My wife and I stopped by Rye Goods in Costa Mesa, and overall it’s a really nice spot with great vibes, a cozy outdoor patio, and a perfect setup if you want to sit, study, or get a little work done while enjoying a drink or snack. My wife grabbed the chicken salad from the fridge along with their sourdough crackers, and honestly, that ended up being the surprise favorite. Usually, I’m not a chicken salad person at all, but this one was actually really good. It had a nice zest to it and a slight sweetness on the finish that made it super flavorful. The sourdough crackers were the perfect combo, adding just the right amount of crunch and salt to balance it all out. We ended up eating the whole thing way faster than expected because it was that good. I ordered the breakfast burrito that our server recommended, but unfortunately, it just completely missed the mark. I had asked between the burrito and the seasonal fruit ricotta and definitely wish I went with the ricotta instead. The burrito was very dull tasting. The potatoes were in big chunks that overpowered everything, and the eggs were cooked too firm and not really scrambled. It was missing flavor, seasoning, and even cheese. The crema on the side was fine, but it didn’t really save it. I ended up tossing it halfway through which was disappointing, especially since the rest of the place was so great. That said, Rye Goods still has a lot of charm and you can tell their baked goods and pastries are the real stars. It’s an awesome location with a peaceful patio, friendly staff, and a solid environment to grab a coffee, study, or hang out for a bit. I’d definitely come back, just wouldn’t get the burrito again.

Rye Goods on 17th Street in Costa Mesa is everything I love in one stop. I came for a flat white and left very, very full. Baleu made my coffee beautifully, real latte art in those tricky cups, silky with Strauss milk and the balanced roast I crave. Her service set the tone right away, warm, attentive, and fast without rushing. Food wise, they nailed it. The everything bagel stacked with eggs, avocado, and sun-dried tomatoes was fresh and satisfying. The focaccia, heated, had that crisp edge and airy center that makes you pause between bites. We added scrambled eggs, soft and perfectly seasoned. The Caesar was a standout, kale based and super fresh, with sweet pops of apple, roasted butternut squash, and warm pitas that made it feel hearty and bright all at once. I finished with pastries because I always do here. The ginger snap cookie was as good as ever. The almond croissant was delicious, dense yet flaky, and yes it does have cardamom, which gives it a lovely lift. I absolutely overate and regret nothing. Major shoutout to Baleu for exceptional service and a gorgeous flat white. This spot continues to deliver on quality, flavor, and hospitality. I will be back soon.

I am always on the hunt for a solid sandwich and Rye Goods’ was up there! I can’t say much about their other menu items but the banh mi on a sourdough baguette was pretty good, a bit spicy from the pickled jalapeños. Will definitely be trying a different one next time but the service was great, the outdoor courtyard seating, beautiful. Recommend for sure!

We’ve been going to Rye Goods for years, and they just keep getting better every time we visit. We used to stop in mainly for pastries, but always wished for more “real food” options. Now, with the addition of sandwiches and other menu items, it’s become a go-to spot for meals too. The fried chicken sandwich, watermelon salad, and biscuit are all incredible, and the morning bun is still one of our favorites. Everything tastes fresh, creative, and well-made. On top of the food, the staff is always extremely friendly, which makes every visit that much better. We’re excited to keep coming back and seeing how their menu continues to evolve.

Always been a fan of Rye Goods and this new location is great. Food and coffee are top notch. They also have some healthy snacks for sale along the wall. We got the Rye Breakfast and Sourdough Pancakes which I highly recommend.

I walked in, and I wanted a loaf of bread they pulled it down from the shelf and it I held it my hand. It felt like a brick that was ice cold, and they said that they had baked it today, which I find it hard to believe it seems like the bread was refrigerated And I did not get it because they wanted $14 for a loaf so then I proceeded to buy some pastries, a blueberry muffin, coffee, cake, and lemon poppyseed poundcake. The blueberry muffin was super dense and the taste was stale is the best way I can describe it. The coffee cake had a stale flavor too. I don’t know if they refrigerating and selling their products but when I went to this place when it was in Newport, it was phenomenal, but I would never go back after my experience today I’d rather go to Colossus in Belmont shore, where the bread is fresh i’m going to Starbucks. They have really good blueberry muffins for only $4:25 Rye Goods charges me seven dollars, Rye Goods seems like the refrigerating food and selling it as fresh baked which is not the case. I’m so disappointed. I spent $20 for three pastries and I feel really ripped off. and what’s more frustrating is I asked the young lady hey how is this and she said oh it’s great. It’s good and this was not true in my situation. , maybe they have good sandwiches I don’t know. They seem like there were people there that enjoy some sandwiches but then they have frozen cookie dough they sell like for $32. That’s OK if you wanna buy some cookies or go for it, but you won’t see me there again ever!!!

