How Plastic Straw Bans Have Changed Peoples’ Lives | Eater

"A regular neighborhood coffee shop where metal straws were displayed in a cup at the counter, prompting an impulsive purchase of a straw for $1.50 (and a small cleaner for $0.50). The buyer keeps the straw in a Ziploc in her purse and uses it in a variety of settings — cafés, bars, farmer’s markets — enjoying the look and convenience of drinking from a bottle-jar with the metal straw. She usually brings a reusable cup as well, hasn’t gotten much comment from others, and finds remembering the straw is the main hurdle to using it consistently." - Daniela Galarza

A Millcreek favorite with a community vibe, big portions, and house‑baked breads. Spotlighted by Utah Stories and City Cast Salt Lake, it’s beloved for huevos rancheros, Benedicts, and fresh‑pressed juices.

This place is a GEM!! The Lemon & Mint Ricotta Pancake was incredible!! (If you are lucky enough to be there on a day this is the pancake of the day - do not miss out!!) Service was so friendly and it’s a great vibe all around! If there’s a wait check out the adorable thrift store next door!

Google
this is the best breakfast in Utah... and believe me, i KNOW good breakfast. the seasonal pancake never disappoints. the breakfast burrito is texturally divine and so delicious. the vegetarian sausage is wonderful and would probably fool meat eaters everywhere. 10/10 everything. and the patio is lovely!

Google
Love the atmosphere and customer service but most of all the food! You have a choice of eating in or dining g out. And while you wait they have the cutest boutique store next door the pink flamingo . Our waiter Cody was fantastic… p.s if you wanna treat him, he loves their lemon bars!

Google
Super super cute place. The dirt burger with vegan patty is sooooo good. It’s a big portion so me and my friend split it. The staff are great! The antique store next door is super cute too so definitely check it out.

Roots is a fun little Cafe with a cool vibe. Parking is limited but we were still able to find a spot. We sat inside and it was really loud and small. We weren't able to talk much cuz we couldn't hear each other across the table . Our waitress was nice. She was fast with water and drinks and taking our order. The food was hit and miss. m I got the Eggs Benni and it were pretty raw ( the white part, I'm totally down with a runny yolk), the potatoes seemed burnt or extremely overly cooked. My friend got the Roots Huevos Rancheritos and they looked delicious and she loved it. The pressed juice was good. Overall, sit outside if it's possible. I'd probably go back here but request the eggs be cooked a little bit more. (From reading reviews this is a common problem).

Google
It was all around an OK spot. Pros: Creative menu with healthy eating options, friendly staff, fun vibes. Cons: Smaller portion sizes, weak execution on ambitious flavors, and slow service (15 min to be seated, 15 min to place an order, and 20-30 minutes for the food to come out) during rush brunch hour on a weekday. I don't think we'd come again.

Google
Food is DELICIOUS. Customer service is spot on, and the wait is worth it! We got to see Post Malone (aka Cody Himself) and it was just so fun too. Their baked goods are up front and so delicious and gluten free. Don't leave without one!!!

Google
I can see what the fuss is all about. The food was really good and Becca (our server) was on top of her game for our big party of 8 (including 4 small kids). The outdoor seating was also quite sufficient. Would come back if I could.

Yelp
great food, good service, relaxed atmosphere. both times we've we've been have been enjoyable, will return!

Yelp
What a great place to go for brunch! We came here on a Friday morning and got seated in about 10 minutes on the patio. If you get here when there's more of a wait, you can always stroll through The Old Flamingo - a vintage and antiques shop - which is in the same building. The Southerner omelet was very tasty, though fair warning that the house-made ranchero sauce was a bit spicy. The star of the show was the blackened potatoes.
google avatar

Yelp
We absolutely love Roots. As busy as they are, they seem to seat you quickly. They have a wait list over the phone, very helpful. Breakfast and lunch are delightful. The potatoes with breakfast are real red skin potatoes, fried perfectly. Eggs to order. My wife had a pesto omelette she enjoyed. They have all the juices and juice concoctions. Buckwheat pancakes are wonderful! The build is in a lovely pastorale setting, trees and shrubs bring lots of oxygen to those seated on the lightly covered patio. I can't recommend Roots Cafe highly enough

Yelp
Roots is yummy! I had the breakfast sandwich, it was tasty, and full of flavor. The potatoes were delicious as well. The bacon was thick and crisp just the way I like it. The patio is awesome, shady, and relaxing. Our server was really nice and patient. He was helpful and seemed genuine, and in a good mood. He kept the water filled, and was on top of everything. They also have good pancakes! Most restaurant pancakes are subpar but these had flavor, and goodness. I'm excited to come back and try more stuff!

