Relic Bageri Opening New Bakery Cafe and Restaurant in the East Village - Eater San Diego

"Relic Bageri was born during the pandemic in 2020 when Samantha Bird was laid off from her dream job as a pastry chef at Mille Fleurs. Bird and partner Derek Hadden began baking out of her North Park apartment kitchen, eventually moving into Makers Kitchen in the Miramar area. They have been running sellout Sunday pop-ups out of a private commercial kitchen space for the past two years. The bakery is known for a highly creative lineup of pastries and baked goods that span both sweet and savory spectrums. Relic Bageri plans to open a permanent storefront in the East Village, with a large patio and indoor seating. The new location will serve as a full-fledged restaurant offering plated lunch dishes, dinner, beer, and wine. The Miramar location will remain open for pre-order pickups and sourdough production." - Candice Woo

Make sure to preorder because they sell out super quickly. Once you preorder, the process is seamless. Walk in, show your order number, grab the box and leave. There are about three tables so most people leave after picking up—which makes the small parking space work. The pastries blew my mind, especially the savory one with tomato. The flavors really worked and the dollops of pesto were just chef’s kiss. I was wondering if the pastry was going to be soggy because of all the moist toppings, but, oh boy. Every single bite was a beautiful sound of crisp. I could hear and feel the crunch in each bite and the buttery thin layers of pastry was just perfect. It’s probably the best tasting and masterfully made pastry I had in San Diego. The size wasn’t as big as I thought it would be (which was not an issue and the pricing was still reasonable for the size and the quality). I’ll just order two for myself next time! 😋 The double chocolate pastry was a bit of a miss for us because there was just too much chocolate which kind of overtook the entire pastry flavor. The layers were impressive and aesthetically pleasing though. We can’t wait to try their other pastries. The way they mastered the flavors for the tomato one makes me think their other savory ones would be as impressive. I appreciate their creative take on flavors and how they make them so beautifully. We’re excited to finally have a bakery that serves top quality pastries!

I first heard about relic from instagram and decided to try them out. After our first weekend there we basically go most weekends to pick up some pastries. I love how they have new items every month and it’s always a treat to try out some of their newest creations. They have some of the best laminated pastries we’ve tried in SD. Not only are their pastries great, but their sandwiches have been super tasty as well, we loved their bologna sandwich. I’m really happy they will be opening their own store front soon, but sad the pop up won’t be at their current location anymore. Overall a great place to get your pastry fix every weekend!

Order ahead to beat the lines. The pastries are fresh and tasty, and it's great that the selection frequently rotates to give plenty of new options to try. As a shared kitchen it's really only available as a pickup spot rather than a sit down location. A handful of chairs can be seen outside if you can't wait to eat.

Google
I really give it to these guys for the hard work they put into their bakery. They make some really amazing and unique pastries from all over the world. They create the most beautiful pastry but I prefer my pastry to not have the addition of Lavender, Blue Cheese, etc. I like my pastries made the traditional way they do in France, Denmark, Sweden, Belgium, etc. That is my preference but that does not mean that they are not incredible for others. I give them 4 stars because I often find the added “funky” flavor to be overpowering. The blueberry cheesecake danish was so good without the Miso added, the fruit danish today was so special but then the lavender killed it, the Kouign Amann which is usually my favorite pastry traditionally had a salted caramel drizzle that was so strong I no longer could taste the buttery pastry. I find that the Chocolate Croissant is my favorite thing. Traditional and made with the best ingredients. Thats my .02 to share but they sure put a tremendous amount of love and hard work into Relic. Others rave about the pastries here. If that sounds like something you may enjoy, don’t miss the experience. The people are so kind and I only hope that they may take the feedback as a way to maybe just make a few of their creations without the “funky” addition each week. :)

We like to try the new items on their menu once a month, and have always had a 10/10 experience. The flavors are so unique but you can always trust Relic to do a great job (we're so glad you're in our neighborhood!!) Their weekend sammies are great too. Recommend pre-ordering or going in earlier in the morning on weekends.

I’ve been wanting to try Relic Bakery for months, and I’m so glad I finally did—it was hands down the best baked goods I’ve ever had! Some of our favorites were the lemon and orange citrus twist, the chocolate almond orange bostock, the Earl Grey pumpkin cake, and the pistachio pomegranate croissant. Every single item was packed with incredible flavor and baked to absolute perfection. Each bite was honestly mind-blowing. If you’re thinking about stopping by, do it—you will not be disappointed!

We really enjoyed black sesame croissant (not pictured), the seasonal Easter Basket pastry, and the chili crisp cheese and potato Danish. I tried to order online before coming in and was not able to due to the holiday weekend. I was also unable to check online what would be available there but had assumed fresh bread loafs would be available as that was my main intention of visiting this bakery. When we went in we weren't allowed to order any of the bread loafs (they hadn't baked any and didn't put anything online about that) and some pastries due to them being online order only, which was a little frustrating but I didn't mention that I had unsuccessfully tried to order ahead online. So we didn't get any fresh bread loaves, but tried a couple pastries which were admittedly delicious. I did get there at opening time and there was a line out the door and into the small parking lot waiting for the store to open. There seemed to be some catering business loading up a couple things into their van and that was why there was a delay? I am unsure as we stood there for a quarter hour and they only walked by with stuff 3-4 times. People in line started to leave and I probably should have too. There was no explanation, just a small apology to the people waiting patiently in line. It felt inconsiderate of the people waiting. So, I wouldn't bother trying to show up early to run in and grab something again. So all in all: opened 15 minutes late, relying on an underdeveloped website for business, serving delicious pastries, but very expensive.

