Where to Find Melty, Cheesy Fondue in Portland

"This chandelier-lit French market and restaurant pours mimosas to serve with Dungeness crab Benedicts on the weekends, while evenings involve classics like cordon bleu and steak frites. During dinner service, the restaurant serves its fondue for two with crudite, apples, and baguette, best paired with the restaurant’s charcuterie board." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Traveling Pop-Up Karen’s Diner Is a Misguided Servers’ Revenge Fantasy - Eater Portland

"Australia-based traveling pop-up Karen’s Diner is taking things to a level nobody asked for, as the terrible service gag meets the very real meme of the entitled, usually affluent, and always wanting to speak to the manager Karen. On October 7 and 8, Karen’s Diner will take over Portland’s Rue Cler Marketplace on Southeast Milwaukie Avenue. The gist: Rude staff take hapless diners to task, flipping the typical the-customer-is-always-right dynamic." - Paolo Bicchieri

The Best French Restaurants in Portland, Oregon - Eater Portland

"This chandelier-lit marketplace, bar, restaurant, and cafe is named for a street in Paris in the 7th arrondissement, emphasizing the multicultural nature of the bustling avenue. Brunches of cedar-smoked salmon Benedicts and Chantilly-dolloped French toast lead into lunches of moules frites and croque monsieur, followed by dinners of filet mignon or chicken cordon bleu. But any given visit may also involve tuna poke, chorizo egg scrambles, or zeppole, true to the global feel of the vendors on the real Rue Cler." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden, Katrina Yentch

Brunch brings fancy Benedicts crowned with filet mignon or cedar-smoked salmon, while during lunch or dinner tables may hold classic dishes like salad Nicoise, moules frites, or chicken cordon bleu. Southeast Portland’s Rue Cler Wants to Be the Spot for Leisurely Brunches and Grocery Shopping - Eater Portland

"On the Rue Cler in Paris, vendors sell flowers and crepes out of stalls. Cafes pour lattes and cafe au lait into mugs the size of your head, sipped on outdoor tables with a croissant on the side. Tourists pop into Ladurée for rose-cardamom macarons, while locals shop for groceries at the fromagerie and la Sablaise." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

May, 2024 We enjoyed a lovely anniversary dinner here, starting with a warm welcome when we arrived. The restaurant is in an airy space decorated with paintings on the walls and an assortment of interesting chandeliers. Seating is diverse, ranging from comfortable coffee tables to banquettes and a more traditional french cafe style area Our meal included fresh bread with a good wine, tasty crab cakes on a bed of arugula, chicken cordon bleu, salad nicoise, and a flourless chocolate torte. I particularly liked the salad because unlike traditional nicoise prepared with canned tunafish, this one included a generous portion of seared ahi and some roasted Brussels sprouts. Service was prompt and helpful. It looks like they could still use another wait-person as they get busier. Recommended.

We recently discovered Rue Cler for brunch and it is rapidly becoming a favourite. The atmosphere is charming and relaxed, with gorgeous decor. We've had Omelette, Eggs Benedict and the French Toast. All of them have had lovely presentation and been absolutely delicious. Stop by and enjoy good vibes and good food!

Had a wonderful time at dinner tonight. Really friendly service. Lovely setting and decorations. We had the crimini mushroom dish and duck fat fries for appetizers, which were amazing. We had oysters with the most delicious strawberry compote, and steak for mains. Both perfectly presented and delicious. Finished up with the stoat chocolate cake and a cheesecake to die for. Definitely recommend & we will be back.

I had a wonderful experience here. My service was excellent and very personal and kind. The woman that owns this establishment also cooked my food and we chatted. Very elegant atmosphere. Food was top notch and the staff really made the whole dining experience warm and inviting to the point I can't wait to try their brunch and dinner menu. I had the mushroom small plate to start and the pork chop special. It was absolutely delicious. I'm excited for the market place to open so I have yet another reason to return.

We stopped in for brunch this morning and had a really great experience. The atmosphere is charming, the food and cocktails were delicious, and the server (maybe an owner?) was warm, funny and attentive. We'll go back!

What a wonderful place! We stumbled upon Rue Cler while looking for a lunch option, and had an exceptional experience. Everything we ordered (drinks and cocktails) was delicious and thoughtfully prepared, and the service could not have been better. Really glad we found this place, and we will certainly come back!

I want to love this place. It has a great menu and charming atmosphere but after 4-5 visits, it’s just a disappointment. The food and drink is great but typically the service is very slow and food often comes out cold and very late. On the most recent visit, one person of our party of four didn’t receive their food until the rest of us had already finished eating. I’ve seen the owner/chef berate the staff in front of customers which is very unsettling to me. It has happened on two separate occasions to two different people so doesn’t seem like an isolated incidence. Nobody should be humiliated in from Given the location, it should be packed like the other nearby establishments but is typically eerily empty. I live in the neighborhood and really was hoping this place would be a thriving establishment that many enjoy but I doubt I will be going back. The lack of customer service and poor management will keep me away. I hope they can figure it out because it does seem to have a lot of potential but the customer service is truly lacking.