Yelp
The food here is great, the server was had (Cody) was a dope guy to talk to, and the ambiance is cute. The only thing that could be improved was the amount of hornets that were buzzing around in the outdoor seating. They kept trying to land on our food and flew around our faces. I just wish there was more preventative actions taken to keep the hornets away.

Yelp
I can't believe that I haven't ever reviewed this local restaurant a mile from my home. It is popular and there is often a wait, since they don't take reservations. But luckily, the cute Old Flamingo consignment store is right there to pass the time. The food and service at this breakfast and lunch spot is consistently terrific. The menu has the favorites done right and a few unique options. Pancakes and breakfast potatoes are a good test of the kitchen's ability and they nail them both. I enjoy the egg tacos. If you're in the mood for lunch, the salads are a good choice. Everyone working there was helpful and kind. We spilled a water at our table and several of the staff came to help clean it up, with no attitude or complaints. With inside and outside dining, this is the perfect place to enjoy a delicious meal with friends or family.

Yelp
Came on a Sunday afternoon around 12pm. Took about 30-40 min to get called. Not bad. We spent most of that time looking around in the Flamingo antique shop next door. The food was good. I ordered the Southerner omelette. Nice flavor. Not spicy at all, even with the jalapeños. I ordered the Bloody Good drink which contains beet juice, OJ and some other juices. Really good and refreshing. It was room temp, wish it was more chilled. The thing that kind of got me was the waiting area. It's connected to the hallway leading to the restrooms. The waiting area smelled like the restroom. I couldn't get that smell outta my sinuses while I ate. Other than that the place is nice.
google avatar

Yelp
Walked in on a Sunday afternoon and it was about a 45 min wait. There is a like a little antique store connected, you can go waste time! It was pretty busy and people kept coming in We got seated and I ordered a cafe au lait and was perfect IMO. First time having coffee at a restaurant that was good! My husband ordered a juice and it was delicious. I ordered breakfast burrito because it sounded good and I regretted not getting a pancake. My burrito was good. I loved the veggies My husband had an omlet and I also liked their house potato's Definitely would like to come back to try their pancakes! Staff was nice. They have a tight parking area.
google avatar

Yelp
Perfect little spot to stop in for breakfast. There's I door seating and an outdoor covered area with space heaters, I didn't notice much of a difference temperature wise. Standard breakfast options including plain and specialty pancakes. Food came out pretty quickly on a Sunday morning. Break pudding French toast is pretty filling, I wasn't able to finish It all but def no regrets on buying. Pricing is fair. Would come back

Yelp
As far as I can tell, this place usually has a waitlist, but we were seated relatively quickly, in about 15 minutes! There's a very charming outdoor area in the shade that was perfect for a day in October. The hardest part was choosing something from the menu. There were so many items that looked bespoke and made with care. This isn't one of those places with the same 10 omelet variations you've seen at a dozen other breakfast spots. I went with the Peeto Breakfast Sandwich. Breakfast sandwiches aren't usually my move but the ingredients looked so compelling that I couldn't resist! It was hearty AF and was exactly what I needed to power me up to the highest point in Utah later that day!

Yelp
Fantastic brunch spot ! Had a 1 hr wait on a Sunday, and it was worthwhile. Most spots around the area for a good brunch on the weekends tend to have a similar wait time. You can browse around The Flamingo Antique shop while waiting to be seated. Eggs Benedict is great! You really can't go wrong with any of their pancakes. Ambiance is cozy ! Service was great and our waitress was very attentive.

