"If you’re looking for a great place to grab a cup of coffee, Redstart has you covered. This cafe opened right around the time the pandemic hit, but it quickly captured the hearts of Pittsburgh’s residents. What makes Redstart so good? Well, the coffee is great for one, but there’s also a great deal of planning that went into the set up of the place. With plenty of room to sit and work, or sit and chat, and tempting sweets, this coffee shop is sure to warm you up. This place has a great vibe and even better staff." - Dani Janae

The cold brew was excellent. The cafe is pretty large and there is very comfortable seating. You can easily work out of here as many people were doing. One of the more modern cafes I have been to in Pittsburgh.

As a nature photographer who loves birds, I was over the moon when I found Redstart Roasters. The interior is so welcoming with large leather sofas and a large table to work from. There are outlets for your laptop everywhere too. The coffee is excellent. I had a dirty chai and a straight chai. I was waiting for my car to be repaired, so I was there for a while. They have a small selection of food, muffins, and scones mostly. That said, the muffins are delicious. Also, I saw on their website that they often have food trucks. Plus, they have a free parking lot (not that I needed it since my car was in the shop) but a friend I ran into was having a meeting and told me it's how he gets suburbanites to meet him there - lol. If you're looking for a really great coffee that is ecologically sourced or just a really nice place to hang out and get some work done, you need to check out Redstart Roasters.

We were passing through town and searched for coffee shops with roasters and came across this cool store. Love that they’ve chosen to focus on birds and then assign different species to different coffees - all “bird friendly”. We got a decaf latte and a regular americano to go plus a couple of bags - their one decaf (a Peruvian) and a Colombian that I found to be on the darker side of medium and ok for lattes. Next time we’re through town I’ll want to try something lighter roast. Their cafe had nice seating areas and they had typical coffee store merch. Do recommend.

Mellow spot. I like all the different seating options and how simple the drink menu is. Sometimes it would be nice if there were more new drinks or the pastries got switched up a bit. The baristas are all nice with a good sense of humor.

Google
First time visiting and I want to go back! They focus on environmentally conscious coffee that protect native bird habitats, which is awesome. Plus the coffee was delicious. I had a cappuccino and pour over, the pour over was very nice and the notes were as described. Also picked up a bag of coffee for home! The space is also beautiful. Love the vibe in there and casual seating.

Google
What a delightful find. Btw, ty for 200K views! Hidden in a residential complex off Penn Ave by Penn Circle East is this unassuming coffeehouse with solid Cortados and a wide selection of tea. I stopped by this place and found - Plenty of Seating - Benches if you want a little privacy - Open sitting room with library vibes - And it's like, really quiet I'm not sure how redstart got their start, but I'm glad I stopped in. I got a delicious, well made drink for $4 and was able to while away a bit of the afternoon whilst copywriting on my laptop. If you've been to KLVN Coffee House, this place has a similar, but much quieter vibrance. No loud voices, just the sounds of an espresso machine whirring away against a soft music background. Check out the pics for their coffee and menus, chocolate and pastry case.

Redstart Roasters is one of those coffee shops that not only provides a good product and service, but also has a unique mission that they strive to achieve. One of the best things about this place isn’t their orchid latte (although it is absolutely delicious), but their dedication to being a bird friendly cafe and roaster. The service is fantastic and quick. Clemmy, a partner here, was welcoming and knowledgeable about the cafe, it’s offerings, and the goal of the company. He provided me with tons of details on the flavor profiles of their coffees and it was nice to learn that they ethically source everything. If you’re looking for a delicious spot with a great mission look no further!

Google
Amazing atmosphere and coffee. Last dedicated coffee shop in the area that offers a plain, black coffee for a very reasonable price (<$3.75). Espresso drinks are also very good, especially the seasonal offerings.

Yelp
Good espresso and a nice place to enjoy it. Took a bag of beans back to California and while it lasted enjoyed memories of Pittsburgh in the mornings.

Yelp
bird-themed coffee shop! their drinks are great and their interior is a great cozy study spot. use google maps navigation (walking mode) to find the entrance if needed! the doors are usually open but if they're not it might be hard to spot the entrance. not the most crowded but the one table that's best for working gets pretty full quickly. however, there's a lot of nearby couches and other seats you can work on. i love the coffee beans they sell as well: they make a good gift.

Yelp
Local bird themed coffee shop in East Liberty. Coffee is pretty cheap (around $5) but their scones were deceptively expensive ($4), although it was tasty! Got the garlic cheddar one (comes wrapped in plastic wrap and not warmed up) and it was delicious microwaved for a few seconds. Super garlicky and cheesy and not dry at all -- it was almost a bit stringy like a crab cake (I think from the cheese?) I liked the texture but it was definitely not the typical crumbly scone texture I'm used to. I also got an ube latte which was good (they can make all drinks decaf btw! helpful because I can't handle caffeine) but didn't really taste anything like ube. Friendly and quick service, and lots of seating inside -- looked like a really good & relatively quiet place to work.

