Ruki’s Kitchen Is Coming to Switchman Hall at Terminal South - Eater Atlanta

"Ruki’s Kitchen will offer four entree plate combinations, with steak, chicken, salmon tibs, and vegetable options. Lemma left the corporate world to found Ruki’s Kitchen in 2021, and started a residency at East Atlanta Village’s Qommunity Food Hall in 2022. In 2023, Ruki’s Kitchen received a grant from the Heinz Black Kitchen Initiative. On February 29, Ruki’s Kitchen, along with pop-up Tony’s Chicago Beef, was suddenly ousted from Qommunity Food Hall in East Atlanta Village. Ruki’s Kitchen currently has residencies at Tonearm in Decatur (Thursdays to Saturdays from 4-10 pm) and Punk Foodie’s Ponce City Market outpost (Sundays from 11-8 pm)." - Sarra Sedghi

Google
I gave him all fives for a reason. With the exception of the salmon tips being cooked fresh to order the food was damn amazing. I didn’t agree with the portion sizes for the veggie plate for the price paid but for the price of the Salmon tibs I was very pleased. I do plan to order again in person. This environment is one spot with 3different restaurants sharing a space. It’s really a very good experience to enjoy.

If you’re looking at another place just stop and go here! Rukis has a quality that many places have given up on. I had the veggie platter and my husband had the Sega tibs combo. As you can see we demolished.

Google
Food was delicious and the spice blend was perfect. Not too spicy but just enough to make you want another bite and tingle your lips! Guys running the food stand outside the Eastern were super friendly too!

Google
Got the veggie platter which was delicious, especially the cabbage. Also appreciated the outdoor seating option. Only request would be a fan outside to deter flies, but understand that Ruki’s is one tenant in a larger food hall so might be out of their hands.

Google
The reviews don't lie; this place is 5 stars across the board. Exceptional food, quality service, and a relaxed environment. We went as a party of six and enjoyed food and drinks well into the place's closing time. The staff were great and super friendly. The bar had great drinks that were delicious and left us wanting more. The food can be classified as Ethiopian fusion with seasoning that maintains authenticity while also not being too spicy. If you're in the area or considering this place, I'd strongly recommend giving it a try; it'll be worth it!

Google
Really great food! It is in a small food hall with shared dining space. You order at the counter and the girl that took our order and the owner were both so kind. We will be going back!!

Google
Food is delicious and the staff is so friendly!! Had the opportunity to try this delicious food at Pullman Yards and would recommend

Google
Amazing food, injera, very friendly staff. It’s a shared kitchen space with other businesses but there was enough seating. Would definitely go there again!

Yelp
Ruki's is no longer at the Church street location, but they are doing pop ups at various establishments until their permanent location opens. I found out through social media that they would be at a brewery not too far from me and decided to stop by. I arrived at Sceptre Brewery Arts in Eastlake and placed my order at the bar. I had no idea they had a full bar and will have to stop back by to check them out. I ordered sega tibs with gomen and a side of turmeric basmati rice. I picked up my food from the owner of Ruki's and he was very pleasant. The food smelled SO good and it was hard not to dig in before I got home. The food was exceptional and flavored to perfection. I've only had Ethiopian food a handful of times before this, but this may be the best I've ever had. I enjoyed the food so much and look forward to trying more dishes from them.

Yelp
Phenomenal I've had quite a few great Ethiopian food experiences here in the Atlanta area but let me tell y'all bout Ruki's!!! I knew it was going to be good off the bat because the injera had such a rich dark color (doesn't look as dark in the pics) which let me know it was straight up teff and not watered down. Many of the other Ethiopian restaurants I've been to water down or mix in other flours to make the injera more palatable to the American palette or because it's cheaper, but not Ruki's! And I so appreciate that. Don't water anything down either you can take it or can't. So anyways yea the injera was everything and I ended up ordering the vegetarian plate, which came with gomen (collard greens), cabbage and some lentils. I just wrote a whole paragraph about the injera lmaooo so you know the accompanying food was banging! Top notch, the best Ethiopian food I've had in a while! Ruki's is currently operating as a pop-up so be sure to check their Ig @rukiskitchenatl to see when and where they will be. Even as a pop up service was great. Both server and owner came out to help and inquire about the food. I am 100% a fan and will continue to support them as they grow and expand as long as they don't compromise on that flavor!

