The Best Restaurants in Oceanside, California

"Rye’s and Grind, a popular all-day destination in Oceanside, deals in stacked Jewish delicatessen-style sandwiches (on its namesake bread) and heartier breakfast and lunch plates. The breakfast menu includes two-hander bagel sandwiches (try the pastrami, egg, and Swiss or lox iterations, depending on your craving), silver-dollar pancakes, and eggs Benedict, as well as a make-your-own hash, shakshuka, challah French toast, a latke Reuben, and an acai bowl — for health. Lunch sees additions like matzoh ball soup, salads, and deli board sandwiches like the “Jubano” with shaved ham, pastrami, dill pickles, Swiss, and brown mustard, all pressed into a challah roll. Come hungry, leave with latkes." - Helen I. Hwang, Eater Staff

The 8 Best Restaurants & Bars In Oceanside

"Rye’s & Grind calls itself a modern delicatessen, which in our eyes just means somewhere you can devour a pastrami while Rihanna bumps in the background. Their plates are the size of “just in case you don’t eat the rest of the day,” whether you’re taking your pastrami in a hash with bell peppers and a side of red or green salsa, or layered into the Pastrami Pusher sandwich with slaw and swiss cheese. If starting your morning with a pile of cured meat isn’t on your vision board (but breakfast booze is), get the Drunken Arctic Monkey drink, an espresso cocktail laced with peanut butter whiskey and coconut cream, while a breeze wafts through their large, roll-up windows. On your way out, grab an everything bagel for later." - ligaya malones

We read all of the comments and we were thrilled to get a taste of a Jewish Deli. Well it was not worth all the hype our sandwich was soggy and my eggs Benedict was on a soggy potato latke with more burned tasting potatoes had I known the side was more potatoes I would have ordered something different. Our waitress forgot to put in our coffee order we know this because people who arrived after us got their coffee and told us she forgot to put our order in. My husband ordered a cinnamon roll latte, the first try was just a foamy plain coffee we asked if they can try again and they did. Presentation was good I guess I will have to blame the waitress because our food was cold not the kitchens fault she did not pick up our order. I did ask her where is our food and she said she will check on it and then it magically appeared another girl brought it out. Cold 🥶

The only reason this place is getting two stars, is because the other server, a gentleman finally asked if I had been helped! I personally went in and placed an order at noon for a Reuben "to go". There were only 3 tables when I arrived. Not busy, especially with two servers. I waited 25 minutes for my sandwich!! Ruined my lunch hour! Finally, Brigitte tells me it usually takes 7 minutes. She never acknowledged me in that time-frame, never apologized for the delay, or asked if I'd like a glass of water, etc. I have been a server for over 25 years, along with being a manager, bartender, hostess and cook, and I would never have a customer Sitting there unacknowledged, or to let them know it's taking longer, and apologize! I thought, ok, I hope the food is decent. NOPE!! It was terrible! No flavor, small, hardly any meat, and the pasta salad was as hard as a rock!! It tasted like it was next to some fish. For $17, and I left a tip on this to go order... one of the worst restaurants in Oceanside. Not worth the money or my taste buds. Not sure how this place stays in business. I'm from Chicago, and this place would not last a week. Didn't have an area to post pics.

My bagel breakfast sandwich was very yummy! I really enjoyed it. My kids all ordered pancakes and they were a bit disappointing. Overcooked and overpriced. Ordered sausage on the side (didn’t come with it) and it was not great either. I would come back for the bagel sandwich though! Enjoyed sitting outside on the patio.

I traveled from San Diego, CA, to meet a friend from Mountain View, CA, at the Oceanside Transit Center for some Christmas cheer! We looked for a place to eat and decided to try Ryes and Grind, which is within walking distance of the Oceanside Transit Center. My friend ordered the Monte Cristo, pastrami tater tots, and Mexican Cola. I ordered a ½Pastrami sandwich, delicious fries, a salad with blue cheese crumbles, plus a side of ranch dressing, coffee, and date cookies for dessert. The service was excellent. They even let us two stay (after closing while the employees cleaned the place), but we didn't even notice that we were the only customers left! How cool was that? The bathroom even had a disco dance hall effect whenever you flipped the light switch! I will definitely return! They treated us like we were regulars! I will definitely return to this jewel! I marked an X for the best table in the place (beside the front cash register)! Happy Holidays! ✔️🔥🎸💯😁

