Slow-smoked barbecue, plus tacos & sandwiches on offer in this snug & popular window-serve spot.
"You can (and should) show up to Rollin Smoke and get the classic staples—like brisket, ribs, and sausage. But it’s when they start to experiment a little and introduce some low-and-slow smoke flavor into otherwise familiar dishes that we’ll consider making a detour, especially for the smoked carne guisada burritos and al pastor tacos. Rollin Smoke is located in the Arbor Food Park in East Austin, right next to Cuantas Hamburguesas and Cuantos Tacos, making this one of the strongest 20-yard lineups in the food-trailer scene. And the best part is that while most barbecue joints in Austin close up long before dinner, Rollin Smoke is open late, in case you want to soak up some drinks with a pile of brisket or just find yourself with a craving after dark. Food Rundown photo credit: Nicolai McCrary Brisket This is a classic Central Texas-style brisket in which the bark is thick, the meat is tender, and there’s plenty of smoke penetration. photo credit: Nicolai McCrary Al Pastor Tacos These are a Sunday special that you should order if you see (but double check on Instagram to confirm before you go). They’re tiny, but each one is packed full of marinated and smoked pork (cooked on a trompo), with melted cheese, pineapple, and salsa. Then the whole thing gets crisped up on a griddle." - Nicolai McCrary
"Rollin Smoke, which recently moved to Arbor Food Park, is a legendary food truck, even in Austin—the city that introduced the world to food trucks. It is often referred to as the David in this city of meaty Goliaths. We all know how that first fight went, and this popular, peppy truck can hold its own against giants like Franklin and La Barbecue. The food is fantastic quality and almost criminally underpriced for its excellence. If you're unsure what to order (or having trouble reading the menu after a bar crawl on Sixth), then reach straight for the MVP: the Playboy Sandwich. A quarter pound of brisket topped with a quarter pound of pulled pork, topped with a half-link of jalapeno cheddar pork sausage, it ticks every important barbecue box." - Jonathan Thompson
"Rollin’ Smoke BBQ has moved to Central East Austin’s Arbor Food Park at 1108 East 12th Street. The truck opened in the new location today, Wednesday June 1. The truck will serve its same menu of smoked meats, mac and cheese, banana pudding, and more. Arbor Food Park recently had a spot open due to the closure of Dough Boys pizza truck but is still home to a variety of trucks including popular taco truck Cuantos Tacos." - Erin Russell
