The Bar At The Hewing Hotel Review - North Loop - Minneapolis - The Infatuation

"So you want to get a drink somewhere that makes you feel a little fancy. Maybe you’re kicking off a bachelorette party or just got your first corporate card or you’re simply staying upstairs and want a good cocktail. The bar at the Hewing Hotel in the North Loop is where you should go. This Nordic-inspired hotel is one of the most beautiful places in Minneapolis to drink at and they have lots of great cocktails to choose from. There’s a pool table, a roaring fire, and a lounge area that will undoubtedly make you think of “leather-bound books and rich mahogany.” It’s not somewhere we go often and you’ll pay a lot for drinks, but after your first one, you’ll be too busy wishing you lived at the Hewing to care." - Kyle Meehan

Absolutely loved it. The wait staff are fabulous, smart, and kind. The atmosphere is spectacular. And the view is amazing. Just be aware that if you sit by the A/C motor outside, you will get an interesting (I feel is uncomfortable, vibration). The sliders are delightfully delicious 😋

The rooftop bar in Minneapolis is an absolute gem. The view was breathtaking, offering a stunning panorama of the city skyline. The atmosphere was vibrant yet relaxed, perfect for unwinding with a drink on summer afternoons and evenings. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, adding to the overall pleasant experience. The bar itself was stylish and well-maintained, with comfortable seating arrangements that allowed us to fully enjoy the surroundings. The drink selection was excellent, featuring a variety of craft cocktails and local brews that catered to every taste. Overall, it’s an ideal spot for a casual drink with friends or a romantic evening under the stars. Highly recommended!

This review is based solely on the rooftop experience during a music event. Not good, unless you are a guest of the hotel, lounging poolside with one of the huge chaise lounge chairs opened flat taking up maximum space where at least three normal chairs would be for those (also paying) to see the show. Much more attention could be paid to maximizing the seating situation on concert nights to improve the experience. Not everyone can get there hours early, nor should they have to. Anyone who paid for a ticket should not have to stand up for two hours. The whole thing can be laid out better. To maximize seating, everyone being able to see the show, everyone who paid for a ticket getting a seat, and increased service staffing. Make it feel important to you that everyone has a good experience so people want to come back, and to recommend the experience (and the hotel) to others. That’s what customer service excellence looks like.

Meh, my friends and I thought the view was just alright. We were kinda underwhelmed by it. Worth a visit I guess for the experience but I'd have much rather stayed in the lobby/lounge on the first floor of the hotel. The vibes there were nicer and more space to sit. We went on a Saturday night around 11pm & it wasn't too packed which was nice. A mock tail for $14 was pretty crazy, esp if you compare that to an actual cocktail for $16. The bartenders were nice.

Great spot for a cocktail. Asked for a few cocktails not on the menu and the bartender was happy to make them. Good service and everyone here was very nice.

Love love the views from this rooftop bar- prob the best in the cities but it is very small so hard to actually get seats unless you go super early Service is slow here-but drinks were fine but way overpriced- basically you are paying for the view Great spot for date night or friends night out

Aesthetics was giving! The ambience was unmatched. Food is 4/5, but the vibes is 6/5! I’ll be back! I love it’s not crowded and busy but definitely somewhere you can chat still enjoy the music

Google
Beautiful place to get a cocktail and watch the overlook of the city. The bar setting is great downstairs, but ask a staff member to take you to the top level bar. This place was a great highlight of the eloquent architecture found downtown Minneapolis.

Yelp
Great Minneapolis skyline views! Similar to the other reviews, Hewing has overpriced drinks and a small rooftop. I didn't even bother driving here as I knew parking would be difficult so I can't speak towards that. When you arrive, you will need to find a bellman/woman to use a key that will allow you to take the elevator. Lots of fun choices and great ambiance.

Yelp
The drink that I got was good. It was a Boba base drink. Sadly, the area was pretty packed so I wasn't even able to step outside to enjoy the view. I was recommended to come check out this place when I went to a different bar earlier. Being from out of state, I wanted to get the opinion of some locals. I will say the vibes of the people around me were just not my type. Doesn't mean that it was bad, but I simply did feel like I was out of place. However, the bartenders were all super sweet, and the quality of the drink was worth it.

Yelp
This was a place I wanted to have an upscale cocktail on a nice summer day overlooking downtown Minneapolis. The bar in the lobby was very nice as I walked in. The front desk has override the elevator so stop there first to get to the roof top bar. The rooftop bar is very nice with lots of windows and many different cozy seating spaces. I would do the old fashioned and sit outside taking in the view of the city. My bartender was very friendlier and said that the old fashioned is there signature drink. This was a nice place to relax before dinner.

Yelp
DRINKS: Our drinks were great and it definitely gave off the 'classy' vibe I was expecting! A great spot to bring visitors to see the city! SERVICE: Very friendly + efficient staff! AMBIANCE: I have been told that I need to check out Hewing's rooftop for a long time, and the views definitely didn't disappoint! However it was much smaller than I expected, so there wasn't too many seats/standing areas available.

Yelp
Fancy speakeasy prices for diver bar quality and service!!! The menu is well curated but drinks are not executed accordingly. The bartender splashed both of the drinks and despite knowing it happened didn't offer a napkin and just left. Glasses were sticky when handed to us :) maybe we had a one off experience but $22 a drink, they can and should do better!!