I was very excited to try this restaurant specifically because I used to own a Jewish restaurant many years ago in San Diego. Please know, I am very frugal with my five stars, that said, they have surpassed on the welcoming spacious atmosphere, friendly personal service and food presentation was off the charts. Menu selection has lots of vegetarian choices, creative offerings on ‘traditional’ Jewish foods - Orange Custard dipped Challah toast, Eggs Benedict on top of a potato latke. I can’t wait to come back and try all of these and bring the whole family!! Kudos Ryes and Grind 🥰🥰🥰

Google
Awesome open air spot, lots of windows, and space between seating made this place very comfortable. Hostess was super tentative and friendly. They sat our group of 7 at the high-top table, which was perfect for us. Our server was great with orders and tending to us. I ordered Bacon, egg and cheese on a fresh English muffin. The sandwich had a good amount of egg and lots of tasty bacon. The wife had Berry Wild French Toast, which was sweet and savory. Very big order, so make sure you're hungry. They also served fresh orange juice and bomb house Coffee. We will be back!

Google
I love a traditional Jewish deli with good matzah ball soup and pastrami. Their matzah ball soup was good, the portion was on the smaller side, but it was the perfect amount to go with my entree. The pastrami benedict on latkes was DELICIOUS, probably one of the best benedicts I've had. Also they offer half benedict portions for an affordable price!!! The rosemary potatoes are great too. Their scrambles or hash bowls are a small portion for the cost (there wasn't as much brisket in the bowl for hash), so you're better off getting a benedict, breakfast sandwich, or lunch sandwich if you want a good portion for the cost. Their open faced lox bagel is huge! The sandwich was large enough to split with the sides. As for service, we went on a holiday weekend and they told us they were very understaffed. Service was slow, one of the cups I had was dirty so had to get a new cup, but the service became better as the crowds died down, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and will definitely come back. The big windows were nice with the ocean breeze on a hot day and really opened tge space up. The patio is large and wraps around, so there's a lot of outdoor seating.

Google
I had this place saved and finally made it in for lunch. I had a Reuben sandwich and a lemon pasta salad. I was warmly greeted and given mini blueberry muffins to try. They were delicious and I ordered a dozen to take home. The Reuben sandwich and pasta salad were delicious. Atmosphere was warm and clean and service was excellent and friendly. I highly recommend this place.

Yelp
Fun little spot that we managed to walk right into Sunday morning! Really yummy cocktails- I wish I could remember the name (pssst- update your website!) and we both had half sandwiched that were stacked with fresh yummy ingredients. I definitely want to come back and try their breakfast bagels- they look mouthwatering! All in all really enjoyed the expierence and if you're looking for a quick bite to eat and grab a drink- give it a shot!!

Yelp
I had come to write a review about their delicious bagel sandwiches as I sat to eat here for the second time this weekend but when I walked up everything was closed. There was a sign sending me across the street to the local tap. So I went there. The staff let me know that Rye's and grind is permanently closed. So sad. BUT the bagel sandwich I wanted is here. So you can see my review over there. It's too bad it was a beautiful space. Look forward to whatever they do next here.

Yelp
Coffee, pastrami and a party button in the ladies room about sums it up. I've had nothing but yummy food and good times in this building. Rye's and Grind has been great. Recently they changed the names on the menu and the breads the food comes with but still great. The service is always slightly understaffed so you wait a bit but what's the rush? Sometimes I just get a pastry or coffee to go. The parking is in the alley down the block and it's right but there is also free street parking. Big bar and unique cocktails, bloody Mary's and beer. Onion rings are great and I love that they serve tots!

Yelp
Awesome spot! Came here on Saturday for brunch. They have a ton of breakfast options. Seeing as there's a sandwich on their sign, I thought it'd be fitting to order a sandwich. Our server was quick and attentive. They gave us mini muffins while we wait for our food to come. I ordered the flavor sandwich with their pasta salad. So delicious! It tastes really fresh. They have a bunch of drink options as well. It's a super cute spot for breakfast or lunch and I would love to come back to try more from their menu!

