I was extremely excited to eat here after reading various reviews and write ups. We were warmly greeted upon arrival and promptly sat. Atmosphere was pleasant, upbeat jazzy music playing, bright vintage-ish style with live plants, marble topped partitians and bar, gold and white, natural wood tables, kind of a hipster vibe. We sat in the center with a decent view of the kitchen and all the staff appeared to be enjoying themselves while working diligently, which is always a plus for me. We had 4 courses, including dessert, and non were terribly impressive. Trout tartar was a off to a great start but the yogurt and sauces overpowered the delicate flavor of the fish, which had it just been paired with the citrus and parsley would have been absolutely lovely. Stracciatella was delicious served with endive, pistachio and olive oil, were top notch but the caramelized cipolini put it over the edge, again over powering the rest of the dish. Macaroni had the perfect bite, with bolognese generously sprinkled with a lovely nutty and sharp parmesean. Unfortunately there was so much parmesean it over powered the bolognese. Secondi was the same experience, individual parts well prepared yet too much sauce on one and just too many competeing flavors on the other. The canolli was crispy with candied orange, morelo cherry and pistachio, the filling was a touch too sweet for my personal taste, light and creamy filling was overpowered by a flavor of powdered sugar. It was a theme with every dish - the quality ingredients were there, but they weren't able to shine because there were too many completing flavors and sometimes textures. At some point in our meal we heard the music turn up quite a bit which prompted people to speak louder and it we had a hard time hearing each other speak. I'd like to say I'll be back, but there are just too many other great restaurants in the city.
