My friend and I came in around 6:30 on a Saturday night. This was my first time ever visiting a rock n sake location! We were quickly greeted by a hostess and were told to sit anywhere we'd like, so we chose a window table. Our server took a minute to get to us, but he was super friendly and had some good vibes going on.
We ordered the samurai margarita and the berry blossom for drinks, then placed appetizer orders for the calamari, tuna nachos, and simple and spicy hamachi. My friend didn't like the margarita too much, but I didn't mind the jalapeño taste, so we traded although I wouldn't order it again. The calamari came out in no time. It was perfectly battered and fried just right! The simple and spicy hamachi was good; the cuts were huge, but the ponzu sauce could definitely use some work as it still tasted very close to soy sauce. The tuna nachos were simple but amazing, especially if you love spicy!
For the main course, we ordered the bigger sashimi entrée which comes with two sides (we chose the grilled asparagus and chicken rice), the garlic salmon roll, and the salmon zest roll. The rolls came out first, with our sashimi entrée sides and our requested side sauces, ponzu and yuzu. I have to say that I wasn't a huge fan of the yuzu either - it was straight up sour, with not much other flavor to it. The chicken rice wasn't too great, but the asparagus was amazing! It had a kick to it, yummy. Our sashimi entrée took a while to come out since it started getting busy, but it was so worth the wait. There was tuna, mackerel, whitefish, octopus, salmon, yellowtail, and kampachi accompanied with a few edible garnishes. We both loved the kampachi, but the mackerel was probably our least favorite on the spread.
Overall, I had a really good experience. The vibe was very upbeat with loud music and the clientele were all adults with no children in sight. The quality of the fish was very good, and the service was pretty good. We walked here from my friend's place, but if you're driving, nearby parking may be tough to find. My one and only thing is that the sauces need some tweaking. Other than that, Rock n Sake knows what's up.
