"Since opening in the winter of 2016, I've known the Hewing Hotel's rooftop to be exclusive to guests aside from a few public glimpses; beginning August 1 the hotel will open it to the public so people can take in North Loop neighborhood views and enjoy summery beverages. The opening drink menu includes cocktails such as a gin-spiked frosé and a tropical rum drink made with coconut water, while food will be limited to bar snacks, and the patio will be open seven days a week after August 1 from 11 am to midnight. The restaurant and bar downstairs have had a wild ride — from a highly anticipated opening and the original chef leaving the state to less-than-stellar reviews — yet the bar has become a see-and-be-seen destination in the buzzy neighborhood, and opening the rooftop extends that popular space upstairs and outside during the final month of 2018’s summer. The menu will be greatly influenced by a wood-burning grill and oven with hearty vegetables and sharable fish or meat dishes, and game and other offal are an integral part of the rotating, market-driven off-cuts and nightly offerings." - Joy Summers