Yelp
Roots Café in Millcreek combines wonderful food, a cozy, Bohemian atmosphere, and truly outstanding service. We visited for breakfast, and even though it was packed, the staff was attentive, warm, and made us feel right at home. There was a bit of a wait since we arrived after 10 a.m., but browsing the charming antique store next door made it fly by. For our meal, we started with the Spicy Peeto Sandwich, which was delicious with its vibrant flavors, though it wasn't as spicy as the name suggests--just enough heat to keep things interesting! Next, we had the Polenta Eggs Benedict with Salmon & Sautéed Spinach, which was truly fantastic. The creamy polenta, paired with perfectly poached eggs and fresh spinach, made for a memorable twist on a classic Benedict. Our kid enjoyed a simple breakfast of an egg, bacon strip, and pancake--an uncomplicated but well-prepared option for little ones. The coffee was smooth and delicious, adding to our overall great experience. Despite how busy it was, the service was outstanding--attentive and friendly without missing a beat. Roots Café makes you feel right at home, even when packed. Roots Café has left a lasting impression for its delicious food, welcoming atmosphere, and exceptional service. This is a place we'll be returning to often!

Yelp
Roots Cafe is a local's staple for a reason. It's so charming and has a cozy ambiance that makes you want to stay for hours. It's so nice to sit on the patio in the summertime! Roots Cafe seasons their breakfast potatoes so well that they could serve them as their own main entree. They're delicious! The breakfast sandwich was good but nothing spectacular. (Usually I order the pancake of the day but decided to branch out.) This place is very popular so it can be a bit of a wait depending on what time you show up and if the patio seating area is open. But trust me, it's worth the wait!
google avatar

Tim D.

Yelp
This a a great spot to stop for a nice casual lunch/brunch. It is a real relaxed atmosphere and we were able to sit on the covered patio outside on a beautiful day. Our waiter was very personable, the food was delicious and they had some cool different options for drinks. My family got the burger, pancake and turkey/bacon/avocado wrap and all said they were really good (the pancakes were some of the lightest I've ever tasted). I got Ramiro's tacos which were fantastic. We will be back for sure!!!
google avatar

Loren H.

Yelp
The food is not usual breakfast and lunch but it is tasty, different, lovely. I enjoyed the light, airy, simi sweet warm berry sauce crepe. The Biscuit and gravy was good. I didn't eat the gravy due to the spicy level. But the biscuits were soft and tasty and slightly crusty on the out side.
google avatar

Kristy M.

Yelp
Absolutely consistently delicious food at Roots Cafe. They do get busy, especially on the weekends, so plan ahead for a wait or enjoy the wait by looking around at the Old Flamingo next door. It can also be a bit noisy inside, but the yurt or patio are both nice outdoor options, depending on the weather. They have some excellent vegan and vegetarian options and takeout is available by ordering online.

Yelp
I'm a regular turned into I will probably never come here again. The last few times have not been memorable, and this one put me over. We came around 1:30, got seated and then sat and waited forever to be acknowledged. Took forever for water and for our waitress to take our order, and to get our food. Me and my son ordered breakfast, he got the Benedict, and I got the Roots breakfast, with smoked salmon, poached eggs, and I asked for tortillas instead of toast. What I got was one measly slice of salmon, hardly any potatoes, and ONE smallest street style tortilla. I paid $20 for this!! When I asked the waitress for a little more potatoes and one more tortilla she looked disgusted with me. I'm sorry, but I want my moneys worth. My son's Benedict was great, and he got ample potatoes. My husband and other son got burgers. Both over cooked, and not good. Don't get the burgers. If you have a great experience here, I'm happy for you, but this one ruined it for me.

Yelp
Love the ambiance, nice, cozy, relaxing and always packed. Service could be a little myth, and there's always a line, so, be prepared. (A long line means good food, right?) The Roots Huevos rancheros is very saucy, strong flavors, and hearty dish. The salsa for the breakfast burritos are so good that we wish there's a jar we can purchase.
google avatar

Annie H.

