Best Restaurants in Soho, NYC | Eater NY

"From its founding in 1981, when it was one of a very few restaurants in Soho, Omen Azen became a hang for celebrities and artists. The list included Yoko Ono, Richard Gere, Patti Smith, and Bill T. Jones, who became regulars for the simple and elegant Japanese food. The sashimi platters have become legendary in this walk-up dining room with a jazz soundtrack, but noodles, hot pots, and tempura are also good choices." - Melissa McCart

MICHELIN Starred Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s Favorite New York Dining Spots

"A Soho staple and family-owned spot I’ve been visiting for years, this place offers what I consider the best Kyoto-style cuisine in NYC; it’s in the heart of Soho and even has a location in Kyoto I have yet to visit (though I might have to stop in on an upcoming trip)." - Nancy DePalma

Jean-Georges Vongerichten On His New York

"Omen Azen is a restaurant I have been going to for many, many years. The family-owned business is in the heart of Soho and offers the best Kyoto-style cuisine I have had in NYC. They also have a location in Kyoto which I have yet to visit (however, I have an upcoming trip to Kyoto so I might have to stop in.)" - Nancy DePalma

"While it’s nothing special when it comes to atmosphere and décor, this unassuming Japanese nook in Soho serves up delicious Kyoto-style food, including plenty of super fresh sashimi and small, flavorful cooked dishes. We’re partial to the Omen udon noodles, served simply with seaweed and hot or cold broth. This spot is a big hit among artists, actors, and creatives, who probably love the food as much as its hushed, relaxed vibe. We always order The Garden."