Yelp
I never knew about this place until my homebrew club had a meeting here. So my review is for stopping in at this private event, where they opened just for us, but I feel I would get the same food and service as any other time. The staff was friendly and I think we overwhelmed them the first time, with the number of people that showed up. This is defiantly one of those places I look forward to going for our club meetings and the food was excellent both times I have eaten there. The restaurant has a somewhat open area with high tables in the back and booth style tables on the other side. There is a nice bar as well. I really enjoyed the French dip sandwich in the picture.

Yelp
Clean, definitely pricier but delicious I got the salmon Benedict on potatoes. Absolutely delicious, but expensive for a whole plate. I'd come back to try other stuff on the menu because it was a nice vibe and fun to sit down and chill. The service was good and quick and the place was clean. I'll be coming back

Yelp
After a fun night there is nothing better than a brunch spot. Love the sitting. You can sit indoors or outdoor with both all around the. Didn't take long to be sitted but we may just have been lucky. They menu has some really good options and I can't wait to continue to explore their menu. The Bloody Mary was deliciously spicy. We ordered a bottle of champagne for $20 and for mimosas.

Yelp
Super cool spot in Oceanside! Met with a friend here for brunch and drinks. Tons of seating inside with a cool decor style. The staff were attentive, friendly, and laid back which added to the comfortable/ casual vibe inside. The drinks were really yummy and the food was good too. Def recommend stopping by to check it out!

Yelp
Love this cute little restaurant. Super clean and the service is always great. The food here is fresh and good. I'm super basic so I normally get the Rye's & Grind breakfast, with the Challah toast. This is probably one of my favorite breakfast spots in Oceanside. Thank you Rye's and Grind for always having such great service and food.

Yelp
So we've been here about half a dozen different times our last time was back in 2024 and then just today I can tell you that apparently the chef has changed and then changed again and it is a shambles of what at once was the pastrami pusher used to be the amazing Jewish style deli pastrami on an amazing Dutch crunch bread, Serbu tater tots and it was phenomenal it's something that we literally drive from out of state just to get Now they called the OC something and it is absolute trash. There is more bread than there is meat and it doesn't even come with a side and they kept the price is the same. They said oh well we didn't raise prices. We just got rid of the side that made the whole thing great Unfortunately even though this was a place that we love to come to every time we would visit Oceanside from here on out it's off the list. It's absolute trash now. Don't bother going.

Yelp
This place is so cute. I have been wanting to try it for a while. But, I sorta went in with low expectations and I sorta am leaving with low expectations. I would come back for a to-go bagel sandwich with pastrami. But, they don't make their own bagels...advertising the Jewish deli schtick and then buying your bagels elsewhere is meh for me. Pastrami was great. I ordered a pastrami Benedict and it was delish. Got it on a latke cake. Not interested in having potatoes underneath my eggs and potatoes next to my eggs, but I guess that's what's happening. That's a lot of potato. A half order is $15. Full is $20. Half my order was cooked correctly and the other egg was legit hard boiled. So the server kindly took my plate and showed the kitchen their error. She packaged up a whole new half Benny to go. Very sweet. Mimosa was $6 so that's incredible. Pop in for a mimosa and bagel sanchie! To note: I originally ordered a margarita, then quickly decided to swap to a coffee cocktail. The bartender and all the servers told me that they had just received this drink menu mere hours ago, so they did not know how to make any of the cocktails. That didn't give me a lot of confidence so I went with a mimosa. We will prob drop by again, but not a "must return" sadly.

Yelp
Awesome food and great service, they hosted an after hours event for our club. I have only been here a few times and everything I have ordered has been delicious. The chicken sandwich with cherry peppers and french dip were so good. I will have to come back during breakfast and lunch hours and give it a try.
google avatar

Carol L.

Yelp
Whether it's breakfast, lunch, or dinner you will not be disappointed with the pastrami. I've had a thicker stacked sandwich, so this seemed skimpy -- until you actually bite into this beaut. It doesn't need to be stacked high as it is flavorful as is. Lox bagel is an even thicker portion, so try and smush this bad boy. A little too thick for my liking, but that's just a personal preference. I bet this place is also nice for dinner -- full bar and all!

Yelp
It was my first time and just the name caught my eye, driving down Coast Highway. Delicious food, great service, and the drinks were tasty! We sat down and the waitress brought us complimentary blueberry muffins We ordered coffee and a Pretty Please cocktail, which wasn't too strong but still good. I usually order something sweet, so I chose the birthday cake pancakes! Not too soft or overbearingly sweet. Tastes as good as it looks! And it had cream cheese whip, which made it even better! We also ordered onion rings, so crunchy and huge! Lastly, my boyfriend ordered the 14 hour smoked brisket sandwich and he enjoyed it!