Yelp
The dining here is marketed as fresh and locally sourced. This is what I showed up for. I was disappointed in the flavor profiles though. What I think is great about fresh local foods is the bright, fresh flavors. I believe Roots fell short of my expectations in this respect. The flavor profile of everything we tried was very mild. I drive by here most everyday and they are busy so perhaps I am alone in my opinion and that is ok. I would like to mention that my companion asked for some modifications. He is fighting a terminal illness and the medications change his sense of taste and what he can eat without tearing up his mouth. She was 100% unwilling to make accommodations for him. I understand that often a chef wants their items tasted as a complete dish. However, In this instance, we usually get chefs willing to make accommodations and are often excited about the challenge.

Yelp
I found myself with a very grumbly tummy at the end of a Buddhist service this past Sunday and was eager to find brunch. Luckily, Roots Café was right there, ready to take care of me. Even though I was a party of one, there was a 30 minute wait. No biggie, I browsed The Old Flamingo next store and nearly forgot about the hanger pains. The café dining area is compact, but it's at least doubled when the weather cooperates and the patio is open. I ended up seated indoors, but the patio looks nice too. If I return when the sun's out and it's at least 70 degrees (I know, I'm picky), I'll request a table outside. I'm not sure if I'm spreading fake news, but I would swear that the breakfast potatoes were cooked in a Dutch oven. The way they were cooked with the blackened edges and the seasoning, it just screamed "camping" to me. They were tasty. The bacon was also delicious and cooked just right. I didn't much care for the pancake, but that could be my personal taste. Service was attentive and friendly enough. I didn't feel rushed nor did I feel like the server wanted to pull up a chair and have a conversation-it was the right balance. I enjoyed my meal and will happily return for another.

Chloe L.

Yelp
Foods are good. But the service was mediocre. Their estimates for sitting is far off. 15min is what they told us and we waited almost 40 min. Inside sitting is extremely loud.
google avatar

Danni N.

Yelp
Roots Café is dangerously close to my house, which means I'm always this close to dropping everything and running there like it's my personal farm-to-table emergency. The food is so fresh I half-expect the veggies to still have life goals. Every bite tastes like it was made with love, good vibes, and ingredients that probably had a happy childhood. It's the kind of place that makes you feel smug about your life choices just for eating there. If freshness were a sport, Roots would be winning gold--and I'd be in the stands, covered in avocado, cheering.

Yelp
This was a joy to visit while I was in SLC. Great food and atmosphere for breakfast. The Arnold Palmer was to die for!! Don't wait, just go!!

Yelp
I've been coming to Roots Cafe for years, and it never disappoints! It's one of those places that stays consistently great, no matter how many times you go. I'm not even vegan or vegetarian, but my favorite meal here is the veggie sausage biscuit and gravy it's absolutely amazing and super filling. Seriously one of the best comfort food options around, with so much flavor. The cafe has this cool blend of old-school diner vibes mixed with artistic and modern touches it's a really unique and cozy atmosphere that makes you want to stay awhile. The staff is always really nice and helpful, and even though there's usually a bit of a wait, it's 100% worth it every time.

Yelp
The food, service, and ambiance are virtually ALWAYS on point at Roots! This is one of our FAVORITE spots for breakfast/brunch. We have been here many times and this was our first time sitting in the yurt. It was perfect! Thanks for another exceptional experience! The eggs bene was on point!

Yelp
First time we visited Roots Café and we would definitely come back. Menu was great with lots of options for everyone and different kinds of food offerings. Staff was nice, service was quick and the location is pretty chill. Granted we went on a weekday morning, can absolutely see how this place is popping on the weekends.
google avatar

Juna D.

Yelp
We've been here twice. The first time was a Saturday morning and the second was a Thursday morning. What a difference. We probably waited an hour before we got seated on a Saturday even after calling and putting our name down. This place super popular if you come at the wrong time. Luckily there is vintage store in the same building you can walk around and waste time. I almost gave this place 4 stars because of the extremely long wait but I can't fault them for that. I would suggest coming during the week if you can. The food was great. I had the burrito the first time and the breakfast peeto sandwich the second. I recommend the sandwich on the ciabatta. My wife really loved the pancakes she got (no picture sorry). I also like that they had lots of juice options. I got a different one each time and they were really tasty. The service is great once you get seated. They are very attentive. The place is a little small for a popular breakfast spot, especially on the weekends. The parking lot is kind of tight too, so drive slowly. I definitely would come back to try more on their menu. I'll be back in the middle of the week. I hear the benedicts are really good.