Ordered the smore's iced latte and chili bagel breakfast sandwich. It was a lively area on a Monday morning. I enjoyed the breakfast outside and received quick service. Plenty of seating. I also ordered a loaf of sour dough and have been enjoying over the course of the week.

This new location takes the exceptional bakery and patisserie that Rye has become known for in the Newport area and expands on the welcome and hospitality the team has shown for years. The space is beautifully designed to offer ample seating options, plenty of market offerings and an expanded wine program. The quiet energy and ambience is perfect for working through a wonderful breakfast or lunch. It’s easy to imagine the space as a comfortable bright dinner spot for friends and family.

Phenomenal sandwiches and pastries. Their coffee was also really good too! We will definitely be back to try their breads as well. Be prepared to pay more than the average cafe but it is well worth it. The space inside and outside is also gorgeous. Parking is a nightmare. Even though they have complimentary valet the valet guys are not paying attention and will turn you away even if there are spots. Try carpooling because you can't miss out on this place!

Visited Rye Goods on a Saturday around 11AM. There's a parking lot with limited self parking spots but there is valet. The line was right about at the door but they assist you quicker if you're just grabbing bread or pastries. My husband and I ordered 1. Croque Madam - This had a sweet jam-like (?) flavor, which I wished was less sweet, but it was a nice balance with the thick slice of bread and heavier sauce. While the toasts are served on top of a piece of paper, it doesn't work well for this dish as the paper gets wet due to the sauce, and if using a fork and knife to eat the toast, it cuts right through the paper. 2. Rye Scramble - A simple dish with scrambled eggs on a baguette and some greens but this was delicious! The eggs were soft and fluffy. 3. Rye Potatoes - Seasoned well, I just wished they were a tad crispier. 4. Maple Rosemary Matcha - Recommended by the server and I enjoyed it! Sweet but not too sweet and has a hint of rosemary. 5. Peppermint Latte - Husband said the peppermint wasn't too strong but that he enjoyed it that way! We waited 40min for our food but we anticipated that after reading reviews that food took a while. We ate both the Croque Madam and Rye Scramble with a fork and knife and the bread was hard to cut through. Could use some sharper knives! Overall the food/drink and ambiance were great. The outdoor patio is lovely on a nice day!

Came here to say for a girls brunch super cute inside and out with plenty of seating even on a Saturday. The food was pretty good nothing to day dream about and the drinks were perfect we ordered a matcha and a chai. Food wise I was pretty disappointed with my fried chicken sandwich it was really deep fried and dark and the bread was super thick and dry the chipotle mayo was definitely its savory. The bread pudding was pretty dry for a bread pudding but had good flavor. I'd definitely say the caramalized onion pastry was my favorite would be better with maybe from turkey or ham inside but didn't have much to complain about with that one. Staff told us our drinks would be out shortly and they'd call out for us when it's ready I never heard them I just had to keep walking back inside to see if it was ready. Like ambiance wise it's perfect food wise looks good and all but it's hit or miss

Cute little charming bakery that has some food offerings as well. The interior is clean and this is a great spot for breakfast or lunch. The service was pretty fast. The sourdough was yummy, that was my favorite. There's seating outdoors where you can enjoy your coffee or food. The salad that came with my breakfast dish had a zesty dressing which was a perfect contrast. Also enjoyed the seasoned potatoes.

Cute little brunch spot in Costa Mesa! You can tell the bread is high quality. I went with friends one weekend, and there was a bit of a line but it moved relatively quickly. Plenty of yummy food and drink options; everyone will find something to eat, whether it's sweet or savory. I'd definitely come back!

I love me some sourdough so I must say although it's Rye the sourdough croissant was auhhmazingg. It's airy but chewy at the same time and the sandwich was packed with egg and sausage. It was definitely filling and worth the price. The sourdough pancakes were also soo good with this fruit compote, so easy to down a couple of those. I had the blueberry matcha which I wasn't a huge fan of but when in season the strawberry matcha is much better. This is one of my favorite go-to spots now.