I came here on a Sunday morning. They open around 9, and I arrived at 11, feeling really excited after seeing all the amazing reviews and photos of their pastries. I was looking forward to trying a variety, but by the time I got there, most of the good options were already gone. There were only about five types of pastries left and a few cookies, and honestly, the selection looked pretty basic, nothing like what I saw in the photos. The chocolate croissant was actually really good and at a great price, so that was a nice surprise. If you’re planning to come here, I definitely recommend pre-ordering in advance to make sure you get the pastries you really want. Also, there’s a coffee pop-up that’s usually there, and their Pandan Matcha drink is amazing, probably one of the best matcha drinks I’ve ever had!!!

Yelp
Ordered two pastries online and picked up Friday noon. There's a small parking lot in the front, and I was able to walk in and pick up my order from the table (the box was labeled with my name), but no one was at the table itself. I got a potato cheese tile ($5.75) and a turkey swiss cranberry croissant ($5.75). The pastries were both excellent, flaky and buttery with ideal ratios of their respective fillings. You can follow their socials for updates and menu offerings, which rotate often.

Yelp
Will travel for pastries. Excited today to pick up my pre-order of Relic treats from their Mira Mesa storefront. Appreciated being able to order ahead, the location was easy to find, and my order was waiting for me to quickly retrieve upon arrival. Upon lifting the box lid, I was delighted with the visual appeal of each of the half dozen pastries. Once home, I got to sampling. Each pastry was well crafted, tasted as though real butter was used in the dough, and the trend amongst them was careful layering. My favorites were the eggnog Danish and tiramisu Danish. Both presented excellent flavor profiles and had generous portions of flavored cream inside. Unfortunately a few others fell flat in the flavor department. Most notably the cardamom bun, which had only the faintest cardamom flavor and was too dry as well. I would have preferred the peppermint bark croissant to be filled with peppermint flavored cream but it had chocolate cream instead so I also tasted very little peppermint flavor there. The Salted caramel kougin aman and the luxardo cherry pain suisse fell somewhere in the middle--good, but not very memorable. I expected higher flavor consistency given the price point and the trek I made up to Mira Mesa to get these. However, wish this business success since they seem to be trying to do something different with old world recipes and creative, oft-rotating flavors.

Yelp
I've been meaning to come here for a very long time but I keep forgetting to preorder. Finally I remember to order during the week and got Friday pickup because I heard the weened pick up can have really long lines. I ordred the Ham/Cheese/Mustard croissant, Double pain au chocolate, pumpkin cheesecake danish, and Karanchi chili crisp cream cheese danish. When I arrived to pickup, there was only two other people picking up items, one had preordered the other had stopped in and was purchasing items that they had on hand. There was a small parking lot but I easily found parking. Service was friendly I had a pic of my order number and they had it ready and waiting. I could purchase other addition items if I wanted but I had more than enough. First off everything was very light flakey and delicious. The ham and cheese croissant was delicious, savory ham surrounded by crispy buttery croissant. The mustard was present but didn't over power it, im not such a fan of mustard but it was very minimal and actually added to it. The Karanchi chili crisp cream cheese danish was spicy, I was not expecting it to be so spicy but I was happily surprised. I'm glad that they did not back down from the spice, it was made of very fine threads of pastry twisted around chili crisp spice. The cream cheese in the middle was also flavored with the chili crisp. If you like spicy I highly recommend this one! The 2 sweet ones I ate the next day, I took a bite first and they had lost their crisp texture from the night before. I heated them up in the toaster oven for a few minutes at 325º they bounced right back after letting them cool for a few minutes. The double pain au chocolate was amazing! Chocolate croissant with a chocolate filling! The outside is covered with a layer of fine pastry threads which makes it very crispy! The pumpkin cheesecake danish was the largest of the batch, but because it was so thick and had the most filling, it was more difficult to heat up so the parts that were touching the pumpkin cheesecake filling were not as crispy as the outside. I'd suggest eating them the first day! The flavor was very good though so I wish I had eaten them fresh. Id say this is easily among the best bakeries in San Diego, if not THE best but everyones got their own opinion. I hear they are opening a brick and mortar place in East Village. its a large space, I hope they do well there, this model seems to work so well. Maybe they can rent part of the space to a coffee roaster/cafe as a complementary business. I wish them well in their new space, I'll be there when it opens!

Yelp
Came here to pick up Thanksgiving pies. Was blown away by the quality and taste. Yum. Also tried some other pastries, also very good. Just be careful that their parking lot is a bit small so be patient.

