"This charming restaurant in the Rote Wand Gourmet Hotel serves traditional Austrian cuisine at its best, whether it's a perfectly souffléd Wiener schnitzel, delicious buttermilk pancakes or fabulous fondues! Diners can also look forward to cordial service and an extensive and well-curated selection of wines. At lunchtime, only the bistro is open, serving an à la carte menu. In the evening, culinary tradition is showcased in set menus with different options for each course." - Michelin Inspector

"In the exclusive Rote Wand Gourmet Hotel – formerly a modest inn in Zug's old schoolhouse – guests are treated to a very special culinary experience. After enjoying an aperitif and a selection of appetisers, you proceed upstairs to a chic dining area in which warm wood meets sleek design; there, you are shown to your seat – one of the comfortable bar chairs arranged around a horseshoe counter. A special atmosphere reigns here, and this is due in no small part to the well-coordinated, charming and laid-back service team. Julian Stieger, one of Austria's foremost culinary talents, brings his highly unique and modern style to the table: his dishes are complex yet devoid of unnecessary frills, and include specialties such as blood sausage bread with truffle, or pike with mustard and spruce, and are served in the form of a surprise menu." - Michelin Inspector

"Located in Zug, a short 10-minute drive from the glitzy Lech ski resort, the luxurious Rote Wand Gourmet Hotel offers modern design and plenty of amenities. But international travelers and locals really come for the dining experience and family hospitality. After taking over the family business decades ago, husband-and-wife Josef and Natascha Walch (and their three kids) have built the hotel into a gastronomic destination across three separate dining spaces: There’s a classic stuben serving excellent family recipes, like the must-have Chinoise fondue and käsespätzle. The Friends & Fools concept is essentially a four-hands dinner where guest winemakers and chefs make appearances. The pièce de résistance is the Chef’s Table (modeled after the New York restaurant Chef’s Table at Brooklyn Fare), where chef Julian Stieger and his competent, young brigade prepare a 20ish-course meal with tiny bites of caviar pearls, truffle, aged Vorarlberg cheese, pigeon, and lake fish in season. The service is sweet yet professional, the food is tasty and creative, and the non-alcoholic pairing is worth your time." - Michelle Tchea

"Found in the neighboring village of Zug, just a few minutes from Lech, the Chef’s Table at Rote Wand is the perfect example of chef-driven, buzz-worthy cuisine. Housed in an old schoolhouse built in 1780, Rote Wand is the brainchild of award-winning chef Julian Stieger, whose resume includes roles at Eleven Madison Park in New York City and Geranium in Copenhagen. The experience starts with a welcome cocktail and small bites on the ground floor of the schoolhouse. Guests are then brought upstairs for the chef’s table experience, where hyperlocal, hand-foraged Alpine ingredients are reinterpreted in a modern way. If you’re a foodie, this one is a must — just make sure to use the online reservation system to book your table well in advance." - Travel + Leisure Editors

Been going since 2017. Awesome experience! The still rather fresh gourmet concept is now coming into a flow with the Rote Wand team. We felt very much welcome and just love the set up, quiet location, relaxed access to the ski resort. The food is just fantastic with a wish that for one or two evenings there would be a more basic menu served - smile!

This hotel and its restaurants is the place to be at the infamous Arlberg. A unique charme, authentically alpine, culinary revolutionary and all over all high quality. Joschi & family Walch, as well as their team, are pioneers and the recent awards are confirming their efforts and hard work over the years. Can‘t wait to be back at the Chef‘s table!

Chef's Table - what a culinary surprise ! Julian Stieger is maybe one of the most talented chefs in this world (no bs) - absolute perfection oriented - presentation - taste - creativity - localization .... nice athmosphere (including the kitchen and service team harmony), nice design of "the table". And all in an approachable, friendly manner. Can hardly remember any restaurant visit which left me with such a pleasant experience. Thank you.

Rote Wand is a truly one of a kind destination. A beautiful hotel in picturesque surrounds, where you never go hungry and are treated like family.||A super creative hotel, the place feels really inspiring and a great place to switch off, recharge and enjoy nature. |The food offering is incredible, everything eaten at the hotel was fantastic, fresh and creative. Arriving to fresh trout from the lake near the hotel, and then bbqs cooked on the terrace, all amazing! Not to mention the cake served every afternoon, what a treat.||The Walch family who run the hotel are really friendly, and make you feel very welcome. Including their lovely dog Alma.||Rooms are also generously sized and nicely decorated. The views from the rooms are breathtaking, and such a relaxing space.||Was also lucky enough to go to some really interesting events held by the hotel for its summer festival - truly unique, meeting lots of inspiring people and eating very well. Rote Wand even has a "food lab" which was amazing to learn about and try all the wild creations.||Would recommend anyone to stay at this beautiful hotel, its a foodies dream in a stunning location, all with a super creative feel.

This place is dialed in to having the most relaxing, fun, and gourmet Alps experience. The location is gorgeous with easy access to skiing and to town (via shuttle). The food is wonderful, the beds so comfortable and cozy, the spa/sauna/pool clean and lovely. But the staff is exceptional. In addition to being incredibly helpful, they are polite, funny, interesting, kind, go above and beyond, and engaging. Everyone seems very happy to be there and to be part of your experience. Top notch. Top notch! Cannot wait to return.

Excellent hotel with stylish but warm atmosphere and outstanding food options. The rooms have different styles - ranging from Scandinavian bright to Alpine cozy. But always modern. The cheese fondue is the best in Lech. The three restaurant options are all top notch. The service is attentive and very friendly. The breakfast is also served (no buffet) , so you need to bring some time (45min) The absolute highlight for us were the many bread options from the in-house bakery. Heaven! The bar is well equipped and offers many cocktail discoveries. So does the wine cellar. It’s a ski-in/out hotel that connects you to the Lech skiing area. The hotel offers a full service ski rental on site. Zug village is a short walk from busy Lech, and a (free) bus connects you hassle-free all day long to Lech. We loved it and will come again.

Our seventh visit. The Rote Wand feels like a second home. Just having returned, we are already looking forward to next year.
