The 6 Best Rooftop Restaurants & Bars In Dallas 2024

"Yes, the Round-Up’s rooftop overlooks a parking lot, but it’s still a great place to watch drag queens stepping out of GMC trucks and everybody heading to the bars and clubs along Cedar Springs. It’s also a nice option for fresh air after rounds of tequila sodas in the main saloon area. Make some conversation with out-of-towners swinging by to see the iconic Dallas gay bar for themselves or the cowboy boot-wearing bears who crushed their line dancing routine. If you hear about people two-stepping to Charli XCX downstairs though, you should probably head inside and join them. " - gabe bergado

Round-Up Saloon - Review - Oak Lawn - Dallas - The Infatuation

"No place screams gay Dallas more than the Round-Up Saloon. Opened back in 1980, the queer honky-tonk bar is where sequin-clad drag queens, bedazzled cowboy boots, and the city’s LGBTQ+ community come together for cheap tequila sodas and line dancing under a disco ball. The main yeehaw action happens on the floor and newcomers can even stop by on weekdays for dance lessons ranging from beginner to Beyoncé-themed classes. Take a break from the studs by chilling upstairs on the rooftop patio or in the front room with pool tables. There’s ton of options for people-watching, whether it’s friends celebrating a birthday by dressing up as television villains or the flannel-wearing managers making sure nobody’s messily stumbling onto the dance floor." - Gabe Bergado

The 12 Best Gay Bars in Dallas - Eater Dallas

"Bask in Texas glory at this country-themed watering hole. The Round Up Saloon boasts a large dance floor, where guests can take free two-stepping lessons. Plus, Lady Gaga, Robyn, and Charli XCX have all made appearances at The Round-Up during Dallas stops on their tours." - Amy McCarthy, Alex Gonzalez

"A gay country-dance club where everyone is welcome, this is one of the best places to dance in Dallas, whether you’re in work clothes or drag. Early in the evening, there are very serious two-steppers on the floor, but the moment it’s 10:30 p.m., contemporary music comes on and the dance floor is flooded. "

This visit took place several years ago, so I will preface my review with that. It was fairly busy on a Saturday night with most of the music being top 40 dance mixes/pop music, however, the last 30 to 45 minutes the saloon played country music to close the bar. The gays did a demographic shift with some fleeing the dance floor while others who were waiting the entire night in cowboy hats and well worn wranglers bum rushed dance floor. A salt and pepper haired gentleman by the name of Sam was nice enough to teach me how two step while he led through the crowd. Great introduction to Dallas, Texas.

Google
Best gay country bar in Dallas. The drinks are good and reasonably priced. The staff is friendly and professional.

Google
Nice staff and the best bartender is Kurt . But the place has changed and they have a hard time keeping the bad people out. Ok until midnight then the drug crazed crowd comes in. Not safe in the bathrooms if you know what I, mean. So I, quit going there ! Also the gay strip has really gone down hill to. Sad!😔

Google
My Favorite Bar EVER! This place is everything. They played the best music, the drinks were super reasonably priced, and the dance floor was such a blast! The bartenders were amazing—so friendly and welcoming. Most places, the bartenders seem irritated or over it, but not here. They actually seemed happy to be there, and were so kind. Also, I recommend taking advantage of coat check. It was worth it. Already can’t wait to go back!

Google
I was genuinely surprised by my recent visit here. I ordered the same drink three times, from the same bartender, and noticed that each one was charged at a different price. When I politely brought it to their attention, I was ignored—no explanation, no correction. It’s disappointing to see this kind of inconsistency, especially without any transparency or accountability. I strongly encourage anyone visiting to double-check your receipts. A place like this should be upfront and consistent with pricing, and responsive when concerns are raised.