Yelp
Awesome food, great service. Coffee is delicious and a treat. You don't feel rushed. The ladies room Had a fun disco vibe. Fun open place that is warm and inviting. Not your bubbies deli but she'd love it all the same.

Yelp
Overall, an underwhelming experience. I had been eyeballing this place for a short time, and picking up some family relatives at the nearby train depot made this visit convenient. Service was sufficient, but lackadaisical as my sliced corned beef hash "bowl ???" came out unexplainably a solid 5 minutes after everyone's sandwich to our table. Most of the food was plated nicely and had sufficient portions but the flavors and textures were unanimously lacking any "wow" factor. The vegetables and potatoes in my hash were well overdone. I was hoping for more, but I compare this place to many other trendy pub-type tap houses in the area including the sister LTH across the street; fun-vibed, younger crowd and dog-friendly patios with themed music and decor, but meh food. Unfortunately, I'll probably pass this up on our next trip to "the train station" (Yellowstone, 2023). Dicks

Yelp
Came for my birthday with my parents to enjoy a light lunch. It was relatively near the church we were at so I decided to map us to Ryes and Grind. I would've otherwise given a full 5 stars but it was a little strange that the staff had my parents and I standing around awkwardly for some minutes while other customers came in. I understand a table needed tk be wiped down, but it seemed like other tasks kept getting prioritized and we kept standing at the entrance.... I also docked a star for the prices being a little higher for what we ordered. Nonetheless, in what follows, I share why it was still good. When we finally were seated, our server was lovely and made sure we were taken care of. She even made sure to get me a birthday pancake since nothing else was really fresh and available. Very sweet. The lox bagel was fine, the Cesar salad was decent. My dad's hash order seemed filling for him. In all, it was truly a light lunch that we expected and looked for that day. With regard to ambiance, the restaurant has a pretty unique vibe as what looks like a former car shop and garage.

Yelp
I wanted to try this deli during the holidays. When I entered the deli, I felt the modern warm welcoming atmosphere. I ordered the matzah ball soup and eggs with a side of toast...oh yesss, I also ordered an apple pie chai latte. Nice presentation! Each bite and sip exuded freshness and deliciousness!! Portions just right!!! Coral, my waitress, was a jewel. She was very helpful and checked on me often. So go to R&G to kick start your day!!!!

Yelp
Took our son to lunch here today before leaving town. I chose it because I saw the Matzo Ball soup pic on Yelp. It was as good as it looked. Nice menu and good prices. Service was a little slow but perhaps it was because it was Tuesday. We weren't in a hurry anyway. Patio area was really nice (but a little chilly to sit out there today). Press the button on the way out of the ladies room and party! Recommended.

Yelp
I felt welcomed the minute I walked in! Friendly staff. I had the Orange-dipped French Toast, we'll prepared very tasty. Great Latkes! A breakfast must!
google avatar

Paula B.

Yelp
We said at the bar. The bartender wasn't friendly, but did give good service. Our food was fresh and good. But my friend got a hair in her sandwich! She didn't say anything because she didn't want to ruin it for us. Over all just okay.
google avatar

Jessica C.

Yelp
Absolutely loved this hidden gem in Oceanside! The breakfast was absolutely delicious! The kids loved the sausage, egg and cheese bagel and birthday pancakes. I love the Cali o bagel sandwich. The bloody Mary's are to die for too. We went multiple times while in ocean side and our servers, Ginger and Kate, were the best. Both were kind and very attentive. Highly recommend checking out this spot! OH! Almost forgot our favorite thing! You need to check out the dance party button in the women's restroom.
google avatar

Mackenzi L.

Yelp
Absolutely loved it and will be back soon. Six of us went around 11ish and were seated quickly. Everyone loved their food. I didn't try the onion rings personally but several people at the table said they are a MUST. Their hollandaise is some of the best I've had, and their breakfast potatoes are perfectly seasoned. I appreciate that they offer 1/2 orders on some items. I read some of the 1 star reviews and it seems staffing used to be a challenge. We were helped by several gals and every one of them were friendly and lovely. The servers and hostesses were warm, the food was fast, and we were checked on regularly. This place is so cute. Lots of modern decor, blue tones, inside seating, a bar counter and dual patios. It's a great corner of Oceanside and in walking distance to Seaborne coffee. If you love LTH and Dons, you're gonna love Ryes.
google avatar

Brenda T.