Yelp
I checked them out at breaker breaker when they had an all June Monday night popup. We stumbled upon it and tried their dry and wet chicken wings. Both were cooked to perfection, crunchy and paired with a super nice spicy sauce. I loved their dry wings with Ethiopian spice. Do try it!

Yelp
Great customer service! Just discovered this EAV hidden gem, while walking on Flat Shoals. The restaurant is located in a co-op type of set up with multiple cuisines, bench table, seating, and artwork throughout. The current offerings were from Ruki's Ethiopian, a vendor with poke bowls and adjacent Mexican restaurant. I selected the Sega tibs combo with a side of Mesir (red lentils), and also ordered the vegetarian meal which included 4 vegetables. I chose more Mesir (red lentils - love them), Gomen (collard greens), Tikel, (cabbage and potatoes) & Fitfit (Njeri based - see menu for details). Sega consisted of beef cubes, a plethora of onions and delicious spices. Everything was excellent. Prepared to order, which allowed for observation of art work priced for sale and other vendors. The set up is small, but works for to go or dine in. Also enjoyed learning the backstory from the chef, who named restaurant after his mother. I also had the pleasure of seeing true kindness in action as the chef gave a coat and hat to a housing challenged man, on one of the coldest days in November.

Yelp
Very good! I remember when he was at the food hall in eav and everyone was saying great things about him!

Yelp
The food and service were both outstanding. The owner personally came over to our table to thank us for dining at his establishment and get feedback on his cuisine. This is authentic Ethiopian food and I will definitely recommend this restaurant to friends and family

Yelp
So glad to have some legit Ethiopian around Atlanta. Makes me miss DC! Perfect little spot inside the We Suki Suki foodhall. The chef was super kind and will prepare it to your desired spice level. Went with a bud and split a steak tibs dish with lentils + the four veggies dish. Excellent injera and super filling portions. Will be back here multiple times.

Yelp
Ruki's Kitchen serves up really solid Ethiopian food in this EAV foodhall spot! I had the veggie platter with injera. Their injera is really good, nice and tart like I like it. Their collards were especially standout. I think next time I'll ask for a little more spicy--you can technically adjust the spice level but since I didn't specify I think mine defaulted to mild. The guy cooking and serving was super nice and friendly, too.
google avatar

Ila C.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my meal. The vegetables were fresh and the chicken was delicious. I had tried Ethiopian before at one of ATL's most popular spots...and didn't really care for it. I decided to try it again given that Ruki's is in my neighborhood and was pleasantly surprised. Highly recommend! For any of you afraid of heat, you can request mild!
google avatar

Chris R.

Yelp
Food and service is top tier, the owner is is super cool and wants to give you an authentic experience in the middle of EAV! Come thru for top tier food!

Yelp
I am glad I decided to try the food even though I had just finish eating somewhere else. ... Don't judge me for having a greedy moment :) I gentleman behind the counter was so nice. He answered all of my questions. Disclaimer- I've only eaten Ethiopian one other time prior to this visit that was good. I'm thrilled to write I have found a spot I like. It took me a long time complete this review hoping I would find the pictures I think I took... Next time. Fingers crossed I'll remember before eating it all again. I had the greens. The bread. A beef dish with tomatoes. And something spicy. I WOULD HAVE OT ALL AGAIN AND TRY SOMETHING NEW:)

Bekah W.

Yelp
Amazing food and great customer service! We ordered takeout and loved the food. It is a good portion and I had enough for leftovers!