Google
Came down to see my brother..he took me here. I am not a gay man but this was just a cool fun atmosphere!!! All the bartenders fast good and nice and the shows funny and wired but go in with an open mind because if you don't...might as well just sit in a cave. The beer is cold and and the pool tables and in great condition..its a good Bar

I was so excited to celebrate my 21st birthday at Oaklawn, but now I regret it. I walked in through the back, had my ID scanned by a worker who wished me a happy birthday, which seemed nice. Later, a drunk girl overheard me talking about my birthday and burst into the restroom stall I was in while I was peeing to wish me happy birthday, which felt really weird (now looking back she probably wanted to put a face to her false accusations). Then, while waiting for karaoke, me and my friends were being escorted to the front to have our ID's checked AGAIN by workers and an officer. They closely inspected it and wished me a happy birthday again. After an hour, I left and returned, only to have a worker (white, redhead, pink face mask) wave me away repeating "bye" and accuse me of bragging about being underage in the restroom, which never happened (I'm assuming the overly intoxicated girl was a hater). I tried to explain and even offer proof (credit card, Instagram stories, pic of birth certificate), but he wouldn't let me speak and tried to call someone on me. I left feeling so humiliated and frustrated. It’s awful to be treated like this when I did nothing wrong. And if they thought I was underage then why would they let me stay before the second time they gave me a hard time. Won’t be coming back.

Just returned from visiting Dallas and was looking forward to going to a country bar. I was very disappointed overall! The name of the bar and the decor inside is country themed but that's where it ends. I was there on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday night and the total hours of country music played in those 3 nights was about 2 hours worth total for all 3 nights combined, the rest of the time was all dance/modern music you can hear anywhere else. The guys at the front door were friendly, the bar staff were not great, especially the "no personality" guys at the bar next to the pool tables and tequila bar-they were more interested in playing on their cell phones than working. If I was the management Id fire them immediately for sure! The bar staff at the other areas of the bar weren't much friendlier. Overall it was a "meh" experience, I'd be in no hurry to ever go back. It wasn't the "country" bar I thought it would be! Some other reviews I read mentioned this bar used to be way better (more country music) a long time ago....I'd tend to believe those reviews now that I was there in person.

Yelp
A hootin' and hollerin' good time! I took my mom here (her first gay bar) and she was delighted by the graceful cowboys twirling on the dance floor and the boisterous crowd singing karaoke. Word to the wise: purses have to be VERY small in order to bring them in.

Yelp
Awesome drinks Awesome service Awesome ambiance and beautiful men. I love this place. It is the perfect Friday or Saturday night place to go

Yelp
Very Fun and Welcoming! 6 bars in the saloon?! Count me in! The music, the line dancing, the friendliness of the bartenders was amazing. I was in town for state and decided to check out the Gay Scene in Dallas and I was impressed. Definitely a spot to visit every time I am in town

Yelp
If you're in town, an ALLY and ready for a fun night out... this is the spot. No if's, and's, or but's.. get changed and GO. Great music, cheap drinks, and lots of friendly and fun people. 10/10

Yelp
Best/safest feeling spot in Dallas to go out to! The surrounding area has a lot of bars, but this is by far the coolest/most fun one. Love the dancefloor, the disco ball is so fun. They have good drinks, bartenders work fast and are nice. I would definitely come back when I am back in town!

Yelp
Used to love this place, great vibe always had a good time. Now they charge for WATER. Our DD tried to order a water and was told they only offer bottle water which you have to pay for. Absolutely ridiculous. They sell so much liquor but won't even give someone a free ice water to make sure they get everyone home safely. Crazy

Yelp
We had SO much fun here! We ate at streets fine chicken and headed over here to play billiards.... It was super slow and I was concerned it may be too slow of a vibe. Thankfully that changed quickly! After three rounds of pool, we headed over to the bar area by the entrance and they were doing karaoke. I was so excited because I love karaoke and of course in the gayborhood you have the best company ever since it's just a really great, fun vibe for everyone. The singers were incredible. Honestly you would have thought it was some audition for americas got talent or something with how good everyone was! I wish there was an area like this closer to where I live (I'm a little over an hour away) bc it would be so fun to go daydrinking and hang out all day.

Yelp
Round Up Saloon's Drag Queen Bingo is a must-visit for anyone looking for a fun and unique Sunday afternoon. The best part? The bingo event was free to play, and the prizes were alcohol drinks! The atmosphere was electric, especially with Raquel as a hostess (she was a scream -- loved her). It was a fun crowd, the drinks were strong, and the Drag show was top-notch. The staff was friendly and accommodating, making sure everyone had a great time.

Yelp
This is my go to for an amazing night! The drinks are good. The ambience is fun! They do line dancing then at about 12 am it becomes a night club and the fun begins

Yelp
Great bar ! Visited here while on vacation. Country music was played up until about midnight, as everyone line danced:) Then top 100 music for the rest of the night, ranging from reggaeton/ rap/hip hop/pop. Bartender cowboy Mario was on point with his service. Definitely a must visit in the gayborhood of Oaklawn.
google avatar

Lisa B.