Yelp
I've had my eye on this pop-up pastry spot for a while, and today, post-workout, I finally had the perfect excuse to treat myself! I got there about 15 minutes before they opened, and, no surprise, a small crowd of foodies was already waiting. We bonded over our shared love of hunting down great eats, hyping each other up as we peeked at the menu. The excitement was real. About 30 minutes later, it was my turn at the pastry counter, and let me tell you--I did not hold back. Five savory pastries, five sweet ones--don't judge me, I call it balance! The winter vegetable galette was the MVP for the savory side. That buttery, flaky crust just melted in my mouth, and the vegetables? Perfectly cooked in a savory custard sauce that tied everything together like a chef's kiss. For the sweet category, the Nutella morning bun stole the show. Imagine layers upon layers of crispy, flaky goodness wrapped around gooey Nutella perfection. It was love at first bite. And to top it all off, the owner was incredibly kind and even gave me a free pastry to try. Such a thoughtful touch! Between the friendly vibe, amazing pastries, and great company in line, it turned out to be an unexpectedly delightful morning.

Yelp
since my last review, I have probably ordered 10 more times for order pick up. I am becoming a big fan of Relic's savory pastries. They have such awesome ideas for the meat and vegetarian rotations. Most recently, their pork belly tile is just amazing! The pork belly marinade is refreshing, with a spicy kick. It complements the pastry so well. The pork belly stayed soft and tender. I typically split each pastry with family; but after eating a small piece of the pork belly tile, I wanted a whole one for myself! Super excited they are moving towards their own storefront.

Yelp
A bakery that actually does unique food right. I was hesitant to try yet another trendy bakery, especially after reading some reviews that said it was okay. I decided to check it out anyway because I still love trying new places and new food. I'm glad I did because I was pleasantly surprised by the uniqueness and execution. I ordered: rocky road pain suisse -- 7/10 a marshmallowy super sweet pastry. A little too sweet for me, but if you like sweet pastries or marshmallows/smores, then this is perfect for you! duck fat pear pastry -- 8/10 a blend of sweet and savory! You do taste the duck fat flavor, and it's really subtle so it doesn't overpower the pear blue cheese dark chocolate chip cookie -- 8/10 a unique blend of cheese and chocolate. I was most curious about this combo, and you do taste the blue cheese. It's not for me because I don't like blue cheese, but they balanced the flavors really well. If they can add blue cheese to a cookie, I wonder what other flavors they can incorporate! lavender goat butter shortbread -- 8/10 shortbread is really easy to make poorly, and really difficult to make well. Relic Bageri makes the shortbread well, and you can taste the lavender. I don't really like lavendar, but again I'm really impressed with how well they're able to incorporate clear flavors into their pastries. The shortbread itself was pretty good quality. pork belly tile -- 9/10 this one was one of my favorites. I love to eat pastries for lunch but most often you will find basic ham and cheese croissants. I'm so glad I found a new savory pastry. This is genius actually, why didn't anyone think of this sooner?? brown butter pecan caramel blondie -- 6/10 this one was my least favorite. I can't say no to brown butter or pecans, but this was a little too sweet for me After trying a variety of their pastries, my conclusion is that I really like their savory pastries and more traditional pastries. They're able to execute on including unique flavors into their pastries, and I appreciate how they choose to innovate by thinking outside the box. I would love to return and try their sandwiches! And get some more of their savory pastries! I still daydream about their pork belly pastry!

Yelp
One of my all time favorite bakeries in all of SoCal. The owners history is interesting with one working in (Samantha) Denmark and then she moved to France. The other owner (Derek) is from Iowa and they make great partners. Have ordered from there 3 different times and only remembered to upload 1 photo. :-( All pastries are made to perfection and my only complaint is having to order a few days in advance. Mon-Wed and pick-up is Fri-Sat. They have other options from their web site but haven't looked into it. Can't wait to order and not forget photos.

Yelp
Really great bakery and one of the best in socal. I'm so glad I found them. Their pastry is superb. The layers in their plain croissant are pretty much perfection - I can't find fault with it. I love grabbing a plain croissant to see how it sets the bar for the quality and technique of the bakery. And I will say that ALL the pastry dough for each of their seasonal items were top notch. Sometimes I didn't really care too much for a flavor or certain pastry (Karanchi chili crisp croissant), but the pastry itself was THAT good that I ate the entire thing. You will not go wrong with any of their goods, and their seasonal menu is definitely worth grabbing more than a few items. Logistics - google maps gets the location right, and there is a small parking lot in front. If that lot is full, there's ample street parking. Entrance is from Commerce Ave. Best way to know when to go and how to order is their instagram. They update the most there. Definitely check to see if you need to pre order or you can walk up. Sunday walk up pop up gets BUSY so definitely get there 15-30 minutes before doors open (9:30am at time of writing). I got there at 9:35 to line up and they had already sold out of a few items when I got to the front. Well, you can't fault an amazing bakery for having SO many fans....

Yelp
Great pastries but I'm a little disappointed there was no ribbon on the matcha like advertised. I asked the lady at the front and she said it doesn't come with a ribbon even though it was in the pictures.