A little bakery tucked away in Newport. The interior and exterior is extremely spacious and clean. They have plenty of tables and seating. The perfect spot for a casual breakfast, brunch, coffee, catch-up! - biscuit with whipped butter and seasonal jam: 9.8/10!!! If you get anything, get this!!! So delicious. Light, fluffy, crispy biscuit filled with a slightly sweet whipped butter and a delicious and tart seasonal jam. I will come back solely for this item. - savory handpie: 4/10. I was informed by the worker that this was filled with Japanese curry. After eating the pastry, the filling is not Japanese curry. It was more of an Indian style curry. :( this was disappointing and not yummy. They have a huge variety of pastries, breakfast items, breads, and microwavable foods that you can take home for a meal! Would definitely like to try more things from here!

Super cute shop with freshly made sourdough bread and pastries. Many of he breads are vegan except for brioche and those that add cheese to it. The bread was absolutely delicious I got the sesame seed sourdough so good!! They also have frozen cookie dough and additional items in the refrigerator section. I wish there was a sandwich that was vegan or that they used vegan just egg with breakfast. They have a cute patio as well. Very busy on soft opening so I'm sure it will continue to be a busy place.

I had to wait 29 minutes for a to-go breakfast burrito. I love rye goods. I went to their Newport location a lot, & supported their Tustin location when it opened. Price was about $18. I'm mainly frustrated by the exceedingly long wait time for a to-go order.

This place is AMAZING!!! everytime i come here the food always tastes so fresh and flavorful. the vibe of the restaurant is unlike any other, and is a great place to get work done or catch up with friends. they also have some of the best matcha in newport, with so many delicious house-made syrups!! i always recommend this place to my friends and family and can't wait to come back!!

I love the Tustin location so I'm happy to see one in Newport! There's plenty of outdoor seating to catch up w friends, & ample street parking. We got iced matcha, hot date latte & chicken sausage. Everything tasted great & service was lovely, only thing it's a bit pricy for the small quantity they give.

Their sour dough croissant is not your traditional croissant, but it's one of my favorite croissants. Darker in color due to the rye, super chewy, a little dense, and oh so buttery. A standout among a lot of the bakeries I've tried whose croissants all blend together. They also make a mean scone here. Will have to come back for more!

Definitely worth the line!! We went on a Saturday morning and it didn't take long to get to the front. The staff was super friendly and offered suggestions. As a bit of a coffee snob, I thought that my cortado was really good. The bagel sandwich was so massive and every bite was delicious. First off this new Rye goods location is a 10/10! They have a front and back patio as well as indoor seating! The ambience on these patios feels like you are enjoying your food in your backyard. Rye goods is truly one of my favorites but as you can see they cut my sandwich with a dirty knife and got cream cheese on my sandwich. It wasn't a huge deal since i'm not allergic or anything I just don't like cream cheese. I would just be cautious if you have allergies! Overall sandwich was very delicious and I love the ingredients they use here for all their baked goods.

I frequent this shopping center since my nail salon is there but checked out Rye Goods for the first time last week with a girlfriend. All the pastries and bread looked so good but I decided to go with the breakfast plate. This did not disappoint! Even though it seems simple they did it well. Eggs and potatoes were great and got to try the side of bread too. Will definitely be coming back to try more menu items! Parking is limited but they have free valet which helps. Also very cute outdoor seating and ambiance.

rye... u were good, but i'm waiting for u to be great. the location and interior are splendid. the menu looks delish. workers were nice. but my avocado toast needed some help. the decorative paper under the moist saucy toast created a ripped papery warzone, of which i was a little scared to eat upon lest i consume a little paper. miraculously i didn't eat any paper. but I did appreciate the generosity of one whole full avocado being used. And of course the sourdough was bomb. however. i'm here as a mere customer to provide some feedback. the huge pieces of uncut dill were not very functional, i would have appreciated smaller pieces throughout. This goes for pretty much everything else on the plate. the tomatoes n cheese pieces similarly cut too large and sparse. The avocado wasn't cut either, just 2 big halves, suggesting the use of a fork and knife to cut pretty much everything on the plate--however, the paper under the toast and the thick sourdough pieces make the knife/fork experience pretty torturous. It would be best to revisit the form factor of the components of this toast and really consider the eating experience.