Lydia K.

Yelp
Love, love, loveeeeee this spot!!! I had the chicken tips first and my tastebuds went into overload!! The flavors were so mouthwatering and delicious!! The collards and rice were the perfect sides with the meal. I also tried the Injera, which was very good, and I could tell it was authentic; best I've had ever! I also tried the shrimp tips and LISTEN, 10/10 would highly recommend! Let's just say it's now my favorite!!! It's only available on Fridays and Saturdays, and it sells out so quickly, which makes sense!! I love the fact that it's in the heart of EAV! Ali's great and the customer service is superb! I'll definitely be returning to get my East African fix!

Yelp
We ordered the chicken and vegetarian platter. All of the spices were perfect! The injera was terrific.

Yelp
SO GOOD!! If you're not familiar with We suki suki, It's a small food hall, with different international food stalls. Probably my favorite food haul in Atlanta now, and the Ethiopian spot is an incredible addition to the varieties of food that's there. I had the veggie platter, so delicious. The collards were slamming! You need to try this spot. Not a lot of Ethiopian places on this side of town, in this area, totally worth it. Will definitely be ordering takeout or stopping in to eat regularly! Service with a smile, was excellent!

Yelp
This place was so good! Great flavor, some of the best Ethiopian food I've had. Definitely recommend the doro tibs and veggie plate.
google avatar

Yelp
This is just a single person in a food court making the freshest Ethiopian food you will ever have outside of Ethiopia I think. The food was delicious and the spices were layered and really delicious. I ordered mild and wish I had asked for spice. I want to see what that's like and I'll be back. They will do Catering for Film if you work in the business. I would recommend this hands-down for any crew. They have gluten-free, vegan, meat, whatever you need. Ali, owner and chef, is very nice and personable. But if you're just in the neighborhood, grab that.

Yelp
Passing through Atlanta, we happened upon Ruki's Kitchen while looking for another food establishment that was no longer in the location. What sheer luck for us! We had not had Ethiopian food in a while and decided to order a late lunch here. I had the Sega Tibs combo (spicy) with Tikel and Injera rolls. My husband ordered the special Shrimp Tibs combo (mild) with Gomen and Injera rolls. The good was piping hot and so delicious! Just the right amount of heat for me. The Tikel and Injera were a perfect balance of naturally sweet cabbage and tangy bread to the Sega. The shrimp was flavorful and perfectly it cooked and seasoned. The service was attentive and friendly. I cannot recommend Ruki's Kitchen enough for a wonderful meal.

Yelp
5 OUT OF 5 STARS!!!!!! They took my tastebuds to Poundtown

Jack B.

Yelp
Best Ethiopian I've had in the city! I change up my orders regularly because you can't go wrong with any combination
google avatar

Amanda P.

Yelp
I was disappointed in the portion sizes. Also, the flavors aren't as rich and powerful as other Ethiopian food I have had. It wasn't bad but I probably won't return.

Hadinnet Y.

Yelp
Amazing food. Very tasteful and made with healthy ingredients. The injera is pure teff. I'm of Eritrean origins so I've been eating Ethiopian/Eritrean all my life...I have to say "Great job!".
google avatar

Gus H.

Yelp
Great Ethiopian food! Ali will make sure you enjoy your meal and bring your food out to you. He really cares about the experience his customers have. The space is really cool and unpretentious. I leave satisfied every time.

Estifanos B.

Yelp
This was by far one of the best traditional dining experiences I've had in Atlanta to date! As an Ethiopian I do not venture out much to enjoy the same fare I could very well make myself. However, Ruki literally "nailed it" The portion size; pricing, the combination of spices and natural produce was top tier! I also liked the quaint aesthetic of Ruki's space in the dinning hall/ consortium of eateries! I rate this one

Yelp
We were craving Ethiopian food for weeks and happened to find Ruki's Kitchen. Food was AMAZING and definitely satisfied our craving. Would definitely recommend the steak, but you also can't go wrong with the chicken/vegis. The owner/chef was also very friendly. We definitely plan to come back!

