"For those of you tracking all the pizza styles in Chicago with an FBI-style push pin map, Roots serves Quad Cities-style pies. Which means the pizzas here are round, cut into rectangles, and have toppings under the cheese. The menu is huge, with a decent selection of salads and rotating pizzas designed by local chefs. A huge bar area, large patio outside, and interesting specialty pies make it a great local spot for hanging out with pizza and beer." - adrian kane, john ringor

"Roots is a family-friendly pizza spot in Lincoln Square. They serve Quad Cities-style pies, which means the pizza here is cut into rectangles, and on most pies, the toppings are under the cheese. There’s a lengthy menu with a decent selection of salads and a rotating list of pizzas designed by local chefs, and also a separate kids’ menu, with things like housemade spaghetti, a hot dog, and mini corn dogs. Great outdoor patio for dining, really lovely flower boxes and a canopy of shade trees. This summer ambience made the meal wonderful. Service was good; pizza was pretty good! It’s not super thick crust but has some thickness to it and sweetness to it. It’s really tasty pizza. I also recommend the honey chicken poppers appetizer- so good!!

Google
The pizza itself is solid, I ordered a 16” taco pizza tonight, largest size. Hot and ready, the crust tasted fantastic. The chips, tomatoes, and lettuce were on the side, in order to avoid a soggy pizza. Good plan, but, the lettuce was lacking, didn’t even cover half of the pizza, there were a few more chips, but not enough to cover the entire pizza. And a very small container of chopped tomatoes, that covered 2 pieces of pizza. No Bueno.

Google
Friendly staff and fun ambience. The mozzarella sticks were really good but nothing special, definitely don't think they're worth any hype. Similarly, I thought the collaboration with different Chicago restaurants for their pizzas is a super cool idea (we got a split Korean friend chicken/Korean bbq sausage pizza), but the pizza was really heavy on the cheese. We got full off of only a single slice each and took the rest to go. Overall, I had a good meal and might return if I'm in the area but wouldn't go out of my way to come back.

Contemporary cozy modern atmosphere. Great service from busser/food runner! We even met the boss! Unique pizza combos. We signed up for the loyalty program and will be back!

Google
This place is beautiful and the staff is great. We ordered a half sausage, pepperoni pizza. With the Mozzarella Sticks for an appetizer. The Mozzarella sticks are huge and absolutely delicious! I just wish the Pizza was the same.

Google
First experience with Quad City-style pizza. Dough is fairly thick and dense (not greasy) with a distinctive sweet profile which I'd guess come from the addition of malt. Place also seems very kid-friendly but also a sports bar vibe with lots of wall-mounted TV's.

Google
Been here before and the home made mozerella are the best. The pizza is very good too but this trip was to try the build your own salad. It was excellent. Very good service and street parking is good.

Google
Lots of good appetizers and pizza option and their pizza crust is excellent. The mozzarella sticks were so good I ordered an extra to take home.

Yelp
Even though I'm very avowed Chicago style pizza guy, Roots is probably one of my favorite pizza places in Chicago. They are known for their Quad city style pizza which features Malt crust and the pizza cut into strips ! Roots Lincoln Square is a great location for beer, pizza and a good time. Pro tip, get their specialty pizzas split 50/50 . We got tikka masala and Barbacao. Also absolutely love the service here! Great for families, couples, or if you're on your own! It's not too loud, and it's easy to have good conversations. Did I mention how much I love the crust !!!'n #pizza #chicago

Yelp
Roots Lincoln Square has a neighborhood vibe and ample seating but the food left a lot to be desired. Wanting a simple pie and salad on a whim, my fiancé and I decided to give Roots a try on a weekday evening. We were seated quickly and given menus. The service was friendly and helpful, especially as first-timers to the restaurant and to quad-city pizza (sliced in strips, a sweeter dough). We ordered the jumbo Mozzarella sticks by recco from our server, an Asian-inspired salad and a pepperoni pizza. We enjoyed the Mozzarella sticks but our salad and pizza was bland and didn't feel fresh. We ate less than half of our food and declined to take home our leftovers. There are a few other places that have great pizza in the area for around the same prices so we won't return.