Yelp
Yelp helped us find this place to try for our Friday Brunch dates.  We decided to give it a try. Parking is hard, tricky, on the narrow side. The restaurant is small. Attached to an "antique store."  A yurt was attached to the dining area to create more dining. The wait was not long. Tables in the main dining area were close together and it was on the louder side in there. We did not go into the Yurt but could tell it was a little quieter. What we ordered: I had the biscuits and gravy: chose scrambled eggs and sausage as the protein. Wife had the Benedict and choose scrambled eggs instead of poached. We got service when we sat to get drink ordered. She came back to take food order. She refilled my coffee once. Food was brought out quickly. Then we didn't see her again or else she was on the other side of the room, too far for us to catch her eye. My wife had to flag her over.   Why? Because our potatoes were lukewarm. Not at all fresh. I guessed maybe a heat lamp? Her Benedict was missing tomatoes. We discovered our eggs were probably the only thing that was freshly made and the rest was just under a heat lamp. Highly disappointing. She wasn't at all apologetic about it either. She brought over a side plate with sone dramatically different potatoes: the hers were definitely just made.  Also, Waitress told my wife that the menu says "when in season" when it came to getting tomatoes on her Benedict and apparently they are not in season. This restaurant is a trek from where we live. But when some places wow us, we go back if we happen to be in the area or near. Sadly, our 1st time here did not leave us with a good 1st impression at all.

Yelp
Came from Cali. Just stopped by for a quick brunch. We didn't wait long for a seat. You'd think since it's the 4th of July it would be packed. We got seated within 5 mins. Our food came by fast. The service was good. The food was good.

Yelp
Roots B and G. You can't go wrong with it. I could eat this every day! Service is always awesome, ambiance is cool and chill.

Yelp
Good food and casual atmosphere. I sat in the "yurt" and loved the vibe. The waitress was so nice and gave me recommendations of kale chips and "the cleanse" as a juice. I had both with my meal and enjoyed them. The juice was very healthy tasting. My straw was red afterwards, which made me chuckle. I ordered the blue cheese burger with avocado on the side and kale chips. The burger was so good!!! There was ample amount of blue cheese crumbles and the bacon was thick and crispy. The kale chips were crispy and salty. I had never had kale chips before so this was a new experience. I will be back and definitely order the blue cheese burger again. I will most likely try a different side since the other sides sounded delicious. The burger was my favorite part of the meal. I love how the restaurant is connected to an adorable antique store.

Yelp
My gf and I went here on a Sunday at around noon, there was a 30 minute wait which was expected. We were able to peruse around the old flamingo next door. Food came out super quick, probably about 7 mins after we ordered, right before our coffee, which is fantastic by the way. I got the breakfast burrito smothered in chile verde, which wasn't an option on the menu but was delicious nonetheless. I really liked how this burrito was unique to all other breakfast burritos, and had peppers, mushrooms, zucchini, tomatoes, etc on the inside in addition to the bacon and eggs, it provided for a very delicious combination. She got the eggs Benedict with the sausage, and that was delicious as well, hollandaise was great and sausage was super flavorful, great combination. Potatoes also had the perfect balance of crispy and soft. Overall we'd give it a 10/10 and it will be hard to come back and get anything else on the menu!!

Yelp
Loved roots cafe. We came to Salt Lake city for Christmas week and roots Cafe was in our airbnb suggestions and so happy we came to check it out. We absolutely loved their buttermilk pancakes with their organic maple syrup. Food was outstanding and we only waited 15min when we came on a weekday around 11am ish! They also have a cuteshop right outside the Cafe with lovely Christmas decor and other vintage stuff, we picked up a few things Would definitely visit again on our future trip to the city!