Yelp
Relic Bageri in Miramar is an absolute gem for those who appreciate top-notch pastries. It's a no-frills bakery focused on delivering incredible quality. I highly recommend pre-ordering a day or two in advance to secure your favorites, especially if you're visiting during the busy weekend. Walking up to purchase is also an option, but arriving close to their opening hours is a must for the best selection. On our visit, we pre-ordered: * Cardamom Bun * Peppermint Bark Croissant * Lamb Sausage Roll * Fig Chai Danish * Spruce Tip Salted Caramel Roll My absolute favorites are the Cardamom Bun--a perfectly spiced classic--and the Kouign-Amann, which has the perfect caramelized crunch and buttery layers. I was also excited to try some of their holiday flavors, and they didn't disappoint! Relic Bageri is a must-visit for pastry lovers. Whether you pre-order or walk up, you'll find something delicious that's worth every bite.

Yelp
Believe the hype. I have been wanting to try these pastries for a while and oh boy are they GOOD. As someone that comes from a cardamom-loving culture, I get excited when I come across a cardamom treat. And Relic's cardamom bun hit the spot. Easily my favorite out of the 4. Their seasonal items - pumpkin pie tiramisu danish + marzipan poppy & sesame danish - we're both fantastic. The pumpkin pie tiramisu was too sweet for my personal taste but delicious. And the marzipan poppy & sesame was incredible. A nice aromatic blend of the seeds. My least favorite was probably the black sesame taro croissant. I honestly just tasted the black sesame which was a very strong taste. Not bad but I thought I would taste the taro more. But there was this delicious filling in the croissant that was so good - I actually paired it with the cardamom bun and loved it. So all in all, 10/10 experience. Loved it and can't wait to try more. Quite possibly the best baked goods I've had in town. Yum!

Yelp
SOOOO GOOD best croissants i've ever had!!! my first time at relic after hearing amazing things and it exceeded my expectations. I got 5 pastries from the sept menu, but my favorite is the peppercorn sausage croissant with the sauce on top. Super nice balance of flavors. My next fav was the almond croissant which was so perfectly flaky and had such a nice almond filling inside. Reese's had a bit too much peanut butter cream for my liking, but flavor is good nonetheless. The pistachio chocolate was insane with the famous knafeh inside, so delicious! Will be coming back to try their monthly menus! Arrived around 15 mins before they opened and not that many people in line! Service is super quick. They don't list prices on their menu in store I think, but each pastry is around $5-7 which i think is pretty good since the ingredients are super fresh, artisan, and the actual pastries are huge!! They are bigger than what it looks like in the pictures
google avatar

Roger P.

Yelp
Relic Bageri has been on my list for a long time and it was hard to find a time to visit since the pop-up store is only on Sundays. The menu changes each month so be sure to follow their IG for updates! If you see something that you like, go and visit before it's gone! It's in an obscure location in Miramar and the parking lot is tiny. There's plenty of street parking though. And when we visited, the line wasn't too bad but I heard it can get crazy later in the day. Some of my friends usually line up before they open! If you decide to eat in front of the store, there's a couple of patio table and chairs. They didn't have everything on their pop-up menu ready, which was unfortunate. But we bought more than enough pastries to last us for awhile. Obviously, it's not going to be as good the next day but we couldn't help ourselves. Our eyes were bigger than our stomachs and there were so many unique flavors that you don't usually see at a typical pastry shop. It's kind of expensive so if you buy a box full, the price quickly adds up. Highly recommend if you're free on a Sunday!
google avatar

Alyssa N.

Yelp
I came on a Sunday morning and there was no wait at all! It was so awesome. I loved the assortment they had! It's in a lowkey spot in like a business center. The bakery itself is small with a few tables and benches to feast on. They had coffee and some meats for sale too. I got the pistachio croissant (which is like if the Dubai chocolate was a croissant), shepherds pie croissant, and pecan croissant. I was a bit skeptical of the shepherds pie it was super crispy despite having a good amount of meat and mashed potatoes on top. The guy helping me out recommended it and I LOVED IT. Hype it up!! Anyways the pistachio one wasn't too sweet and the crunch from the kunafa was so supreme!!! My three pastries were about $20 and even saving it for later it was still good! I think they have a rotating menu and they won't be open on sundays for a bit so check it out on a diff day.

Yelp
Relic Bageri is truly the BEST hidden gem, offering some of the most delicious artisanal baked goods you'll ever have! Although they are strictly preorder and pickup only (M-W preorder with aFriday or Saturday pickup or Sunday popups!), the quality of their products makes it well worth planning ahead. Every time I've placed an order, I've been blown away by the freshness and craftsmanship. Truly the best part of my week. Their croissants are a standout--flaky, buttery, and baked to perfection. The attention to detail in each pastry is incredible, and the creativity in every single one blows my mind. I always place an order once a month. Ordering is easy, and the pickup process is smooth and efficient. The staff is always friendly and makes sure everything is prepared to perfection. If you're serious about your baked goods, Relic Bageri is a must-try. Their items are worth the extra effort and planning. Absolutely 5 stars!

Yelp
I'm a pastry snob so when I see amazing pastries I have to tell the world. Delish umami flavors with unique combos. Love the chocolate chip blue cheese cookie, love cc cookies and blue cheese separately. Together is had the half pecan - half apple pie for Thanksgiving didn't have leftover pie for the first time
google avatar

Ashley D.