Yelp
Had heard good things about this place, so decided to try it out with delivery. Kinda made a bad decision ngl. I ordered the popcorn chicken and a pizza with pepperoni and pepperonici peppers. The popcorn chicken was mid at best. They heavily coated it in some honey sauce that kinda masked the weird rubber ness of the chicken. After eating a couple, I tasted something foul, so I tore a few open and they were this weird gray color. That meat was tough and strange. Not sure what was going on, but I would have expected it to be white meat, not weird gray meat for chicken. The pizza wasn't good at all. Hardly enough sauce and cheese and it looks like they left it in the oven make it into a cracker. Barely a flavor and felt like I was chewing on a cracker. Didn't live up to its hype at all. Very disappointed to say the least.

Yelp
Super cool spot and perfect for large parties to watching sports at the bar with a friend. Loved the different variety they make with pizzas and ordered the taco pizza. The service was super prompt and easy and he was very friendly and answered all our questions. The portion size of these pizzas are HUGE so it is easily shareable. I loved their mozzarella sticks and it is truly a high recommendation to try!

Ashley S.

Yelp
Obsessed with this pizza. They have a vegan pizza with a vegan ranch dipping sauce and I could eat it every day. My only wish is that they had a meat substitute that was gf. But they do have a great gf crust which I can definitely appreciate.

Yelp
Absolute TRASH!!! A Hell's Kitchen episode, my stomach is killing me after eating here. The only reason I suggested coming here was because a few weeks ago I ate with friends at the Chicago Ave location and it was pretty good. I have no idea how the two could possibly be connected. We ordered the ROASTED mushrooms, that have a ticket time of 15-20 mins that's comes out in a mini cast iron skillet. It arrived in less than 10 mins with raw mushrooms under an insane amount of cheese. We then got the artichoke dip, it had a disgusting amount of oil (see pic). I actually spooned quite a bit of it out. We ordered everything at once so we still had a salad, a beef, and margherita pizza. The salad had wilted lettuce, the pizza sauce was bland, my husband wasn't happy with the beef. The mushrooms were taken off the bill, but $70 later, the only thing that decent was the Blood Orange Paloma. I'm now up with relentless stomach cramps, if I have some type of food poisoning I'm definitely disputing payment. This is ridiculous, I can't even sleep, and I been feeling amazing before eating here.

Yelp
I love Roots! We've been a number of times and I'll tell you my favorites. First, most recently, they had a promotion for a free pizza kit. We got the Taco Pizza and made it at home. It far exceeded my expectations! The toppings were prepared with care and not all thrown together haphazardly. Made it easy to throw in the fridge when we got home. The instructions were clear and it turned out well! Most people go for the the mozzarella sticks (we call them logs ). They're good but you definitely need a few friends to share with! My favorite thing on the menu is the Build Your Own Salad! I included a photo of one of my favorite iterations. Popcorn chicken is so tasty here! If you visit for happy hour you'll get double the size for the price of a pint! It comes out it a huge goblet! You'll feel very fancy. If you sit at the bar, tell Eddie hello!

Jen C.

Yelp
I always have loved Roots food, but it is impossible to order food from them without going through a secondary source like Grubhub or DoorDash. Every time I attempt to order food I am put on hold for a very long time, each time ending up with me being sent to voicemail. I then tired to order online for carry out and it continuously had technical difficulties in the processing. Sometimes I wonder why I continue to try. It's really upsetting. I wish I lived closer to the far superior branch in West Town.

Mindy W.

Yelp
My daughter and I eat at Roots almost every Wednesday! We love It here. The staff is awesome! Especially Eddie. He always has a smile on his face and makes sure we are getting everything we need. He's always in a great mood even when they are slammed. The Mozzarella Sticks are the best! If you haven't had them you are missing out! My daughter always gets a pizza for herself that she likes cold in her lunchbox the next day too! We love our Mommy daughter date nights here!

Brian J.

Yelp
Best place in the neighborhood. Great food and even better staff. This is a weekly staple for our family. Super friendly environment for kids. Also a great place just to stop by and grab a beer.

Siobhan F.