Yelp
Previous experiences here have all been top notch - delicious food, cool vibe, friendly staff. Came here today with a friend and sat at a nice spot out in the sun. I ordered the mushroom hash with poached eggs and my friend ordered some kind of salad with apples which she had had before and loved. The hash was pretty good but their shaved turkey and avo Benedict (on a latke) which I enjoyed on a previous visit was more tasty to me. The food here is a 5, location and decor a 5, our waitress today, Emily, was a 3. Emily you killed the "you are not welcome here" vibe. I will be back but hopefully won't get sat in your section.
google avatar

Rich C.

Yelp
Their pastrami is to die for! You'd have to drive to Canter's in the Fairfax District in LA to match theirs! They have a Pastrami Benedict that is amazing. The staff is friendly and the service is great! They offer espresso drinks and cocktails and are open for breakfast and lunch! Their Early Bird breakfast special is $10.99 8-10am 7 days/week!
google avatar

Yelp
A good option for breakfast if you're in the area. Didn't get to enjoy anything from the bar but I'd imagine we'll be back.
google avatar

Kathy L.

Yelp
Hands down one of my favorite places for breakfast/brunch. The food is absolutely amazing. I couldn't choose between pastrami and brisket so the server was super accommodating and offered me half and half. The drinks were nicely done, I got the matcha latte and it could have had more matcha flavor but overall, not bad. Very nice and open environment, perfect for a Sunday morning outing.
google avatar

Addy W.

Yelp
Went here the other day for brunch and wasn't disappointed. Staff was friendly, food was delicious and it had a nice vibe. The highlight however was the bathroom. When accidentally pushing a button I thought was to open the door automatically, turned into a a disco, jamming party. I fell in love, told my friend and before we left had to jam a bit in the bathroom. Best bathroom ever!!!
google avatar

Tracy H.

Yelp
Another delicious breakfast here. Service was awesome. I have to say, I'm hooked on their Monte Cristo sandwich. Probably one of the best I've ever had. But last time we were here, my husband went with a High Holiday and of course I had to try it. Yelp, it's now my all time favorite sandwich. It's piled high with turkey, ham, cranberry, stuffing, arugula and cheese. I went with the crunch bread that's delicious. I ate half of a half and was full. My husband had some pastrami dish, and our friend had blueberry pancakes. There's plenty outdoor seating and dog friendly. The inside is not too big but still plenty of seating.

Yelp
We went to Rye's and Grind last week and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. I would say it's a Jewish deli *inspired* restaurant. Lots of nods to culturally foods like Potato Latkes and Matzoh ball soup. Definitely not kosher, but so freaking delicious. I had a turkey avocado sandwich (it has a fun name but I forget) and a side of onion rings. The showstopper is the bread roll. Soft, fluffy and fresh. I also love the thin sliced meat and shredded lettuce. The onion rings were good. My partner had the French toast and a Larry David (a coffee cocktail) that he said tasted great. We were seated right away and had great service. The restaurant can get a little cold because of its location and the open concept, so I was glad I brought a sweater, even in late morning. Looking forward to returning soon.

Yelp
Love Rye's and Grind! The vibe is top notch. The staff is super chill and the servings are MASSIVE.
google avatar

Sylvia P.

Yelp
We ordered two half corned beef sandwiches and the meat was dry and not worthy of a third bite. The 14-hour smoked brisket was not smoky at all and it was the size of the 1/2 for the cost of $15.00 The one Chai drink I exchanged-out for the terrible matcha drink was delicious. Total cost for 3 small half sandwiches & one drink $53 and absolutely not worth the cost.
google avatar

Britton ..

Yelp
Nice vibe, friendly staff. Food was decent, really loved the pastrami tots, although coulda used more pastrami for $15. The flavor saver was okay, would have added mustard and swapped the bread, the roll was v plain. Fun place for a lunch though!

