"Dating back to 1938, this burger institution started by selling 15-cent hamburgers and grew to more than 200 locations across Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, and Ohio before the chain liquidated in the 1970s after a franchise scheme went badly; James N. Brimberry, the first Black employee and a district manager at the time, purchased seven stores, sold six, and kept the Miami location, managing it for several years and operating it with his grandson until they sold it in 2023. Currently marked “temporarily closed” with a disconnected phone, it remains a piece of Miami history that many hope will stage another comeback." - Laine Doss