Yelp
I have been going to this location ever since it opened and it's excellent! The food is fantastic, the beer list is on point, and the service is always great!! But one person in particular has turned me and my friends into regulars, and that's Eddie!! He used to be our favorite bartender, but the restaurant was smart and promoted him, and now he's our favorite manager. The man constantly goes above and beyond, and has made us feel like family since our very first visit. We love Lincoln Square Roots, and Eddie!!

James S.

Yelp
I love the space and the bar has a great selection of everything but the pizza is a different style than I like so won't get the pizza but will still keep hanging out there

Leila G.

Yelp
I ordered a pizza for delivery at 5:30. I got a call at 5:10 saying my pizza was at my house. I wasn't home and didn't get home until 5:20, so I had a cold pizza waiting for me. Not only that, but it was completely smushed. Like the box had been tilted while it was hot, and it cooled off in a smushed fashion. The pizza itself tastes good. But I paid $40 for this and was not happy about this. I tried calling and wasn't able to leave a message due to a full voicemail box, and was left on hold by the hostess for well over 10 minutes, so I just hung up. Would not support this business again, as there is a pizza joint at every corner in this city. Wouldn't recommend ordering for delivery.

Kalin W.

Yelp
Not sure what's been going on lately. After many attempts to order pizzas with very basic customizations, I think we might give up on Roots, even though it's so close by. If you ask for light cheese, you get extra cheese. If you request extra sauce, you get basically no sauce. It's honestly really confusing. The vegan ranch is still 10/10 though.

Michelle W.

Yelp
Really disappointing experience with Roots tonight. Ordered a pizza that took almost 2 hours to deliver. The pizza was overcooked and stone cold. This is the third such experience like this. I'm done.

Pepper M.

Yelp
I've been a patron of Roots in West Town for nearly a decade and loved every single bite of it, but after I relocated to the Lincoln Square neighborhood and started having Roots here, I have been left with a disappointing taste in my mouth. I have never loved any experience at this location, but the delicious malted crust has allowed me to push a lot aside until my last three visits. The space is great - plenty of booths, as well as great bar seating with individual TV controls. A great place to sit and have a drink while watching your preferred game of choice. However, the staff and end product leave an overwhelming amount to be desired. This weekend I stopped in for a beer while awaiting an order to go. The order came out and had incorrect toppings. This in and of itself is not a deal breaker - things happen, we're all human. However, one of the misplaced toppings is one that I despise, so I opted to head back in to have the pie corrected. I waited a few moments and was pleasantly surprised when the pizza came out lightning fast! I returned home, pizza in tow, only to open the box and find that it was not a new pizza. Instead, they picked off SOME of the aforementioned incorrect topping and replaced it with the actual topping ordered - there were clear marks in the cheese where the other toppings had been previously. A cheap, and pretty gross shortcut. First - there were still pieces of the old topping in the pizza. I'd say about 35% still remained, clearly visible and resting atop the even layer of melted cheese. Second - the new toppings were not warm like the rest of the pie. Just cold additions, haphazardly tossed in the box. Third - the odds of this "topping peeling" having been done by ungloved hands? Even the thought is enough to make me have a hard pass on this pizza. It's now just a glorified frisbee for the dumpster in the alley. This with compounding experiences of the first few drinks ordered off the draft menu being out of stock, the manager making rude and oddly uncomfortable remarks while tailoring the experience for friends of his, and overall mediocre experiences? I'll save Roots for any time I venture back to West Town going forward.

Bridget M.

Yelp
Look no further than the mozzarella sticks!!! They are *THE BEST* in the game. The absolute best - no questions asked. If you like malt crust pizza, this place is also for you. They have endless ingredients for their pizza. Also, their salads are INCREDIBLE and big enough to feed an army. The bartender Eddie is the friendliest dude in the neighborhood and he took great care of us the two times we visited. Don't miss the salad!!!! They have amazing options. We'll be back again for motz sticks and salads!!

Zinna S.

Yelp
Came here for dinner on a weeknight without a reservation and were able to be seated right away. Inside setup is mostly l a bunch if booths and a long bar, temperature was pretty cold and drafty. Garlic monkey bread was delicious, then split a 12 inch build your own pizza. They are flexible with doing half/half with different toppings. You can see the cooks tossing and throwing the pizza dough behind a glass wall but the pizza itself is very average. The sauce, toppings (pepperoni, garlic, fresh onion, fresh jalapeño) and cheese were all just ok - lacking flavor.