Yelp
We live in Temecula but are in Oceanside all the time. We have wanted to try this place for a while. Today was the day. The atmosphere is great with both indoor and outdoor seating. I had the Full Monte Cristo and the Hippie Speedball and my girlfriend had the pastrami on rye with onion rings. My sandwich was tasty and the coffee was delicious. I know pastrami is fatty but it was a bit more fatty than she prefers but she did love the onion rings. Our server was attentive and our overall experience was good. I would like to try one of their regular sandwiches so we will be back.

Hannah S.

Yelp
Very disappointed! We ordered drinks as soon as we sat down and those came fast and were delicious - but the server took a very long time to come back and take our order, and then we waited 35 minutes for our food. A table that was sat after us got their food before us, and when we asked our server about it, her response was that their ticket was put in first. Not really a great excuse since we were sat first and ready to order (and waiting) immediately after she took our drinks but whatever. Anyway, the food finally came and it was absolutely not worth the wait at all. I got the Cali bagel sandwich on an everything bagel - the bagel was extremely underseasoned and had oats on it? Weird. The eggs were supposed to be medium poached and one of the eggs was verrrry overdone. The everything seasoned tater tots were barely seasoned yet again and extremely oily. The side latke was average at best and the latke that came under the eggs benedict was lukewarm. The corned beef hash was not really a hash either per my husband. Two stars because the vibe and patio were cool and the drinks were excellent. Both the bloody mary and the (seasonal) Tis the Season were the highlights of the meal. Aside from that, this place is a definite skip. Shame!

Yelp
Expensive and not worth it. Won't be back. Servings are small for the price. Maybe later. Good though.

Yelp
Fun restaurant. The bathroom lights up and plays fun music like a nightclub. They have a huge connect four game you can play. The food was good. Lots of variety from sandwiches to breakfast. Fresh health juice too. HAPPY GRINDING!
google avatar

Christine D.

Yelp
Nope. Tried this place again. This time through door dash. The Oside sandwich was so dry! Could it be because they left the Russian dressing off it, or that the coleslaw had no binder like mayonnaise, just shredded cabbage, or was it the burnt shaved pastrami shavings that were black, clumped up and awful tasting? Was it because they were closing soon and couldn't care less? My pathetic sandwich looked nothing like your photos you post! Come on guys! Do better please.

Yelp
I was excited to hear there was a Jewish deli in Oceanside...saddened when I realized it was more like a jew-ish style restaurant. Bubbie is referenced several times on the menu and let me say, if Bubbie saw that there was ham on a sandwich called High Holiday, Bubbie would be flipping so hard in her grave there would be earthquakes and tidal waves. Out of respect for Bubbie, I did not order that particular sandwich. I did start with the Larry David served hot and the hubs had the Sunday Bloody Sunday. The Larry David was served in a small mug, only half full and only slightly tepid. There was more foam than anything else. The Bloody Sunday was mostly ice and bloody mary mix. For breakfast, I ordered the matzo ball soup and an order of potato latkes, the hubs ordered the brisket hash. My soup was served hot, it was tasty (but extremely salty) and the matzo ball was tender with not much flavor. The potato latkes had absolutely no flavor expect for the large pieces of salt on top. There was a lot of texture but literally flavorless. The hubs said his hash was good (the egg was cooked beautifully) but when I tasted it, it was only somewhat warm. The service was okay, although we seemed to wait longer than expected considering the restaurant was not very busy. Also, not sure if our server washed her hands after petting the puppy that belonged to the guests sitting next to us. Here's something weird...and it could just be me because my husband didn't taste it...but the water tasted salty. I thought it was the glass but then I tried the hub's water and it was the same???? After reading all of the good reviews I wanted to try Rye's & Grind...I'm glad they have all enjoyed it. I was not impressed.

Yelp
Such a cool little spot tucked onto coast highway. Me and a friend went for lunch. Both of our sandwiches were delicious. The lox and bagel tasted so fresh and my friend had the turkey motheclucker, a warm delicious serving of thanksgiving in a sandwich served with warm gravy! We each also had a craft coffee from their menu that we really enjoyed! Our server was super friendly as well.

Yelp
I am not local to Oceanside, so unfortunately, I probably won't be seen here very often. That being said, everything we tried on the menu was delicious. The prices seemed a little high, but it is basically brunch at the beach, so "spendy" is almost expected at this point in SoCal. The service was excellent. The staff was very efficient and reasonably (not phony) friendly. Aside from some flies, (which I don't think can be helped when you are dealing with patio dining), the place was very clean with pleasant ambience. I would not hesitate to come here again. My only complaint isn't really about the restaurant, but parking in Oceanside can be a challenge.