Yelp
So fun - dance lessons a few drinks and the an awesome drag show Not to mention drink prices are great
google avatar

Yelp
I walked out. Sat at a bar with 14 other customers most of who had drinks. The bartender walked by me at least a dozen times. Didn't look at me or acknowledge me. After minutes I left. Apparently, the money is pouring in so much that they don't have to be attentive to their customers. Visiting from out of town. It's a crap representation of the hospitality Texans tout.

Jason C.

Yelp
It's not country anymore. Sad! It used to be filled with alot of guys in wranglers, cinches and hats and cowboy hats. The younger croud has taken over oaklawn and it looks like the roundup as well.

Yelp
I hate to give a bad review to any business from the community. however, sometimes, I think is just right. I have guests visiting from San Francisco and London, Friday night, they decide to go to the roundup . the friend from London heard so much about that place, and he was so looking forward to see it. they arrived to the bar at 9PM, the big clown on the door, big guy, bearded, may think he work for the FBI or something, but, he asked for IDs , and I am totally ok with that , its should be that way for our own safety. my friend from SF show him the ID, my sec friend from Dallas had an ID, my friend from London, sadly have a Pic of his passport, common, who want to cary a passport to a bar? in case he loose it and he will not be able to travel, so he toke a pic of it. the "super" security ( who I saw him before making out with guys in the front door ( and that is safety ) did not agree to let him in, now, my friend is not a 20 years old, he is 56, meaning, if its an age issue, come on, he is a. silver hair man, if its a policy , ok, I get its but he have a phot ID on his phone, what is the issue ? he is visiting from the UK, come one , use a common sense . this is not right. we go there very often, and we like the place. I just think if you hire someone to be in the door. maybe make sure he got a better attitude and common sense . been a big man, don't make you a good security guy. very disappointed

Yelp
Always love going here with my friends. Such a good vibe but giving 3 stars instead of 5 because of a rude bartender. Not sure how he landed this job cause you would think you'd receive good energy here but not from this guy. (photo attached) Much love for this place but this guy is not a fit. Maybe he was having a bad night or maybe he's just rude but either way - when I wait in line for 10+ minutes, and see him scan the bar asking if anyone needs a drink while I stand there and motion I need one, I kid you not, this man looked me in my eyes and said "I see you" sarcastically and smile and look away instead of taking my order. Before that, we were in the middle of the computers between him and another bartender and according to him it was out of his way to take an order from anyone in the middle so you were forced to squeeze in front of his computer cause I guess taking 2 steps over to hear someone's order was too much to ask. Super odd. From working in the hospitality industry I understand the asshole customers, but I'm not one of them and he chose to treat me like I was an inconvenience. Love you Round Up, but that that guy needs a reality check.

Yelp
Their door-men are illiterate as fuck. Had a friend present 3 forms of id. And the hollow brained no mask wearing back door gorilla said they require a "physical" ID. Maybe they should grab a dictionary and change their vocabulary because it really felt more like discrimination rather policy. Will not return to that monkey pox pit.

Yelp
PSA: If you are a beautiful woman or just a woman in general I strongly suggest that you avoid Round-Up Saloon. I visited Round-Up Saloon for the 1st time on Tuesday, 11/14/23. My 2 gay male colleagues joined me. The bar staff treated me very poorly. The male bartender intentionally looked passed me & served everyone else around me. After I waived my hands for assistance, the bartender proceeded to ignore me & serve other customers that had just arrived at the bar. I verbally request a manager but the bartender refused to get one. He mentioned that he just came from a concert he was volunteering to help out. I noticed a man that appeared to have authority so I approached him & asked if he was a manager. The man said yes but once I explained what occurred he rudely replied "go to another bar". I was taken aback, I thought to myself "am I really being discriminated against for being a beautiful woman in a "gay" bar?" Even my gay colleagues observed the way I (me specifically) was being treated. Although there were other bars inside Round-Up Saloon, I didn't want to be there any longer after poor disrespectful treatment. The staff made me feel unwelcome & extremely uncomfortable. I was singled out because of who I am. This was not one of those situations when a bartender might stop serving an overly intoxicated person drinks. It was more personal than that. I find it interesting how the LGBT community doesn't want to be discriminated against yet members of the LGBT community are sometimes quick to discriminate against others like in this instance. Beautiful women: PLEASE be advised! This is a WARNING!