This is my new favorite place in Costa Mesa for a weekend breakfast! Such a cute spot with amazing outdoor seating. Their patio is huge and has so many different tables. The inside felt very clean and modern and well laid out. The pastries were out of this world incredible with so many different options. The bagels were delicious, we loved the egg bagel Sammy. Fantastic coffee drinks too. The servers were very speedy and brought us utensils outside without being asked. So nice, family friendly.

On a Sunday morning this is a tough spot to make an order, I waited over 20 minutes patiently to make a purchase for a takeout item. The service was courteous, but abrupt, and the food itself was alright. I wouldn't return for anything quick to eat. I ordered the cauliflower wrap, which was decent, but not the caliber I would expect for the price. I normally love the pastries, but this item particularly was not my favorite. I did appreciate the fact that the cauliflower wrap was a vegan and gluten free option.

WOW!! The warm farro bowl hits the mark with sweet and savory. Perfect for a rainy day. Service is always top tier and the ambiance is clean and cozy. My favorite place to grab coffee, get yummy food and bring friends from out of town. Rye Goods always HITS!!

The coffee and food are mid, the bread is good, the ambiance is cute and service is decent. The low score is mainly coming from the fact that this place is INSANELY overpriced for what it is. Who the hell charges for HOT SAUCE? Eggs + Salad cost $30 and you're gonna charge me for HOT SAUCE?

I'm not sure what happened here, but when they moved locations their service went way down hill. It is SO slow. Ordered a $10 matcha latte and waited 20 minutes. No one in front of me, but the cashier kept taking more and more orders. Last two times I was here also waited an insane amount of time. For I think the need to have an actual barista and not a cashier/barista situation. Two stars because I clearly kept coming back because of the food and drink quality. So if you have nowhere to be maybe it's worth it:

Fun, casual bakery that's perfect for meeting up with friends on a weekend morning or bringing your laptop to do work during the week. I ordered the Rye Scrambled Eggs and it was delicious - nice portion with soft scrambled eggs on a not-too-crunchy piece of bread and a refreshing salad on the side. I also had the matcha latte and it was serviceable. The parking is somewhat of a zoo so don't expect to find parking in their lot (unless you're willing to valet) but there is plenty of street parking, as well as a parking lot across the street. Also, they appear to be constantly busy and some of our food took quite a while so plan accordingly.

We ordered the avocado toast and the honey mustard chicken sandwich. Both were very good, definitely recommend. The service was also good, we got our food fairly quickly. Really like the outdoor patio of this bakery, can sit outside and enjoy the outdoors! Will definitely go back to Rye Goods soon!

Dear Yelp Community, Was sad to see this relocate from Lido Marina Village...but happy to see the reemergence not too far...in Costa Mesa. Friendly staff, and nice building (Paseo 17) with outdoor seating. My afternoon break with coffee (first drip with honey, then Americano plain) for here (in the nicer cup). Enjoy! Sincerely, Anna

Their butter croissant is very unique not to mention quite large! It's buttery goodness. Only wish is for them to warm up their pastries. Their coffee game is very weak... but we go for the pastries. New location is much more spacious and provides plenty of seating outdoors. Extra charge for condiments even when you order a meal - strange

This new Rye location is so beautiful! Tons of indoor and outdoor seating. The crew was so kind and our pastries and drink was excellent, will definitely be making this location a regular stop for our family!

I was so excited to try this spot, but it did not live up to expectations, and I would rather have gone to Eller or tried the neighboring milligram next door. Their menu states that you can get eggs your way for the breakfast sandwich; however, they do not offer egg whites, which should be included in the eggs your way statement. It should specify except egg whites. Also, they were out of avocado, which was super disappointing. I don't like that their coffees or Matcha only come in one size, but the vanilla Matcha was delicious. They also do not offer many flavors for their drinks, except vanilla mocha or honey. The flavor on the croissant breakfast sandwich was good but the turkey sausage or whatever meat was included was funky and not my fav. Also, you order and then take a number and they bring you your order, except you have to go back up for your drinks, which no one told me, so our drinks were sitting out for a while, but I do really love that you can sit outside and they have live music. I think this place was a once-and-done for me and overly hyped.

Absolutely terrific breads and the customer service is impeccable. We are madly in love with the oat bread.

What a nice surprise I found today! I was just walking by but decided to go in and grab a bagel - delicious! And I ended up walking out with half a dozen chocolate crinkle cookies to enjoy later. (Their cookies are amazing!) I'll remember this bakery the next time I'm in Costa Mesa.