Henry Z.

Yelp
Walked 45 minutes to meet my fiancé on a Monday to be told by an employee that they were take-out only that day. Hours on the website, Yelp and Google clearly state that dine-in is until 9pm on Mondays. No signage, nothing to indicate that dine-in wasn't a thing. We're busy people and it just wasn't our day so we didn't want to wait around in an empty restaurant for a take-out pizza.

Brandi E.

Yelp
Mozzarella sticks are yummy! Not sure if I tried enough food to provide a proper review but I ordered via Uber eats and my food arrived hot and packaged well. I feel like if I tried to eat the mozzarella sticks in house I would hurt myself lol they're so yummy so it was best they arrived warm and not hot lol only con was the marinara sauce, it's very sweet and I hope they use a different sauce on the pizza

Jacob H.

Yelp
This place is amazing. Best mozz sticks I've ever had. Pizza and salads are unreal. Great beer selection. Eddie knows his stuff and is always there to help.

Jenna W.

Yelp
Great food - especially the mozzarella sticks. They also have an awesome beer list. The manager Eddie is super friendly and knows a ton about the beers too. He or Chris, the bartender, will give you great recommendations.

Tony L.

Yelp
Love this place. We used to live across the street so it was our neighborhood bar. Moved a little farther away but still the place we frequent the most in the 25 (Lincoln Square). Our bartender Eddie, now a manager, is the best! Friendly and fun to chat with.

Lauren M.

Yelp
We ate here last weekend and had a great experience! I have food allergies (nuts) and my partner is vegan, I called ahead to confirm that both our diets could safely eat there and the hostess was extremely personable and friendly and checked with the kitchen no problem, she remembered me when we came for dinner a few hours later and was again super friendly! Both bar staff who took our order and the waitress who brought our food went above and beyond to make sure we felt safe eating everything we'd ordered considering our dietary restrictions. The vegan pizza was amazing (and 100% nut free) and the beer list was full of great beer options! Vegan Pizza

Yelp
I really hate that is come to this, because this was one of our favorites in the area...but it's just gotten progressively worse since early 2020. First off, I love their pizza, and when I'm eating crust, this is one of my go to pages. And their salads have always been awesome. But that's my first problem. It seems like every time I find a salad or dish I like, they change or eliminate it. I understand you have to change worth what's fresh and seasonal, but why get rid of an entire type of salad. Am example is their 'Fierce Tofu Salad'. I loved that salad, so of course it disappeared. You can recreate it from the build your own, but now it costs $23 versus the original $15 or so for a vegetarian salad. But at least I can get close to what was a great salad. But what I can't get past is the service. I don't even know where to start with this. The servers seem to be clueless half the time, and could care less the rest of the time. I understand there is a shortage of servers, but this is just beyond annoying to the customers. Sometimes when the place is not busy, the bartender is doing double duty and having to be a server and bartender...usually doing a better job than some of the servers. The same for the hosts...is just feels like they could care less about being there. We try to make reservations most times, and specify that we do not like to sit in a booth, only a table or half booth. This is always an issue, even though every time we put it on the reservation comments. And then there are hours. We have come several times only to find that the restaurant is closed without even a note on the door. I get staffingcan be difficult, but at least give people a notice. I know it seems nitpicky, but we really do love the food here and hate that it feels like their level of commitment had slipped. We visit other locations and have never felt they were even close to this disorganized.

Pavnit K.

Yelp
This is actually not a bad review for Roots. It is however, what I would consider a fair review if I had to consider my experience pre and post COVID. Pre-COVID, I can't say my experience was amazing. I used to live in East Village and loved Roots, so I was excited to know one existed in Lincoln Square. I was even more excited when I found out they offered brunch. We came her for brunch and unfortunately everything was pretty sub par. I would give my experience a 1 to 1.5 star. However, since COVID, we have both dined outside and ordered dinner. Both times, the food was pretty good! I got the Lamar Moore pizza, which I thought was pretty amazing. I loved the spice from the sausage and the acid from the tomatillos. Then, more recently, I ordered a make-your-own pizza. The ingredients they used were so fresh! I was thoroughly impressed. My hands down favorite, however is their mozzarella sticks. I could eat them every day. They are the definition of comfort food in my opinion. From a COVID perspective, they really went above and beyond to make us all feel safe. My favorite is they installed contraptions on the doors to allow you to open with your foot vs using your hands.