Yelp
Its fun to be at a bar, where one can start dancing as a group ;) That's exactly what happened at this place while we were visiting with some friends back in 2016! Our friends moved to Texas so we decided to visit them. One evening we decided for bar hopping. Started drinking at one bar then went to this place - 'Round-Up Saloon' This is how old styles saloons look like. Lots of place to dance around with drinks served through out the bar. We ordered couple of drinks then decided to dance. But then all of sudden everyone decided to follow certain set of steps and we all started to follow their lead. And within couple of minutes it seemed like we were performing as a group. It was fun since it was impromptu with no rehearsals whatsoever. Amazing place. Would love to visit again soon! :)

Yelp
I have lived in Dallas for 6 years and never had a bad experience at Round up. It's welcoming to everyone and their sexuality. I don't have anything bad to say But if you read the reviews someone then aren't as positive either with employee issues(Karen's not getting their way because they aren't getting special treatment- It's a BAR and a Gay bar at that)

Yelp
We got turned away because I had my service dog. The door guy asked for her documentation which I'm not legally required to carry. He's also not legally required to ask for it. But he turned me away anyway.

Yelp
I have been coming to Cedar Springs for 2 decades. Went in on Halloween in my mandalorian costume, no problem... went to several other bars... when I came back... they denied me... because I had a toy light saber. I asked to speak to a manager... when he came down... He said I couldn't come in with a weapon... I told him it was Halloween, and that this was not a weapon... I asked him if I could leave it with one of the bartenders that I knew... He said no... He said I could leave it at the front door with no supervision.(HA!) But he wouldn't be responsible for it... It's a $400 light saber... I told him no... And I said, thanks for ruining my Halloween... He said you're welcome then turned around and walked away... so i left. What an a hole. I went to several of the other bars and no one had a problem with it but this guy. What a joke of a manager to not find a solution... he was 1/2 my age, no people skills, and quite frankly just rude.... bad customer service... I would give them a negative one, if I could. Makes you not want to come out on a weeknight for Halloween anymore. Thanks Round Up for hiring people that make your experience so enjoyable.

Lee G.

Yelp
I recently was in Dallas and went to the Round-Up. I have friends that live in Dallas and I visit there quite often. I don't often write bad reviews about businesses, but I was so angry about my experience that I just had to let people and the business know. Me, my partner and some friends went to have a quick bite to eat at Hunky's down the street (I ordered a slice of cake to take home) and afterwards, we thought we would go back to the roundup to have one last drink. As we were walking in my friends reminded us that we had to show our ID and before we could even pull them out the guy checking IDs said you can bring that in here you will have to eat it before you come in. First of all his attitude was UNACCEPTABLE! Second it was a very small bag that was stapled shut and lastly I hadn't even showed it to him! My friends were also a bit shocked and I felt as though it may have been a racial thing, because I was the only African American in my group. I would like to think that wasn't the case, but that was my gut feeling at the time. The round up has plenty of signage out side that says what you can and can not bring in, but nothings about a very small bag (or cake). I am sharing this experience because I feel people should know. I am also sharing it on other platforms (Facebook, Twitter etc.) here are some pictures of the signage displayed at the Round Up.

Yelp
Overall, Round-Up is a lot of fun. A nice, Texas themed gay bar in the heart of the Cedar Springs strip. First off, compared to just about anything else in Cedar Springs, the place is huge! I counted 7 bars between inside and outside. So there's never much of a wait to get a drink (although I've never seen all 7 open at once). They have a big dance floor in the middle, a ground level patio out back and a rooftop patio which is great for aviation geeks like me to watch planes taking off from Love Field. The staff is always pretty cool. They pour a good drink and are no more or less expensive than anywhere else on the strip. It's worth keeping an eye on their events, too. They're also the starting point for the monthly Cedar Springs wine walk, which is a blast. Definitely a staple of this neighborhood.

Geoff I.