Yelp
First I wanna tell you guys, we came to This rooftop initially because we saw on Google that it had great views of downtown Minneapolis. We had a very hard time trying to get some good pictures with the beautiful downtown buildings, this city really lacks places where tourists or even locals can really take in the views of their modern downtown. We we were so happy to find this gem. Parking was quick and easy next to the hotel. Just Take the elevators up and you'll be at the rooftop in no time. There was a hilarious vending machine on our way to the bar that we encountered and we had to make a video with it. It featured items like the "adult sleepover kit", a "color changing mushroom night light", "fortune telling dice" and so much more. On our way inside the rooftop we got this very upscale hipster / trendy rooftop bar vibes. They definitely did a good job setting up the ambiance because wow, the view of downtown couldn't have been better. I really only have one piece of advice for the business owner: expand the seating area. While the hotel guests are sun bathing and there's empty tables and chairs galore, you've given them 2/3 of the square feet and most of your customers are not actually patrons of the hotel. I suggest allowing that area for all customers of the bar to use. If it's not possible to do that then maybe have a drink minimum or advance reservation required for rooftop access. I saw many people who were just slumming it up there and barely drinking at all. I saw one couple taking up a table meant for 5 while everyone else is walking around aimlessly looking for a place to chill by the view. I'm not too surprised to see most people rated this rooftop bar a 1, 2, or 3 star. I understand why though, the negatives definitely took a star and a half off for me too, but I rounded up to 4 stars rather than 3 because Minneapolis simply needs more places like this. The ambiance of the place really kills it and I appreciate having had the opportunity to go somewhere and have this beautiful view and drinks. Pro tip: don't come during peak hours unless you want to stand up the whole time

Yelp
Absolutely beautiful backdrop with the city in view. Excellent for sunset pictures. It is busy on a weekend night and limited tables outside so you may need to stand. There is an indoor lounge as well as upstairs bathrooms so you do not have to leave the rooftop. It is 21+ only so keep that in mind if you are staying at the hotel with children. Drinks are good, good variety of unique cocktails but the bartenders are versed to make usual drink requests as well. Only negative is that there should likely be more bartenders on a weekend night. There was quite a line with only 2 bartenders. One server was bringing drinks to tables could not really assisted at the bar, and that server was quite overworked as well.

Yelp
We unfortunately didn't have a great experience here after being excited to try it out on my birthday. It's a gorgeous location, view, and bar area. There are only a few tables on the exterior, though, to get the skyline view. We got there at 5:15 and were pushed out of the way by another group to get the last table. We waited 2 hours on the couch inside and not a single table left during that time. They're not seated by staff, so many other groups that arrived after us were also walking around trying to find any tables opening up. It made it very stressful and would have been much better if seating was first come first serve. I tried the spritz and it was a good cocktail. The bartender was nice but other servers went up to everyone except for us at other tables/couches for drink orders. Overall, not really worth trying unless you get there right when they open at 5pm if you want skyline views.

Yelp
I have been wanting to stop by here for a while now, and glad I did. First of all you need to check in with the front desk to get keyed up to the rooftop via elevator. Once upstairs you can either sit at the bar or the patio area. I went on a Sunday late afternoon, and it was not busy. I was able to sit on the patio and enjoy the views on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. I had 2 drinks and both were decent, one better than the other. My friend had an espresso Martini that was good (and not on the menu). Not much for eats here, but they do have a small menu. I would recommend eating before or after you stop here. The ambiance and vibe were pretty awesome on the patio, but it's a lot smaller space than I had imagined. I wonder how packed it gets on the weekend. Lastly they do have a hot tub on the rooftop for hotel staying guests, and it definitely makes me want to book a room and enjoy drinks in there! I would stop back in for a drink again.

Yelp
OVERALL: Ugh. I want to love this place so badly but it's just continually missed on service each time I've been recently. ATMOSPHERE: Obviously, being on a rooftop in the heart of north loop is amazing. It's a stunning view (if you can get a seat outside!) SERVICE: It's taken over a half hour to get a drink here consistently. The servers seldom check in with you. Everything is slow so don't expect to just grab a quick drink. DRINKS/FOOD: The burger is tasty and the drinks are pretty normal drinks. PRICES: Drinks run you about $15 each

Yelp
Visiting from the East Coast and this roof top bar came highly recommended. I ordered an espresso martini and it was delicious! We went during the week. Not sure if you need to be staying at the hotel but an employee was kind enough to scan his key tag on the elevator to let us go. If you're looking for a low key quaint place to enjoy a few cocktails this is it!

Yelp
Terrific space, lovely views, but food and drinks are rather scant and weak respectively, for the price. Patio would be greatly improved with umbrellas or a retractable awning, on sunny (or rainy) days.

Yelp
The drinks weren't great, but the people watching here is fantastic. I'll definitely be back here on future visits, mainly to get a beer (instead of the cocktails, which were way too sweet) and get a view of town and the great outfits on display.

Yelp
Overall: Cool small space, weak drinks. Pros: - a great rooftop space that feels fancy and a fun place to chill - plenty of great drink options - Loop juice tasted very yummy (would get again) Cons: - drinks are pretty expensive 15$ for having nearly no alcohol. I drank a drink very quickly here and felt literally nothing. Got a second one and still felt nothing (but they did taste good) and as someone who rarely has alcohol this was odd. - staff very busy and only come back to your table once every 30ish minutes - place becomes packed very quickly and turns from a sit down place to a herd of humans

Yelp
We came here for a concert on Sunday evening. The band was great, however the venue, food, and drinks left much to be desired. Concert said standing room only, however there ended up being a ton of chairs and loungers, which left little space for standing without blocking someone's view. The food menu was very small and odd, and the 2 items that we decided to order were not good. The drinks were about $15 each, but had very little alcohol and were very small. We'd love to see the band again at a different venue.