Yelp
Oh has it has been a long time since I have been back! And don't know why it has taken me this long to come back here. Went for lunch and got the peeto spice breakfast sandwich and was not disappointed. This used to be my favorite brunch place but on the weekends it is very busy. The hydrator juice was just what I needed today to kick start my day. I am glad I made it back and for sure will be coming more often.

Yelp
Roots Cafe, where have you been all my life?! I can't believe I just visited Roots Cafe for the first time this weekend. I wish I had discovered it years ago! This is one of my new favorite breakfast spots. We got here around 11 on Sunday and there was a 20 minute wait. You sign up for the waitlist and they text you when your table is ready. Luckily, there is a wonderful vintage store called The Old Flamingo that is right outside Roots, and we meandered around the store while waiting for our table. The wait was exactly 20 minutes and we were seated inside. They have both inside and outside seating. Our server was wonderful! I got the vegetarian breakfast sandwich, which comes with their house potatoes and wow, I was truly blown away. It came with eggs, veggie sausage, house made pesto, heirloom tomatoes, and a rosemary ciabatta bread. It was really delicious and was also HUGE. I took half home and ate it later in the day and it heated up beautifully. The house potatoes were amazing as well, I love a good breakfast potato. They have fresh juices, teas, and coffees - no mimosas here, but that's okay :) We got our food quickly, and everything was delicious. Can't wait to come back here!

Mo M.

Yelp
Always amazing service, exceptional food and portion size. Big compliments to chef, staff and management team! We plan on coming more often. We appreciate your consistently great service, beautiful food and fair pricing. Southerner Omelette has become my longtime favorite. Family loved the Enchilada Casserole and Mole Taco Salad.

Yelp
If you want a healthy and hearty breakfast, brunch, or lunch you gotta come to Roots Cafe. There are plenty of locally sourced options from a very diverse menu that I will be shocked if you don't find at least TWO things you want from their menu. I couldn't decide between a fresh smoothie, delicious iced mocha, or limeade! I wanted to have all three but I was music festing later so I didn't want to take any risks. Sure it's busy on the weekend. Who isn't?! We all are and trust me the wait is totally worth it so stick around. Right next store there is a spot that is connected to a local antique-esque/modern/consignment spot right next door too. Upon exploring I saw some cool local stickers, handmade jewelry, clothing, cards, and even saw a back section of the store just for vinyl browsing. Go look around! I bet you will find the next best gift for yourself or someone you love. Seating outside is adorable too and there is plenty of green plants and space for you to feel like you are at a neighbors house. This neighborhood is cute, quaint, and plenty green. The menu is straight forward and super affordable. I felt super satisfied with portions, preparation, and taste was *chef's kiss*. The simple and local ingredients is why you come here. No reservations which is fine. It is worth any wait to get a chance to eat and hang here. It's all good to wait on the patio in front surrounded by greenery, on the long church-like bench inside, and/or at the local antique artisan store right past the entrance of the cafe.

Yelp
First timer here: The food and ambiance were great (we sat on the outdoor patio)! I got the eggs Benedict with a pancake on the side, and I'm telling you, my food disappeared faster than a one hit wonder's music career. Seriously, I could literally drink their hollandaise sauce! And the fact that their food is all local and organic doesn't hurt either;) I'll definitely be back!

Matt C.

Yelp
I would say this is a hidden gem, because you could drive right past it without noticing, but it is always busy. This time we had to wait a little longer than quoted for a table, but the food was worth it! I had the gardener omelet with the chile verde, and it was absolutely delicious.
google avatar

Yelp
Roots cafe was a very pleasant lunch experience. I got the spicy French dip with a side of the soup of the day (corn chowder) and some extra avocado horseradish aioli on the side, accompanied by an Arnold Palmer. The French dip was a perfect spice level, and the avocado horseradish aioli was very very good. However I was a little disappointed with the quality of the bread. I do not feel the bread matched the quality of the other ingredients, and is the biggest reason that this review gets 4 stars instead of 5. The Arnold Palmer was absolutely incredible, I would highly recommend. Their corn chowder had a more watery consistency than I was expecting, but the flavor was really well balanced. I really liked this soup. I was worried it would be too hot to eat outside, but the shaded patio was actually really enjoyable. Despite it being 90 degrees outside. Service was prompt and friendly. Food was received quickly. Overall I would recommend this place if you're looking for a quick and tasty lunch.