Yelp
This is my favorite bakery in all of San Diego and maybe ever. I love their concept of having a rotating menu each month and I am always impressed by their creativity to come up with new recipes every month. Their pre order and pickup system makes ordering very easy and I'd recommend doing that over going to a pop up. I also recommend trying a variety of their things because they do it all well!

Yelp
Finally got to try this place and was not disappointed. I will mention that maps lead me astray and i got lost in the back of the lot within the industrial buildings, but it was easy to find the way back. These are the best, highest quality pastries you will find in SD. Every pastry was a W, however the Lavender Goat butter cookie was a pass for me. I could see how other people would like it, but it tasted a bit too much like goat cheese for me. The service was quick and the workers were kind and polite despite it being so busy. Can't wait to try more here!

Yelp
we went on sunday morning of halloween weekend at opening and was in line for 30+ min. but it was worth the wait! after waiting in line we got double the treats we were originally planning on getting as they looked so good in person :0 pumpkin tiramisu (9/10) - sprint don't walk. this was the best one that we tried. the pumpkin cream was a perfect compliment to the flaky pastry. it was chefs kiss if you like pumpkin! kouign amann (8/10) - this type of pastry is my favorite in general since it has all those layers while having a good crunch from the caramelization of sugar on the bottom. this one was really good and had a sweet and salty flavor as there was a hint of herbs! rocky road (5/10) - this was just a bit dry with the filling being more of a dense filling. just wasn't my taste pork tile (7/10) - i personally like sweet pastries more than savory. the outer pastry was really good! would recommend trying this bakery out and preordering so you don't have to wait in line!

Yelp
Relic Bageri is the best kept secret that's becoming not so secret. While I'd love to keep them all to myself, I love the popularity they're gaining and am so excited for their success and expansion! Like many, I found them on instagram and thought one of two things would be true: either they were going to be as good as they look or it's just another passing fad. Thankfully, after submitting my preorder and trying bites off of their June menu, I can say with certainty that they are the real deal. I dream of the matcha creme brulee danish. I'm honestly so sad that was a June special because I got it 3 separate times and now it's gone *tear*. But everything I've tried has been delicious. I've done the preorders twice, which is really the way to go. That way you avoid the long pop up line. I've also gone down to Rikka Fikka to pick up their pastries on a Thursday. You can always check the instagram to see what they've delivered for the day. Their fun, creative flavors are truly what sets them apart. LOVE!

Yelp
Online pre-order system was relatively easy. I noticed that sometimes the website is delayed from their Monday noontime pre-order opening time. Pick up: also very easy and quick. Parking: not many spaces available inside the business center location, but plenty of street parking. Pastries: we had very high expectations due to all the wonderful reviews and the photos of the pastries and descriptions sound yummy. However, my family were disappointed to find the pastries--though beautiful--lacking in flavor! Matcha creme Brûlée 1/5 - bitter unpleasant flavor. We were expecting some kind of custardy texture, but there was nothing creme brûlée about it. It was like soggy bread. We don't like to waste food, but this was really hard to eat. Point for creativity and presentation. Kouign Amann with salted white chocolate caramel 2.5/5 - this had a nice crispy texture, but was way too sweet. Black sesame yuzu twice baked croissant 3.5/5 - though the croissant is very black in color, the black sesame flavor didn't really come though. This ended up being a very dense pastry. Flavor was okay. Would not get again. Double pain Âu chocolate 4/5 - very rich chocolate flavor and delicious. Ham, cheese, mustard seed croissant 4.5/4 - this was one of the best ham & cheese croissants we had. So yummy! Highly recommend. Overall, we wouldn't get high end pastries from here again as there are some other great bakeries around town.

Yelp
I recently discovered Relic Bageri in the Miramesa area and couldn't wait to check it out. Every Sunday, they have a pop-up from 9:30 AM until the pastries sell out. We arrived around 10:15 AM and were surprised to see a line, but it moved fairly quickly. We picked up the jalapeño sausage, the black garlic goat cheese savory pastry, and another one made with peppers and Boursin cheese. The pastries looked delicious, and we couldn't wait to try them. I loved that the bakers were serving the pastries themselves and were available to answer any questions. My favorite was the peppers and cheese pastry, closely followed by the black garlic cheese pastry--both were flaky, flavorful, and the ingredients came together beautifully. If you've been considering checking out this bakery, I highly recommend it. And don't worry about the line; it moves quickly, and it's definitely worth the wait!

Yelp
Everything I tried here has been super tasty. Definitely come early since the line gets long fast and popular items do get sold out. I love how they have a different menu each month. All the flavor combinations have been very unique and not found in typical bakeries. I have tried many different items in two separate months and I would say my favorites have been the strawberry cream Danish and the Pina colada flavored pastry. They were both decadent. I highly recommend eating the pastries as soon as you get it since that's when the pastries are super flaky and crisp. I also tried one day old pastries since I ordered way too much (everything looked too good). These are still tasty but didn't hit the same way the first day. I like their concept of the changing monthly menu since you can look forward to trying new flavors however it is a bit sad that you can only get your favorites in that one month. This is a great bakery place to try new items!

