Rose’s Fine Food Is Returning to the East Side After a Two-Year Slumber | Eater Detroit

"After closing in April 2023, the diner’s owner, Molly Mitchell, plans to reopen in late May and intends to keep much of what made it beloved since its 2014 debut. The spot earned early national accolades from Bon Appétit for its locally sourced menu and employee-forward ethos, and Mitchell says she wants to restore the earnest, pre-pandemic diner vibe that included a vegetable-garden patio and picnic tables. During COVID the operation shifted to curbside and online ordering, added a bottle shop and to-go sandwiches, and for the relaunch Mitchell plans to pair returning staples with new strategies—using the space at night for pop-ups and chef residencies, collaborating with local producers (including a diner-themed chocolate line featuring a rose-custard paczki flavor), and selling a signature pancake mix to help fund reopening. She’s also leaning into her Polish roots for the next menu, has been engaging the community via her Substack for feedback, and aims to provide a neighborhood-focused space much like the original." - Serena Maria Daniels

An Essential Guide to Paczki Day 2020 in Metro Detroit | Eater Detroit

"Rooted in Molly Mitchell’s memories of her mother Shirley making potato doughnuts (often dipped in warm maple syrup), Rose’s Fine Food on East Jefferson serves a blissful, signature paczki based on that potato-doughnut tradition; they ship these year-round via Goldbelly with overnight orders priced at $89 a dozen (though they’re notably available at a lower cost locally), and Mitchell now fields at least one out-of-town order each week." - Eater Staff

Metro Detroit’s Definitive Guide to Paczki Day | Eater Detroit

"On East Jefferson, Rose’s Fine Food offers a blissful, signature paczki based on Shirley Mitchell’s potato-doughnut recipe: Molly Mitchell grew up eating doughnuts made with mashed potatoes that her mother dipped in warm maple syrup, and those potato doughnuts remain a staple at the eatery. Rose’s ships the filled doughnuts year-round via Goldbelly — overnight for $89 a dozen (though they’re notably available at a lower cost in Detroit) — and Mitchell, who was initially skeptical that people would order filled doughnuts online, now fields at least one Goldbelly order each week." - Eater Staff

The 27 Best Places To Eat & Drink In Detroit - Detroit - The Infatuation

"Located on the East Side near Belle Isle, Rose’s Fine Food is the neighborhood diner that you’ll wish was around the corner from where you live. It has the long, old-school counter and bottomless coffee you expect, along with surprisingly good breakfast and lunch food (they close at 3pm on weekdays and 5pm over the weekend). The menu changes each season, but you can always count on the classic Grandpa Richard’s Pancakes and seasonal frittata to cover the sweet and savory bases." - sara barron, sam faye

Detroit media shares their biggest hopes for the city’s estaurant industry in 2024 | Eater Detroit

"A once-celebrated neighborhood restaurant that exemplified the city’s pre-pandemic reputation for openings that centered the needs of the community and its workforce, it struggled financially in the years after COVID-19 and closed permanently in 2023 after failing to stay afloat." - Serena Maria Daniels