Jim C.

Yelp
Great place with get food. Ask for the fresh bread dough for kids to play. They love it. Of course you can't forget Eddy. He makes you feel like a friend. Yes we go to hang out at with the best. Eddy you Rick.

Sam R.

Yelp
Let's start with the service. I think they managed to hire someone from the DMV as the hostess!!! Really the wrong person for what should be the most welcoming position at the restaurant. Terrible attitude in both occasions I visited the place to pick up. On my last visit, she suggested I give tip on my order I came to pick up (this happened during low Covid rates and the place had a lot of people seated). Call me cheap or old school, but I do t tip when I pick up carry over. When she gave me the pizza I ordered and saw the receipt, she grappled it crumbled it and gave me "go F yourself look". I only pick up from there and it is terrible experience already, can't imagine seating and eating there. Now the pizza, when I got home, it was not a circle, more like a bean shape. It felt like someone who hates his job made it. Pizza was average at best. Does not justify the premium price I paid for it. I would say better than domino and worse than Jimmy Johns. Not sure why I went there again a second time. It was a clear mistake.

Ryan G.

Yelp
I've had split experiences here. I think if you're walking by and looking for a sports bar, this place fits the bill. Their food has always been decent.

Rohan D.

Yelp
Although this is a pizza joint, I just couldn't order any of their weird pizzas. Just too unorthodox for me. Besides the sandwiches and salads are great. I think they should change their name to "Roots sandwiches and salads," and let the waitstaff note to customers that they also serve up some peculiar pizzas. The Rock Island Arsenal Foldover is two or more meals and much better than those strange pizzas. Actually I wouldn't know because I won't try the pizzas, but I'll come back for the sandwiches. The meatball, the veggie foldover, both awesome. Best choice of salads and maybe the best Mozzarella sticks I've had, though I'm lactose intolerant so I only enjoy them for about an hour or two, then I'm very full of regret. Nice outside area to eat and I like they way they've taken COVID19 seriously. Excellent service.

Aly M.

Yelp
Best pizza in Chicago IMO. Perfect amount of cheese and toppings. Good salads. Crispy crust. Sauce is good but not sure if there is sugar in there.

Brittanie L.

Yelp
We've been coming to this place since it opened. We love the atmosphere and the staff, especially Eddie, who always treats us like family. We like the specialty pizzas and the salads, but my current favorite is the grinder. Apps are great too! Highly recommend.

Alan S.

Yelp
I had gone to this pizza, place with curiousity and discovered it to be a great place. The ambiance is festive with many different people enjoying their dinner...I also hear "Air Supply" being played in the background of this place . So you can take your date while drinking pineapple juice... We had taco and birria piza ...12 inches... Both pizzas were delicious. The birria pizza had a sweet after taste while you could taste the ground beef from the taco pizza... The host served us the food with a hospitable attitude ...They were very friendly to us... Service , food , and atmosphere was a five for me ...

Lisa R.

Yelp
Best mozzarella sticks I have ever had. Ever. And I'm from Wisconsin. Great service and wonderful pizza.

Jon J.

Yelp
Food and service was great! Vanessa was very welcoming!!! We loved our experience. Will definitely be going back. The pizza was amazing!

Bill M.