Isabel S.

Yelp
This is a nice coffee shop and not too badly priced. I got my latte for $5. They do not have many options for syrup. There is a parking lot with the shop. Inside, I sat at an arm chair and did my work. There was one long table many people sat at and used. The service was fast because it wasn't too busy that Sunday afternoon.

Morgan S.

Yelp
As someone who loves birds and coffee, this place was for me! Tasty coffee and great mission behind the shop. Friendly baristas and awesome/informative artwork and books

Hernando P.

Yelp
Has the coconut latte and it was absolutely delicious! The ambiance and vibe is what I look for in a coffee shop! The service was so good and it's a place that when I come back to Pittsburgh I'll have to grab a cup!

Sarah M.

Yelp
Coffee is yummy. I like that if you are hanging in the coffee shop they will give you an actual mug instead of wasting a paper one (SAVE THE PLANET!). My complaint is that from the outside this place looks HUGE! But on the inside it is very small and has very little seating. I came on a Friday and had to share a couch with another person I didn't know. Not a very functional workspace. Service barista behind the counter was friendly and efficient. I wish they had another milk alternative besides regular dairy and oat milk.... I think establishments forget some people are allergic to oats and lactose (aka me!).

David A.

Yelp
Great people, great coffee. Wonderful place to hang out. Whether you're working in something, catching up with a friend, or just want to slow down and watch the world turn. And the beans are great.

Sarah W.

Yelp
Darling spot! Super quiet so great for studying. Super nice baristas. Coffee is pretty concentrated and caffeinated so do with that what you will.

Ashley S.

Yelp
I really love this coffee shop! It is a hidden gem in East Liberty. I've been here a handful of times now and every time I go it's pretty empty and quick. It's a great place to study or do work. They have tables and couches set up inside. They have a smaller menu but it's the basics, which is all you really need. They also have a couple pastries too. I like their beans a lot and the message behind them (Bird friendly); I even bought some espresso beans from them to make my lattes at home! They also have a parking lot in front if you drive there.

Amanda S.

Yelp
We have been trying to check out different coffee shops each week so we stopped here. The guy behind the counter was a bit rude when my wife ordered me a vanilla latte. He was extremely pretentious and rude about them not carrying something such as vanilla. Not sure why he had to be so rude about it. I went to sit down with our 3 year old while my wife ordered and didn't have a moment to look at the latte add ins they offered. I ended up with a lavender latte which was good but the amount was pretty lackluster for the price. The only positive from the experience were the bird books throughout. We really enjoyed reading these. Actually ordered one for our table at home. Aside from that, we won't be back. Plenty of other options with less arrogant staff.

Leiny C.

Yelp
They have amazing coffee! I especially love their ube latte, unique flavor that I haven't found in many places. The baristas are also very friendly. The space is very comfortable.

Trish L.

Yelp
Very aesthetic industrialist type vibe coffee shop! I ordered a matcha latte and it was lightly sweetened (per my request) and served in a thick mug. My friend ordered a cortado and paid $1 for oatmilk. She's a vegan and she mentioned that $1 is the highest she's ever been charged to sub for oatmilk. Usually, it's $0.50-$0.75 extra. What was crazy to her was that the drink was so small (in volume) that it was literally a splash of oatmilk that she paid $1 for. We both had two of the available vegan baked goods. My little berry oat square was $4, the same as my drink, and though tasty, I felt was a little overpriced. My friend had the blueberry muffin and it was moist, packed with blueberries, and not overly sweet. The decor and brightness of the space was inviting. It would be a great place to work remotely. Overall, good vibes, just maybe a little pricey for what you get.

Ara S.

Yelp
Came here to do some school work with a friend. Quiet cafe where everybody is being productive, so I was being very productive as well. I loved the vibes and atmosphere. I ordered a maple latte and it was delicious! Absolutely LOVE that they have a parking lot, a rare find in the city!

Aaron P.

Yelp
Coffee here is great. Definitely worth trying one of the specialty drinks. I love that they've got a range of drink flavors without it having an overwhelmingly large menu. I've tried about all of it, but am biased towards the Pandan Latte. It's a relatively unique/rare drink to have around here, but I think they do it perfectly. It has a nice balance of the pandan plant flavor, sweetness, and espresso. Baristas seem pretty chill and will help educate you on their selection of bird-friendly coffees. This place is also great for light remote work and studying as it has plenty of seating and a large table in the back. The table in the back that makes it feel more like an open concept office, so I probably wouldn't take too many calls there. But they do have a small phone booth ready for that.