Yelp
Worth the 20 minute wait! Went there on a Sunday morning when they opened (935am) and already 20ish people in line. I wanted to try everything but landed on the - Lamb Shepherds Pie : sumptuous. Spiced perfectly and loved the mixture of the savory filling with a slightly sweet, flaky pastry. - Rock Road Croissant: my least favorite- just lacked flavor from the marshmallow ghost and the filling somehow fell flat. The pastry dough texture was perfect though. - Black Sesame Taro Croissant: such an awesome flavor from the black sesame, although I think it made it so I couldn't take the taro filling- but that was fine because the black sesame part was so good - Pumpkin Pie: maybe my favorite- the pumpkin mousse was so yummy and then I got to the cinnamony pumpkin jelly type inside? Idk but it all was working so good!

Yelp
Came here off of multiple videos on Instagram and TikTok showing the pastries and knew I had to come. There is limited parking at the front but there's street parking and other lots nearby if you can't find a spot. I would recommend doing an online order since the pop up on Sundays is a really long line. We came at 9:30 and got in the store at 10:20. Be careful since they sell out fast. As for the food, we ordered almost one of everything and was astounded by the quality of each one. There were some items we would've never put together like a savory popcorn croissant that was similar to salted butter but on another level. Our favorites were the pistachio pomegranate croissant and the garlic gruyere croissant but you can't go wrong with anything in there. They change flavors often so I will definitely be back monthly! Can't wait to see the next set of flavors and twists the amazing bakers come up with.

Yelp
One of the best bakeries in San Diego by far. Unique rotating menu items, communicative owners with a great backstory, and always an amazing execution. Flavors are things I would not have thought of: savory herb pastry (like stuffing vibes), black sesame taro, matcha creme brulee, and more.

Yelp
I was skeptical that this was worth the line, but truly the best kouign amanns in San Diego!! I always search for this pastry, and this bakery makes it just perfect. So buttery, flaky, layered, and perfectly sweet. You can also taste and see the vanilla bean they incorporate into the batter. I wish I bought 5 (I only bought 2 to try). It was my first time visiting, so I tried as much as I could. -creamed corn tile with blueberry miso jam: this was such a unique item! I'm not sure how to describe the flavor profile, but it's exactly as the name states like a creamed corn soup. A great balance of sweet, salty, and savory -pistachio cornbread: moist with a light pistachio flavor. This might be my second favorite since it's a subtle little treat -blackberry olive oil cake: this was okay. I found it a little dry -plain croissant: this was pretty good. It's a little on the crispier side though/dry on the top. My favorite part of the croissant is the soft interior layers with some of the crunchy part. This location has a fair amount of parking in the lot and street parking if necessary. I wouldn't worry too much if the line is long. It moves pretty quickly. You can also preorder online.

Yelp
The baked goods selection is unbelievable! Everything we tried was amazingly delicious! It was worth every moment of standing in line to try it. Staff was very friendly! There really isn't much more to say - go get it!

Yelp
One of my absolute favorite bakeries in San Diego!!! They come up with the most creative menus every month. I love all their pastries, especially the savory options, but their black sesame croissant is an all-time fave of mine. Recently, they started doing a Saturday sandwiches and cake slices special (preorder on Hotplate) and I tried the chiffon cake from their guest baker, ibakemistakes - hands down the BEST cake I've ever eaten! Currently they have multiple days and locations for picking up preorders, plus they do pop-ups every Sunday! But in November they'll be popping up 3 days a week!! They're also the sweetest people ever, in case you needed another reason to support their business.

Yelp
BOMB. I'm really happy I finally got around to trying Relic. It's hard to name a favorite, I really don't think you could go wrong here. Also pretty sure their flavors are seasonal anyway. Cashier was super nice. A few tables but their current location isn't really a sit-down spot. I'm into the limited hours/pop-up format, because otherwise I'd be tempted to return for pastries way too often.

Yelp
I ordered my pastries online and got to pick them up fast and easy. I got pretty much one of everything The things that were really good were the herbed kougin amann, the vegetable focaccia, and the taro black sesame croissant. On the croissant I didn't actually taste taro. I thought maybe it was a filling but I guess not ? I got about 10 items and my total was around $50. Not bad pricing wise. I don't think I find myself going back. I wanted to love this place so bad. And I live in La and had been following their Instagram and everything looked so amazing but it just didn't taste as good as it looked

Yelp
I'm honestly shocked at the raving reviews Relic Bageri has received. I saw an Instagram Reel promoting this bakery, so I visited with high expectations, only to be disappointed. I feel like the pastries look a lot better than they taste. However, the presentation is beautiful and the textures of the pastries were spot on. I felt that the flavors were lacking and in some of them, you can barely taste what they are trying to achieve. For example, the yuzu pastry barely had any flavors of yuzu. The chocolate croissant was underwhelmingly plain. The worst of it all was that we spent so much money and we were so excited to try all the delicious looking pastries, only to find mold in one of the pastries! YES MOLD! There was mold in a few pieces of the berries that were on the lavender berry pastry. I wish I took a picture of it, but I was so shocked and I went to the register to have the issue addressed. They did not apologize or seem the slightest bit sorry, but they did replace my pastry. I felt uneasy afterward, inspecting all the other pastries and wondering if they were fresh. I reached out to the business owner, Sam, who told me that most likely the berries were sold to them with mold already. Even so, does the baker not inspect the berries before putting them on the pastry? I wouldn't recommend this bakery as I feel like you can get better quality pastries with less of a line and in a more convenient location. I won't be returning.