Yelp
Roots Handmade Pizza serves a Quad Cities-style pizza, so the pizza is cut into strips instead of slices or squares. My lovely friend and I stopped in this Roots location on Lawrence Avenue on an early Sunday afternoon, so the TV's were showing all sorts of sports action. The bar area looks cool, but we stuck with ice water, and I added on a bottle of Roots root beer which was good. They use hand-thrown dough for the pizza, and you can watch the guy in the window toss the dough in the air old-school style. There are a few tables that are lined on a "track" so they can be arranged for large or smaller groups. We sat in a huge cozy booth that could probably seat six. Our server was very pleasant. We started with an order of fried ravioli with meat inside (or you can get cheese filling) and some marinara sauce on the side. A few of them came out impossibly puffy so they were fun to eat. We ordered a 12" sausage pizza, which we figured was good for two persons. I have had their pizza at the original location on Chicago Avenue and it was quite good. However we were somewhat disappointed by this sausage pizza. They top the pizza with crumbled sausage rather than large chunks of it. What was more problematic were the really hard and tough edges of the pizza. I like to eat the entire pizza whether it is the middle or the crusts or everything in between. The edges of this pizza were practically inedible, even on the few pieces that I took home for later consumption. I would like to check out Roots again, but will probably try something else on the menu.

Jason K.

Yelp
The likelihood of me going back is slim due to the 3% additional charge for credit card transactions which you are unaware of until you receive the merchant copy to sign. Other then that service at atmosphere is average

Jason Z.

Yelp
Roots handmade pizza is according to the website, "was born in the Quad cities". I didn't know that the Quad cities was known for pizza. I've been to the Quad cities before. I've also been to Chicago before. I don't believe that the Quad cities has anything on Chicago when it comes to pizza. Although this pizza was good, I just didn't think it was anything special. The service was great, attentive and quick. The server was great, friendly and knowledgeable being able to answer questions about Quad city pizza. Chicago has many options for pizza and I'll keep Roots on the list of places I would return to, however, it's a big list.

William F.

Yelp
I've been going to this location for over 5 years the food and service is always amazing. Love the mozzarella sticks all the salads and Especially Eddy.

Dominika M.

Yelp
Place turned awful after COVID with terrible service. I know how hard it is to find good staff nowadays and feel bad for the owner. Do not dine in. Starting with a hostess to waiting staff (at least on a Thursday), it's a mess. If taken to go, it's great and reliable.

Beth H.

Yelp
The pizza is overly priced with not a lot of ingredients. And if you order a gluten-free pizza it's an extra $25, so I ended up paying $50 for a pizza that barely had pulled pork on it. And it was kinda. Old by the time we got it! so if you like overly priced pizza that is bare then by all means enjoy.

F Q.

Yelp
Eddie's back, great news for the neighborhood. Food is always solid here, mozzarella sticks a must to start w. The service is where you win here, Eddie was gone for a moment & we missed him tending the bar, he's back & so are we

Jenna C.

Yelp
A-OK place to grab a pizza, sip a beer, and watch a game on their many tvs. There's definitely an overarching sportsbar vibe to this restaurant. Luckily it wasn't very busy for a late dinner so my friend and I were seated in a large, comfy booth. We both chose a beer from their draft list and ordered the Bangers & Lace duck sausage blt pizza to split. It was unique, and we both enjoyed it. The specialty pizzas run around $25, but I used an a la card for $10 off our meal, so we each got out of there for under $20 all in. Overall, there was nothing bad about our experience but nothing really stand out either.

Gregg J.

Yelp
I have been coming to this Roots Pizza in Lincoln Square since it opened. It serves the best pizza in Chicago and is Quad City style pizza and where I am from. The waitress Michaela is so kind and is always happy. She has a great personality. The pizza had sausage and mushrooms on it and was served up by the Manager Eddie. He is also a great guy and cares about your food and service. He always stops by and has great conversations with us. We had awesome specialty drinks made by the bartender Andrew who also always says hi whenever we go there. The pizza and drinks were awesome as always. Michaela, Eddie and Andrew always make us feel very comfortable and are awesome in their manners and customer service. This place also has a great menu besides the pizza too. This place is a "can't miss" place. It is my favorite restaurant in Chicago period.

Mac R.

