"Rockman Coffee + Bakeshop is the kind of trendy bakery you’d expect to find in a big coastal city with (more) expensive rent, where people happily line up for the opportunity to see how flaky a croissant can get. Inside, it’s bright and charming, with a giant glass case showing off the day’s offerings—usually a few sweet and savory pastries, sourdough chocolate chip cookies, kouign-amann with crisp and buttery edges, and rip-and-dip bagels you'll want to turn into a weekly habit. There’s sometimes a short line at this East Austin spot, but it moves fast. Grab a latte and more pastries than you need—tomorrow you will be grateful." - nicolai mccrary

"The bagels at Rockman Coffee taste less like a traditional bagel and more akin to a personal loaf of light, fluffy sourdough bread that just happens to have a tiny hole in the center. The crust is thick and chewy, but once you break through that carbohydrate barrier, you’ll find an airy, cavernous center that pairs especially well with Rockman’s french onion dip schmear. While you’re here, also stock up on some flaky croissants and kouign-amann pastries." - nicolai mccrary
"This East Side bakery specializes in croissants (sample filling: chocolate fudge churro), bagels, cookies, and (obviously) coffee. It’s located on East Cesar Chavez, near Juan in a Million and Kemuri Tatsu-Ya." - nicolai mccrary, matthew jacobs
"Austin’s bakery scene is a better place now that chef Amanda Rockman finally opened her own spot in mid-October in the Holly neighborhood. There are so many wonderful croissants, both sweet (apple-almond, chocolate fudge) and savory (ham-cheese-mustard, everything bagel), alongside rip-and-dip bagels and schmears and other pastries. Expect lines on the weekends. Takeout orders can be placed in person; there are indoor dine-in areas." - Brittany Britto Garley, Nadia Chaudhury