Yelp
I found this place from someone posting about it on Facebook and was super happy I found it! They have pop ups on Sundays from 9:30am until sell out and I believe they change their flavors every month. This was my first time coming so i had no idea what to expect. We arrived around 9:36 and waited in line until about 10:15ish. The line gets quite long but there is plenty of street and some lot parking. We ordered the carrot cake, strawberries and chamomile cream, matcha chiffon cake, cardamom, and double pain au chocolat. Everything was delicious. I really loved the carrot cake as that one was a stand out. Everything else is good but I wouldn't go more than 1 visit a month as I'm more interested in their seasonal flavors! Overall, I'll definitely be a monthly customer after this visit. They have plenty of options and if you come early, you'll have more selection as they do sell out fast.

Yelp
TL;DR- be pissed off - that you weren't told of them before. Relic Bageri is far too humble, but their work speaks volumes of the technical skill and immaculate flavor imagination this bakery has. Look forward to a more permanent location. Been following this bakery for quite some time, watching their previous work and seeing their menus each month on Instagram. The concept itself was interesting, and the pickup concept seemed way more relaxed than similar bakeries with exceptionally long lines, disappointment, and "you get what you get" setups. I decided that my schedule had dragged the watching on quite long enough, so I set up for a pickup on a Friday. Arrived and simply stated my name, and I was given a large box with my treasure. It seems that I was in good company as, with just an hour and a half left for pickup, plenty of other boxes were left. Here's the rundown: Tiramisu Danish - incredible stacking of flavors, textures all worked absolutely flawlessly together. Excellent pastry. White chocolate raspberry palmier - a well executed palmier, but not much more than that. Kouign amann - irresistibly airy and topped with a fantastic caramel that accents a pastry often overlooked for being plain. Karanchi chili crisp gougere - excellent size and texture, great spice that sits moderately on the tongue. Good textures all around. Too full to continue but look forward to the others! And to future orders!

Yelp
Relic Bageri is worth the try in SD. I arrived at 9:10 and there was already a line, around 7-8 parties. I went early because I had seen they sold out but they had a lot of extras after the entire line. Verde Sausage Achiote Croissant (4.5/5): Loved it, hot dog bun with a twist. Cardamom Bun (3.5/5): Light cinnamon flavor but the bread was a little hard. Bacon Potato Asparagus Tile (4/5): Nice and savory but a little salty. The flavor is great though. Black & White Sesame/Honey/ Mascarpone Cake (1/5): The honey was super bitter which put a bad taste in my mouth. Was honestly super disappointed in this one because I love sesame. Nutella Croissant (5/5): For my sweet lovers, so delicious! Perfect for kids who love Nutella. They also add peanuts on top. Cherry Thai Basil Parisan Flan (4/5): Wasn't expecting to like this as much as I did but the flavors and texture stood out to me. Huge basil flavor and the cherry went really well with it. Saffron Grapefruit Kouign Amann (1/5): My first time with saffron and it wasn't for me. Super strong flavors though, just my opinion. I'm really glad to have tried Relic knowing how much thought they put into their craft. The staff were all really friendly and I would definitely come back to try their pastries each month if I could.

Yelp
This bakery is 100% worth the wait. They offer pop ups on certain Sundays and by the time they open at 9:30 there's already a long line forming. You can check their instagram page for monthly menus and the pop up schedule. I went both in February and March and both times didn't disappoint. They use a combination of unique flavors in a lot of their pastries that go wonderfully together. Salted caramel kouign amann: The yummiest kouign amann flavour I've tried. A must get, flaky exterior with caramelly, buttery interior. Saffron grapefruit kouign amann: This was good but nowhere near as good as the salted caramel. The grapefruit jam is quite bitter but did go well with the sweet crunchy exterior. Black sesame yuzu croissant: The black sesame added creaminess to the croissant, and the yuzu jelly gave it just the right amount of acidity so each bite wasn't too heavy. Passionfruit, coconut, lychee cream bun: I couldn't really taste the lychee in this one but enjoyed the tropical flavors, good as a dessert. Easter special cinnamon roll: This one exceeded my expectations. The frosting is light and not overly sweet and the cinnamon croissant is crispy and delicious. White chocolate raspberry palmier: Buttery and light.

Yelp
Adding a new photo to reflect the September 2024 menu. My favorite new item was the blueberry cheesecake bun! Clockwise: Croissant, Reese's croissant, vanilla coconut kouign amann, and blueberry cheesecake bun.

Yelp
Baked in a buttery, flakey crust! Lol Relic Bageri is a pop-up pastry business, and you can get all their info on Instagram or their website. On the weekends, they're open on Sundays, BUT do pre-order sales for pick up on Saturdays. You need to follow up with them to see what's on the menu next week because pre-orders sell out pretty quickly. The wait for these pastries was so worth it! They were crispy and flaky. I think my favorites were the Chili Crisp (savory) and Kouign Amann (sweet). -Guava & Cream Cheese Danish ($5.50) -Ham/Cheese/Mustard Seed Pastry ($5.75) -Tiramisu Danish ($6.75) -Kouign Amann ($5.25) -Chili Crisp Croissant ($5.75) My friend told me that Sundays get busy and the line can get really long before the even open, so get there early if you can! Definitely excited to order from them again.