Yelp
The description of weekly events provided above by Alan - did not match my recent experience over TBR weekend, in March 2023. ZERO country music................and I'm sorry, line dancing to popular sings is just plain wrong and hard on the eyes to watch. They have this dumb rule- several of the people dancing were wearing jockstraps or bare- assed underwear- and the bar made them wear thongs underneath their jock straps. You can't imagine how stupid these men looked..........but that's the Roundup's policy.............. I've been visiting Dallas for about twenty years- and prior to 2023 - I've always had a good time there - with good CW music........in fact the first time I heard Rascal Flatts was in the Roundup.......... I was so disappointed last weekend at both the Texas Bear Roundup and how much the Roundup Saloon has declined.

Yelp
Good vibes, no judgement, and always accommodating to the guest's needs / wants. I'd recommend it.

Yelp
Rude. I am not a picky person, and I can understand the rules and expectations of individual establishments and people. My sister and a group of girls went out to celebrate her birthday. My sister did dance kind of wildly, but instead of approaching us appropriately and asking her to stop, he yelled at her, "NO, DOWN". As if she were a dog. He said it several times. As well as other commands yelled in a broken and aggressive way. After he "barked" at my sister we began to leave and were escorted out by a "security guard" who followed closely and forcefully behind us. Our friend that was with us tried to explain the situation and he grabbed her finger and broke her nail. I said, "we're leaving, it's ok," to which my cousin said, "yeah we wanted to leave anyway because your coworker just called my cousin a 'whore'," which he did. He then said he had to follow us out anyway. After we exited the building, I told him we were out and he was good. We stood in front of the building for a maximum of thirty seconds before a separate male told us we couldn't stand there and waved us off of the porch. The way it was approached was unprofessional, inhumane, and judgmental.

Yelp
I came in on a Monday evening as I was traveling cross country and had an evening to spend in Dallas. This evening they had a drag queen doing a strip-tease competition and afterwards they had opened the floor for line dancing and swing as a country bar. They also had karaoke as they apparently have nightly at the front bar. The atmosphere here was very accepting and there was so much fun to be had on the dance floor with a small crowd (expected for a Monday late evening). Looking forward to the next time I can visit.

Yelp
Honestly, I am an avid fan of this bar... however, I am TIRED. FULL STOP TIIIIRED of staff being fucked up. Having understood the service industry... I know it sucks to be working for so long. BUUUUT, get it together! Like at the end of the day, y'all all really finna be that drunk? From the bartenders, to the damn karaoke host? So much where even if the karaoke man is getting tipped, he has no idea what it going on? Honestly, I'd rather go to Sue Ellen's... honestly it's a better spot. Like gay women where ya at. Cause round up it's straight trash... disappointing. This whole bar by 1:00am is going to be rude, clueless and rather be anywhere the hell else.

Yelp
Had been looking forward to this place for my birthday for a whole week as I was coming from another state with my best friend . Her and I were having a blast first couple of hours bartenders , drag queens, and music was on point . That is UNTIL JOE arrived and would become our new bartender. From the second he got there his whole vibe was negative in an off putting way. I had been paying the same amount for 1 corona and mixed drink the whole night and once he took my order he wanted to charge me over $20. I told him I wasn't going to be paying that much and he proceeded to tell me "well then you shouldn't be here." Ripped the ticket in my face and told the security to "Get them out of here" while security aggressively grabbed me and my friend mind you us being females in our mid 20s and waaay smaller than them I asked the African American bouncer "why are you pushing us out ?" and he responded "idk but you Fucked up with joe so you gotta go" I tried to explain to him what happened and he pushed me even harder and once I was almost out the front door he Then MACED my friend and I and slammed the door shut in our face. If anyone wants to have a great time i advise you PLEASE take your money to Mr. Misster you won't regret it. I was treated like an actual human being there and will definitely be back. ***this all occurred the night of Feb 7th anywhere from 7 to 9pm can't really recall the exact time but check the cameras if you'd***
google avatar

Luis H.

Yelp
I have been there several times and I have enjoyed myself. We went and celebrated my birthday and we were asked to leave because a certain employee felt threatened by someone in my party.I asked for an explanation and all they couldn't give me as one employee felt threatened and never gave me an explanation but it like they were unsafe.... I totally understand that but explain yourself... so we can understand... and even apologize and move on but we didn't get that chance. The person that got kicked out was a first time person and was having a good time celebrating my birthday'. If that's how we treat my straight friends I don't approve!! If we had the chance to correct whatever behavior that was not permitted we would still be supportive.... This ione make us sad.... If this how first time supporters and loves are treated then then we will never have support. It's a sad day for us!

