs and cocktails also does takeout and delivery, with a late-night happy hour featuring $10 shoot-and-beer combos. Manny & Olga’s is also a prime pick on the strip for on-the-go pizza." - Tierney Plumb, Eater Staff
"When: Friday-Saturday, 10pm-last call The Deal: $6 Red light lager, $9 classic cocktails, and $10 shots and beers. Locking yourself out of your apartment at midnight isn’t so bad if you live within walking distance to Red Light Bar & Detroit Pizza. The corner bar in Logan Circle has a sidewalk patio that attracts anyone tempted by the smell of pizza. And while the pies are just decent—Detroit style pizza is hard to get right—it's the $9 espresso martinis that end up making people stay. " - Omnia Saed

"Bootleg is a pizza truck specializing in a type of square pie that, frankly, is a bit hard to define. One could make an argument that it’s Sicilian, Detroit-style, or even traditional pan pizza, but it’s kind of a mix of all three: heavy on the tomato sauce, topped with everything from veggies to pastrami, and featuring a thick, crispy crust with a soft interior that makes every bite feel like you’re biting into a custom-made pizza pillow. Pies rotate frequently, but the pepperoni-covered “Pep’d Up” is a mainstay and should always be on your order." - Brant Cox
"Aaron Gordon, owner of the Red Light bar on 14th Street NW, expressed regret over not being better prepared for the influx of customers on a sunny Saturday. Customers gathered on the patio, ignoring city orders, to enjoy to-go drinks and Detroit-style pizza. This led to a chaotic situation as the kitchen struggled to keep up with the demand. Despite the increased sales, the bar received a warning from the city's liquor authority. The Red Light has since changed its policies to prevent similar situations." - Gabe Hiatt