Stopped here with my kids for some treats and everything was a hit, especially the biscuit with whipped butter and jam. Really darning atmosphere and friendly service. Price is up there but that matches the vibe. A lot easier and nicer than the lido location had been.

I always enjoyed getting food here when this spot was in Newport. Visited new location in Costa Mesa. Very cute space but hard to find parking. My biggest issue is the wait time. Ordered a plain bagel with chive cream cheese on a not so busy Monday morning. Took 15 min to get my order. When I asked about my order after 10 min, the young lady replied snooty "they are working on it". Like really? Not a thank you for your patience or sorry for the wait. After the long wait, I don't recommend my order. Nothing special for an over priced bagel.

Ok let me just preface this by saying .... I love rye goods and I go multiple times per week when I should be saving my money to buy a house. So .. yes I love it it's not uncommon for me to go 4-5 times per week it's great and the customer service is lovely. My ONE beef is that the can't warm up a pastry ... which like okay fair that would add to the overall wait of every single customer .... And I know everyone is scared of microwaves whatever but it's truly criminal that I have to buy a pastry to go, then walk or drive home and THEN heat it up basically being taunted the entire time. Like???? Are people just dry dogging these pastries fresh out the counter?

Got the fried chicken sandwich. Can I get some chicken with the salt? We were looking forward to trying this place out, when the food came out it was promising but unfortunately no. The fried chicken sandwich was overcooked, and extremely salty. I had to throw it out and I really tried because given how much we spent I can't be throwing out food for any reason. Very expensive for one of the worse sandwiches I have ever had. My partner had the honey mustard chicken sandwich and it was equally disappointing. $80 for 3 sandwiches and 2 coffees and 2 kids juices. 2 stars because the coffee was ok. It was better than the food.

I can't lie. The food is really good but just had a really bad experience here. The food costs at least $30 and we waited over 40 minutes for our food for some of the orders to come out wrong. The staff is kind but def stressed and the ambiance is really nice but this is just something to consider. Came to get a quick bite before the beach and ended up waiting an hour for toast.

We were THRILLED to see a Rye Goods open here! My wife and I used to travel from Anaheim Hills down to Lido Village just for that location. We recently moved and now we can walk to this one. We'll probably be here every day. The baked goods don't miss. From the breakfast burrito to the sweet scones. You really can't go wrong. This location also has a ton of indoor and outdoor seating. Ambiance rules too! The staff are always super friendly. They do a great job here across the board.

We had been waiting for this one to open; stopped in and had the best experience! Pastries and coffee were excellent, and the team there were so sweet. Plenty of seating in a great spot and with great people working there, how does it get better?

Came for opening day and so happy they moved to this location. Much more spacious, cute little outdoor area. Ok but let's start with the goods. First off all everything is organic, sourdough and delicious. I have a gluten allergy but I can tolerate their sourdough. I don't have flare ups or any wild stomach cramping from their sourdough which is incredible. The one thing I do wish they had were Refined Sugar Free pastries. So it is a bummer I haven't had anything other than their loafs (without the sugar) and a couple other breakfast/lunch items that also don't have sugar. Also service is AMAZING! Everyone is so friendly. Riley has helped me out a couple of times and he is such a sweetheart! All in all 10/10. If you happen to make pastries that are refined sugar free I'd give them a 12/10.

These pastries are so chewy and dry. Could not have been more disappointed. I fully cannot understand why the lines are so long.

I forgot to take a picture of my bagel because I ate it too fast! But their bagels and chive cream cheese are so good. They also accommodated my request for a matcha with less caffeine since I'm pregnant with no issues which was so sweet- also it was such a good matcha. Will definitely be back. We've been by their lido location many times but I love that they have more food options now! The outdoor seating is also so nice!

10/10 would recommend the sweet butter biscuit it's amazing as well as their sourdough bagels. Only thing though is that it's not an actual deli and have no meat products to pair with their breakfast options :p

The breakfast sandwiches were good and the Matcha was delicious. However, the service was a disappointment. After assuring us they would come find us when the food was ready, they made zero attempts to do so. The food sat for a while before we realized it was ready. On top of that, they charge for condiments! There are so many amazing coffee shops in Costa Mesa - will not be going back to Rye Goods.

Really excellent espresso and kind employees. Took off a star because we waited almost 25 minutes for a bagel!
