The 15 Best Damn Sandwiches in Philly, According to Eater Contributors | Eater Philly

"Nothing compares to the slow-cooked, greasy awesomeness that’s the sausage sandwich at Rocco’s Italian Sausage. The juiciest links — whether sweet or hot — are stuffed in long rolls and topped with sautéed peppers and onions. Eating one of these on a picnic bench is a Philly ritual." - Annemarie Dooling

Rocco's Italian Sausage Review - Northeast Philly - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"Imagine—some people live in a city where a trip to Home Depot doesn’t end with a cheesesteak or sausage. Luckily, we live here, and Rocco’s Italian Sausage is attached to every Home Depot in Philly. You'll see people in line with planks of wood and a chandelier they claim they know how to install. The small, fast-casual trailer serves up cheap portabella, chicken, and jerk cheesesteaks, but our go-to order is the Double Sausage topped with grilled onions and peppers. They put two long sausages (hot or sweet) on a long buttery roll, and it’s a simple and smoky way to stay full while you paint a wall Startling Orange three hours later." - Candis R. McLean

I wish I had started going Rocco’s before leaving the area. I finally made the trip there for a lunch while visiting PA the other day. Obviously the sausage was the draw, but I went with the Rocco’s Combo with spicy and sweet sausage, peppers, onions, cheesesteak meat, American cheese, and ketchup. I also had a side of French fries. The staff was great and made some recommendations. Food came out pretty quick and was hot. I started in the car and it hit the spot. A nice mix of heat from the spicy sausage. I’d be curious to try just a sausage and pepper sandwich and a cheesesteak on its own, too, but you don’t get this kind of combo anywhere else. The fries are lightly battered. Not my usual choice of fry style, but they went along with it well. I’m making this a stop the next time I’m back and also kind of want to try replicating it at home.

Google
Great Italian sausage and other sandwiches in a city known for its cheesesteaks. Or you could do even better by getting both in one sandwich. Great service and convenient takeout spot with plenty of parking.

Italian steak with spicy peppers and pickles is my order. They do it as good as anybody.

Google
This is always where I send people who need cheesesteak recs in Philly 😂 they make Italian sausage on the same grill so the meat soaks up the flavor. It’s flavorful and easy to order. The staff at this location is also super fast, friendly, and attentive. Love it here 🧀

Google
If you are looking for great food, Rocco's Italian Sausage & Cheese Steaks will do the job! Since I no longer eat beef and/or pork, I travel far & wide to find a great chicken cheese steak. And theirs is really good, if not the best! I usually order the garlic, chicken cheese steak with provolone cheese, onions & peppers. It makes my mouth water just thinking about it :-) So, if you are looking for some great food, I suggest you go there ASAP. You will not be disappointed.

Yelp
Came here before some random home depot shopping for things I didn't need but wanted. Ordered a sausage, egg and cheese sandwich that came with home fries and a soda. Pretty sweet deal for $9. The sandwich was pretty good; soft bread, flavorful sausage, and good eggs. The home fries with green peppers and onions were also good. Literally the only thing missing from both items was salt. I definitely want to try the cheese steak here because I hear its pretty darn good.

Yelp
This was quite possibly the best cheesesteak I've ever had. And living in this area, you get a lot of great cheesesteaks. Husband got the sausage & peppers - 1/2 sweet & 1/2 hot. It was outstanding. Bread can make or break a sandwich for me and their seeded roll was fantastic - flavorful and soft. Next time I'm going to try the Rocco's special - sausage and cheesesteak together. Was going to take pics but it smelled too good when I unwrapped it, so I couldn't wait the extra 2 seconds to do it You wouldn't think the best cheesesteak in the city is at a Home Depot, but it is. You're welcome

