Classic sliders, birch beer & breakfast served 24 hours

"Dating back to 1938, this burger institution started by selling 15-cent hamburgers and grew to more than 200 locations across Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, and Ohio before the chain liquidated in the 1970s after a franchise scheme went badly; James N. Brimberry, the first Black employee and a district manager at the time, purchased seven stores, sold six, and kept the Miami location, managing it for several years and operating it with his grandson until they sold it in 2023. Currently marked “temporarily closed” with a disconnected phone, it remains a piece of Miami history that many hope will stage another comeback." - Laine Doss
"Coming in at ten minutes, this is the longest walk on our Metrorail tour, but it’s a straight shot east on NW 79th Street. Royal Castle is a fast food joint that’s been around since 1958 and once had over 150 locations. This is the last one left. It's open 24/7 and has a basic breakfast menu, some sandwiches, and (what they’re famous for) tasty sliders they sell in “six packs”." - virginia otazo, ryan pfeffer
"Royal Castle has been around since 1958. Back then, the Miami-born concept was a successful chain with over 150 locations around the American south. Today, there’s only one left and thankfully it’s still in Miami (Gladeview, specifically). The Royal Castle of today looks like a fast-food restaurant from the outside but feels more like a simple neighborhood diner inside. It has pancakes, a T-bone steak, and a really good patty melt. But what they’re famous for are the sliders. you can order them in “six-packs” with some pretty good crinkle-cut fries. And there’s no rule against having sliders for breakfast. We checked." - ryan pfeffer, virginia otazo
"Royal Castle used to be a really popular chain, but now there’s only one left. Luckily, it’s right here in west Little River and it’s open 24/7. Despite the fact that it used to be part of a corporate behemoth, this place still feels like a neighborhood diner. And they still serve the delicious slider six-packs that made them famous. Even though the menu is pretty big - with all-day breakfast and a T-bone steak - we always go for those soft little mini-burgers." - ryan pfeffer

Today though, there’s only one left and thankfully it’s still in Miami. The Royal Castle of today (which reopened at the beginning of 2024 under new ownership) looks like a fast-food restaurant from the outside. But it feels more like a simple neighborhood diner inside. You can order them in “six-packs” with or without some pretty good crinkle-cut fries. The mini burgers have soft buns, thin patties, diced onions, a pickle, melted american cheese, and are good enough to make you understand why this place used to be such a success." - Ryan Pfeffer