Tyler S.

Yelp
As of yet, the best coffee I've had in Pittsburgh. Aesthetic is cozy and inviting. Both times I've visited, my girlfriend and I have both gotten lattes, all of which were excellent. Ethically and environmentally conscious sourced coffee is an extra plus. Overall great experience, a personal favorite spot of my girlfriend and I.

Yelp
The non-coffee menu is somewhat limited, but I had a nice little Chai latte at the recommendation of the personable batista. Cute place, love the free, ample, close, and level parking in the lot that surrounds the building where the cafe is located. I would come back to work on my laptop, meet a friend for conversation, or just to sit and sip while reading a book in front of the big picture windows.

Yelp
Bird-friendly coffee!! The lavender latte as well as the maple latte are the perfect way to kickstart your morning. Finest blend of beans brewed to one of the tastiest cups you'll ever have.

Yelp
I stopped by here earlier today with my wife for our morning coffees. We have been trying to hit up local coffee shops every Sunday but had business in East Liberty which made this visit happen on a Saturday. Redstart Roasters is located in the bottom story on an office looking building right across North Euclid Ave from Garland Parklet. This inside of this coffee shop is actually quite large with two separate rooms. The first one is where you place your order and has some seating while the second one is all seating. Since the logo of Redstart Roasters is the American redstart, a lot of their decor is bird themed stuff. For our coffees on this morning I ultimately decided to have a pandan latte. Then I decided to order my wife a mocha, even though it wasn't on the menu as most places can still make it. That ended up not being the case here and I eventually ended up ordering her an iced coconut latte. Our drinks were ready quickly and I was out the door and on our way. My drink ended up being quite good with the coffee and sweetness at the beginning and then some bitterness and flavor from the pandan at the finish. I also tried my wife's coffee and liked that it was pure coconut from start to finish. What that meant though is that I couldn't taste the coffee much which was a bit of a shame since I thought it was good in mine. The bottom line for me is that i would stop by here again in the future. I like not only that they are a roaster (and would love to try an Americano), but also that they had a unique flavor in the pandan.

Charlene C.

Yelp
I love so much about this place but the drinks I have had show they still have a bit of room to grow. The espresso in my iced latte was acidic and the iced matcha I got was completely clumpy and not blended well. Wondering if their hot drinks might be better, but still disappointing that my two go to drinks (and what i imagine are two really popular drinks) were quite poorly made. Other than that, if drink quality is not high on your priorities, the ambience is wonderful, the service is friendly, and there are plenty of charging ports -- making this a wonderful environment to do work in!

Yelp
Nice laid back environment. Sit and sip. Sit and work. Sip and just watch life go by. I judge on the basic americano. Then will work my way thru some pour overs.

Alexandra J.

Yelp
Favorite coffee shop other than Aspen Coffee Company (Edmond, OK) and Intelligensia (Chicago, IL). Easy place to study for hours at a time. Music's not too loud. Windows provide great lighting. Staff is super friendly. Free parking. Clean restroom. Can't go wrong with the pistachio latte. ;)

Peter G.

Yelp
I was in East Liberty and wanted to caffeine up before I got home to do my run. I found this place on line. It's in a tucked away place on Euclid Ave. They have a nice menu of different coffees at very reasonable prices. I got a cappuccino for only $4.00. The atmosphere is very clean and quiet. I will be stopping in more often when I'm in East Liberty.

Lauren B.

Yelp
I found this place randomly as I was looking for coffee shops within walking distance of my mechanic (Aaamo) while I waited for my car to be serviced. This place is kind of hard to find since it's off the beaten path inside an office building so it's not easy to see the storefront (which faces a parking lot). The ambiance is spacious with a few different brightly lit seating areas and I loved the bird-themed decor and their focus on conservation and sustainable coffee practices. The coffee was delicious and reasonably priced and they roast their own beans. It was a nice place to get work done on the wifi while I waited for my car.

Sarah A.

Yelp
Redstart is a hidden gem. I've had the cortado and maple vanilla latte and both are 10/10. They also have a cool vibe, there's tables that are set up for a great working space but it also has areas for people to sit to have coffee with friends. Also their plants are awesome

Anokhy D.

Yelp
I didn't realize Bureau was replaced by Redstart! While they will be missed, I loved my coffee order at Redstart (ube latte- creamy and sweet without feeling like you're drinking hot ice cream) and liked the vibe in the seating area. The staff and most patrons wore masks, and there was hand sanitizer available as well.

Renee J T.