Yelp
I had a terrible experience tonight. I've been to this bar so many times and I feel like it's my home bar. I was standing not far from the DJ booth and the guy told me I was standing too close to him. The bar is very busy that night and I told him I was OK where is that but he calls the police on me and had to close to him. Not to be honest with you, I told him that was bullshit. But that did not matter and he proceeeded to have me removed. It will difficult for me to go back without an apology.

Yelp
Used to come to this place regularly as I live in the area and have been a patron for years. However after the extremely rude experience with Shane who is a pitiful excuse for a manager, I will not return and I'm going to share my experience with everyone I know especially since I live walking distance to this place. Shane is a complete and total liar and should be fired before this place loses more business due to his unethical behavior.

Mel V.

Yelp
Great bar and environment always feel safe here and around the bar. Excellent service and music! Highly recommend!

Yelp
While we love and respect this place and their goals, I keep seeing bar tendets wearing "chin" masks. Look, that does not count. At least your employees can do better. Wear Your Mask. Even though it is very difficult to control the crowd, your paid employees should follow all guidelines. This is what brings us back at our own risk. Please do better and don't fall to Capitolism pressure. Dead people don't pay thier tabs or your bills. During the Circus show, No drinks on the floor. I will not take a picture now. Please do right thats why we vote.
google avatar

Jared H.

Yelp
Drinks: Overpriced -- hella overpriced. Mood: Cramped Spaces, No Seating, Rudeness Abounded -- Staff included. Bartenders have been very rude to me here because I don't look a certain way, yet when a "cowboy" with a beard and a hat steps up, they're licking his boots faster than they can spin around. I used to recommend this place to people, but after all the Lady Gaga sensation and bloated egos about DFW bars being the la-di-da of the South (way better bars in New Orleans, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, you name it -- this is definitely not the best) and I am fully over this one. Woody's is about the only bar I'll go to left, and they hit capacity so fast now, it isn't even worth it to venture down anymore -- especially not when parking is a commodity, and parking in the wrong spot can get you towed or worse.
google avatar

Thomas M.

Yelp
For a gay bar, they certainly lack tolerance... I've had a non-binary friend and a trans friend kicked out for using the "wrong" restroom... It's backwards in any establishment but certainly in a gay bar. They called security on both as well, honestly disgusting but at the least tone deaf in Oak Lawn.

Yelp
I visited Dallas this week with my partner and was thrilled to take him to Round Up on our last night since I'd had such a wonderful experience when I visited 3 years ago. But within 5 minutes of walking in the door (no exaggeration) we heard something horrible over the sound system: a drag queen hosting the boots and boxer briefs contest on a rant about "FTMs" (trans men) grossing her out and not being "real boys." This kind of transphobia is shocking and unacceptable anywhere, but especially in an LGBTQ establishment. As a gay trans man, I know that I'm not everyone's cup of tea. But hearing it from a date is one thing--hearing it from a host/performer in a community-oriented bar is another. Trans people are everywhere; we are valuable members of the LGBTQ community, and the bar owners need to speak with their performers about not alienating their clientele. 2 stars because everyone else was kind and respectful. But my night was really derailed by this encounter. Round-Up saloon left a bad taste in my mouth, and not in the fun way.

Yelp
Great people and such a friendly place. We hope to come back again. (Long drive from Alaska lol)

Yelp
Very fun and welcoming! This place is huge. Drinks are good prices. Good music! Huge dance floor, several different bars open. Outdoor patio.

Yelp
Only one suggestion: this place needs professional dancers who will dance with people who cannot find a dancing partner; and who can pump up the dance crowd. Other than that, this place is great! Upon walking into the place you feel welcomed by the staff. All the door people, and bartenders made us feel like locals, and although we don't live in Dallas, (we're from Los Angeles), we felt like it could be our hometown bar. We never waited for a drink more than one or two people in line, because this place has so many bars to get a drink from. The country music being played was sweet and gave us that warm fuzzy feeling. The patrons who we came in contact with were all very friendly and polite. If you like rugged manly men, this place is the spot. They've come to this spot in spades. You might be thinking you need to dress like a cowboy to come to this place; you don't. You would feel 100% comfortable in a cowboy hat and boots, but we saw guys in dress shoes, tennis shoes, t-shirts, sweaters, whatever. Most men wore jeans of some sort. This place is mostly gay men. Overall, this place was great. This is one of the best gay bars in the entire USA, even if you don't like country music. Like the Abby Bar in Los Angeles, this place is an absolute must!