Hayat A.

Yelp
This is my first review on Yelp and for great reason. Ruki's Kitchen is the best Ethiopian food that has ever blessed my palate. As a fellow Ethiopian, real recognize real...and this right here is AUTHENTIC! Is it possible to dream about food, yep! Thank you for giving us what what we didn't know we needed, Ruki's Kitchen!

Yelp
Delicious spot Injera bread is perfect and the spice in the tibs was the best Will be back

Terra D.

Yelp
In terms of aesthetic, it is a simple casual eatery within a food hall, an unpretentious setup and a cool concept in that they share a space with other restaurant vendors. Service was excellent and helpful in giving clarification when choosing between items. It was a focused menu and you can tell they put a lot of quality into the dishes they prepare. Food was made to order and very fresh but still came out quickly. I ordered the sega tibs combo with tikel as the side, all of which came with injera. They did not disappoint! The injera was notably delicious. I don't recall ever noticing injera being so tasty, and it stood out in the best way. It had the perfect amount of sour that complemented the spice and flavors of the other dishes. The steak in the sega combo was tender and seasoned perfectly. I was in a potato mood so the tikel was perfect. All 4 sides were vegan and they have the option for a veg platter so you can eat vegetarian/vegan as well. I am looking forward to trying all the dishes on future visits!

Allen D.

Yelp
Ruki's is one of the gems of we suki suki collective. The spice profile that Ali puts together was wonderful wth the greens, the lentils, and our star entree, the shrimp and caramelized onions. Nice chatting with Ali, and sitting on the EAV sidewalk on a beautiful evening. We'll be back for more.
google avatar

Sydney G.

Yelp
Super delicious beef dish, we'll be back to try the chicken! Anything with onions cooked like that is the best

Ashley S.

Yelp
First time here. Owner super friendly, quick service, delicious food, affordable prices, such a vibe!

Yelp
Do yourself a favor and visit this great restaurant in East Atlanta Village. The service is unmatched and Ali (the owner) truly cares about your experience. The food is absolutely amazing - everything we tasted was delicious. Definitely the best meal we had in a while. Highly recommend!

Betty M.

Yelp
The owner is so nice and informative. The food was amazing! I wish i took pictures! It's a cute little a hole in a wall you don't want to miss!!!

Justin M.

Yelp
First time eating at Ruki's kitchen. Food was great. We had the Sega tibs (steak) and the Doro tibs (chicken). Service was friendly and food was hot. A must visit in East Atlanta for authentic Ethiopian food

Stephen M.

Yelp
The food was bomb. Definitely would recommend very authentic and the owner is great!!

Yelp
Best Ethiopian spot in town I highly recommend getting the Sega Tibs super tender, juicy and packed with flavors.

Alex J.

Yelp
I love this place so much. So happy I found it! Food is SO flavorful and like no other Ethiopian food in ATL. Going to hire the chef for meal prep/private events too!

Selena D.

Yelp
We love Ethiopian cuisine and this was some of the best we've had in Atlanta. We had Chicken Tibs with Gomen (collard greens) and injera. The chicken was sautéed with sweet onions, peppers and tomatoes with the right amount of spices. Delicious! We will be back!

Christopher B.

Yelp
Absolutely outstanding food. We got the steak and chicken dishes with injera, and both had amazing flavor and were very distinct from one another. Some places around seem to throw the same seasoning on every dish but the flavors at Ruki's are very well thought out for the different dishes and each are complex and authentic. Who needs to travel so far north when we have great Ethiopian right here in the village. The chef is also super nice and helpful.

David C.

Yelp
Wow! The food is the best Ethiopian food I've had. Injera is perfect, made with pure tef I believe the guy said. Very friendly and welcoming service, and the perfect amount of food for a hungry vegan traveler. Do yourself a favor and eat here.