Yelp
This is a coffee spot as in only coffees and I am loving it ... easy big parking lot as it is the days of the plague there is no seating in side but it is set up and when the plague has gone it will be a perfect place to sit and relax they do have a small table outside to sit and relax very friendly service everything is made to order latte and fresh coffees I had a maple latte it was the best I have ever have sipped smooth but not too sweet. there is a good amount of info about their coffees on the menu. they have cute magnets you can put on your fridge to remind ME I need to go back and get a good coffee I wish them well they are right near where I work and I need good coffee

Yijin Y.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and reasonable prices for high quality coffee. They also sell their own bird-themed bags of coffee!!

Eliza J.

Yelp
My first visit to Redstart Roasters exceeded my expectations! I came here bright and early in the morning with the intention of getting some work done for a few hours. It had a great feel, inviting decor, was fairly quiet, and had other people like me on the mission to get some work done. I ordered an oat milk latte and chose an apple strudel muffin for my breakfast treat. The latte tasted great and the muffin was absolutely delicious. I'm not sure of the daily food selection, but as a heads up, there weren't many to chose from when I visited and most of the options were desserts like brownies/cookies. One of the biggest pluses of this spot is that it had free parking! Overall, great coffee and food, nice barista, comfortable and bright working space, and admirable mission. Checks off quite literally everything on my ideal cafe checklist! Highly recommend checking it out.

Natalie Z.

Yelp
Great coffee shop! Menu is small but the drinks are all tasty. Nice staff and good wifi. My husband and I have gone there a few days in a row to work as we wait for our wifi to get fixed and it is a great location to work or hang out with friends!

Emily E.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite spots for coffee in the city. The free parking lot is a huge plus, and there are so many outlets if you want to stay and do work. The coffee is delicious and the employees are all very nice. The atmosphere is really chill and cozy and there is so much natural light.

Wayne L.

Yelp
What a great coffee shop and roaster. Love the entire concept. Great coffee + bird nerds. The latte and muffin I had were both delicious. The ambiance and design of the space is stunning and I'd love to sit here and read in a post-Covid world. I picked up two bags of their coffee. The labels are beautifully designed and I can't wait to try the coffee that's bird friendly.

Nicole S.

Yelp
Great conditions for remote work. The environment is very clean and there's a lot of space to set up your laptop or other work supplies. The staff is extremely friendly and hospitable. I'm not a huge coffee drinker, but really enjoyed the orchid latte. I'd definitely come back and recommend this place to a friend. 10/10!

Caroline F.

Yelp
Got a cold brew today and WOW! Probably the smoothest cold brew I've had in a while. The people working were super friendly, the prices were very reasonable, and the space is gorgeous and full of natural light. Also super easy parking right out front. I can't wait till COVID is over because I'll definitely be coming here to get work done. Plus they're very environmental friendly and their coffee is all about being Bird friendly.

Carly B.

Yelp
Had a great experience at the newly opened Redstart Roasters! Ordered a latte that was amazing and got to peek at what a fantastic space this is - if you're in the East Liberty area you must check it out! There is a large parking lot directly outside the shop and the owner Matt was incredibly friendly & knowledgeable!

Lexi R.

Yelp
Popped in here for an iced latte- FANTASTIC! The space has always been a favorite but the coffee was wonderful, along with the service. Will definitely be coming back anytime I'm in the area.

Katie B.

Yelp
This is one of the best coffee shops in the city to do work in. The tables are huge and there are outlets everywhere. Nice, quiet atmosphere. The coffee is excellent, and the seasonal flavors are always unique, but delicious (I didn't know what Ube was but it's my new favorite seasonal flavor). There's also cute merch here.

Bryce B.

Yelp
Barista was rude. Made my latte with the wrong kind of milk. Small menu. Coffee was good.

Charlene L.

Yelp
Redstarts Roasters is amazing!!! The place has a very modern vibe and it is so comfortable to do work, perfect to get things done! The coffee is the absolute best the taste is so rich and fulfilling great service. I highly recommend this place.

Shaun R.

Yelp
We were visiting from out of town for the weekend, and one of my favorite things to do in a new city is check out coffee shops. Redstart was one of our first stops upon arriving, since our hotel was a few blocks away, and we needed to get caffeinated. The shop itself is awesome -- excellent ambience and atmosphere, and is nice and spacious with a few comfy chairs and couches, and a long table for study. The staff was very friendly as well. But the real star of the store is (as it must be) the coffee. I was intrigued by the Ube Latte, and only had a vague inkling of what ube is (alas). When it was explained as being kind of like sweet potato with an umami quality, but also sweet, I was very intrigued. My girlfriend and I both ordered one...and we loved it! The roast of the coffee was exceptional, and reminded my of my favorite coffee shop back in Columbus, OH. And the ube was good too -- subtle and not overpowering, but definitely sweet enough to not require extra sweetener, and very smooth. This is a spot we'll gladly return to on our next visit, and hopefully yinz locals start coming in droves too.