Yelp
It is your run-of-the-mill gay bar. The staff seems decent and the drinks are average. Not a very expensive night out and the show is great. Plenty of space to walk around and convenient for meeting people before going out for the whole night.

Yelp
Canned all drag shows with no notice to the entertainers. These hard working people that carried them through the pandemic are being replaced with... pool tables and a quarter machine. I'm shocked because the owners have a better reputation than this.

Yelp
Coming back to Dallas, I have always looked forward to the Round-Up. While it's still a great venue, I'm disappointed the owners have apparently decided to charge a $10 cover fee just to get in. In years past (when I lived here), the only time I remember cover fees being charged was during a charity event. Now it's simply the price of admission. And it's the price you pay for the privilege just to come in then buy drinks to further profits. I'm all about a gay bar making money and thus stay viable. But this seems excessive and takes the charm off the place for me.

Yelp
I love this place, but it has an agenda. People are too afraid to interact, everyone prefers to keep to themselves. But besides that, once you have your group, it's fun. It helps to drink a little then go talk to people. Also 4 starts because the bathrooms are not nice, and they get really crowded!

Yelp
It had been years since I've been to the Round Up until this past Tuesday. My friends and I went in around 10pm. It wasn't crowded at all, but hell it was a Tuesday! I forgot how big this place is. We hung out in the karaoke room for a bit. It's just a small room with a stage, and a bar that takes up a good portion of the middle of the room. I never realized how pretty that room is. They have black old fashioned looking tiles on the ceiling, and beautiful stained glass wall hangings, and really pretty light fixtures hanging above the bar. There's a huge dance floor in another room with plenty room around that to stand around and watch the people dancing. They were doing some sort of line dancing tutorial when we were there. I think I remember seeing a pool table room and maybe an upstairs area. ? I'd been drinking some! hehe There's an outdoor patio that's pretty cool if you like cigarette smoke. Ugh. I noticed some windows that opened up to the bar inside so that's neat if you don't want to go back inside while you're on the patio. And the patio definitely had an upstairs area. If you're in to country music, pop music, karaoke or a good time...this is a good spot!

Yelp
It was initially fun but they have this massive dance floor that is apparently only for the same 3 or 4 couples to show off on. I get that two-stepping is something you should expect but at one point a really upbeat song came on and there was only 2 couples on the floor so 3 of us were dancing around on the edge of the floor and were told to get off. Everyone was packed in there like sardines dancing to them self along the wall outside the dance floor since they have the whole dance floor in the middle exclusively for two-stepping despite the beat of the song. I don't think that's what the people want but they've been told this is how it is. I saw the same 6 men on the floor the whole time when I'm sure a lot of other people would have enjoyed dancing together in the middle when the more dancey songs came on. I get it that there's clubs all on the street if you want to dance in a mosh but they have the set up to have an in-between every few songs and it's just wasted. There's absolutely no where to dance unless you're two-stepping which frankly a lot of people don't want to do. A lot of people don't want to club but would love to dance with their friends to an upbeat country song every few songs. I don't know who runs what but it felt very personal interest. Other than that everyone seemed to be having a good time but it's nothing to call home about. More of an older crowd but still a decent mix. It's like 75% good but they don't have any competition so they don't try to do better.

Yelp
Went in for the Karaoke bar. It was a fun atmosphere to enter. Bartender migrated to my direction. Just curious to know about the beers on draft and mentions the one I can't entirely see well. None of the other options up there are honestly something I'm truly fond of except for this Hoppadillo Brew I have never tried. I asked for a sample because some IPA's can definitely be too hoppy. Bartender goes: This isn't Baskin Robins (or some bullshit like that). "It's what my manager told me to tell you all" Then I ask how hoppy it really is (looking for a comparison to some other kind of brew). Bartender: It's Hoppy... says it in it's name... it's not that big of a commitment. Boyfriend and I found it easier to just leave than to deal with a not-so-friendly Round Up bartender.

Yelp
I just love this place, not only you can dance your favorite country music but meet so many different people. The ambience is calm and everyone is pretty descent. I would recommend this place anytime as one of my favorites compared to any other club in Dallas.