Yelp
Ryes and Grind? More like Ryes and Wait...Place is cute but man oh man do they got some slow service. I give grace to the workers cause I'm sure they could be low staffed. But woof nelly. Took forever to get our food, our waitress even brought our check and then said "Oh did you not get your food"...We sure didn't but the two tables who sat down 30 minutes after us did. Finally got our food and asked for ketchup. Did we get ketchup? No...but no worries, I barely like ketchup anyways but just wanted it for my potatoes. Sat there with potatoes sans ketchup. I hate Yelp so I'm giving them 4 stars cause I'm not trying to lower their score too much but just warn others that I would recommend bringing your own appetizers while you wait.

Yelp
We are new to the area and trying new places ! Food was really really food ! Super cool vibe. We sat at the bar, bar tender was not friendly and did not return after she took our order, never asked if we wanted more coffee, needed anything, etc .... Seemed odd and unnecessary - maybe she was just having a bad day but ya Her name was Coral.

Yelp
Nice change in the AM for some Jewish bagels w/egg+bacon sandwich!! Very good oily based bagel. The corn beef sandwich however was not like Katz deli that I'm used to in NYC. Nice place would come back for the bagels!!

Yelp
I enjoyed my meal but was part of a larger party and think it could be a better experience when visiting as just a single family. We were seated in the only spot that can accommodate a large party but the heater above wasn't working and we weren't warned about this when the reservation was made. On a brisk winter morning, it was quite chilly! When ordering it felt disorganized as some items/requests were forgotten a few times and we had to move our own food and drinks around to the right people. I enjoyed the seasoning and mixture of flavors in my meal but the potatoes are not a consistent size, so not a consistent cook/texture. My hope is they would try to make them more uniform in the future. Overall everyone was happy with their food and I'll be back to give it another try.

Yelp
Never disappointed when I come here! Ginger is my favorite server! She's a pure joy! Now onto the food! I have tried an extensive bit of the breakfast menu. From eggs Benedict with latkas to the rise and grind breakfast. The lox are scrumptious, the corned beef hash is to die for. Do you like fluffy scrambled eggs? Homemade Hollidase sauce ? And delicious veggies and herbs? This is the place for you! Come hungry leave stuffed and ready to na I would kiss the chef's every second if I wasn't weird.

Yelp
Ok service, but yummy food. Seemed a little understaffed, but the lattes and breakfast made up for the wait and slow service.

Yelp
I really enjoyed this place, but it aches knowing they could easily improve some minor (but important) aspects of their dishes!! Rye's and Grind is located in a very busy part of Oceanside, and yet the day we went, we were seated immediately. It was quite peaceful. The decor is really nice. It's super open-spaced, with high ceilings. They play great music and have glass windows that look into the kitchen so you can check out what the chefs are making. With this, the service was wonderful. Our server was super friendly and attentive and answered and questions we had. The food came out quickly, and everything tasted very fresh and hot!! However -- I have some big critiques that I do hope the kitchen will take into consideration!! None of these ruined the dishes, but, I do think they'd vastly improve the dish that I had. I started off with their matcha blueberry latter, which unfortunately was quite bitter. Matcha is naturally pretty bitter, but the blueberry did not sweeten it very well, which leads me to believe the blueberry may have been unripe! It also lacked a lot of the blueberry foam that was promised, and was filled to the brim with ice. I honestly would not order this again unless it were made sweeter. I know it's more common -- but maybe sticking to a strawberry matcha combination may be better. As for my dish, I got the eggs benedict with lox and it came with a side of breakfast potatoes. I specifically requested that the eggs be poached longer -- and the kitchen absolutely perfected this! Props to them! However, I feel the flavors of this dish are extreeeeemeeelyyy skewed. Lox is super salty, so to have this WITH capers too? It was a salt explosion. Unfortunately, something mild in flavor like hollandaise sauce did not counteract this saltiness very well, and the red onion and tomato was completely lost in the dish. I think adding less lox, and maybe taking out the capers and possibly pickling the onions would be a great improvement. The breakfast potatoes were pretty good, however the sauces that came on the side totally amplified the dish. I would definitely come back again because I did enjoy my experience, but I think that the dishes should be a little better and more balanced in flavor given the pricing.