Yelp
Being a suburbanite, but well traveled in Philly, I sometimes grow weary of finding a spot along roads in South Philly. On this particular day, I kept striking out finding a free space, so I decided to check these guys out. There are parking spaces as far as the eye can see at this Home Depot. They are cash only. I asked a couple of guys waiting for their food what's good and they replied the sausage never fails. Enough said, I went with a hot sausage sandwich. The rolls are from Conshohocken Italian Bakery. I think I spent around $10 with a water and small bag of Herr's chips. Although a small establishment, I could see a couple of guys inside cooking on the flat top. They were quick with my order and I decided to enjoy my sandwich sitting at one of several tables provided along side their building. The sausage had nice heat to it, a nice crack when you bit into it and the onions and peppers provided nice balance. I asked for a side of spicy mustard for an occasional dip and the bread was fresh and held together well. I was a fan of the sandwich and experience. If you get here on a decent weather day you're provided with a nice view of the Center City skyline. I would repeat.

Yelp
A must stop when visiting either my EV charge station or the Home Depot on Oregon ave. I have gained an immense appreciation for their portabella mushroom hoagie, the staff's always pleasant greeting with just the right amount of flavor and at just the right price of $11 for a bag of chips and a soda. Highly recommend this place and I am somewhat excited about their move into their newly built building next door. I do wish they would add more ingredients (lettuce, tomatoes, pickles...) but maybe that too will arrive with a new building. One can only hope!

Yelp
Got a Rocco's Special! All I have to say is this was amazing! Spicy and delicious! I'm glad it's far from me an I only get it when I'm around that way. Because I would eat here every day! The guys there are cool and professional. We sat outside and ate at the tables they have right next to the shop. It was a cool day but perfect to enjoy our food!

Yelp
This is a fantastic find! We circled the home Depot 3 times and finally found it. Great service and definitely the roccos special is the way to go.

Yelp
4.2 is way too low for this place! The epitome of a hidden gem. We were so confused when google maps took us to the Home Depot parking lot. We stumbled in, perhaps looking a bit confused, and the staff were so kind. Right away they offered us a sample of their sausages and made recommendations. My husband and I shared the Rocco Special and the Cajun Chicken. Delicious. I even asked if they'd put the peppers and onions on the side (I like them, husband can't eat them) and the staff filled a huge cup without hesitation. Next time, we'll add mayo - but so delicious already on its own.

Yelp
Rocco's is conveniently located outside of the Home Depot. I tried a jerk chicken sandwich ($8.50 for regular size), plus I added provolone cheese and portobello mushrooms ($10 total). The sandwich was not bad in general. Unfortunately, the chicken itself was a bit dry/over cooked in texture. the jerk flavor was pretty strong and spicy which I liked. There weren't many mushrooms so I wouldn't bother paying $1 to get those next time. If you're at the Home Depot and desperately hungry, this is a reasonable option. Note: they accept Cash only

Yelp
this hidden gem is great for when you want something quick! the cheesesteaks are great. sometimes i get their breakfast too but mainly cheesesteaks. there's never usually a line & it's convenient bc there's a huge parking lot- home depot.

Yelp
Hubs ran an errand to Home Depot in the midst of some re-decorating and stopped at Rocco's Food Truck located just at the entrance. (This is the beauty of South Philly right here!!). He surprised me and brought back one of the most delicious sammies for us to split! It was a huge shredded portobello "cheesesteak" with grilled peppers. It was tender and so flavorful! He chose teriyaki, but honey garlic, jerk, bbq and Parmesan were other flavors they offer. The $8 cash only sammy was packed and big enough for both of us to split and be completely satisfied for hours. He is not plant based like I am but was fond of, and filled by these "meaty" sandwiches. We'll definitely be stopping by again! So happy to find this hidden gem and tell other vegans and vegetarians in the neighborhood the good news. They offer sausage and grilled chicken also.

Yelp
I know that this Rocco's is like a franchise I'm the original I brought it up to the owner of the original Rocco's that the sandwiches at Oregon Avenue are not up to par the roll or potato roll hot dog roll is always seems to be stale the sandwich smaller than the roll the sausages, can get same sandwich the roll is not stale, the sausage actually taste better It could be the grill but I brought it up to him I told him to check it out because that gives his name a bad name the guys at the Rocco's on Oregon Avenue are very professional they're there to help you very good salesman but the product is not the same. That's the only reason why I gave him two stars
