OC’s 18 Best Bakeries for Bread, Pastries, and More | Eater LA

"An 18-year-old sourdough culture called Winona Ryeder helped head baker Sara Lezama launch her business, and the love of the craft just comes through in the baked goods. Today Rye Goods touts heritage milled grains and wild yeast, but don’t sleep on the savory brie and caramelized onion croissants or the bagels, which also come as sandwiches." - Jenn Tanaka

Always been a fan of Rye Goods and this new location is great. Food and coffee are top notch. They also have some healthy snacks for sale along the wall. We got the Rye Breakfast and Sourdough Pancakes which I highly recommend.

The ricotta toast and jasmine vanilla seasonal matcha were great. Service was pretty slow, and they are noticeably still working out the kinks (empty display case, no napkins- only a roll of paper towels to rip off). Nice outdoor seating!

This new location takes the exceptional bakery and patisserie that Rye has become known for in the Newport area and expands on the welcome and hospitality the team has shown for years. The space is beautifully designed to offer ample seating options, plenty of market offerings and an expanded wine program. The quiet energy and ambience is perfect for working through a wonderful breakfast or lunch. It’s easy to imagine the space as a comfortable bright dinner spot for friends and family.

Love the bread and especially the pastries at rye goods! I visited during their soft opening and despite them being busy, staff was incredibly helpful on their recommendations for coffee and their large selection of bread. Location is chic and cozy perfect for hanging out and meeting new people. I will be coming back for their planned wine night and their chocolate chip cookies!

We really like Rye Good and were really sad when the Balboa island location closed. It is my first time to check out the Costa Mesa location, and their fruit tea cake is so good! I really like how fresh the cake tastes and especially the staffs are really friendly here. Highly recommend it and will come back again!

This is so Costa Mezing! Such a great new spot for Rye Goods in the neighborhood. The staff is warm, welcoming, and always happy to help. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to become a regular. Can’t wait to check out the wine bar once it opens! Whether you’re grabbing a coffee and pastry to start your day or meeting a friend on the weekend, this place just hits right.

I had been to the Newport location several times while biking through the area, glad to see this location open, it's a nice place. Their pastries and baked good are pretty al-rye-ght (alright). A little pricy.

Was very excited to try this place, but was pretty disappointed overall. The resturant is very pretty with nice patio seating, but the food and drinks were mediocre. The bread we brought home was good, but the tomato bagel and the ricotta scrambled eggs were under seasoned and disappointing when compared to the presentation. The chocolate croissant was okay, but seemed to be sitting for a while before we ordered. Our coffees were dissapointing as well, especially after an extended wait. We came on a busy Saturday, and I understand our experience may not be indicative of the best they can do. They have potential, but have a few odds and ends to figure out. I will likely give this place one more shot, but will temper my expectations.
