Culinary Guide to Getaria, Basque Country’s Must-Visit Coastal Village | Eater

"A parrilla run by Pili Manterola after returning from haute cuisine, offering a warm, boat-like interior with exposed beams and netting and a menu that honors grilling traditions (hake, sole, rodaballo) while incorporating vegetable-forward dishes and refined techniques, including crab-stuffed asparagus and an oxtail and mushroom mille‑feuille." - Rafael Tonon

Absolutely loved this place. The fish was so beautifully cooked and everything burst with flavour. I ordered the octopus with sweet and sour sauce. The octopus was grilled to perfection and the sauce (unlike many that I’ve had before) tasted fresh and tangy and didn’t overpower the fish. It was so good I didn’t want it to end! We also ordered the grilled monkfish for two people - again, beautifully cooked. A little more salad and potatoes (being as it was for two people) would have been nice. For dessert we had the apple tarte tatin with cider ice cream - just WOW!!! Lovely service, ambience good but quite brightly lit (prefer soft lighting in the evening). Would highly recommend this fabulous restaurant.

Went there for a solo dinner and left very full and happy. The restaurant has some kind of authentic / kitsch look. The staff was super friendly and smiley. Ordered a big piece of steak. Very well cooked and tasty. Served with delicious patatoes. Then had arroz con leche for dessert. Was delicious as well. Really had a good time there and I fully recommend stoping there!!

Extensive menu, nice interior but quite grumpy service - also the table beside the door has no privacy with guests coming in and out of the restaurants - it can also get quite cold. Anybody that entered the waiters kept telling them that the restaurant was full - this seemed to be every 2 minutes. Why not put a sign in the door saying “full by reservation” ? Would maybe reduce a lot of stress for staff. Food otherwise decent but not outstanding. Would recommend!

Beautiful restaurant with a simple but delicious menu. The owner very kindly set up a table by the bar for us because the restaurant was full, and we were so glad that she did. We had the squid salad (huge portion!) and the baked king crab to start, followed by a whole monkfish from the grill, and walnut and quince cheesecake for dessert. The Txacoli was particularly good here. Would recommend!

Amazing experience, food, and service. Oscar our server was incredible. An unforgettable experience. The Rodoballo was mouthwatering, the scallops out of this world, and our sirloin (solomillo) was one of the best I’ve had. Thank you!!!

They welcomed us without a reservation. Super cozy place in a sweet coastal area. Delicious seabass and fun staff. They literally grill the food outside in front of the restaurant, so good.

Amazing seafood. We tried their Turbot, so fresh we can really feel the sweetness. Me personally love how they cook their Octopus. And please order kokotxa, hmm superb. A bit pricey but definitely worth it.

The food was average; overall the level of service was below average. The restaurant’s ordinariness far from commensurates with the premium price point.

Yelp
Kale, Nagusia Kalea 34 Getaria Spain Established in 1840! Getaria in Basque Country is a small, charming coastal town. Famous for its grilled seafood. We chose this place because the grill was right outside the front door and everything looked and smelled delicious! Fresh, whole turbot, sea bream, octopus, truly thick cut beef steaks and shrimp were being grilled over a wood fire. Simply seasoned with sea salt, grilled and plated. Nothing was added to hide the freshness of the whole Sea bass I truly enjoyed. I love fish prepared this way-simply and with pride. I wished I had a second stomach so I could have had everything I saw walking by my table! Reservations recommended, or get lucky as a walk in.

Yelp
Must be crazy to have two highly rated Asador just across town square main drag from each other. As Getaria goes, pescado y mariscos a la brasa is the goto. Rodaballo and other things are of equal quality as the other well known Asador, but slightly cheaper as they dont have the same world fame and Michelin star. Delicious is still key!