Yelp
Found this place on Instagram and I loved how passionate the owners seemed about what they made. I ordered for their pop-up shop on Saturday and went to pick it up. I tried the egg chili crisp right away and it was sooo good. The bread itself is perfectly flakey and the chili crisp is just the right amount of spice. My second favorite pastry was the tiramisu croissant. It was not too sweet but the flavors were perfect. The Cinammon rolls were also really good and so soft! I definitely recommend all of their sweet pastries. You can tell they put a lot of time and love into their bread. The pastries are quite a bit pricey but it makes sense. Hope they are able to open their own shop one day!

Yelp
I have to actually prevent myself from going here more than once a month. The food is that good. I waited in line for an hour in the sun, and had all my flesh peel off like I was getting tossed into a sauna. But it was worth it. The new flavors monthly are amazing too, although some are a bit TOO whacked out. Go here if you like bread, dessert, sunburns, suntans, grest variety of flavors, and cozy business aesthetic. No bathrooms, which normally would be minus 40 stars, but I can make an exception this time.

Yelp
A great variety of pastries! Everything was very good, nothing was too sweet. The employees were also very nice and helpful

Yelp
I grabbed 4 pastries from one of their pick up locations. I got the potato and cheese croissant, blueberry cheesecake bun, pain au chocolate, the kenafeh pain suisse. They didn't miss or I didn't miss with my choices, all were good let's start their but the potato and cheese was nuts don't get that one unless you want to buy it weekly man that thing is addictive. I almost didn't taste it cause I gave it to my wife she prefers savory items and my main focus was the kenafeh pain suisse that was the next one the viral kenafeh bar has nothing on this the flavors are phenomenal. I look forward to seeing the creations they make next but don't take those too off the menu.

Yelp
The pastries and croissants look so good and so pretty and they taste as good as it looks. The croissants are so so yum and the people there are the sweetest as well!

Yelp
Came across Relic due to Karanchi Chili Oil. I had my eye on the Potato Egg Cheddar Tile with Karanchi Chili Oil, but this item wasn't on the Pop Up menu for this past weekend. Fortunately there was another savory item on the menu that featured Karanchi - the Cream Cheese Croissant. I opted for this croissant and the Sausage Gravy Egg Bun, another savory option. *baker's kiss* Both were delightful and delicious! The croissant crunchy, flakey, and not dry. The egg cooked perfectly on the bun. At the homepage of their website, you'll find the schedule so you can make sure they'll be at their Miramar location on Sunday. The Pop-up menu is usually posted to their IG. I arrived at 9:30am (start of their business hours) and there was already a line wrapping around the corner. Heads up they close at 1p or sellout.

Yelp
Finally got the chance to try Relic Bageri after hearing great things about it the past several months, and it certainly did not disappoint! I love how unique the flavors are and the variety of savory pastries! This time, I tried the black sesame yuzu croissant, ham and cheese croissant, basil garlic bruyere morning bun, and matcha creme brûlée. All were fantastic, but my favorite was surprisingly the ham and cheese croissant, with the perfectly flaky layers and abundance of cheesiness. I got them for pickup and heated them up at home. Can't wait to try more flavors in the future!

Yelp
My review is based on the items I had Ham, cheese, mustard croissant 4.2/5: The croissant was nice and crispy, the cheese was good quality, and the ham was good. I just wasn't a fan of the mustard taste as it didn't go as well as I thought I would have liked. That is personal preference though. Strawberry miso danish 4.8/5: the danish was perfectly crispy, the strawberries were good quality, the miso taste was unique but worked well. The kanfeh pistachio chocolate pain 4.1/5: everything here is perfectly crispy and soft at the same time. I would say the pistachio flavor was good but I think a different flavor/taste of pistachio would make it better. Staff 4.4/5: it was easy to pick up my order. Provided good customer service. Overall top 5 bakeries I've had. Everything is perfectly crispy but soft inside. They were light and airy, I would definitely recommend ordering online or stopping by to pick up any extra goods they have.

Yelp
Absolutely loved relic! I never realized how close It is to my house, will definitely be spending some slow Sunday mornings coming here to try their other goodies. I'm so happy I got the last chocolate chip cookie, It was so beautifully soft inside and honestly although It looked great It tasted even better. Really enjoyed how soft all their doughs are. The sweet ones were a hint too sweet for me, but definitely good for sharing. Focaccia was great as well! can't wait to bring visitors here

Yelp
Finally got to check out this pop up bakery in Miramar. I like that they rotate their menu each month. They are only open at this location on Sundays. They offer pick up orders from Fri-sun from the selected menu. They also sell some pastries at various places like coffee shops. Make sure to check out their website for their calendar and more information. The pop up opens at 9:30am. The line starts forming around 9:15am. If there's something you really want to try I would recommend coming early. They usually sell out before noon. When I left at 10am, the line was wrapped around the building. Each pastry was between $5-7. They offer both savory and sweet pastries. I find myself loving the savory ones more. The croissants were my favorite.