Yelp
We were anxious to try the Lawrence Avenue Roots Pizza in Ravenswood because we've really enjoyed their Chicago Avenue location. This experience left us underwhelmed and overcharged for average pizza. The malty crust wasn't nearly as good as we've experienced before and instead of that signature chewiness, it was tough and dry. The sausage topping was lacking any pizzazz and flavor. The only onion toppings they offered were red onions that were far too sweet to be used on a pizza. We shouldn't have picked those onions once our server told us, so that we'll chalk up to a mistake on our part. Several years ago we started going to the Chicago Ave. Roots location. The first couple of years were stellar - their malty crust was unique, flavorful and the perfect amount of chew & they have toppings we sampled ad infinitum. Then things changed and although the pizza was still good, it wasn't the 5 star experience anymore. The Pizza we got at this location was definitely much further down the middle of the road and an average 3 Star experience. It's really all about the Pizza. Hopefully they can get theirs back on track because we know it can be a lot better than what we had here.

James R.

Yelp
Always a great time here. Huge bar with quality tap list for those into beer. The food is excellent as well. I highly recommend the cheese sticks. Fair warning though they are basically a meal themselves. Eddy is another great reason to visit this spot. He certainly elevates the vibe and keeps you wanting to come back again.

Alex R.

Yelp
Love this place! The Mozz Sticks and pizza are always great, and Eddie is the man! A fun place to catch a football or soccer game too

Yelp
I've always loved Roots pizza. In fact, I'll admit there have been times I've craved it. I used to frequent the Chicago Ave location when I was in town and fell in love with the distinctive malt taste of the crust at first bite. Something has changed since those early days. My initial review of the original location was 5 stars, revised with a second review to 4 stars. Regrettably this location has lowered it even further. I see a trend here. Having moved to Chicago recently this was the closest location so we had to give it a try. We ordered a 16" sausage and onion and my first bite was filled with disappointment. Yuck. What has happened? It was dry (I asked for a side of sauce after one bite), the crust was like cardboard, the sausage was dry and lacked flavor, and they only offer red onions if you don't want pickled- which, for the record, are too sweet for pizza. I want raw white onions on there. It just wasn't good. And at $23? Ridiculously overpriced for the quality. We brought a lot of it home and I tried it again this morning. Two bites and I threw it away. That in itself says a lot. And my Half Acre pint of Vicious Pet was $9. Ouch. On the positive side, their beer selection is really good. I've not tried too many other things on the menu but the salads were good at Chicago Avenue so if I'm here having a beer, I'm likely to go with a salad.

Yelp
I came here starving a couple days ago and was sat quickly which was great. I came here expecting regular old pizza, but there is honestly a variety of toppings to choose from. I recommend the butter chicken pizza. I am giving this a 3 star purely because of my server. I have been here a couple times, usually for salads, and i recognized my server since she usually hosts. She was so short with me, my husband, and my friend who I was showing around the city. She completely ruined our great day, and I really just wanted to come here to let everyone know that this girl mikeala with the short hair is so rude. She gave me the dirtiest looks and just overall made me extremely uncomfortable. get new servers.

Yelp
I've heard about Roots pizza when people talk about their favorite pizzas. Yes, there are other types of pizza than just deep dish or stuffed. So when our friends suggested Roots Pizza for dinner we gladly accepted. The place is family friendly which is nice. They brought out pizza dough for their toddler to play with. Probably helped if our waiter explained it earlier, cause us adults were confused. Not going to lie that's a very good idea of keeping the kids occupied! First time I've seen any place do this and man oh man that's smart. They've an extensive beer list which was very surprising! I was totally expecting a small beer menu, but nope it's like here's 45+ beers to choose from. We opted for pitchers of Maplewood and Whiner. Not too shabby! I ordered mozzarella sticks for the table. Cause who doesn't love mozz sticks?!!! If you don't love them.... nobody needs that type of negativity in their life! These mozz sticks were some very girthy sticks. Like mini bricks of cheese that are just heavenly in your mouth. Yes, they're that good. We were having trouble figuring out which pizzas to order. Our friendly waiter confirmed we could do half half including the specialty pizzas. Now that just solved everything! We ordered 2 pizzas with half of each: McDowell, Antique Taco's Chili Curd, Pub Royale's butter chicken, and Brian Fishers Korean fried chicken. The McDowell was my fav since it tasted exactly like a Big Mac. I love Big Macs! The Antique Taco pizza was my second favorite and had a lot of flavor. The others were alight. Overall, I was pretty impressed with our visit. The food was solid, drinks were great, service was good, and them mozzarella sticks!