Yelp
Friday brunch dates with the hubs-- we have been trying to make an effort to try new places. We happened to be up north this particular Friday due to a doctor's appointment so I decided this place. I've had it on my list for awhile. The parking is super cramped/ narrow. There seems to be a bunch of little businesses all sharing the parking lot. The restaurant inside is also very small with a yurt attached for additional seating. There was a wait but not long. Our waitress was not exactly friendly. She actually sounded "bored". Haha. We ordered the Benedict and the Biscuits&Gravy. Food came out fairly quickly but when we dug in we we found out why it came out pretty fast. I've seen the reviews where people have commented on their potatoes being burnt but ours was "ok" however luke warm --at best. Not hot and fresh. We tried the other parts of our plate and the only part that sealed hot and fresh were the eggs. Both of our sausages were room temp. I think you can say the same for my sauce and his gravy. The waitress finally came over after I waved her down -- 1) no tomatoes on my Bene. "Oh the menu states, when in season-- and no. They are not in season." Weird. Um ok? She didn't point that out when I ordered it but (did I mention the dining area is a lil cramped) when the table next to us put in their order, she warned them that there will be no tomatoes. 2) both of our potatoes tasted as tho the were not fresh. Like they had been made earlier and maybe stuck under a heat lamp. she offered and brought over a side plate of hot ,fresh off the grill potatoes. Better coloring too. I have to say we were very disappointed with this place because the great reviews lead us over. Our 1st impression unfortunately made us not want to come back.

Yelp
Roots Café is my go to breakfast place with friends and family. The food is delicious with many vegetarian options. The prices have creeped up slowly over the past year, but it is still very much worth the price. The staff is always cheerful and quick with a recommendation. If you are looking for brunch on a Saturday, be prepared to wait a bit.

Yelp
This is one of the AMAZING brunch places in SLC. There don't take any reservations and it's first come first serve. This places is usually crowded with wait time on weekends around 45 mins. We ordered classic roots of the day and southern omelette, both of which came with house potatoes and a choice of toast, muffin or pan cake. Food here is really good, especially the muffin and their home made jam. Ambiance is absolutely pleasant and their patio seating is amazing. Over all, it makes a perfect brunch place for a spring afternoon. The service is bit delayed but it's understandable because of the crowd this place has. PS, we also ordered kombucha which came out of a bottle and it wasn't really great, maybe you could skip that and order their cold press juices.

Yelp
Food has gone downhill alot...what was once delicious has become bland and the presentation is not appetizing. Our plates were never cleared even when the check was presented...service was slacking.

Yelp
Cute little place. It's attached to an antique store, so you can shop while you wait. Service was very friendly and helpful. Food was delicious. I had the eggs Benedict, sauce was good and poached egg cooked perfect. My daughter had the pancake flavor of the day (orange espresso) she was very impressed. Will definitely be coming back her next time we are in town.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem for sure. I like that they have their own private parking, so you won't find yourself parking on the streets. The ambiance and decor is nice. The staff are very friendly. They work quick and efficiently, even when it gets busy. They are always checking on you, making sure you are doing good. The food was OK. It wasn't anything spectacular. The pancakes were meh and they were burnt. The huevos rancheros were not authentic, not what I was expecting. Everything is priced well though, so I appreciate that. I enjoyed their selection of fresh juices though. I will be returning for those.

Yelp
Hands down the best eggs Benedict I've found in the valley and the potatoes are SO GOOD. The place is a small cute perfect little brunch spot.

Yelp
Wow. This place was fantastic. Had a small wait on a Saturday morning but otherwise smooth sailing. Portions were hearty and everything was really flavorful. Our waiter was really chill, took care of all our needs, and food came out real fast. HIGHKY recommended if you love breakfast
